I have a secondary gmail account that is through a university with a .edu address. When I attempt to add it through gmail or add accounts I get : "Couldn't find your google account. Try again. Now on my moto x 2014 this works as expected.
Any ideas to correct this?
Nevermind I was able to get it added. Feel free to remove this thread so it does not derail anyone.

Hi,
I know some of you have suffered from disappearing mail when using WM to download mail from Gmail via POP and I believe there have been some work arounds (using recent: and/or setting your WM6 to not download the entire smg), but I've never been really satisfied with them. Well, since I have a TILT, thought I'd ask my fellow Tilt folks to try this out.
In any case, I tried this workaround and it seems to be working. If someone would be nice enough to double check my steps to see if this works for you, this just might solve the whole GMail/POP/WM6 mishaps.
BTW, as a discalimer, I don't know if someone's come up with this type of solution!
Ok, we'll need two Gmail accounts, one that is your PRIMARY-GMAIL account and then you have your SECONDARY-GMAIL account (bear with me, it'll become clear why in a bit).
Typically, your PRIMARY-GMAIL is the account you receive all of your mail and from which reply from.
Your SECONDARY-GMAIL account (either create one or use one that you already have) is the account from which you'll download mail from with your Windows Mobile device.
Setup your PRIMARY-GMAIL account to "forward a copy of your mail" to your SECONDARY-GMAIL account and "keep Gmail's copy in the inbox"
Enable POP on your SECONDARY-GMAIL account.
On your Windows Mobile device, create a new email account and manually configure to download mail from your SECONDARY-GMAIL account and set it up to download 50kb.
On your Windows Mobile device, set up the OUTGOING server to NOT use the same credentials and then put in the credentials of your PRIMARY-GMAIL account.
That's it! When you receive email to your PRIMARY-GMAIL account, it's forwarded to your SECONDARY-GMAIL account. Your WM device will download mail from this Gmail account. When you reply from your WM device, your WM device will use the credentials of your PRIMARY-GMAIL account and because of the way GMail's interface works, it uses your PRIMARY-GMAIL account as the SENT FROM. Thus to the rest of the world, you downloaded/received it off your PRIMARY-GMAIL account but to you, it's downloaded from your SECONDARY-GMAIL account, but replied/sent from your PRIMARY-GMAIL account. You should be able to download/receive the entire message now without fear of email disappearing from your PRIMARY-GMAIL account.
Sorry, it might sound confusing and convoluted, but this seems to be working for me. No more worries of disappearing messages, etc etc. Would anyone else mind testing this out?
Thoughts?
Thanks!
pretty good workaround. I just use IMAP however.
Um yeah, why use POP when IMAP works now? Pop SUCKS!
My school uses gmail to supply our email..
So even though our account is not @gmail.com
Could I still use it for my primary account on my nexus one?

I would imagine so. You should be able to use any Google account.
Be careful using a Google Apps account. If you ever leave the school you'll need to migrate everything over (and I don't even know if this is possible). Instead set up a personal Gmail account, and then add the school as a secondary.

Good advice since I think your paid apps are connected to the account used to buy them. You're not gonna be in school forever, so create your own personal account.
if i'm not mistaken we keep our account pretty much forever..
That was how it worked pre google anyway.. I dunno if that changed or not though
i have used google apps account as primary account before. However, here are a few things you should be careful about
1) As mentioned above, purchases are tied to primary account only. When i moved to gmail as primary account, i had to repurchase apps
2) Gtalk supports primary account only. So your primary account should be the account you use to sync contacts. else gtalk integration won't be of any use to you.
3) Google voice works on gmail account only. So if you want google voice to integrate with contacts, you have to use gmail as primary account
4) Fortunately FROYO allows syncing calendars on secondary account, but if you are 2.1, you can only sync primary account
Overall, I will advise you to use gmail account. you never know what features you may need in the future and gmail account will always have better support than google apps.

I, too, have a school-related gApps account that I need to relinquish next year and a personal Gmail account. However, due to the way my organization's gApps is set up, I need to use it as my primary account in order to fully utilize its features. (Specifically, I share my personal Gmail's calendars/mail/docs into my gApps calendar/mail/docs; the reverse is not fully possible with our organization's gApps setup.)
So anyway, even though I'm on Froyo, I have my gApps account as the primary for the reasons above since I originally set up the phone on 2.1 and my calendar is on my gApps account. This basically sucks, though, since all of my paid apps and other personal Android-related information (Wi-Fi password backups, bookmarks, etc.) reside on my "temporary" account.
However, I find that Google Voice, Gallery/Picasa, etc. still work fine as long as I have my personal Gmail account listed as a secondary. I can even switch between my personal and gApps account in Maps.
In summary, if at all possible, I also recommend using a personal account as primary. If you can't, then you can join me in hoping that Google eventually provides some way to transfer paid apps and settings...
I'm running CM9 Nightly (8/8/12). I obviously need to sign into my gmail account in order to use the play store. However, I don't want to sync anything from that account. The reason is that the tablet is shared by the family and I don't want anyone to accidently send e-mail from my account. I also don't want everyone reading my e-mails. After I signed it I went to accounts & sync and turned off syncing with google. However, my e-mail is still in the gmail app. I tried clearing cache and data on the gmail app, but that didn't work either. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Is there any way to avoid this?
Should I create a new gmail account like 'ryanDONTSYNC' in order to have something to log into that doesn't have e-mail / contacts / calendar items?
Thanks,
Ryan

Read this thread. I think it answers your question.

When using a POP3 account with the stock email app I checked "Delete From Server? NEVER" and it deletes the message from my server anyway.
Works fine from all my other phones. Anyone else having the same problem?
Mike
Same problem here
I am in the same boat. It appears that it does not do it immediately, but shortly after deleting. I have double checked my settings and all account say to never delete from server. This is troubling. It appears that the email app on the turbo is very different from all previous droid email apps. Messages saved from previous email apps cannot be opened by the trubo email app.
Anyone have insights on this?
Use New GMAIL App
The new GMAIL app can handle your gmail account plus any other POP / IMAP and even exchange I believe. I have my Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail and Icloud all setup in the new updated app. Much better than the stock moto email app. Deletion works too. Just a thought:highfive:

Gmail update showed up for me today. Immediately switched out of the Email app. Not sure it will fix what ails ya but, it's a legit contender to make it happen.
still the same in gmail and moto email

I tried the new gmail in both pop3 and imap configuration. When setting it up to never delete from server, it still deltes from server in both gmail and moto email in both pop3 and imap.
Over on turbo moto forum, it seems that moto is now looking into this issue.
Be aware.
Yup, the new Gmail app deletes them too.
Looks like this has been a problem with Google based email since kitkat. Sure glad Google is worried about it... /s

Hello people,
I have multiple google email accounts signed in from my device. 1 of them is personal (which is also the account I signed in to my android phone) and rest of them are work email accounts (which are shared among my colleagues). Now, all of them are signed in my phone. I have recently discovered that find my phone service can be used from any of those accounts. Which in my case is absolutely unwanted because that means my colleagues can search my location anytime they want. I want findmyphone service to accessible from only one account that i chose from. I would choose my personal account to have access to findmyphone service as this would protect my privacy. Kindly assist on how to do it.
Thanks in advance
Guys this is a serious issue, and im sure there will be a lot of people leaking there location unknowingly to their colleagues or people they share common email accounts with! Kindly come up to resolve this.
If your work google accounts can access your find phone features then you have it set up wrong. Go to Setting/Accounts. You do not want your work accounts logged in there as they are logged into your phone. Delete them from Accounts. Instead you should be setting up the work accounts through your Gmail or Email apps as IMAP or POP accounts depending on which you prefer.

But i did not add those by going into setting/accounts. I added my work from gmail or google drive apps only. They automatically start showing into settings/accounts!

As i already told you. I didnt add my work account from setting/accounts, instead i added it straight from gmail app.
But as soon as i add any google account from any respective app, (gmail or google drive) the same account starts showing up in settings/accounts!
Please let me know if im not clear!
Yeah I got that. As I suggested, log out of those accounts & set them up as either IMAP or POP email accounts. You can do this either through accounts or the email app. Is that not clear?
Sensing a bit of attitude from you so good luck to you. Hopefully someone else will be happy to help you.
