you can use stock kernel....your standby is high is because of the application causing data to send and recieve even after you turn the screen off....if you have xposed use mobileradiocallfix it will fix the standby problem. Arter97 kernel will not give you reboot.

Getting sick of the ICS battery and kernel issues and have decided to clean out the phone and install everything fresh.
I am currently on an unrooted stock ICS ROM (N7000XXLRK) and understand that I should go back to a GB ROM first then install ICS. I will search on here for a guide on how to do it (links welcome ) but am confused as to which ROM I should use of the many stock ROMs posted on here.
Since I am going to do a clean install, is it worth going back to the XXLRK ROM or is there an improved one which has sorted the battery kernel issues out? Which GB ROM can I safely go back to without confusing things before I reflash ICS?
Is it recommended that anything else is added or flashed while I have the hood up? Unless there is an uber stable custom ROM I want to stay stock, but will want to root it.

First Downgrade to GB and then upgrade to this ICS Stock ROM.
JUST DON'T EVER WIPE WITH STOCK ICS KERNEL. USE A CUSTOM KERNEL LIKE NOTECORE,SPEEDMOD ETC.

upgrading to the latest ICS kernel doesn't necessarily guarantee that your deep sleep and excessive battery usage woes will go away.... your deep sleep and battery drain issues are subjective and have lots of factors that might contribute to it.
Don't let the notion fool you into thinking that your issues(above) will simply be resolve by simply upgrading to the latest firmware. Because I'll tell you now.. it will not still. (infact there have been people complaining that upgrading to the latest ICS one have increase more their battery drain than ever before), unusual as it may seem... but it has been complained about already.
Just like to let you know that...

First thing I am just wondering why this quoting is broked ? looks like something is broken in this thread.
Second thing I didn't advised anyone (not the op) that your issues will be resolved by just doing the things mentioned above. Confused ? Third I was just answering him the question he asked in "OP"
Fourth if you are facing deep sleep issues or your device is not going to deep sleep mode then OP can try this..
Turn ON the Airplane Mode.
Switch Off your Phone.
Take the battery OUT for a minute or TWO
Put it back and start your phone.
Wait for everything to load
Turn off the Airplane Mode.
After that you can check the same in CPUSPY

Thanks for that.
I have tried the method you describe and also looked at CPUSpy with BBS and on top of that I have the keyboard lockup issue too in Chrome.
It seems that the quality of the phone is completely lower since the ICS updates with it not providing a full day of use on one charge as well as me having to be careful about bleutooth/wifi usage and time that I use the phone to surf. Quite ridiculous really and I haven't had to use a smartphone like this since the days of the HTC Diamond.
Before I revert back to GB and be done with it, I want to try an nice clean ICS install and give it one last chance, unless there is a custom ICS ROM you think I should consider.

Yes, using pc odin you can flash what you like. If you want good battery, it's worth doing a clean install ie perform data wipe/factory reset to clear any old mess, obviously if you're going onto ics make sure you have a safe kernel before performing any wipes at all.
To be honest though, for ICS you're getting pretty good battery life, I doubt you'll top it except going back to GB.
All the best, let us know how you get on.

Yes, I understand that WipeAll is the best way. But this mean, flash safe kernel = root (or can i just flash safe kernel on my stock ICS via PC odin? )
And root ICS = go to GB directly rooted kernel and....etc.
In my old Galaxy Spica I have change kernel or mod (rom) every month but was always just 2.2 froy. So no worry about it.
And still i am reading all thread of all rom in XDA. No rom is perfect. Its working but sometimes some bugs...so i am tired (2 years with Spica) of looking for the best kernel for my note.
Now i want just one normal working with a little good live of battery
btw. What is your live of battery on custom kernel 4.0.3. ? If you say i have pretty good battery i will not it change

Firstly battery: ics swallows a lot more juice than gb, so what you're getting is pretty good. I'm currently on paranoid android jb beta 1.4 with Beastmode kernel and getting roughly 8 hours with 4 hours screen on. I use it a lot! When I was on pure ics 4.03 I was getting around the same.
Roms and kernels: if you flash an already rooted gb, you can do so now with pc odin and it will automatically root. When you've done that, check to see if cwm is installed as it may be part of the package in which case your good to go, if not just flash a Chainfire kernel. Then you have cwm recovery (vol up, home and power) and flash this rom package which includes a safe kernel.
Hope that makes sense.

I presume these ROMs have their kernels built in.
Would you thus recommend one of these custom ROMs for my requirements over say stock ICS with perhaps a different kernel? I am not really looking for lots of features as I would like to build up the apps on my own, ie shut out bloatware. I would like it to be stable and have at least 15 hours of battery life with 3-4 hours screen time, which is what I enjoyed with GB. How do you think CM9 fits in with your selection?
Last flashing I did was on a Dell Streak which was easy as there was only DJ Steve at the time, Seems with the Note I am starting again from scratch, completely different flash process and loads of ROMs. Sort of blinded by it all to be honest

Custom ROM (Didn't Reach This Stage)
Current Phone State: No Battery Charging Icon only a round Loader (Switched Off Mode), No Download Mode, No Recovery Mode and Stuck at Boot.
What Can I try: I have No Idea... .. Posted here to know this...
After Flashing twrp with Odin, everything went good.. Like Odin Showed Success and Green.. I Disconnected phone when it rebooted but it won't won't won't move ahead of boot screen... Waited for more than 15mins, removed battery and restarted again kept it to boot till the entire battery drained but no use. Now don't know whether it is charging or no.
Kindly help.
Important Info: The phone belongs to my sis, help me before she kills me... :fingers-crossed:
Update: Entered Download mode once, only once and unfortunately my currently at my office with no softwares n drivers at hand...
Awaiting Help...
Flash firmware
<----- Click Thank Its Easy
How to it won't enter Download Mode or Recovery mode...
That guide got little problem , flashing twrp using odin is for gingerbread, in jelly bean use cocore kernel for twrp and i also got same experience with you but i get into download mode and flash frimware http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=29206 again to fix it .Download the file first and try go into download mode anywhere and flash it ,if cannot go to phone repair shop
Why would you follow such a tedious guide to get TWRP, when you can just flash CoCore kernel with twrp? Well now just try to get into download mode and flash stock jb again.
OK guys thx will try CoCore kernal... I am able to get into Download mode sometimes so guess will flash Stock Firmware from sammobile...
After Stock Firmware=>CoCore Kernal=>Custom ROM
Hope this time it goes right...

In the future look for guides here on XDA, not on some third party sites... You have all explained here, just look good and read.
For future - do not flash GB kernel over any other ROM than on STOCK. Do not flash CM kernel over Stock JB, do not flash stock or CoCore kernel over CM based ROMs.

Ok Thx.. Yes it seems to work.. Like it verified the backups and restored it too.. atleast it started the installer and I did install..
BTW seems all the features I use are working n this Firmware.. However is there a better option than Nova Launcher, I tried GoLauncher but didn't like it much compared to Nova....
Also I found FM Radio missing in this firmware and also the default Music app.. I installed default Music one from F-Droid and also one from PlayStore but where do I get a tuned in Radio? All are internet based... Spirit FM is very expensive... Can you help me to find the stock one for this...

One Learning, since I'm new to Android (correct me if wrong), Dalvik cache can be cleared at will if you want to force android to rebuilt the apps cache for faster loading.. Right?

One Learning, since I'm new to Android (correct me if wrong), Dalvik cache can be cleared at will if you want to force android to rebuilt the apps cache for faster loading.. Right?

There is no other FM radio for CM based ROMs. Only Spirit FB, and there is free version too. Look on XDA for developers thread.
You can clear Dalvik cache, and it will rebuild after reboot. But there is cache already, so I think it will not speed up loading more.
Ok so guess, won't be doing the wipe frequently...
Will search xda for Spirit Free...
Last question:
Which launcher do you suggest?
Thx..

I tried hyperdrive and never got that working fully either, so I'm still on stock. I hate this locked bootloader I've been searching on ebay for a cheap i9295 for a few weeks now

You flashed/stocked back to odin ne3 and then again flashed the rom. is this time wifi working ?
Correct and yes WiFi is working. The only issue is that if you want to turn off or reboot your phone, you have to turn off WiFi first, else it does not work properly when you not back up. However, even if you forget to do that little trick, a hot reboot fixes Wi-Fi. Otherwise, there aren't any issues with WiFi or in general

Is it worth to flash this rom? How is the performance? ? What about battery life? ?compared to ne3/nh3 and this rom which is the best?As I have seen that many gesture is not working.

I flashed this rom because I can't stand touchwiz (stock Samsung); I really wanted the look and feel of AOSP/stock android. The battery life isn't as good as stock with Galaxy Mod Ultimate (you can still use it, it's just the improvement isn't as noticeable). I'm not quite sure what you mean by gesture? This is an AOSP-style rom so all of Samsung's gimmicky little add-ins such as (but not limited to) air gesture, smart screen, all share, s-beam, s-voice, etc. are not present at all. I think it really comes down to a matter of preference. I have/had around a dozen devices, not all Samsung, and most are running cyanogenmod or something based off of it. Therefore I wanted this rom since it's the closest to cm we're going to get with a locked bootloader. If you like the look and feel of touchwiz or all the features Samsung adds in, or if you're super concerned about battery life, you might want to stick with stock. (Don't let the battery life be the only deciding factor, it's not that bad).

Honestly its a very efficient rom, most things seem to work however randomly for me some apps will stop working, however I believe that to be an app problem not a rom problem. I treat it as a sort of bare essentials rom, if you want a small rom then its worth it. I've installed viper4android and other root apps and those also work perfectly, I believed i flashed it about a week ago and everything is fine

Ok, thank you for your answers !
I have to flash the "boot.img" image modified, Super SU and after custom kernel?
The kernel will fix the problem level of my battery ?
Could you break that down for me ?
kernel advise ?
Thanks.

I agree but I do not have time to completely reinstall my phone.
I wished for just root my nexus.
can you confirm this procedure with the custom kernel ?

To be honest, if you dont have the time for that simple thing then you really shouldnt mess with your device as things can go wrong that will take far more time to fix that the few min it takes to restore.
hello everyone , 2 weeks ago i rooted my note 5 using spacex kernal then, i flashed the stock rom again now running the latest MM , but my phone has a huge battery drain problem it loses about 50% overnight with everything off ! i installed Cpu monitering app it shows (0s) sleep time , can i solve this issue without running custom kernal ? i wan't to get updates normally . thank you

Well...it is becoz of samsung **** policy...
Once u tripped ur knox or rooted ur phone...then again install official stock rom...ur phone will not get deep sleep( meaning huge battery drain at standby)
In order to get rid of it....u have to install latest super su in stock rom(means again root ur phone on stock rom).....thats the only option for you
