Dear devs of the HTC One community,
I am on a carrier version (Verizon) all of what I believed to still be one of the greatest made the HTC One m7.
We are blessed such a vast array of roms, kernels, mods , etc, and because of that I don't think I'll ever get tired of this phone.
HOWEVER, there is one room that I'm very interested in and have been desperate to try out since its release and so far nobody been able to Port this rom over to the carrier variants of the m7, I am speaking of @sundream 's S-Rom w/ Beats,BoomSound,Harman Kardon JBL Audio Switcher. I am a HUGE Audiophile, and am DYING to be able to try this out,
A user named Kansas Boy was working on a carrier version of the rom and had said so far he had the rom booting up on all carriers except for Verizon, and I was his beta tester for Verizon. No matter what I tried or did, I couldn't get it to go past the boot animation, and I spent many many researching troubleshooting with no success. He then stated that he would be releasing the ROM minus Verizon support, however that was over a month ago, and there has been no word on it, and I believe it has since been abandoned.
I am BEGGING the great Dev Community here, for 1 of the Devs here to step up and try their hand at successfully making this rom available to the carrier bound users
Because of the differences in the partition layouts of the different m7 variants, the Working released version of SunDreams S-Rom only works for the WWE and AT&T variants if I'm not mistaken.
Is there/Are there ANY Dev's out there who would be able to / willing to attempt this? I would be MORE than happy to donate, please lemme know what u think.

Out of curiosity, I just sent an enquiry to HTC UK about when they might be officially updating the device to 2.3.3 or a subsequent version. Here's the answer I got:
"Thank you very much for contacting the HTC technical support help desk. We are excited to announce that HTC Incredible will receive the Gingerbread (Android 2.3) update in Summer 2011. Stay tuned for details as we get closer to the update availability. Please, for HTC INCREDIBLE S downloads and useful information about your device goes to: http://www.htc.com/uk/help_howtos.aspx?p_id=389"
I don't know about all of you, but this disappoints me - the Desire S is about to be released and yet that will be shipping with 2.3.3. And 'Summer'? That could easily be as late as September. This is all starting to sound very similar to the last time I was burned by HTC when I had a Hero and I was hanging around for 6 months waiting for a 2.x update from Android 1.5.
Anyway, I've told them I don't think this is good enough. I just hope someone finds a root exploit soon so there's a chance of me keeping vaguely up to date with new Android versions. Otherwise I'm going to be more and more tempted to sell this thing on later in the year and find something a bit more update-friendly.
to be honest, that just sound like the marketing department haven't been told anything, and that is a safe, wide target area, I wouldn't read too much into it.
I too suffered the Hero saga, don't want a repeat of that

I see no reason why they shouldn't be able to release an update within the next month or so, rather than 'Summer'. It's the vagueness that concerns me more than anything else!
Also, am I right in thinking that all Incredible S models ship without any carrier/network specific branding or functions within the software? I'm hopeful that will cut down the time it takes to build and release the update.
I think the update comes in May or June the latest. You figure this phone is gone be in Canada on Virgin and Bell sometime early April and in the states on Verizon at the end of April. I figure once the phone is more widely available the update will come. If we are lucky maybe the official gingerbread rom for the Incredible S gets leaked in April.
According to Engadget Chinese (during the press conference of Desire S announcement in Taiwan), hTC representative suggested that Gingerbread for Incredible S would be available "in next 2 weeks". Considering European countries always get the OTA update earlier than Asia Pacific region (Desire, Desire HD, Desire Z, Aria, Legend...). If the news is true, UK should probably get the update in April.
And also they announced a partnership with Skype to provide customized version of Skype in 2.3 update to include video call ability, which is a great news for us. Just hope this Skype version works better than the one in Market...

I had similar bs answer from them..
my enquiry was that as I purchased the phone sim/ carrier free, and it is the carriers who will release the update..which carrier sim wld I need to be using to get it?
in fact the reply bypassed the question completely, saying just 'most carriers wld release the updat (really htc? so do i have to use a sim from a carrier that supports IS???)...and then went on to say 'what is more important is that when the OTA is released by your carrier, make sure you are using wifi to download..
All I wanted was straight answer like 'O2 will def be releasing the update, it doesnt come direct from us, and expect it in xyz'..
HTC havent even released it to carriers yet, so when they do that'l take another couple of months for them to tamper with it..HTC obviously have a finished product which works with sense ui as they've been parading it around on the Desire S..so must be ready for release before now.

More likely than not, the official update will get leaked anyway, so I wouldn't worry too much about that if you're lurking here as you'll probably see it here first. I'm on 3 in the UK who definitely don't support this phone, so this is what I'll probably be relying on unless the update comes direct from HTC. I wouldn't rely on HTC support to know where it's coming from, they're clearly as much in the dark as we are but have to give an answer of some kind. They don't count on people actually being clued up already, sadly.
I agree that if the Desire S is getting it, we should be getting it soon, but I do understand if there's a short delay due to it having to be tested fully on differing hardware. It's just the vagueness and the timescale that gets to me.
if the official update does get leaked, could it be installed without root?
update def won't be from HTC direct, thats the one thing they are adamant about..your's is a perfect example of a carrier that therefore wouldnt be releasing the update..and as for the clowns at 3 dont get me started..I had a DHD from 3, contacted them about a ginbgerbread update and they just told me they were'nt doing it and that 2.1 was the latest version 3 had...erm, hello 3..i bought the phone from your shop with 2.2 already on it!
glad i got rid of my dhd tho...IS is tons better
Dear friends. I believe there's a lot of people having STUCK IN GEARS problems with ther phone. Is it possible for a good soul to dump the stock rom so we can play with and try to fix our phones???
You'll need to take it back to an AT&T Corporate (not a retailer or a franchised one) store to reflash it. There are only two ROMs that have been leaked and they are European, and have a small list of models it will work on. You can try asking in your device specific forum too.
Answers to this question are either totally unanswered or vague.
Can/will the M7 support VoLTE (Voice over LTE) or not? Three in the UK is upgrading it's network to support VoLTE in the 800mhz frequency range. It would be nice to have it if at all possible. Sadly there is very little info on whether the hardware supports it and if the software (Lolipop and mods) will support it or not on the M7.
Can we have a thread with solid answers as this is quite important for some of us who have reception issues.

I've been searching and curious (without avail) about the same question. I'm currently using Viper/Venom ROM v9.0.0 that uses a base from the M9. The M9 supports VoLTE and thus the option appears in the menu on the M7. However it does not function and if you try to interact with it the phone service crashes. This makes sense since it was developed for M9 hardware. Does this mean it's totally not supported on the M7 from a hardware standpoint - nope. But without the proper software it's not going to happen. Is T-mobile (or whoever your carrier is) going to develop the feature? Probably not. Will google? Maybe, seems to be appearing on google phones as a standardized feature. Same for wifi calling...

With the AICP MM ROM for the m7, I called my mom and it said "VoLTE" in blue letters. I never really took notice of it until after I went back to Sense... I'm going to flash that ROM again and give you an update soon (if not I probably forgot, sorry). And btw I know this thread is very old but I just wanted to chime in and say what I've found

So, that was an interesting and timely reply. I recently upgraded my M9 (s-on) to a firmware that is too new for MM CM so I went back to my M7 for a while. It's still on a sense based rom but I may give AICP MM a spin on my M7- thanks!
:edit
Now that I think about it, the only reason I upgraded to the M9 was for VoLTE, the M7 is the perfect size phone, god how ridiculous new phones are these days, every iteration just a liiiiitttle bit bigger. enough already lol /rant...

I flashed AICP last night and called my mom again, but unfortunately no VoLTE... It's odd because I clearly remember seeing those blue letters when I was about to hang up :/ If I find anything new I'll post it here!

Maybe, you didn't remember well, what you've seen? Because I think, it's impossible.
So this thread is a year old (time to re-activate it?), and I wonder about the same issue. I tried on the M7 with different firmwares (european latest hboot 1.61, GPE hboot 1.54), using LineageOS 14.1 (Android N 7.1.2), but with no constellation it's possible to activate VoLTE.
I figured out, that it depends on "the hardware", but IMHO that's not really the reason because the LTE radio chip performs LTE correctly. So I expect it depends in reality on the "radio firmware" to active VoLTE.
And I have never seen a radio firmware for the M7, which is able to perform VoLTE.
If somebody knows about a "patched" or "modified" radio firmware for the M7, to activate VoLTE, please let me know!!! (Because LOS 14.1 runs well, and is -- from the OS side -- able to perform VoLTE).
Thanks a lot,
samhhmobil

Thats not true, Lineage in general doesnt support VoLTE. You can read about exacly this on AICP G+ page because a lot of people asked for VoLTE Support. Official answer was "as long as lineage doesnt implement it we dont have it" There are some unofficial Roms for other devices where the maintainer did implement VoLTE. The big problem with VoLTE is, in nearly every country and provider it has a different standard so its not just add something and it works for everyone.
But Guys, do you realy need LTE while your in a Call and 3G isnt enough? I think 42mb/s should be enough for everything and thats what you actually get while in a call. Btw our m7 only has an internal read and write speed at about 5-15mb/s so its useless :silly:
You're a power user. Can the LG V20 keep up? Rate this thread to express how "healthy" the development scene is for the LG V20. A higher rating indicates available root methods, kernels, and custom ROMs.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Well, seeing as though there is NO comments, I will be the first to say that I am hoping that we get root as quick as possible! Judging by the great people we have working on this phone, I have ZERO doubts!
M only concern is carrier specific development. T-Mo is doing well, as well as any HK based v20; however, AT&T/Verizon/Sprint models are yet to get as much attention.

what this guy said^^^^
I'm on Verizon...I do see that bootloader unlock was achieved with the pixel on Verizon... so I'm sure it's possible with this device, on Verizon, I just don't know if the verizon variant will get the needed support from the development community. I wish I had a clue...
Seems like real development is about to start for Tmobile! @Chainfire confirmed that the LG V20 has been rooted. And i also have seen some users concerned with other variants even if it is not the variant they are using >> good solidarity. So , we all hope that each variant find the path to the root. The more the merrier!
I plan on picking up the VZW version in the next couple day. Hopefully more people will do the same.
What would the devs need from the VZW version to start work on the boot loader unlock / getting root?
Willing to try and help with that. I am fairly familiar with Linux and somewhat with adb, so just tell me what you need, how to pull it, and I will do my best to pitch in.
Dk if I will root mine specifically because I will use it for work also, and some of our software will not currently accept a rooted Android phone onto the network. Can't say what it is, other than it is in-house proprietary software.
Development is very weak on all carriers except T-Mobile.

for now development for Tmobile model is pretty decent. I just hope it wont die too early
We got root and future look bright. Other models not so lucky with development just because they are locked
I hope we can get development on the factory unlocked non carrier specific version as well!

I'm offering up my Verizon device for testing.
Maaaan i hope they manage to make Resurrection Remix and ACIP roms for the LG V20. Those 2 are my favorite roms on every device i have had. and if the 2nd screen is the problem, they can drop that behind (at least for a while, i wouldnt mind) lol. Of course, first someone need to start with CM14 for this device. (I have been looking all over the web, including github and there is not a single trace of CM14 for LG V20) on the other hand, at least we have root for the h918, ( i also hope other variants get root too). It is odd that no one have asked the question of: "Will there be CM14 for the LG V20?".... at least none existen threads, nor comments could be found while googling. but well. I guess i turned out to be the first, lol. Although i saw on CM website there is a subforum of the LG V20, however it is totally empty.
Compared to when I first bought this phone, the development has really picked up.
I'm on the Resurrection Remix ROM for Verizon and i'm loving it.

Once it get root and open bootloader life will be much easier
Same thing for 990.
Its almost there ?
Very quiet in this thread for the last 3 months.
I've had my V20 for a day and I'm loving it. I researched a lot beforehand and knew development was pretty much nonexistent but I hope there may be a root exploit in the future.
I have the H990ds Taiwan model.
So this is a post for just making people realise some of the things going on in the Samsung Galaxy Tab A development forum (specifically the custom Rom development). So let's get right into the thing. I believe custom Rom should be focusing on bringing newness to old devices. Of course and some features are not available in New devices, and custom Rom and debloated roms help fill the gap ( we all know how heavily modded Samsung firmware is).
However recently there is a trend for DEVELOPERS to make custom roms for recently released devices ( SM-T580, SM-T280) . While the old 2015 models and others have no roms yet. I did hear that someone was making a unified Rom for some of these models months ago. I'm not saying that there shouldn't be any roms for new models . But there is an overcrowding in the market with custom roms for these devices and also with very little difference between these roms. Imagine this like there are a lot of products for one group of people and the rest get no products at all!
So this is my petition. Can just some of you show a bit love for these devices? If enough of you respond to this maybe there will be a positive change! That's all I want . I want everyone to pass this message around. Thanks for the help. And thank you Developers who make custom roms for any device because I know it's a hard job and you are doing this for free. :good:
Peace
P.S: This is my first post. I know I did some things wrong. So PLEASE don't be too critical about this.
Hint, Hint!! Devs make mods for devices they OWN. They aren't in it to support Samsung. They aren't in it to be charitable. They are in it because they enjoy doing what they do and want the "latest and greatest" for themselves. But they ARE NOT going to support old devices they no longer have.
edit: There is also the fact that "custom" ROMs, like RR, Extremely and Ultra, are all just modifications of the STOCK ROM from Samsung. So, if Samsung hasn't produced a new ROM for an older device, then there is nothing to modify. The exception to that are the ROMs based on the LineageOS. But, again, these are based on adaptions from other devices that use the same SoC. So, if the LineageOS devs haven't produced one for the SoCs in older devices, you won't see one for your older Tab A.
Then why do they provide support for their releases. I get the thing you said about how roms a modified. But I dont think they make it just for themselves. If that were the case the would not be any "community" and XDA IS a well-knit community. Developers like @ashyx and @JazzPresso provide and support people with their mods and stuff. So the "want the "latest and greatest" for themselves. But they ARE NOT going to support old devices they no longer have. " part I don't get.

How are they supposed to debug problems when they no longer have a device to use for testing? What's not to get?
But once you have device tree (more or less in stone) it's easy to just keep up to date. (To a degree) but only the latest popular devices get anything. Look at the smt280 ... Absolutely f***ING nothing past root for it. One decent time (decent being used loosely) while the exact same one other than modems are activated (t285) gets quite a bit of love. They are the exact same device! I'm fairly sure the 280 even has the modems! Just deactivated. We have to work with the devs more flexibility do they can do build and have GOOD feedback, timely reports and sure knowledge of how to log. (I stuck at it all) that's how but there are thread after thread of similar devices that none ever gives these devs the info. Dumps, etc that is needed to help us. We inquire on root or rom then they ask for stuff and we disappear. Never to be heard from again. Lots of these devs are so selfless in their endeavor with goose eggs for return

The last Samsung stock ROM for the 280 was 5.1. and there is no Linage version later than that to work from. But if you are so sure there is no difference between the 280 and 285, other than the modem, why don't you try flashing the 285 ROM on the 280? There is an Omni 6.0 ROM for the 285. I've successfully flashed 585 ROMs on a 580.
Anyway, complaining isn't going to change anything. No dev is going to put any effort into an outdated tablet.
If only someone could port treble then the tablet would be sorted. But I doubt that's ever going to happen.

Anytime I tried twrp error was just because of device name or something of that sort. Is there a way of kinda forcing the flash? I've never tried it through other way. Thanks for advice
