How To Root Sony Xperia ZR Lollipop 5.1.1 , Please Help Me ?
So far the only option is to upgrade by flashing pre-rooted flashable zip.
You could unlock the bootloader and flash kernel with recovery.
Then install supersu files in the recovery.
Then go back to orginal kernel, reboot and you will bee rootet.
But only do this if you have a backup of the . TA partition.
There are several guides on the forum how to do this.

Unlocked or locked bootloader?
If you are unlocked, here's the easiest way.
1. Download Advance Stock Kernel with Recovery v05 (FW: 10.1.1.A.1.253) (NEW) from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2167381
2. Download SuperSU-1.25-Busybox-1.20.2-UPDATE.zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38154110&postcount=2
3. Copy SuperSU-1.25-Busybox-1.20.2-UPDATE.zip to your SD card.
4. unzip Advance Stock Kernel with Recovery v05 (FW: 10.1.1.A.1.253) (NEW), and extract boot.img.
5. use fastboot to push boot.img (Which contains CWM).
6. Reboot into recovery, and flash SuperSU-1.25-Busybox-1.20.2-UPDATE.zip from SD card.
You've got root.
i think its locked mate, i had it rooted at 434 version and now that i putted 253 version via flashing it erases root and i think that it locked bootloader, i dont know /;

*Follow the steps exactly and you will get back root with recovery. Not sure whether you have recovery in the first place as you didn't state.
No have any recoveries, just simple phone with the new firm
Xperia Z
Guess you need to downgrade first and ensure you have root, recovery before moving to the instructions which I have passed you earlier on.
Flash with .434 ftf, root and install dual recovery for locked bootloader. Goto CWRP recovery (volume down) and wipe only system install either of the available already rooted zip. dont wipe cache/dalvik cache. reboot. install supersu from play store and uninstall previously installed superuser app. thats it!
Root from stock Rom will be here soon just wait. If someone wants to root they have to downgrade and update again using a different Rom if u do that won't the phone be unbranded then meaning future ota or pcc Won't work or am I being daft ,

If need be, keep a copy of the branded/carrier FTF on your computer that you can flash back to if you need anything to do with warranty, easy. For now, Global unbranded seems to be the way.

Do I lost my programs when I do it this way?
Hey guys i rooted my phone using the vroot option, everything went smoothly and my device gained root, The problem is how do i change from the Chinese supersu to normal supersu?
I've found guides on youtube to change it over but when i did the options my root was removed instead of changing over to normal supersu,
I have rooted my device before using flashtool by changing the kernel to an older 1 and then using doomlords method, but this time my kernel wouldn't change in my phone settings as it was saying i was still on the one i had, hence why i had to use a different method
I'm no n00b to flashing devices as I've had previous experience with other android devices,
Some help please, much appreciated
U have cwm recovery then flash supersu.zip from the supersu site. Or when not open the zip and test to install the apk over it.

Thanks for replying, I've already sorted the problem out by trying flashtool again and somehow it succeeded
Hey, so I'm on 4.3 10.4.B.0.569 and there is the 4.4 Kitkat update available (10.5.A.0.2300). It's a C6603 on Three UK (Cust num. 1270-6263). It is rooted via a Bootloader Unlock and has a CWM Based Custom Recovery installed. I cannot update via OTA since the stock recovery is gone, how do I flash back the stock recovery so I can do the OTA? I know it may be as simple as 'Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img' but I don't have any IMG for it and can't find any. Any help? I don't want to factory reset and lose data, it'd be an effort to restore.
The Z doesn't have a stock recovery or even a recovery partition.
To update via OTA, you need to relock your bootloader. Make sure you flash a stock kernel before doing so.

Ah ok, well what's the best way to go from 4.3 Unlocked BL Rooted to 4.4 stock without losing data?
Probably just flash an FTF with Flashtool (choose one from the general section) without wiping data, then flash the latest advanced stock kernel and root again.

There is no stock recovery on xperia phones
Only time it has recovery when you do an system update, after system update is done it gets erased as it has no use

If the newroot tool deletes the cmw recovery then yes it will
But if you unroot you will not be able to access recovery even if the recovery is still on your system partition because you do not have root ....
Hey guys,
After hours and hours of searching forums and trying things, I decided I need help.
I just bought a Z1 (yes, they're still for sale) and I wanted to update the firmware to the newest .283 lollipop. Also, I want to root my device.
I have rooted Android phones before, and I have some experience flashing Custom ROMs etc.
As I have understood I have to downgrade to a 4.4 ROM first, to get root. Then my plan was to install recovery and install .283 Pre-rooted ZIP in Recovery.
So here's what I did:
-Flash 14.1.G.1.534 firmware
-Root using KingoROOT
-try to install recovery
-boot into recovery
-install pre-rooted .283 Lollipop ZIP
-phone won't boot anymore.
I am still able to flash the newest .283 with the FTF file, but then obviously it's unrooted. I also cannot figure out how to flash recovery after flashing .283 FTF. (Flashing recovery seems to work, but I cannot enter recovery via adb or otherwise)
So if anyone can tell me what I am missing, please do!
for what i know the ftf files can't be prerooted. so download a prerooted zip file and install it from a recovery. btw if u're gonna try any custom rom, don't forget to backup your drm before unlocking bootloader. That's a must for xperia devices
Thanks. However, I can't get Recovery to work after flashing Lollipop firmware. And when I downgrade and then flash the ZIP from recovery, the phone won't boot.
I succeeded! The steps that led me to this result:
-flash KK 14.4.A.0.108 in Flashtool
-Root the firmware using Flashtool/SuperSU method
-flash Recovery using Dual Recovery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2647487)
-Flash the Pre-Rooted ZIP in Recovery
-Success!!
