Saving 4K video in .dng? - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Not sure why my note is doing this but it saves 4K video files in .dng
googled it and it seems that its a raw file thats usable in Adobe Premier. Weird because my raw is not selected in camera settings

[Q] Which video conversion app do you use for Note?

Hey guys,
Recently got a note but cannot find a decent video conversion app. What is the size I should convert the video files into? any reccomendations for mac/windows?
Cheers!
Don't have any answer for the question but with mx video player, you won't need to convert probably.
Just use Handbrake which converts to MP4 - you can change the settings to get better quality or smaller file. I've been using this program for all of my phones...perfect so far!!
To play on the Note, MX Videoplayer is your friend!
Unless the file size is larger than 3.9Gb I dont convert it anymore, I use Handbreak to convert it to 3.9Gb but for HD movie sources that are 15-20GB I split convert them into 3x 3.9Gb files to preserve the quality and just delete it after viewing.
For info, here is the link : http://handbrake.fr/
Thanks, I know of handbrake and will try it. Will give MX a go too without converting. Thank you all.
If you're quite technical and/or somewhat of a videophile (as I am!) then I'd recommend giving Mediacoder a try too.
Mediacoder lets your configure a lot more options than Handbrake, but it has a terrible GUI so is a lot more difficult to use.
Moboplayer plays everything. No need to convert.

+1 for moboplayer. Never converted anything

Mxvideo player is the best and if you have big files just use mkvtoolnix (PC app), no reencoding, just split the file in 2 or more mkvs (under 4GB) !
BS player
Plays everything and smoother than MX with my HTC HD2 ICS

[Q] Best Movie Converter for the Note?

Anyone know a good movie converter. I have some .MKV files and would like a program that would convert them to whatever the note uses for HD movie viewing. Thanks.
Any Video Converter Pro.
I'm using it to convert videos, clarity is pretty fine, give it a try.

One question - i've downloaded a trailer, which is around 850mb. It is 1080p, but i guess i with higher bitrate, because it is with normal length - the normal size would be around 250-400mb.
The point is - do we have any constrains here?

ntfs can't support by g-note.
I'm trying to transfer some bluray movies over to my note. Is there free software that I'll be able to to use to help me accomplish this?
I prefer a free version but a paid version will do as long as it's not complicated to use. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
MPEG streamclip for Mac. I encode DVD rips to 1080 p mp4 and they play and look awesome!

I do not know what the actual max. bitrate for Mali 400 is, but it does handle both 1080p baseline-profile and 1080p high-profile 4.1 just fine. The maximum bitrate seems to be quite high as everything I've thrown at my own Note has played just fine and most of my files have quite high bitrate, including the 1080p HP version of Sintel.
Samsung doesn't make available all the details of the Exynos chip -- the most important stuff is under NDA -- so the only way to determine the maximum bitrate would be to test it manually, and that could take a good while.
You could try Handbrake. It is one of the more versatile video converters out there, but playing with the video output settings can be a pain the first time.

I have made a thread about Handbrake for the Iconia Tab A500 and included several premade presets there, too: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1184002
If you are going to be watching on the Note's own, small screen I would suggest picking the high-profile 720p preset and lowering the quality-slider a bit as you won't see the difference anyways, but if you're going to use the Note connected via HDMI to a larger screen then the 1080p high-profile preset as-is would be better.
I would go MPEG streamclip over handbrake that's just me. Read it handles mp4 better which is recommended for the note.

I can't play MKV movies.
Where do you put your movies? In- or external SD card?
And how do you copy these films? Do you put the external SD card in your computer or via usb mass-storage?
I hope you can help me so I can watch mkv movies on my note.
By the way I am on ICS LPY custom ROM: RocketRom V4 with Speedmod kernel.

my youtube app only shows 720p max, really annoying, I tried the desktop method in chrome but it didn't appear to load, I kept getting loading error message when it played, when the video attempted to play it just froze my browser (chrome)
Found a better method if I want to see 4k video on my note 4 however more long winded, I downloaded tubemate app from amazon app store, this allowed me to download full 4k quality test videos and play them
You can upgrade your YouTube app and view 1440p. Search around for it.
Just if you are rooted though right?

I believe so, You will need to remove the old app to do so which require root.
This is really ticking me off. What's the use of a kickass screen if you can't feed it properly with content?
Fullhd doesn't work on the nexus 7 either
Check this 1080p 60 FPS video! This is waaaay better than 4k at 30 fps if you're not using a tripod. You get MUCH less blur when moving the phone.

Play QHD Youtube videos on N6?

Has anyone figured out how to play youtube videos at a higher resolution than 1080p? If I open a youtube video that says its 4k, and tap on the settings gear in the app the highest option I get is 1080p. Any ideas?
I don't think the YouTube app has 4k capabilities yet

Quite few are available. You may have to use video downloader extension for your browser. You can even find some 3D 360 videos.

You can download the mp4 file but the GVR doesn't seem to see it. Does it need that .pvr file?
You need to move file to oculus/360videos folder
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
I did. Videos still don't show up.
Use stock video player and try to play that video. If is playable then oculus player will play it too. If not then you need to reconvert it to mp4 with mp3 sound. Easy way to check: use stock file manager, go to oculus -> 360videos and if tumbnail of video in question is visible then video should play, if has basic icon then needs to be reconverted.

They will play. If you noticed in my screenshot there are some videos without matching pvr file. I believe pvr file is tumbnail for video. Videos without pvr will have blue square as tumbnail in 360 video but they will play once selected.

Thanks. That worked but I'm having the same problem as with all the 360 videos, the focus is terrible. Is that the nature of 360 videos or something else? The focus seems to be really awful compared to still images or even regular video. Perhaps because 3D video captures less information for each view than regular video?
You can find some sharper videos. A lot has to do with compression and file size. They never going to be completly sharp on our screens. Each eye receives information from less than half of phone screen and magnification itself will blur picture. It may change with 8k displays Higher resolution 360 videos may have dimensions around 4k x 2k pixels and quality is better.
