I got my Nexus 7 last week and have not been able to put it down. Recently I got a bluetooth keyboard to go along with it and it brought some major bluetooth connectivity issues to my attention. Has anyone else had any issues with bluetooth accessories on the Nexus 7?
The problems I have been dealing with:
When connecting to a bluetooth device whatever screen I am on on my tablet refreshes (ie: home screen redrawn, chrome all tabs refresh)
Bluetooth connectivity drops momentarily (tethering or connected to bluetooth keyboard)
I'm trying to figure out if it's the unshielded speakers on my office desk or if it is an actual problem with the bluetooth module on my Nexus 7.
Quick update, I've been able to recreate the issue with the screen refreshing/redrawing when a paired device is connected and disconnected. It seems that anytime you connect or disconnect a bluetooth device it refreshes whatever screen you are on (if it's a browser window where you've filled in a bunch of text on a forum you will lose all of it because the browser tabs refresh as well).
While I have not tested this specific BT setup I can confirm that the BT performance on this device is horrible. Specifically with BT headsets when used with any VoIP app or even Google talk.
I hope it is just a software issue and will be fixed with an update.

Here's a quick video of what's going on with mine. I have another Nexus 7 arriving today so I can test to see if it's just an issue with the one I currently have.

I have been unable to play an .avi movie with a bluetooth headset, it freezes after a few seconds. It plays no problem without it. I have also had issues with the tablet becoming very slow when tethering to bluetooth, at least for number of seconds (> 30), presumably when it got internet and started syncing...but no slowdown on the wifi, so it wasn't the syncing with the issue, but the bluetooth part of the communication, I believe. Anyone else been able to play movies with a bluetooth headset or speakers?
I have had no trouble at all with Bluetooth. My Samsung Hs3000 works great with music, movies and any internet or sys sounds. It Also has a very good range of at least 75ft or more in the open and covers my downstairs when inside.
I have been able to pair 2 headsets. 1st had no function at all, ext. mic did not work and no sound- using groove ip or playing music. 2nd was a stereo bluetooth set with ext. mic. No transmission with groove ip. However, with this one I was able to listen to music.
Also paired with 2 phones. One with JB-( Gnex )and one (Note)with ICS. No data transmission to tablet with either one over bluetooth.
same issue - getting sound on voice
I've bluetooth paired with phone and media audio connected.
I get the sound but not mic.
This is with nexus 7 4.1.1 using novero rockaway headset...it works fine with the ipad.
any ideas? I'm stuck.
Although my car shows my phone connected when I drive, while I am wearing the gear, any calls are routed through the gear.
I know it has to do with probably only one device can output the calls, but is there any way to go around this ?
Is there a quick way to disconnect the gear from the phone while in the car ? it's just that it's a lot of steps to get into the settings....
Was looking for something simpler and quicker.
Although it would be cool not to actually have it disconnected as I still like to see the notifications without pulling out the phone.
Anyone else with this issue ? Any suggestions...?
Only other thing I thought of is to find a software that would put me a toggle on the screen maybe ?
Thanks
No problems here. The phone call well get route through whatever device accepts the call

Same here.
Car has inbuilt blue tooth, if I accept via the car, it routes through the car.
I also have no problems. The interesting thing is, I can initiate a call on the gear, and it stays there for about one second, then transfers to the car speakers. Which is where I want it anyway.
I have the same issue on Tmobile S4 4.2, I believe the 4.3 update has different profiles that allow this. Right now I'm stuck to connecting to the Gear or a Headset, I have to choose between the two since they both connect as 'phone audio' under BT settings. Once 4.3 is release in 2018 (LOL) it should be resolved.
I have a similar problem...or worst
My camaro '12, uses 2 BT profiles. One for media audio and the other for phone audio, since the gear also connects to my GS4 using phone audio, my cámaro's infotainment screen frozes until I disconnect the GG to my GS4 or the cars phone audio to my GS4.
I can't even chance the damn A/C temp or speed when that happens. Hahaha

I have connected my LG G3 to the galaxy gear Samsung gear 1.
Everything is fine except that I cannot use both gear and bluetooth connection in my car, whereas, if I am using my Note 3 there is no problem in connecting both.
Wondering if there is a solution so that I can connect both bluetooth and gear to my 3G in my car
I have the same issues. I have a lg g3, galaxy gear 1, and bt headset. If the gear is connected, calls go to gear and not the headset.
When I had my galaxy s5 all was fine.
Anyone have ideas?

Something else I noticed, it may only happen to others with a lg g3, but if the watch is on and paired, the headphone jack doesn't work.

I don't have a g3 (yet) to test but I think using SQL lite editor and modifying settings.db under the settings app, you can adjust bluetooth priorities. By default priorities are all set to 100. I think if you changed the gear's priority to 99, it may work.

That may be over my head to an extent.
If it was laid out I could do that. But I've never used sql. I just tried and failed pretty bad.

Ok, I'll try to break it down. Hopefully, it works:
1) Get SQLite editor (sounds like you already have it)
2) Scroll down to "Settings Storage" and then select "settings.db"
3) Select global
4) find the entry "bluetooth_headset_priority_<MAC address of Gear>" and select it
5) Click menu > edit record
6) Change the priority from 100 to 99 and save
Hopefully, it helps. Let us know.

Not sure. I would try setting both the gear and your headset to a positive integer and make sure the headset is set higher and see what happens. Not sure if this will work or not but it can't hurt to try.

I've setup Trigger profiles to do exactly this back when I was on 4.1.2 since multiple devices can't be connected at the same time on that version. From Android 4.3+, multiple BT devices can be connected at the same time and I thought it was at the OS level where the system would use whichever devices answers the call...... I guess it is a function of the Samsung dialer after all.
Hi peoples!
I recently got my pebble and installed the app, but since I installed the app I've noticed something odd with my phone. When any bluetooth device connects, media playback will switch from the speakers to the earpiece, and bluetooth headsets wont play/control music anymore. When connected to wired headphones itll play, but the default audio buttons will change the call volume, not media. After 10-30min it reverts to how it should be...at least until a new bluetooth connection is made. This persists whether pebble is connected or not, or if the app is installed or later uninstalled. Is this something to do with the pebble's connection to the phone, and if so is there any way to fix it? I've tried a full system reset on the phone and it's good for awhile, then changes again. Is it possible to just reset the audio drivers?
For some background information, I'm using a Galaxy S4 (Verizon) running 4.3 and no custom/root software. Both the Pebble app and firmware are up to date (as of 12/10/13), and accessibility services are turned off.
I'd appreciate any help I can get, thanks in advance!
What media apps are you using? Some apps such as BeyondPod have a setting on whether they send the song info to the bluetooth device or not...turning this setting off will correct some issues.
Note 3 -- Tapatalk
I got my Pebble two days ago and I've used it twice so far in my car with no problems. I use a Bluetooth receiver which I plug into my cassette adapter since I don't actually have a car system that has Bluetooth. I've also been able to control the music from the watch with no problems. I use a N5.
I got a N4. No problems over here. I would look over the settings of whatever apps you use! And play around with those.

I recently got a new Nexus 6 and I'm having bluetooth connection issues specifically in my car. Bluetooth will connect but when it connects it shows "Bluetooth connected (no media)". So I can make phone calls over bluetooth in my car but my phone won't play media (waze/gps, local music, streaming music, etc). I have no problems connecting via bluetooth to a portable bluetooth speaker at home. Previously I had a Nexus 5 that I had no problems connecting to my car's bluetooth and making phone calls or playing media.
I've searched forums/google and have disassociated the pairing multiple times, ensured that 'Media audio' is checked in the bluetooth paired device settings, deleted the bluetooth cache, rebooted and nothing seems to resolve the (no media) issue.
It's strange because everything was fine with my old Nexus 5 and the Nexus 6 works fine with my separate portable bluetooth speaker but it won't play through my car's bluetooth. Has anyone experienced this?
Thanks!
Anyone?

Sorry I don't have an answer, but you're not alone. I have exactly the same issue. Normally seems to solve itself when I manually turn BT off, then back on. But I hate to do that because it disconnects by Moto 360 and screws up a lot of other Tasker profiles that trigger from connecting to my car audio sytem. Sometimes I have to completely reboot the phone to make it work. I've tried a lot of things, but no luck yet. Hope someone knows the answer!
I had this problem one time before. Try bluetooth autoconnect. A2DP seems to not be running on your phone.
I'm having the same issue - brand new and it doesn't want to work on either of my phones I'm questioning the Integrity of the cheap $20 Walmart bluetooth car head unit
Is there a resolution for this problem? I've got the same issue as the op going on...
it can only be one of 3 things;
-your rom
-your kernel
-your vehicles bluetooth version
you can change/fix the first 2 things, but the third one is an expensive fix..
I'm running stock on the Nexus 6. It's not even rooted. Searching on this problem, there are posts that go back a few years. I figure with so many people running into this problem, someone must be working on a solution. I guess it's easier to just plug in the auxiliary cable?
I have the same issue . connected but no media. It worked properly after I re-booted the phone. We shouldn't have to do that so this bug needs fixing.
I have this problem with my new pioneer mvh-36bt deck. Only when I'm on a custom ROM though. I'd goto more options check all the boxes. Then clear Bluetooth memory on deck then it works. When I'm on stock rooted image no problems.
I had a similar issue when I switched from. Nexus 6 to 6P. In my case it turned out to be that there can be only 2 portable Bluetooth players that can be connected to my car multimedia. Deleting one of the 2 portable players and re pair Bluetooth resolved my issue
My Nexus 6 is the only Bluetooth device synced in the my car. I've tried deleting and re-pairing, turning the phone off and back on, turning Bluetooth off and back on, and nothing seems to work. :/

I have the same problem. My N6 never had any BT issues until I bought my new car today and tried to pair. My friend's iPhone worked just fine, so I'm pretty sure it's something in N6 that's the problem. Call function works but no media. This is very frustrating...

Curious if you've selected gear icon, in BT screen by device name, after paired AND while connected to view / enable all relevant options?
Sometimes when I pair I must manually update the BT access, though rarely. I presume manufacturer pairing settings (external device, not N6) don't default to all available options. Can't hurt to make sure media etc. is enabled. Good luck.

Oddly enough, when I connected my phone to BT speaker today, no media or phone cnxn. Took my own advice and checked the BT settings. All were checked.
Unchecked then rechecked phone and media. Slight delay after uncheck before system let me reselect. Voila! Phone and media cnxn restored. BT was connected whole time.

OK, I got mine to work on my 2011 Lexus by first pairing it as a phone then pairing it as a Bluetooth media player. Works great! Frustrating that I had to do it that way, but I'm happy I don't have to plug my N6 into the microphone jack anymore.
This thread might be dead but I found it when I searched for a solution and so will be others.
I got a Kenwood DDX5016BT in my car. When you connect a new device it will just work as a phone. To enable media you have to go settings and register it as a Bluetooth device. It right on top of the iPod settings. Hope this helps anyone or even me in a few months lol

Hi, is there a chance to use two phones at the same time? Every day I use the iPhone, but I would like to be able to use Google Maps on the Discovery Pro screen in a VW Passat. Is it possible to connect an Android phone with Android Auto, which will display Google maps to me, at the same time be connected via bluetooth from the iPhone to be able to call from it? I am currently using MirrorLink, but this service works very poorly and slowly. Apple CarPlay is not an option, their maps are miserable. Thanks for help.
Ok, no one wrote back, but I found a solution.
I have Xperia Z5 Compact, on which I made root.
I have permanently turned off the Bluetooth sharing service. After installing Android Auto, I went through all the configuration steps. The service started working on the car screen without disconnecting the connected iPhone X via bluetooth.
The sound and picture are sent via a usb cable. When someone calls the music pauses, and when the conversation ends it plays again. It is a perfect combination if CarPlay is not enough, and we don't want to stop using the iPhone.
Thx for the interesting post and especially to come back with a solution. A real strange thing that people actually do follow ups.
I am also interested in this. Having multiple phones I would leave 1 in the car just for Android Auto and the other one just as a phone. If Android wireless was active the use for me would be a bit less needy.
What some people forget is that your phone barely charges if you use Android Auto and that would make it better for me to really charge my other phone while driving. During Android Auto and connected to the USB of the car the phone is in data mode and will probably only output like 400 to 500mA . This is barely enough to keep the charge.
The S7 that I have goes to about 1.9 Amp(so 1900mA) when charging on a non QC charger so after lets say an hours drive it gets more than enough juice to keep you going.

I installed the Root Essentials app from Google Play and found the "Bluetooth Sharing" service in the Memory / Application Manager tab and turned it off. From the normal application settings, this can not be done. Thanks to this, the sound and image from Android Auto is transmitted via USB, and my iPhone is connected via bluetooth for calls.

The steps I have described have helped in the operation of AA, so that the car does not disconnect my Bluetooth-connected iPhone. When I used MirrorLink, my iphone was not disconnected and I could use both phones without any modifications.
In my case, I turned off bluetooth first and then I installed and configured Android Auto with my car. As a result, the iPhone was not disconnected which made me happy. I would also like to add that the procedure was performed on the Discover Pro radio in the Passat B8 with the App-Connect service.

I did try almost every configurations ... I erased previous telephone settings in head unit to start with a clean install. BT has been disabled on tablet (the one dedicated to AA). As soon as the tablet is connected through USB, the phone is deconnected from head unit, and the reason given is that BT is already engaged by another unit (the tablet 0-o). I did a hard reset of the tablet. No joy either... I don't know what to do next. I should stress the fact that AA is installed from APK, as the tablet is not eligible for having AA.

In Volkswagen cars, Android Auto connects via USB, however the phone connection is connected via bluetooth. Maybe your car is configured differently with AA. I also downloaded AA from the apk file.
Can your car simultaneously handle two phones connected by bluetooth? It is possible in the Passat. Maybe there is a problem here.

That needs to be checked for sure, but I still cannot understand why, with BT completely removed from tablet, Head unit still maintains a kind-of BT link with it, thus disconnecting the phone ... It appears like once AA is running on tablet, all other BT connections are killed.

Hi Pixege,
I have the exact same setup (Sony Xperia Z5 ROOTED + iPhone + VW Discover Pro on new Tiguan) and followed your instructions here but no luck.
Here's what I've done.
1. Made sure there is no pre-existing bluetooth pairing between Xperia and Discover Pro) - I reset the Discover Pro just to be sure
2. Paired iPhone with Discover Pro (this is the phone I want to keep connected via bluetooth for calls, etc.)
2. Permanently disable bluetooth sharing on Xperia using Root + App
3. Installed Android Auto on Xperia and connected device to Discover Pro - AA now works fine
This still caused the iPhone to be disconnected from bluetooth... when connected via AA, no other connection is allowed.
Did you do anything different from the steps above as it didn't work for me.
Thanks for helping out.

I was able to root my LG V35 and turn off all BT using Link2SD. Now my old V35 is plugged into my car's USB in the center console and my new S20+ connects to the car on BT for calls. It took a lot of effort, but thanks to all the tips posted here, I was able to make it happen. Rooting the V35 was the hard part. Getting the boat loader to unlock took a lot and I bricked the phone twice trying. But rooting after that was somewhat easy, though frankly, I'm not sure how I did it exactly. I was able to unlock the boot loader using the instructions here, step 1 and 2. Though somehow, I bricked the phone (for a 2nd time) trying to get through step 3. I was able to get it to go into fastboot mode and I flashed the boot with an img that was labeled twrp and magist 7.5. I wish I could remember where I got that image from, but after that, magist was installed on the phone and a few clicks later, suddenly it was rooted. Then disabling BT with Link2SD only took a minute.
GREAT post - THANK YOU!!
I have a Note 20 Ultra and a 2020 Tiguan SE, and my 2 issues are (were):
1. I hated connecting and disconnecting the phone to cable for every damn time you enter the car.
2. Since I am spending a lot of time in the car, not necessary driving - I wanted more. Especially Video.
Knowing that AA uses BT and automatically pairing every devices it connected, I though to go to iOS, and get a cheap Iphone to run Carplay, while my Note will stay on BT.
The idea of disabling BT from system after root never crossed my mind. So once seeing that post, I ordered from Amazon a Pixel XL, rooted it and removed all the un-necessary crap out of it, disabled all APKs and services using BT - and it works like a charm.
I have my Note in and out from the car with me, working on BT, and the rooted Pixel juts sits in the car connected with the wire.
Thank you!

Hi,
Not anything in particle, where are you stuck?
I just used any of "app disabler" app from Google Play and freeze every service you find for BT.
Other then that, once in car, make sure your phone is up and running the BT connection, before you plug the secondary device into the wired AA connection.
Good Luck.

Other then that, once in car, make sure your phone is up and running the BT connection, before you plug the secondary device into the wired AA connection.
Good Luck.

Hi,
That's what I did.
I don't know why it doesn't work for me.
Have tried them all before.
New ROM, Call function disabled, Android Auto function disabled.
I don't know...
Maybe it's because of the VW firmware?

I have a 2020 VW Tiguan SE (USA) if it helps.
Rooted with Magisk
I used "link2sd" and "servicedisabler" apps to do it, but their are plenty others out there who will do the same.
The 2 BT services I disabled in the Pixel XL which is connected now to AA by wire are:
com.androind.bluetooth
com.androind.bluetoothmidiservice
And once again, be sure to be paired and connected with your phone ti BT, before connecting the other device to the wired AA.
