Hello all,
I've been reading and downloading from xda for over a year now (sgs- darky's rom mainly), and this is my FIRST POST!
I know i can find my answer just by looking but i really wanted to post for the first time so here's my question- My tab is in the post (got it from ebay as i'm a pauper and can't afford it new, or the 8.9 or 10.1) and obviously want to root it straight away. I've seen that some are using z4 root but my sgs won't accept this method, can i be sure it'll work?
take care fellow "tabbers"
PS the doorbell just rang and it's here! *wets pants and logs off*

I need to get gingerbread (at least) on this thing straight away! Or any cool roms you can recommend?
How do i find out if it's GSM or CDMA? i'm in the UK... That is probably a really stupid question, but i'm a stupid guy... A stupid guy who loves android and wants to learn more!
Any links to the right places would be really appreciated
First you're not stupid. You're just new and learning.
Second your tab judging by its firmware is gsm european tab.
Third you can root using superoneclick root.
Fourth. Head to the development section and you will find alot of great roms (or click on my sig if you're interested in overcome). JUST BE SURE TO READ ENTIRE GUIDES AND STUDY THEM BEFORE FLASHING ANYTHING.

So many people get themselves into trouble by not reading instructions or skipping ahead.
Easy to get yourself into trouble, can be VERY hard getting out...
Thank you for all the help, most kind I'm at work now so will try some bits tomorrow, managed to get rooted before leaving tho

Your tab is rooted already. Look at the kernal version. In your apps you will see something called Superuser. Tap it. If its there and opens you are rooted.

That's what really confused me, the kernel said root on it, but no super user was there and none of my purchased root apps could aquire root.... so I used super one click as advised and hey presto! Still confused as to why it said that on my kernel tho...

Just out of interest as i'm un-learned, how can you tell if the bootloader is signed? (As far as I can tell) it hasn't affected the rom installation... could it?

The ROMs between SGS2 and SGS+ are totally different. The numbers can be the same, but it doesn't matter. You can check other Samsung's stock ROMs just to notice they are all quite similar.
Do not in any case try to flash ROM from different phone.

Some potential bug fixes, like camera or so on. Battery life and performance seems a bit better. There's also 2.3.6 (ZSKP6) But includes only few asian languages and English UK and US

Need some help here u guys....
I dont want to open up a new thread for this so i guess it'll fit right in here...
I downloaded ROM Toolbox recently which btw ****ED UP my phone, sonetimes the phone gets stuck now and many apps (also some I've already installed before) cant be downloaded via marked cuz now they are marked as not compatible with my device...
so before i play arround like crazy theres one question :
Is there a ROM out there which is like an enhanced version of the stock rom ? Many roms dont look very good (talking about the appearance), and an enchanced version of the stock rom without all the sync bs of google and stuff would be very cool....
this rom toolbox is such a crappy tool for sgs+....
i really need some help here this phone is starting to piss me off and i only rooted it and never flashed a new rom to the sgs+ (to no other phone neither)..
Can u guys give me some advices here plz ?

Are these all the stock roms available ? im looking for my original Stock rom which was i9001XXK13 which is 2.3.3 Gingerbread, i just need this to fall back on if any problems arise and i need to claim warranty.
Thanks
EDIT:Oops sorry wrong thread
Yesterday I rooted and flashed the "Install Android 4.0.1 ICS Custom ROM on Samsung Galaxy S2" to my
GT I001SGS plus and I am success full.
The only difference in adoption was I copied the 4.0.1 ICS Custom ROM to my external sd card and used the recovery mode
now my S plus is

Firmwire version : 2.3.5
Baseband version: I9001XXKPF

what about those Custom ROMs?
some of them are very interesting to try.
i might even re-partition my SGS, so i can learn how to update, root, and install ROM's myself.
i'm not even sure if my phone already has a MOD in it or if its already rooted, i still don't have it now. but i'll have it this weekend.

Each ROM is customised differently with different features. Basically stay stock if you do not know what features you want.
DO NOT flash a any ROM until you have backed up your EFS folder (google hint = IMEI).
If you ask what is your EFS folder you are not ready for a non stock ROM.
On most proper instructions for flashing a rom, EFS backup step is compulsory.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
If you really need a reason to stay on stock:
1. You need to get used to the phone.
2. You never flashed SGS until now.
3. You have not read anything the other forum colleagues gave you.
4. You did not even tried to search the forums before posting this.
5. You might brick the device and then get back here and complain.
Need more? Sorry, but before posting you, and others that want everything on a plate, should use search and read everything posted here.
The "Galaxy S I9000 General" section clearly says: Discussion about the Samsung Galaxy S I9000 (tips & tricks, etc)
Every custom rom has a "How To" section in the OP. Also, every rom has a "What to do in case of" section. So you can try it on your own. There were cases in which the owner hardbricked the device in the first 45 minutes after he received it. So be careful.
i don't know what EFS even mean.
i'm just lazy to read all of it and there's not much i can understand.
so maybe you're all right that i stay with the stock firmware.
my phone still hasn't arrived, i'll just post here again what firmware it has and how should i update it.
btw, one more thing, so custom ROM's acts like a customized Android firmware, is that right?
and thanks for everyone who replies here and gives me their advices.

Again many this has been covered on many threads relating to flashing ICS ROMS in particular. Flashing can result in the IMEI number being over written Your IMEI is stored encripted in a file contained in the EFS folder (IMEI = unique number that identifies your handset on the mobile networks) and then not being able to make or recieve phone calls in extreme examples to random apps downloading from google play or not able to access google play at all.
For more info on this i strongly suggest that you google "backing up EFS folder" and "backing up IMEI"

but there's a custom ROM that has been leaked that looks like Android 4 (ICS).
will there be a Android 2.4?
i never knew that Android needs a lot of work compared to iOS where it just needs to be jailbreak for you to have the freebies and to be open source.
Iphones run on a common HARDWARE
Android have many different versions of hardware ie Samsung, HTC etc etc etc
Each android phone requires the base code of Android to be customised with device specific drivers etc hence the difference between Android and Iphones.
Your wording is exactly that "CUSTOM" meaning not a Samsung ROM.
As stated before Samsungs stance with the SGS 1 is that they will not release ICS for the handset as there is not enough available RAM (memory) for ICS and their Touchwiz apps
i think i want to install a ROM if i get my Galaxy S by tomorrow.
which one is much better?
CyanogenMOD or DarkyROM?

Hello,
I'm sorry if this question has been asked before, I am not good at this and very nervous of doing something wrong and destroying my mobile... If you could please help me?!
My Galaxy S is:
Frimware version

Baseband version
I9000BWJV2
Kernel version
2.6.35.7-I9000XWJVH-CL184813*[email protected]*#2

The mobile is very very slow and very difficult to use because of this. I have seen that I can root the mobile and upgrade it to Jelly Bean, and hopefully my problems will be resolved...
I am just not sure what kind of programme I should download to root it... also I'm very nervous about in what steps I need to go about to upgrading to Jelly Bean and what I need to download and in what order to do this.
I'm not sure what I download to my laptop's desktop and what I need on my mobile itself...
If you could help me with a step by step guide I would be eternally grateful.
Many Many Thanks
Wishing you all Happy Holidays.

Basically what you're doing is flashing the newest GB firmware for your phone using Odin and then rooting it, also using Odin. After that you have access to " recovery mode", from which you simply choose a zip file with your ICS or JB ROM and flash it.
If your phone is normally working now, I suggest you retry. This process is fairly simple, given you follow all the steps.
Edit: wait, looks like you have a Brazilian i9000.
Since you're using a Brazilian I9000B, disregard what i wrote above, most ROMs aren't compatible, read this

I went to that page to see if I could ask for the right one for my mobile and ended up on a page that say :
Announcement:
For safety reasons Sammobile has stopped ALL Samsung Series firmwares (for example: S-series: S5260, M-series: M610 and E-series: E1230) untill further notice! Plz do NOT post any request or start any thread asking where to find Samsung Series on Sammobile's firmware section!
TIA

If your build number is the same then it should work.

I live in the UK I'm a bit surprised that I have an Brazilian i9000... I can't read Brazilian
Operating system is Google
on that page http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&model=GT-I9000B&pcode=0&os=1&type=1#firmware can I use anyone of those firmwares that has the number 2.3.3?
I was looking at the base version number... that is what I didn't find... sigh
I can download something tonight if I just get the right files to try this again.
If I can flash the mobile with the right firmware,
When I checked About the Mobile this is what it said
Frimware version
2.3.3
Baseband version
I9000BWJV2
Kernel version
2.6.35.7-I9000XWJVH-CL184813*[email protected]*#2
Build nr
Gingerbread.xwjvh
That is all the info I have since I can't get into the phone now...
I can't get into recovery mode only Download.
I don't understand where to go from here... can I somehow go back to my original and then get the correct firmware, ROM etc?
I'm very confused. I bought the mobile on the internet so that might explain it...?
Hello, this is my first time posting on this forum, so hi to everyone.
My question is pretty simple: I have bought a Samsung GT-i9305. I didn't know that it is a branded version (T-Mobile, if anyone knows how to check exactly what version that is, tell me and I'll try to provide necessary information) though. Now there comes my question. Is it possible to remove all of the android rom that is installed on this device and replace it with a fresh, non-branded version? Even stock samsung 4.4 android would be sufficient for my needs. I just need some guidance because I'm afraid I'll brick my phone if i do something wrong and I wouldn't want that. The branded soft annoys me very much, everytime I do an update of the system it installs some useless aplications (they have German names, so my guess would be that this branding is T-Mobile german edition, bought it in Poland though). What's more, I also tried to root the device a few months ago, but to no effect, and now it says that my device has been modified when I try to update it.
I hope this is the right board to ask the question.
I can't give screenshots of the device information because of spam protection for new users. Maybe I can give them to you via PM, if anyone would be interested in helping me.
Thanks in advance to everyone trying to help me.
EDIT: I also tried to install a cyanogen mod on this device and I got the message that this device isn't supported by cyanogen mod.
First make sure of the model of the phone. You should see it in "settings -> about device -> model number"
If you have the i9305, then you could check out this thread by @MaHo_66. It has a nice collection of de-bloated stock 4.4.4 roms.
First you will have to root your phone and install a custom recovery. HERE is a good guide to start, again from @MaHo_66
Make sure you hit his thanks button if you find them helpful.
Yeah, of course it's helpful. Thanks a lot! I liked your post and I'll definitely try the guides you linked.

I can't seem to find such versions in this thread

I wouldn't worry too much about matching build versions, just try a build for your country/region and you shouldn't have any dramas. If you can find a build that uses your provider, you can benefit from the most optimized baseband, but any should work well for your country
