I just purchased the new Galaxy tab3 7.0 (SM-T210R) and am trying to root it. I was wondering if it is in the works or not? Or if it can be rooted using the same method as the Tab2? Thanks in advance.
my guess Is yes it can be rooted. but I am too inexperienced to go at it before the tutorials come out. does yours kick the internet out after being idle like mine does?
I suggest checking the Galaxy Tab 3 forum thread, you'll better luck there than here. Pretty sure it'll follow the typical means for samsung devices. Using odin, flashing a file over to give root.
thanks
Thanks for the responses. I haven't been able to find any forums or threads on the Tab3. Doesn't mean there isn't one, just that I can't find it. I will just wait patiently for a tutorial to come out before I attempt any flashing. I rooted my Galaxy epic touch 4g, and kinda created a monster in myself and can't stand not being able to have control of my devices. Really want to get rid of all the bloatware and load my rooted apps onto my Tab3. Thanks again!

But judging by some of the antipathy for this model we may have to wait a bit for the rooting to get done.:crying:

Unfortunately, I agree. I'm in the same boat. I'd really like to see multi-user support on this thing. Just looking for a ROM that is supported for this device.
It´s a pity, I bought it like 3 weeks and something ago in Spain and I really like it, but I want to root it and finally see some scene on the works, but after seeing the feedback this device is having also on Spanish Community, I am starting to guess that it will be a long time wait...
Tab 3 waiting time
After reading a bit more about this item, and my own experiences, I think some of the static is justified. This is after all a budget entry level offering. A couple things that have really annoyed me are the internet for public wi-fi. At one time trying to access local coffee shop internet caused a kernel panic. Fun stuff. In general I have also found the internet, specifically chrome, to be so slow, almost to the point of uselessness. Tragic really.
I have a pair of Sennheiser buds with mic and volume control that don't work with this model, I suspect that I will find out that mic and external controls are not supported by this models jack.
And three mute controls?!!? Really?
I'm really looking forward to the rooting of this tablet so I can get the tools to iron out a few kinks, and clear out the deadwood, I hope it comes soon.
So.... my contract upgrade and Valentines Day fell right on top of each other and my wonderful woman made a new Note 3 and Gear ($150 deal at Best Buy) happen for me (ain't she the best?).
Could someone advise me to the advantages and or disadvantages of not rooting the Note while still rooting and modding the Gear? I am not new to the root/mod world having done so on previous phones (2 previous Evo 4Gs, 2 EvoLTEs, and a few others for friends and family). I basically only needed root for wifi tether and titanium backup but would rather not muck up my new devices with aftermarket roms unless there is distinct benefit in doing so. I do see the advantages of root/modding the gear but what do I lose by not root/modding the Note as well?
Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

Howzit man, congrats on the phone and Gear.
Well I am running stock note 3 and null_21 on the Gear.
I am leaving the note stock for now because dont really have the need or want to root at this stage....but
Rooting the gear definitely has major advantages over stock. Just makes the device so more useful and fun to use. I am enjoying it alot more after root. Read the root guides and watch some video of rooted gears and you will see how much better it becomes
Cheers
Thanks man. So I won't be missing out on any Gear functionality but not rooting the Note is what I'm assuming?

There's a lot of functionality that you're going to be missing out on both devices by not rooting. You don't necessarily need a custom ROM on the Note 3 either to get significantly more enjoyment out of it. Keep in mind that there are some rooting methods out there for the Note 3 that trip the KNOX warranty counter and others that don't, so if you root make sure to pay attention to that. Once you're rooted install Xposed framework and grab some modules like Wanam, Tinted Status Bar, Disable Clear Defaults Dialog, and App Settings. Those are the 4 I use and they are glorious. As for the Gear I'm currently working on rooting/installing a custom ROM on it because I want Google Now, which apparently requires Bluetooth Tethering to be enabled from what I can tell.
If you're not comfortable with doing this just yet give it a few months, you'll likely get the itch to tweak with more stuff and the Xposed/root thing should scratch that for a while. I got my Note 3 at launch and literally installed my first custom ROM yesterday, so it's possible to hold off
I know I'm missing out on both by not rooting. After all of the stuff I've read on tripping Knox I'm wary about rooting the Note. I did notice however that I do already BT tethering as an option on the stock Sprint Note rom. I don't know if it will be limited like the wifi tether would be though. After all of the bugs and glitches and battery life issues I had with my old EvoLTEs I was just resigned to keeping the Note stock and especially now that they have officially confirmed 4.4 coming it's way. I'm planning in holding off on the Note until a root method for 4.4 comes around.
As far as the Gear goes... I am itching to root this thing badly and see what this little doodad from hell can do. I just need to sit down and read all of the tutorials as I have always done so that I don't become forum fodder for asking questions that were already answered.
Long story long... am I going to give up and Gear functionality by not rooting the Note assuming bluetooth tethering functions on the stock note rom or is the Gear root functionality independent of whatever phone I have it attached to?

I just found this article on Master Herald:
Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Android 5.0 Update Coming Later Than Planned as Company Readjusts Plans around Gear VR
Initial reports about the Gear VR claimed that Samsung are planning to put a lot of focus on the device, but it wasn’t until recently that the picture started to really clear up. It seems that the company really is moving forward very actively with the Gear VR, but at the same time, sadly, some of their current users will have to suffer a little bit. Recent rumors indicated that the Android 5.0 Lollipop update is coming closer for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, but there have now been reports that the update has been pushed back a little further.
According to the most recent updates, the new Galaxy Note 4 ROM has been handed over to a team that’s working to ensure the device will have full compatibility with Samsung’s Gear VR. Considering the Note 4 is one of the very few devices that will (reportedly) support the Gear VR, it’s no wonder that Samsung are trying so hard to make sure that this compatibility works flawlessly.
The Gear VR is Samsung’s own take on the Virtual Reality concept, although they’re approaching the problem from a different direction. Instead of selling a complete device including an internal screen for the goggles, the Gear VR is meant to be used with Samsung’s other devices. The user would attach, for example, the Galaxy Note 4, and would then use the Gear VR as a normal VR headset, using the screen of the device.
It’s not known how much different this technology will be from the Oculus Rift in terms of performance, and there has been some skepticism aimed at it due to the fact that it relies on one screen instead of two. Still, Samsung seem to know what they’re doing, as they’ve been putting more and more effort into promoting and developing the Gear VR further, so it will be curious to see where they end up with this device. Even if it doesn’t break any solid grounds on the VR market, it still has the potential to set interesting new trends for it, and at least push it forward to some extent. So far, its performance has been acceptable, although those who’ve tried it seem to be left with mixed opinions.
Other devices that are going to get the Android 5.0 Lollipop update include the Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy Alpha, Galaxy S5 mini, and Galaxy S4. Exact release dates for the new firmware version are not known, but it’s expected that Samsung will prioritize the devices according to their compatibility with the Gear VR. This could potentially indicate which devices Samsung is planning to make compatible with the headset in the future, too.
F%$& Gear VR, I want Lollipop nao =(

Nice find OP...why the actual **** would we care about gearVR ffs, they'll probably release lollipop for the note 2 soon and note 4 users will still be waiting because of their stupid "virtual reality" ****...

is this real and can we flash this in the uk??!
I doubt it's true. They provide no source and there is nothing about this on sammobile. Perhaps, they just mistakenly wrote 4 instead of 3?
I dunno there's a chance theyre lying but there's no way they've accidentally got this wrong, as they referred to the note 3 by saying like it's predecessor I guess we'll here about it in a few hours time if it's real but my bets on them just lying cause they're Weirdos
Well Samsung is making a very bad impression on people who picked up the Note 4 as their first Samsung device. I love the device itself but the TW interface and constant lag on a device this powerful is embarrassing. It worries me that instead of focusing on making TW better for the Lollipop update they are goofing around with compatibility for a $200 piece of plastic that won't even work unless you have a specific device with a specific version of OS installed. Maybe I'm being unfair but I also own a Gear Neo 2 which can't be used on any other phone. See like the Gear VR it can't be used on my Note 4 unless I have a specific version of OS installed. This makes the device extremely limited. It's nice they are making sure the VR is going to work for the few hundred people who have a Gear VR, but for the thousands who don't it isn't a very good excuse for taking 3 months to push out one update. Loving the Note 4 device but not loving TW or the limited customization. This doesn't turn me off android devices at all. Just turning me off from investing in another Samsung product.

Hm do you reckon they're telling the truth or just bull****ting again to shut us up? If this is true it could be available by Monday
well got it from 4 different reps...but whos nows with Sammy! lol
Just wanna say I have a gear VR and it kicks ass. Most of us that own them already know this, but many are still uninformed.
Not saying I like that lollipop is delayed for Oculus to finish tweaking the kernel (if that's actually even the truth), but I'm glad I will be able to use it with the new update and not be stuck with KK. Furthermore if they just ignored the VR so they could release an earlier 5.0, there would still be another update in the coming weeks and everyone would have to wipe, reflash, reroot, etc...
What's more, those of us who own the VR, if Samsung released an update without supporting it, there would be boatloads of complaints from people who either want to update asap, or accidentally accept the OTA.
you guys have clearly never used the Gear VR if you think it's a minor point of emphasis to Samsung. It is the wave of the future, in my opinion. Go ahead and downplay it or call it a niche product, but if you haven't tried it you really should. I understand the move to include the VR software with their initial release.
How many on here are going to flash stock ROMs anyway? They're rubbish. I'll be waiting for the official Cyanogen 12 rom.
I believe in Samsung as much as I believe in God. Samsung said they will release Lollipop in January and I'm still in January.
But if they want to postpone the release due to Gear VR I won't be mad at them, they would do it for a good reason.
Samsung know why most of us wanted a phablet with super high resolution. And they know that we want lollipop, but they know well that we will be more satisfied if we receive Lollipop + Gear VR + reality porn together

There is no point in you waiting. The CM ROMs for the Note 4 are great and are already nearly merged with the Official branch. The update from Samsung only matters if you actually want to use any of Samsungs products or if you really need TW features.

We're not saying the VR is complete rubbish. but that the Note 4 users who do not have a VR, or have no interest in it vastly out weigh the people who actively use the Gear VR on a daily basis. Your not the only person screaming that the VR is the future. Things like the VR been proclaimed to be the future since 2012 (Or Nintendo back in 1995), and while they will become more popular as they are adopted it's not going to happen overnight. Remember we are talking about a Rift unit that effectively is a $1000+ headset because you need the phone and possibly more seeing that Samsung has been very open about you most likely will be needing the Samsung gamepad as well. Upside is that it is more portable then other versions. As for if the device is a success or not depends on support. Remember when everyone thought the Ouya was going to be the next big thing? The VR is very much a early adopter device. Games are not really here yet as approximately 40% of all launch titles announced so far are actually either short videos or sit still environments like a fish tank. I definitely believe the VR is a step in the correct direction but it's not here yet. Maybe in a few years. My point is why make thousands of Note 4 users wait for compatibility with a early adopter device that few of the Note 4 base even have?

Understandable. even if you have the Gear VR waiting isn't any fun. I don't think there will be many users who would have to reflash an update. OTA is there for a reason. Reroot sure, but that takes a few seconds. Heck in the time it takes me to make a sandwich I can reflash and root my device without problem.

Waiting for the Gear VR to play catch-up is worth it I think.
The Occulus team and the Samsung people have some time to begin to learn how to work with each other and exchange code, and we get to wait a little longer to find out if Lollipop is truly ready for this anyway.
As it is, the way things were going, I was going to manually skip this update.
I love my stock experience (touch wiz notwithstanding) and I can't stand the hoardes that show up to learn how to 're-install KK 'cause the battery's no good anymore and what's up with the notifications....?'
Happened with Ice-Cream (lord help those still devoutly on Gingerbread), happened with Jelly Bean (you'd have thought KK was treading ground Vista there at the beginning) and, mark my words, will happen - with a vengeance - with Lollipop.
I can wait for the last man standing.
