Hello People Can Any One Tell Me If Theres A Way To Root The Xperia Z1 With The Last Firmware 5.11 Without Downgrade To 5.0.2
kingroot ?
As of the moment, there are no know root procedures for 5.1.1 that have been posted in the Xperia Z1 General section other than pre-rooted FTFs downloaded using XperiFirm through Flashtool. Although - if my memory serves me right - I think I read somewhere here that if you have an unlocked bootloader, you shouldn't really have to worry about rooting as apparently it is easy to get root access. I really haven't explored the part of unlocked bootloaders even though I have a phone that I can unlock my bootloader though to be honest.

Its just around the corners of Xperia Z1 General section I believe. But to be honest, I don't want to mess about with my bootloader - but that's just me, my own preference. The good thing is locked or not, we can still root our nasty Z1 phones!
If on 4.4.4 (Firmware version: 14.4.A.0.108):
Search and download
rootkitXperia_20140719.zip
Note: It is available here in our Community forums.
Use the rootkitXperia_20140719.zip to root your phone
If on 4.4.4 (Firmware version: 14.4.A.0.157):
Search and download
C690X_14.4.A.0.108_KernelOnly.ftf
C690X_14.4.A.0.157_KernelOnly.ftf
rootkitXperia_20140719.zip
Note: They are all available here in our Community forums.
Using Flashtools, flash the C690X_14.4.A.0.108_KernelOnly.ftf on your phone
Use the rootkitXperia_20140719.zip to root your phone
Then flash the C690X_14.4.A.0.157_KernelOnly.ftf back to your phone
If on 5.0.2:
Root with Kingroot
(Optional) Then replace Kingroot with SuperSU
Then install @[NUT] 's Dual XZ1 Recovery
If on 5.1.1:
Downgrade to 4.4.4 or 5.0.2 by using @Androxyde 's Flashtool
Root phone using the steps outlines above
Download a 5.1.1 FTF and create your own pre-rooted 5.1.1 Firmware, OR
Download pre-rooted Firmwares shared by our fellow community members

Personally though, If I have a new phone and it's on 5.1.1, I'll just downgrade to 5.0.2 because I can root it without a PC. Just use Kingroot, (optional) replace KR with SuperSU using Terminal emulator, and Baaaammm!!! phones rooted. Then I'll install DualXZ1Recovery, grab one of the pre-rooted 5.1.1, then flash away baby!!!

Make yourself a ftf.
Use flashtool to download your firmware. Use flashtool again to convert your firmware files to an ftf.
Flash the ftf with flashtool.

Yes.
I am new to xda and this is my first post.
I found this thread very helpful but am stock right now...I want to root my xz1 already on 5.1.1, right now I have both ftf files of 5.0.2 and 5.1.1.
My problem now is...how do I create a pre rooted 5.1.1 from the ftf file? And does installing a pre rooted firmware gives all the privileges such as installing fonts?..I'd greatly appreciate your assistance.

You have to use a Windows prog called PRF Creator. With it you can created your pre rooted zip file.
The pre rooted zip file will give you root privileges to your phone. With root you can basically do whatever you want.
To flash the zip you need a working custom recovery on your phone.

Hey,
The only way to get root on lollipop is to downgrade to 23.0.A.2.93 (or whatever it is) root that and install recovery.
After that you can flash a pre-rooted zip to get back to lollipop - all this can be done with a locked bootloader
Steps: (All specific instructions to root / install recovery / flash firmware are in the provided links)
Download and install Flashtool
Download a KitKat ftf download the ftf for your phone model (D5803) and download from the version 23.0.A.2.93 list, any brand will do as they are all the same on the inside
Flash the KitKat ftf using FlashTool
Root using giefroot then install recovery with XZDR
After you have rooted and got a working recovery you can go into recovery (when booting, on the sony xperia screen, when you see the green light hold the volume down button) and flash THIS PRE-ROOTED zip (Instructions to flash are within the link)

Thanks for the info.
Seems like a lot to go through to delete bloatware.
I may just stay stock, for the first time ever! Or wait until some genius figures out how to root Lollipop
One question, if I did root with the BL locked would I still get OTA?
Appreciate all the help.
Yep, you would still get OTA but if you did update you would loose your root

Wouldn't SuperSU's OTA survival option work? It worked with the 23.0.1.A.5.77 OTA
I mean root in KK and doing this instead of flashing a pre-rooted fw

Sadly the lollipop (OTA or computer update) seems to completely remove root no matter what survival modes / root keepers you have
In the latest version of SuperSU (SuperSU 2.46) the survival option has been removed. Hopefully soon there will be a way for survival to work - but root and recovery is always better
I had this question too.
Thanks everyone for answering it.
I still have a doubt: In HTC devices you did the same but sometimes you needed to update firmwares, radios and stuff via adb.
How do you do it in sony?or you don't?

{Short version; you don't}
After updating or flashing a pre-rooted zip everything is included in that zip / update file
And with the xperia series there is a model for Asia area (Australia, new Zealand etc) and a model for us and UK areas so if you flash a zip / update for the model that you have everything is included (usually you shouldn't have to flash radio or firmware manually unless you really wanted)

Thanks for the answer.
In HTC devices usually all worked well without flashing radios and firmwares but it was always better to keep them updated.Since I never found any tutorial on how to do that for xperias I found it strange.
sorry to bumb an old thread, but
Hi folks, i just rooted the Z3C of a friend and i am curious wether she could install future OTAs and just reflash superSU.zip from recovery or am i missing something? i find this easier than downloading a prerooted FW everytime.
I was a pro Symbian firmware modder in good old Symbian days. And now migrated to android.
Thus this will be my first Android root and if succeeded I'll make and release some good CFWs.
I want to root my Z3 Compact coz some apps needs device rooted and also I dont want any restrictions.
My Z3 Compact is under warranty and I dont want to brick it nor wanna void its warranty.
I just want to Root my Z3 Compact to stock original firmware.
Currently I'm on KITKAT 4.4.4. ver. 23.0.1.A.5.77. INDIA (D5833)
Not interested for Lollypop. So please dont suggest to.
I know I have to follow the following thread:
How-to: root, keep and backup DRM keys, etc. [KitKat/Lollipops]
Still some queries before proceeding further:
In the above thread it states that,
---Downgrade the firmware, as the root exploit only works with older firmware such as 23.0.A.2.93.
So does that mean I have to downgrade below my current23.0.1.A.5.77. ?
---Downgrade fw to 23.0.A.2.93 (Device D5803) or anything prior to 23.0.1.A.5.77 (december fw)
So does this method also work on D5833) ?
---Upgrade the firmware to the latest version, while retaining root access.
So do I compulsorily have to update to any latest ver. of Kitkat or Lollipop?
I dont wanna move from my current 23.0.1.A.5.77.
---Also what is pre-rooted image and non-pre-rooted image? Which one to go for?
---Also I dont want to Unlock my Bootloader so is Rooting possible without unlocking bootloader?
---Finally I need Stock Original Sony INDIA ver 23.0.1.A.5.77 (D5833)
So where can I find it?
Answer my queries as they appear to get a clear idea.

Cannot answer everything but will try : it should work on d5833. All you need is the old firmware for the root exploid. Pre rooted image is a zip file which u can flash via recovery after u root ur current firmware and install recovery. With this u will have root from the beginning. Nearly all flashable rom have root access.
Dont know if india has some difference in firmware but u could try a pre rooted international firmware.
Unlocking bootloader is not needed for root as long as u stay on stock roms. If u want try cm12 or something else u have to unlock.
Reason for needed downgrade is the fact to backup drm keys(ta partition). Root would be easy just unlock bootloader install recovery flash su, done. But then drm keys are gone. That is the Reason for this procedure. If a general firmware wont work for u u have to download the indian firmware via xperiafirm and use prfcreator to build ur own pre rooted zip

- D5833: For sure!
- Root with locked bootloader: Yep!
- Sony's stock firmwares: XperiFirm (KK or LP)
- Flashing stock firmwares: Flashtool
- Root: Downgrade to 23.0.A.2.106 fw (or older) and giefroot it (23.0.1.A.5.77 is not rootable by giefroot's exploit)!
- Utils for post root: XZDualRecovery and PRFCreator
- Pre-rooted image: Stock fw with root and/or recovery(ies)
- Non-pre-rooted image: Stock fw
Ok so once rooted can I again flash to 23.0.1.A.5.77 ???

Yep, do it this way:
- Install Dual Recovery (installer)
- Create a 23.0.1.A.5.77 pre rooted firmware with Super SU and Dual Recovery
- Flash it on recovery
Guys I found another guide which allows to Root on 23.0.1.A.5.77 . http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/how-root-xperia-z3-z3-compact-locked-bootloaders-1485046
What you suggest??
I'm not able to find anyware Indian ver. of Xperia Z3 compact D5833 KITKAT ver 23.0.A.2.93.
If anybody willing to help me get it somewhere only then I'm willing to root with the method mentioned here.
Also whats the diff. between Commercial/journalist firmware and regional ones?
simplest way to root ANY smartphone without pc
1. Allow unknown sources
2. Install aptoi
3. Search in aptoide "safe remove system app"
4. Install it and run
5. It requires root and give you "root tools"
6. Install kingroot from root tools and run
7. Now you have root
P.S. In some models, from 4.3+, TB or busybox won't work. But you can use root rights for any application and uninstall unwanted pre-installed apps.
Have fun!
Ok so I decided to downgrade to good old Kitkat 4.4.4
I have the ftf file.
I dont want to root to anything but simply plain downgrade to kitkat.
Can I simply use Flashtools for downgrading?? Will my drm keys and bootloader will stay intact or will it harm??

Drm stay intact. Simple flash kitkat and u are good to go. Backup internal sd. Will be wiped
IS this method still the best for root?? Or is there any newer easy method to root without loosing drm keys and boorloader???
I want to Stock root my xperia zc d5833.
I'm on latest lollipop. Do I need to downgrade to Kitkat 4.4.4 for the root or can I root directly on existing lollipop?
What if i downgrade then how to upgrade to lollipop without loosing root???
I followed this guide and successfully rooted my z3c.
Have some very important queries:
Will a factory reset wipe the root access?
In point no. 43 you said--Open Flashtool and select the non-pre-rooted fw (this is 23.1.A.0.690), but DESELECT system: in "EXCLUDE" make sure you check the checkbox next to "SYSTEM", flash it.
So here can I flash the latest lollipop 23.4.a.0.546 fw in place of 23.1.A.0.690 ??
Can I now directly update to any latest lollipop/marshmallow via OTA/pc suite without loosing Root access?
How can Root Xperia Z1 C6902 Lollipop 5.1.1 without pre-rooted rom. Is there other methods to root my Xperia Z1 C6902 Lollipop 5.1.1 . My xperia is installed with orginal Lollipop 5.1.1 stock rom. I want to root it. But i don't need Pre-rooted Rom, is there any method for rooting it. And also i don't want to downgrade it for rooting.
wait till kingroot
either unlock your bootloader or wait for a exploit
I really hope not.
Every Android version has a root exploit, that is a nightmare for security, this has to stop...
just my 2cents, in general you should be glad if there is none
Are you sure you have access to /system ?

No there isn't. towelroot is super old and doesn't work with 5.1.1, and there is no one-click method for 5.1.1 on the Z1. Only pre-rooted flashable zips are working right now.
Please don't give advice if you don't actually know what you're talking about ...
@ubrider you don't need to be rude - I suggest you delete your comment for your own sake.
As of the moment, there are no known 1-click root process for Xperia Z1 running 5.1.1 Lollipop. You can however downgrade your phone to Kitkat by flashing a Kitkat FTF using Flashtool. You can also downgrade to 5.0.2 and root it using Kingroot which is a 1-click rooting process. Once you have gained root access you can replace Kingroot with SuperSU if you want, install a custom recovery then install a pre-rooted 5.1.1
@ubrider, If you have solid proof that there really is an existing 1-click root process for our Xperia Z1 running 5.1.1., please share it to the community. This is what I get: https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=Sony+Xperia+Z1+5.1.1+root
Please, stay on topic. If you don't have anything constructive or polite to contribute, do not post. If you have a problem with another user, please ignore them, use the report button and allow the moderators to handle it, or deal with it yourselves via private message.
You can create your own pre-rooted 5.1.1 firmware with prf creator, from yours ftf. Then flash back to 5.0.2 without wiping data root with any oneclickroot solution that suits you and have a superuser or supersu.
And install xzdualrecovery. Then flash your pre-rooted firmware w/o wiping data.
This way you won't lose your apps data and won't need to unlock bootloader.
That was what I did installed xposed etc. No problems faced.
Or you can wait till kingroot updates it's all up to you
Finally the one click method is here.....

You can go to =- [NUT]'s XDADevelopers downloads -= and download the Executable file for Windows OS that will install a recovery on your rooted phones.
Nut's dual recovery 2.8.21 works perfectly on our devices.. I got it working.. Click THANKS if it helps
Sent from my C6902 using XDA Free mobile app

Try installing NDR Utils from playstore if it is not present in your phone. Try booting to recovery using the app. Don't forget to post your observations..

I have downloaded .368 ROM via XperiFirm, and is there any way to make a pre-root FTF?
Thanks for reading and replying ~
Hi, I somwhere heard an application PRF Creator. I am not familiar with this app but I think it is the base of creating pre-rooted FTF. I have found some tutorial looks pretty simple use for me.
http://techbeasts.com/2015/07/26/how-create-sony-xperia-pre-rooted-firmware-prf-creator/
I am going to try to create an FTF for my Z1 with this and flash on my device and then tell if that worked for me
Edit: Found an thread on XDA about this tool here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/tool-prfcreator-easily-create-pre-t2859904
Download PRFCreator, SuperSU, and XZDualRecovery. Point PRFCreator at the three other files (FTF, SuperSU zip, XZDR zip), click go, go have a cup of coffee. Job's done.
So I tried using this app and it made an .zip file instead of .ftf as i thought it would make. Is there anyway to make a pre-rooted .ftf?
You can make your pre-rooted firmware with that tool mentioned in other replies but if you want root on your device, you'll still need to have root or recovery if you don't have any of those you'll need to unlock yours bootloader(which I didn't want to do for my device because it wipes all data from device(It is possible to do a backup&restore from sony pc companion) in order to flash recovery and your fw.zip.
Or you can hang out a while until kingoroot or any other rooting apps will make root available for 5.1.1 xperia devices without recovery and/or with locked bootloader
Someone correct me if I am wrong at some point.
That is accurate. I have not seen any pre-rooted FTFs. Many people use the misnomer pre-rooted FTF to describe a flashable zip which has been pre-rooted.
We'll i just found out i was wrong about bootloader. You don't need to unlock bootloader instead you can downgrade your firmware check out this tut
http://techbeasts.com/2015/09/18/root-install-recovery-on-xperia-z1-android-511-146a0368-firmware/
Also the prerooted firmware you'll make with PRF Creator will be useful for this method

It seems you didn't red carefully enough.
Most tutorials here already describe that you don't need to unlock your bootloader.
But now you got it.

ANSWER: Click here
Note: The guide is "How to create a pre-rooted 5.0.2 stock ROM" BUT the procedure on how to create a pre-rooted 5.1.1 stock ROM is exactly the same.
'Ello! I wanted to ask, is there a way to root the Xperia Z1 C6903 Lollipop 5.1.1 without having to downgrade it to KitKat? Or is there a way for me to downgrade and then upgrade back to 5.1.1 without loosing the root?
Thanks for the replies in advance.
Tip
Hi. There's a specific root tool for easy rooting called rootkitXperia, you can check here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/root-how-to-root-5-0-lollipop-t3212108
But it supports only 14.5.A.0.270 and 14.3.B.0.310 (*Japanese model) firmwares. Flash one of these firmwares, root with this tool, install XZDualRecovery. then download .368 firmware pre-rooted version. Then flash pre-rooted firmware zip using twrp/cwm, it's your choise. You can choose wipe memory or not to wipe. Up to you.
Hope it helps

You can downgrade to KK 4.4.4, root it, install custom recovery, and use a pre-rooted 5.1.1 firmware to go back to 5.1.1. Or downgrade to LP 5.0.2, root it, install custom recovery, and use a pre-rooted 5.1.1 firmware to go back to 5.1.1
