Is there a guide to rooting 5.1 with MoFo? Plus are there any free options? I'm willing to pay but $20 is kinda too much for me.
You have 5.1 right now? If so you are out of luck. Mofo and sunshine require you to be on 5.0 or 4.4.4. In which case there is no known way for you to root. Sorry.

I assume jcase the creator did and it didn't work. He found another root exploit but isn't going to release it.
I wanna try. Will it mess my phone up?

no, that vulnerability has been patched, so if something you'll test your phone againsts that vulnerability and you'll fail (so you won't mess anything up)
Really sucks he wont help us out with 4.4. Being a family guy with a career...I understand. But damn...would love root on this thing

I hope I'm not jumping the gun here, I did a while back and jcasr corrected me. But, if you read the bounty thread in the general section, he's 99.5% sure that he has figured out how to root 4.4 (may only be att though) without burning up an additional exploit... He is working on it and said he will release it when he gets a copy of the att ota.
Moto X rocking 4.4
Please don't flame me, I am on my phone and can't do a search.
I took the kitkat OTA and want to downgrade back down to the camera update ota and hopefully use jcase's root method to keep root with kitkat.
Any links would be appreciated. Wasn't sure if I could just rsd back or not.

Yes you can RSD back, If you couldn't slap my moto wouldn't be possible. Instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2538896

Thanks, I was pretty sure that i could rsd back. But I did read on a bunch of sites that motorola said that if you took the ota for kitkat you would not be able to downgrade. That's why I wanted to check.
Yes you can RSD back to camera update. I have done it with my Verizon moto x. I use foxfi and needed my tethering without root.

I am looking to upgrade to this phone. Is it easy to root for Verizon?

The process to have root only works if your phone has 4.4.4 or 5.0. If you have 5.1 it is unrootable. The root process for verizon is with a software called mofo which you have to pay for.

I have a moto x 2014 on verizon running android 5.1 and I wanted to know it if was possible to downgrade back down to kit kat. Of course I would need to unlock my boot loader using mofo first, but if i can do that, would it be possible to flash an older device image with kit kat(also without losing my unlocked boot loader)? If not, are there any kitkat roms for the xt1096? I couldn't find any myself.
Thank you.
It's even worse than that. You can't get root so you can't use mofo or sunshine. It is stock only for you. Sorry.
You can't root, unlock your bootloader, nor downgrade. There is absolutely no way currently for xt1096 running 5.1.

Man... You seem to know your stuff. Do you know if there is even anyone working on rooting these?
No idea. Nobody has said anything about it.

Hey Guys,
I have a ATT SM-G925A I just had and insurance replacement. The new one came with 6.01. My original has 5.02 rooted.
Can someone please clarify this, It seems from what I have been reading is that there is no way for me to downgrade the new 6.01 phone back down to the 5.02 version, or root 6.01 either.
Is that factual?
yes. confirmed. can't go back down or root. I believe Sprint or t mobile is still capable of root in marshmallow. never buy phones from AT&T if you want to root.

Or never find one
Just want to make sure before flashing this, are there any problems anyone has experienced after flashing 6.0.1 update??
Thanks!
