Dear Folks,
I'm considering to buy a I9305. Actually I wonder how well the general custom ROM support is? I currently own a Samsung Galaxy S5 (I900f) which I don't like. The phone itself is awesome but the problem is that Samsung didn't provide (any?) documentations about the phone. Therefor the only good working ROMs are the TouchWiz ones - there're a few nice ones out there, but anyway, since Samsung doesn't seem to bring Android 6 (M) to the phone it's gonna be dead soon.
People told me that it's a completely different Situation for the Samsung Galaxy S3: You've got a good custom ROM support and a lot of them work with every funtion the phone provide with almost no bugs - is it the same for the S3 LTE? Do the ROMs work well? Are there good ones (Cyanogenmod and SlimRom are my favorites)? Is it likely to have a good custom rom support with Android 6 as well?
Thank you so far!

Hey,
the easiest way to see is to check the ROM section.
It differs between the i9300 and i9305. There is more development going on for the international S3 than the LTE version. But thanks to rodman providing most lollipop ROMs for the i9305.
What's good and what's not is a matter of taste and need. But I recommend slim, resurrection remix and cyanide - the latter two are based on cm with lots of features cm is missing.
About custom ROMs and android 6 - we don't know yet if we get any ROMs. It all depends on the devs.
All right, thank you a lot! By good I mean ROMs which only have a few bugs (if any). GPS should be working as well as no extensive battery drain. I'm quite satisfied with very simple ROMs as long as they're smooth and have (almost) no bugs. That's what I'm talking about. The situation with the S5 e.g. is very bad if you want a non-TW-ROM.
GPS is working on all, battery depends on usage of course but with most ROMs you'll get through a day.
Camera is kind of a known issue. Sometimes it loses connection but I never faced such problems. Mhl is not working due to missing sources. Everything else is working with common CM bugs on cm based ROMs.
All righty mighty. That sounds kinda okay for a daily driver. The thing is I'd like to use the phone as a daily driver. If e.g. Slim Rom 5.1.1. is working nicely I've got no problem using it for another two years. I guess most Apps will be working with Lollipop in the near future.
Last but not least, 2400 Mhz is not covered which might gimme some LTE issues in germany, right?
Yeah most ROMs are totally fine for being a daily driver.
I'm not sure about LTE and its frequencies. I'm using Vodafone and have no issues.

Hello,
I'm about to get the i9305, I basically got that I need to stay with the samsung roms to have a fully working device with no bugs.
Even though I'm not a fan of touchwiz (in fact I prefer stock Android) I could try some ROMs (not based on stock) but I read that they will never work properly due to lack of sources code. What are the things missing or that will never work?
I'm coming from the LG O2X that drove me crazy cause the stock roms sucked sooo much and we (users) had the same problem but custom roms with NVIDIA!
I'm going with this phone cause it's the only one I know that gives me:
- good battery life among latest smartphones
- 2GB of RAM
- REMOVABLE BATTERY
- 42Mbit in 3G
for that price. So maybe I thought that having touchwiz is the price to pay to have these specs at this price.

Well, most of the ROMs for the Galaxy S3 I9300/I9305 are stable. Because the developers make the ROM based on the official update from Samsung. If you want a stock looking ROM, install ROMs based on AOSP like CyanogenMod, AOKP and Paranoid Android. AOSP ROMs are fast because it is light, no bloatware. AOSP ROMs are quite stable though.
Other than ROMs, there is also some custom kernels, Most of them are also stable. To me, I like the Perseus kernel by AndreiLux because it saves my battery life. The highest I have got are about 2 days unplugged with 5 hours of on screen time.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
for example, camera quality is worse
If I remove bloatware (if possible) from Sammys ROMS will they be as fast?
No problems with Sammy based ROMs, so don't worry. They are stable and smooth. Use Titanium or other (root) uninstaller to remove bloatware! On benchmark tests, you will get lower results comparing to 4.2.2 ROMs, but you won't noticed that in everyday usage! I am the one who loves CM based ROMs, but some problems with network are good reason for not using them at the moment. :fingers-crossed:
you will notice the difference, AOSP ROMs will be smoother than debloated Sammy ROMs, so the choice is yours
but aosp roms will ever show problems on this phone ;(
yes
are the other phones affected too? like i9300 and Note?
yes
Flashing custom roms has pros and cons no matter what the phone.
I just like flashing new roms

Some AOSP based ROMs have quite a few bugs though, that's keeping me away from them.
Does the LED indicator work on custom roms? Especially CM. I care about notifications mainly.
Everything works like a charm. You can use some free app for more options (I'm using "Light Manager").
I wonder if the recent fixes for the camera released for i9300 will be applied to i9305 as well

I was talking about AOSP roms, I believe that is based off Sammy ROMs? You said non-sammy ones have problems with network that it's keeping you away from them
Yeah, I said that, but I am on Sentinel ROM v4.40 at the monent, no matter on that "network problem" I have with all CM 10.1 ROMs.
I'm looking to buy an S3 and I really can't decide. My carrier now only sells the i9305, and when I want warranty, I would have to stick with them - used i9300 prices in my region match or surpass the carrier's price for i9305.
My only gripe with the i9305 is that I don't really see too much development going on. Sure, there is CM, but with my current trusty old SGS I saw that CM/AOSP mods can bring so much difference - like SlimRom for example.
Are there quality ROMs out there, will there be a strong support later on?
I doubt that i9305 users are familiar with i9000 development
Development i see devs as more likely to switch to SGS4 rather than take on I9305 .

Theres plenty of 9305 roms.. 95% of functionality of the 9300.. Your not missing out on anything over the gain through having more RAM etc..
9305 will continue to be developed and at less regular intervals the updates will be aligned to a great degree with 9300 functionality wise.. Sure a few of the ROMS that are for 9300 would be awesome for the 9305 but mainly visuallly i guess..
Then again the 9305 roms a few of which are outstanding in their own right !

How come i tested many I9305 roms and the all have and work very nice so no problems here, your statement is incorect, i was having the same problem and i got i9305 and i'm very happy, the devs we got working for i9305 are fewer but they are some of the best, and just look at the version numbers on romes and you will see that they work to improve! I love my I9305 and I don't ever look back , for not taking a I9300 even if some friend cald me crazy because i didn't get a S4 but in the end i was right not trowing the money out the window.
So if you want an S3 get the I9305 and you will no regret it (i came from i9000 and must say that i look at i9001 and i9003 and they still got a good dev team after all this years so way not i9305 , some really think that a phones has a bad dev after they trie only 1-2 roms).
If you don't need 4g you will even get a better battery life that the i9300.
my statement is fine. There is more than 5% difference in development between these to devices. It's far more
I think mick was saying that there's 95% functionality, not 95% of ROMs, numerically speaking. Since there's massive overlap of features among many different ROMs, what he's saying might not be so far off...
Sent from my GT-I9305 using Xparent Skyblue Tapatalk 2
95 percent of functionality can be achieved with like two ROMs. that's a very bad indicator for a development support
Yes 95% of funcitonality.. not roms, not close sure.. but given the overlap and given the benefits.. well i personally don't feel i'm missing out and any 'feature' that comes to the 9300, well lol 95% are at some point integrated.. If you want to be first cab of the ranks just for ROM purposes then go tthe 9300.. Also keep in mind yes only a few ROMS have the majoirty of features but these roms and now with the new kernals for 4.2.2 work a treat and a very customisible/configurable..
If someone could likst features they believe don't exist for 9305 that are really valuable ones i'd love to hear about them.. Otherwise it's just athesics which isn't to be underestimated but not a game changer givne what is available..
pretty much sums up my view and very happy with 9305 roms.. Ok sure would love three times the number but again not really missing out and 2gig ram is great.. oh only peeve for me is no FM radio which does suck but with 4g here etc download speeds make up for any shortfall and i can also utilise tunein radio or the like..
Anyway rant over guys! Happy hunting
My dad has an S3, and he loves the whole idea of Android, but he hates the bloat that comes with his phone.
I had offered before to install a custom ROM but he did not like that idea. He had gone to egypt for a week and ran up charges because his phone had been using loads of data. On inspection it was most of the samsung apps using data which he wasnt even using.
So he's come to me to sort it all out.
I want something rock solid stable, so even if that means no Kit Kat.
Looking here i can see the latest stable is at 10.1.3 which i believe is 4.2.2.
Does anyone have any experience with this ROM on this phone? Cheers

Hey Hey.
First of all: 9300 or 9305? Be aware of that before you will brick the device - that will make him nervous for sure Just asking to make sure since you gave 9305 CM link and started topic as a S3 device.
Second: There is a problem with 4.3 builds on our devices (official and unofficial aosp's) . Read last pages of this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-cyanogenmod-10-1-official-nightlies-t2157651
That's a pain for me too as a S3 LTE device user. I was buying it hoping that it will be as easy and fun like S2 or S3 with so many possibilities. However truth is brutal and S3 LTE is far from both of them and we still don't have 100% stable AOSP rom. All AOSP's available for our device got cons and are not 100% operational/working like officials do. If you got 4.3 (official) already - you got KNOX and that creates limit's for modding as long you want keep warranty. If not - I highly recommend a custom rom based on official rom (4.1) (For Example: The Galaxy Project v11.30 with some tweaks and custom stable kernel. Just install and you are ready to go
I like Alliance ROM with the Alliance theme, has an AOSP look but without the poor quality camera or battery issues associated with Cyanogen.
What about just removing the bloatware from the stock rom? For my gf's phone I just rooted then used titanium to remove the unnecessary crap. Gives her fewer options to stuff up lol
Sent from my GT-P5110 using Tapatalk
I would advise you to use a rom based on stock samsung rom. This way you maintain the former look and feel while getting the benefits of less bloat.
If your phone is in deed an LTE I would suggest to take a look at the TGP (The Galaxy Project), rXtreme, or Alliance roms in the development section.
Since official update missing from too long time in latest months I have searching for alternative ROM or MOD since I cannot spend a lot of money for a new smartphone again after only a couple of years and with stock ROM Optimus for some reason is more laggy than smartphone far less powerful.
Unfortunately in all I have found some issue and problems, so now I'm wondering what are the ROM\MODS more used by the P880 community on XDA..
Eventually a list of not-working things (eg missing radio, broken GPS, unusable MHL HDMI out etc.) would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Everything working with BlissPop 3.2.
I am using CM 11 nightlies and I am waiting for its final release !
after more than 1 year of flashing many ROMs, I think I've found my best tradeoff with this: omni-4.4.4-20150520-p880-FINAL
No bugs for my use and excellent smothness.
The only drawback is the long time required to turn mobile data ON.
To keep the thread alive..
My experience after 2 years using this phone and custom roms:
- phone is s**t (but I do not intend to buy a new one, so here goes..)
- Used some recommended roms laying around, but here are some roms I tested and used for longer period.
- I use phone for everyday use. I want lagfree, fast and good battery life (at least in deep sleep). I mostly use some simple apps, browsing, messages, pdf books, camera and video recording.
1. CM11 (4.2.2.)
Great rom, with some bugs, but nothing serious.
Occasional lags, good battery life - some builds were awsome (less than 0,3%/hour batt consumption).
Maybe little too slow occasionally.
2.CM11 (4.4.4)
Also great rom, with some nice features, much more polished than 4.2.2. At start there were great builds, but after some time it got worse. Probably kernel related.
Quite good speed, some lags, quite good batt (but not so good as 4.2.2).
If you did not restart phone in a while, it got very laggy - at least second period of rom development.
3.MAHDI FINAL
Best rom - is`s features are endless. Great for customising everything, quite good speed, but laggy from time to time - when you most need it! Battery similar to CM11 4.4.4, but better with speed. Quite good, but too much lag for me.
3.MOURTA LS+KERNEL
Best rom I used becouse of smoothness, features and customization of whole rom. Really smooth.
BUT it has a bug with gapps - if you do not google enable update service(s) - it does not go to deep sleep.
And MAJOR DOWNSIDE - worst batt life of all the roms I used. Tried everything, but batt life did not get any better. Especially when you use the phone - batt drains as hell.
So I got a felling that all this speed and other goodies comes with bad batt.
I can do this on my own, with any rom, by putting governor to performance
Too bad for this rom... Goodbye!
4.OMNI 4.4.4. final
So I tried this recommended rom - after reading some forum posts.
It is not so great with features (some of them I miss), but it is almost lagfree, quite fast, good batt life..
Maybe only rom I used, that is stable and fast enough for everyday use..
I miss some functions and LS speed , but for now - I am satisfied.
For the end
- I did not tried any custom kernels, at least for longer period. Had a felling they all got too bad batt life for my taste.
- tried also scripts and tweaks 2.2, but I did not notice any big improvment over my demands (stable, fast, batt).
And it would be great if we all together find the best rom for everyday use ?!
And maybe upload the zips to some cloud, for later generations to use ?
I personally would like to get CM11 4.2.2 builds.
And CM11 unofficial builds to try.
That would be great, if whole LG 4x community could create final ROM for our phone - with everything done, and working as it shoud be.
Personally I use Resurrection Remix 5.4.5 ROM. Pretty good performance and battery life after some tweaks (Power Nap, disabling some wakelocks etc.). But it wasn't updated since May 2015 Sometimes it's going crazy: interface, and system crashes, but that's ocassionally (every day ? - f%#&#).
This phone is S%$t, and sometimes I want to throw it through the window... But i'm poor xD
Blisspop 3.4
CM 11 3.14 Nightly
Some times I get no signal and the phone wont wake up from deep sleep but most of the time it's not bad at all.
Yeah bros, i totally understand you all...Every ROM i used (some for short, other for long periods of time) eventually turned to be ****. I of course dont blame not one dev, as their doing their best to keep alive a crappy smartphone. Right now i use for some time the CM 12.1 i think, as it was the most (at least) usable ROM, whitout huge bugs and a whole lot of lag. There were a lot of times i wanted to burn this useless piece of **** and throw it out the window...But finally the time has come. I ordered a LG G4! Comming next week. I will miss you all out there, as we shared strugle... :crying::crying::highfive:
I want an update to this survey. Still I haven't found a ROM where everything works. In some ROM doesn't work correctly the GPS, in other ROMS I aren't able to scan QR codes. other ROMS have TV out broken, fm radio broken or videocamera not fully functional or with worsened quality... other ROMS are laggy or with freezes.
This is a 1,5 Ghz quad core with 1GB ram, is an outdated device but still far more powerful than many entry levels in the marked that are released with recent Android OS version and are way faster despite their hardware.
What are the most newer ROM fully working for daily use?
MoltenMotherBoard Lollipop 5.1.1
The only not-working stuffs, that I know of, are QR code scanning and FM radio. QR code scanning can never be fixed for grouper blobs based ROMs. FM radio is never a critical feature. Most custom ROMs choose to ignore this for most Android phones, not just LG O4X.
If you ever build the ROM from source, then you will appreciate this Lollipop ROM that it is preserving most of the pristine Google AOSP experience as much as possible.
Unfortunately for me that my taste of Android OS has been less than desirable until Lollipop. It is my personal choice that I won't look back on anything lesser than Lollipop on my Android phone. This is also one of the reason I am staying away even from LG stock JB ROM. If we take away issues with OS aging, then we hope to be able to declare that stock ROM should be perfect. But I can tell you that for LG O4X, LG had failed this.
In short, I just want to tell you that it is very rare to find custom ROMs matching the functionalities of stock ROM perfectly. If you had to take the route of custom ROMs, then you need to choose base on features that matter most for your usage.
Is there any rom with sustained performance and stagefright fixes (maybe f2fs for perfomance)?
I don't really care if its 4.3, 4.4 or 5.1
As long as it has halfway decent battery life (I know the tegra3 is power hungry) and it doesn't have seconds of lag in whatsapp like the stock rom, I am happy.
I am like you, tried many Rom's untill today. I think our P880 is same but there is something different, I know devices have same parts but somehow different.
I mean some Rom works for me very well but same rom for another friend dosn't work as it's supposed to be.
Lately I am using Euphoria for daily driver. I like LP features. Jb or Kit Kat doesn't satisfied me. And I decide to buy new phone because like I said before P880 's hardware doesn't enough anymore. I think I will buy Z5.

Yes, I do agree with u on the fact that our devices are somewhat different from one another and we are having somewhat difficult time in coping with the new OS provided that our hardware are a bit outdated. However, I think this phone is really endurable and I am very satisfied with this, I have been using this phone for almost three years and it still function as it is so I have to say I am impressed. Currently I am trying out cm11 and mahdi 4.4., I have to say cm11 is rock stable but I would say mahdi has a lot of customizable features that I like. So it is quite difficult to choose among them. But for LP rom, I think it requires way too much resources that our phone might not be able to cope with.

With the announcement that CyanogenMod is dead. Are there any "unofficial" ROMs based on CM or AOSP for our TMO Note 4's in active development? I was running the official CM 12.1 roms for the Note 4 although minimal developemnt in the last year or so it was stable and was still getting the monthly security patches. I just discovered the CM14.1 ROM for the Note 4 over in the Verizon Note 4 forums last week.

Ive been using this one for about a week, few minor issues but nothing stopping me from using it as a daily driver. but it was just announced that development will stop on it due to CM being dead now.
For anyone that was unaware of that ROM there you go. Probably the biggest issue I've found sofar with it is GPS doesn't work. So if you need to be able to use navigation it's not a ROM for you. Cellular based location still works so things like weather based on location. Checking In on social media are OK. Also can't video record in 4k but 1080p and everything else camera wise seems ok
I'm pretty much looking for something providing the plan vanilla android experience with minimal customization. Similar to the official CM ROMs preferability nougat based since I've just had a taste of it.
I am not looking for modified carrier ROMs or highly customized CM or AOSP ROMs. I'd rather customize myself.
Hopefully this thread can become a list of these ROMs in development either on this forum or others that we can all explore.

Would love to see a list as well. Also, what minor issues are you having with that rom? Just about to flash it, coming from CM Remix.
Thus far the only issues I've noticed is no GPS, no 4K recording. 1080p max. The google camera doesn't work. The included camera works as well as that snap camera included in the CMRemix ROM. However you cannot use the flash in the snap cam. The camera will crash and your flash will be stuck on till you reboot. I've noticed more force closures with random apps. Might happen once or twice per day vs using the official CM12.1 ROM where I might have seen something like that once or twice a week. I cant say if that is related to the ROM or individual apps having issues with Android N period since its so new

GPS works fine for me on the 12/25 build. Try that one.
Are you absolutely sure you are getting a GPS lock and not just being located based on WiFi/cell? I'm running the 12/25 build as well and I cannot get a GPS lock using a few of the GPS testing apps in the play store. I didn't even notice the GPS issue since location based on WiFi and cell works pretty good. However when I tried to get turn by turn directions with google maps it wouldn't work that's when I noticed using some of those GPS testing apps.
If it is working for you, what bootloader/radio ROM are you on? I'm using EPJ2 here.
Does anyone know if there is a working port of MIUI 8 for our t mobile note 4. I just recently installed it on my HTC one m8 and I love it and the battery life is amazing. I think it would be amazing if we had a working version on our Note 4
