Hey folks, I was following the how-to-root thread and made it to the very end without seeing any error messages. Unfortunately, when I booted up the device, it got stuck at the black 'sony' screen. So I dutifully scrolled up to step 1, as I have done plenty of times before, but I am having some trouble recovering my device. Also I feel like I should say, my previous 5.0.2 install was done using that thread with no issues, but I'd like to get up to 5.1.1 since I heard the memory management issues I've been having were improved.
FWs were acquired from the sticky firmware thread:
23.0.1.A.5.77 - Unbranded - USA (1289-7524)
23.4.A.0.546 - Unbranded - USA (1289-7524)
I have tried this on W7 and W10. I am using the OEM cable with a USB 2.0 port on my motherboard.
Here is my flashtools error:

Edit: I have heard on the grapevine that PC Companion does not download firmwares properly on Windows 10, so I threw W7 on my secondary hard drive. Sure enough, it downloaded just fine. If your PC companion is giving you "Unable to communicate with Sony Update Engine" and you are on W10, there's your problem.
UNFORTUNATELY, I am now getting "Sony Update Engine doesn't have software available for your device." I've taken it to the search engines and it seems the general idea is to use flashtool instead. Unfortunately, flashtool's behavior on W7 is completely identical to what I've gotten on W10.
Hi,
Did you tried with another firmware like 23.0.A.2.93 - Unbranded - USA (1289-7524) ?
Regards.

Yes, I've tried with D5803_23.0.A.2.93_USA.ftf with the same results.
I remember having a similar problem on my Z aswell on a friends Z phone. The only solution I found was this one:
Unlock bootloader
Fastboot a kernel with recovery which supports Ext.SD - OR - if you still have a working recovery you can try to flash the kernel through recovery
Use another phone/cardreader to put a flashable zip containing your ROM on the Ext.SD. - Use a homemade flash-able zip using PRFC including only system and superSU and recovery, do not include kernels.
Boot into the new recovery and flash the ROM. Restart the device
--> At this point phone should be working again but bootloader is still unlocked
With an unlocked bootloader, flash a completely stock ROM and kernel ( you'll lose recovery ) - Try flashtool. For me, flashtool still didn't want to flash so I made a flashable FTF INCLUDING the kernel this time.
relock bootloader -
Flash rootable firmware ( for Z this was the current firmware, for Z3C you'll need to flash the old one ) - Now, with the bootloader unlocked, flashtool should again be able to flash to your device. IF flashtool still doesn't want to flash, I'm afraid you'll have to live with an unlocked bootloader for now and use the DRM tool linked in the post for the AndroPlus kernel to recovery DRM functions.
root the old firmware, upgrade to newest firmware using the known method to keep root and restore TA-partition ( hope you have it backed up ).
Neither flashtool nor SPC could flash to the phone, but after this everything went back to working and the phone being flashable again.
PS: Beware with what kernel you flash, on my first Z I flashed a kernel which prevented me from charging the phone until it was completely fixed. Due to problems with the ROM I was down to 7 percent when I flashed the original kernel and was able to charge again
EDIT: Some extra info added
Alright, so thanks for your post instead of shotgunning 'reboot it' like the folks at the sony forums are doing
I'm going to run over to Walmart for a cardreader since my nexus 4 doesn't have a slot.
Do you remember what kernel you used? I'll probably use TWRP with it since it had no problem putting nandroids on my sdcard before and I know how to work it.

On the original Z I used doomkernel, which was at the time the simpelest kernel which had recovery. For the Z3C I would recommend this kernel:
HTML:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/development/kernel-andropluskernel-t2937173
Since it is based of Doomkernel's kernel.
Just remember to have your TA partition backed up before you begin and only start with 100% battery left, you wouldn't want to be down to your last 7% like what happened to me ( I lost atleast 5 years that day )
EDIT: V60 of that kernel is for 23.4.A.0.546 so use that one and use a home-made flashable zip of that FTF file using PRFC creator but only include system, superSU and recovery, do not include the kernel or FOTA kernel or the other options.
I added some more info to my previous post. Hope you get the phone working again!
Isocadia, thanks again for your expert advice. I'm pleased to report that I have managed to unlock my bootloader, flash in the kernel & recovery, boot to recovery, and restore to a nandroid. I'm not quite in the clear as I still need to relock, restore drm, and actually get that 5.1.1 complete, but that shouldn't be a problem now that everything is behaving like I'd expect.
I used "Minimal ADB and Fastboot" for the fastboot commands and v60 of the kernel at your recc. I let the device charge for a few hours before starting and was pleased to see it at 98% when recovery loaded.
edit: no flashtool errors so far
edit2: op success! Either I had some old drivers around or W10 itself was the problem, because everything went fine in my fresh w7 install.
Great to hear you got it working again!

Hello,
I bought Xperia T from an eshop, yesterday it arrived. It was SIM locked to Orange Poland firmware. Since I didn't want to wait for returning the phone to shop and back, I tried to flash the new generic firmware to fix this problem. It didn't work, but in the end that's not the biggest issue I have. Only after I flashed the new firmware, I checked for locked bootloader. It's locked, so that's reason for me to return this device . I can do that no problem within 2 weeks (according to EU law), but device needs to be in original state.
I backed up the original firmware before flashing a new one, but flash tool does not work with my backup, so I cannot restore the original firmware. Does anyone know where I could find Xperia T LT30p_7.0.A.3.195_Orange Poland firmware? I tried searching, but no success...
Thanks for any help!

Solved, my backup (created as described in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32978279&postcount=2) worked finally, when I started flashtool, proceeded to flash firmware backup and only connected phone when it asked. Weird, but it solved my problem

Updating your flashtool to the latest version should fix the problem :highfive:
I've faced that problem before
Yep that did the trick. Thank both of you. I cant post on the original thread I linked, but I was going to reply to him to update his info on making sure every1 uses the latest flashtool so others don't have the same issue, but I can't post a reply there, (guessing because Im new to posting, even though I been on this forum awhile.)
Many Thanks.
dear friend i have the same problem. however i have found the solution on my own risk! i would like to share the solution that worked for me and i am sure that will work for you as well. just go to C:\Users\Milan\.flashTool\firmwares there you will find some files or folders. just delete them. after deleting those files, just switch off your phone(without connecting USB cable to it) then hold volume down button and same time connect usb cable. flashtool shows that you have connected your phone in flashmode. thats it! leave your phone aside and select the file you wish to flash. relax! everything will be done automatically.
furthemore, it may take some time to see your phone in home screen so just wait for 5minutes. then you will see that you have successfully flashed your firmware. for more, write to me @ [email protected]

как мне решить эту проблему?
Sony xperia me dual d2302 I was installed Expedia z3style custom ROM now I want to reflash my official firmware when I want to flash .Flash tool says
ERROR : Cannot open bundle flashing process canceled
Had the same error during my attempts to flash Xperia SO-02K firmware which I needed to flash for DRM keys backup. Tried Flashtool v0.9.18.6 and v0.9.15 for windows, both were able to read it, but threw "root : this bundle is not valid" and "Cannot open bundle. Flash operation canceled" errors during flashing (v0.9.34 and v0.9.28 didn't even recognize the firmware). Tried four different versions of the firmware and ultimately used newflasher v20 instead (latest version failed).
Hi y'all!
I have an issue with my Xperia Z concerning downgrading from Lollipop to KitKat...
Awhile ago I was using the Flashtool to upgrade to Lollipop, but something obviously went wrong since there was a significant amount of battery drainage, then not being able to use properly SuperSU for blocking some of the system apps and etc. Basically I was impatient to wait for the official update and went ahead of myself thinking I am a Android guru by doing something that looked pretty straightforward... My bad...
Anyways, now I simply cannot do a downgrade with various ftf's and I'm all out of ideas how to turn back to the previous Android version... Anybody have a clue how to overcome this problem?
Oh yeah, here's the log file if it makes a difference:

What version of Flashtool your using? If you using latest, go to Flashtool thread to see what version you need. It 8.6 or 6.8 something. You need to downgrade Flashtool.
Good Luck.

A little update...
I succeeded in flashing my phone to a earlier Android version, but the problem now is that I cannot start my phone... By pressing the restart button it keeps trying to start up with the welcome screen going on&off, like in a loop...
So now, I can't use my phone, I can't start it and I don't know what firmware I'm on now in the end...
Any advice?
P.S. - Problem solved with installing 5.1.1 CE1 ftf, so I'll see if it goes well maybe I'm not gonna donwgrade to KitKat... Thanks anyways
Hey guys,
I have the same problem with my phone by flashing stryflex v3.6 rom but the problem is i cant swipe the lockscreen up or even access recovery stuck with a softbricked device, cant even access recovery or even flash it back to normal by using flashtool. Can someone give us help on this? so we can put it back to stock and maybe install a custom sony rom. It is using TWRP Recovery which cannot be accessed.
I am using Windows 7 64 bit Professional and I cant find Flashtool v0.9.18.5 on the official website.
Help me what have I done wrong here.

Download Flashtool v0.9.18.6 from official site.
Option 1: Flash stock.
or,
Option 2: Flash tangerine-7.1.elf via 'fastboot mode' to directly get TWRP, then flash any ROM you want.
Hit Thanks if I helped

You don't need to access USB debugging. Just turn off the phone by pressing the button on the back.
Then follow what I said in post#2
Welcome.

Hiya Nandan.
I was in the same boat as you but I had no rom installed no software at all so I could not boot the phone up to enable USB debugging and unknown sources. If you do what I did it will hopefully rectify your problem.
Step 1. Download a kernel with twrp embedded im sure I used dooms kernel as far as I remember. There are many others just do a simple google of xperia sp kernel with recovery.
Step 2 . take phone case off the back hold button in on lower bottom for 10 seconds you will get 3 vibratations . good leave it at that.
Step 4 . open flashtool let it load completely. Now plug USB into your phone also have it into your PC ! Whilst plugging in hold down volume button to enter flashmode your phone should be green . hold up for fast boot mode which is blue either too let's you flash a kernel but fast boot mode requires "elf" kernel.
Step 5. Locate kernel install and then boot phone up whilst press the volume up button as its booting recovery mode will be accessed now flash rom of your choice or use Sony PC suite to go back to stock. Make sure you have stock kernel and bootloader locked or elsee it won't let you..
I hope this helps you out in someway as it did me good luck.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the instruction you have given me, I might try this method a week or two due to coursework. I been trying to get hold with some instructions but turns out the instructions you have given me is more detailed and i could understand what you wrote. I was wondering where i can get the stock kernel since earlier i tried using flashtool to flash the original rom which is vodafone locked showed some errors in the process. instead of using the first step to flash twrp, can i flash clockworkmod recovery and then install custom sony rom like for e.g. archxperia?
Thanks Nandan

If I was you I would just stick with doom kernel for now at least that way you can access twrp and sort your phone out. some very good roms available to install as soon as you access twrp. my steps are 1 to 4 I think I got distracted whilst putting the steps or I can't count lol.

Hi Chris,
So you want me to install Doomkernel first which has the kernel and recovery built in? By flashing it through flashtool either using fastboot mode or flashmode to flash the kernel. Then do I flash any rom I like or would you recommend me a rom to use? Would this also fix to try and access recovery? I did my research that it contains multiple recoveries such CWM, Philz Touch and TWRP. So lets say if I flash a custom sony rom such as archxperia or put it back to stock, will it also fix the unresponsive touch issue i have been getting on my phone or is this a common issue for the xperia sp? My bootloader is unlocked.
Thanks Nandan

Hey Chris,
I flashed it through flashtool the kernel which turns out it is going on a bootloop and cannot access recovery at all. It gets stuck at doomkernel logo and reboots continously. Can you help me out due to the bootloop issue and cannot access recovery. I tried holding volume up button to access recovery it wouldn't let me, now im stuck with a bootloop and it looks like its softbricked.
Thanks Nandan
Update to Everyone I fixed my phone following Chris's method or you can use Zenith's method alternatively instead, but i flashed doomkernel which fixed my phone, I first flashed one of the custom 4.3 roms then i decided to flash TWRP recovery then I flashed SlimRom 5.1.1 Sabermod with Quickboot which im using as a daily driver. If anyone was in my situation earlier on then use the methods provided by Chris or Zenith. By the way don't flash stryflex v3.6 because you might not able to access recovery or you might end up with a soft bricked phone so instead use stryflex v3.7 instead which is stable and also allowed me to access recovery.
I installed a rom kitkat on my xperia sp, he's with bootloader locked, (LBL), I would like to know the step-by-step procedure to re-stock ROM, or if there is any way to unlock the bootloader on this version to install the UBL lollipop if possible also the pass-by-step?
They write in a simple way because I speak Portuguese-BR, and I do not quite understand.
I used the google translator excuses!

did you install the appropriate drivers which can be seen in the drivers folder within the flashtool folder in c drive? There u must install 3 of them (Flashmode Drivers, Fastboot Drivers, Common drivers Viskan board)
