Hard bricked phone - Motorola Droid and Milestone Q&A, Help & Troublesh

I have a Motorola Droid mini 1030. Is there any way to unbrick a hard brick? I can't get into to power on at all.

yo im still a noob at this and i unhard-bricked( yea say that five times. )my soloras.samething no power but my battery got warm. So some button magic ( find what configuration will allow to skip to ya boot recovery screen on your phone. yes you need a platform or lap top for this that can run rsd lite 5 and up i think you miget away with 1.7 but why when there's 6.4 right. use that to flash a rom within your STOCK running specs with a quick boot extension to your sd card. then you should be able to flash all that from your card to your boot loader and get back on your grind.

Captivate dead? Boot to blank black screen

Need some help trying to figure out how to make my Captivate turn on...I press power and get the AT&T slash screen and then the galaxy s logo loads for about 3 minutes and goes to blank dark screen with the capacitive buttons lit. this is not good because my **** won't boot into recovery either
You should flash to stock then...pull battery, hold volume buttons and plug in usb with odin loaded and ready on the computer. There's plenty of threads to help you out
Sent from my phone so excuse the spelling errors
Funnily enough... My phone just did that too. I was installing Mort Widget and it just totally bricked...
I'm rather p!ssed at this...
Course this was after it deleted all my email accounts and SMS.
What you'll need.
Odin (search or look in any of the ROM/Firmware threads, for example the i9000 ROM or unofficial JH2 or JH3 ROM)
Your USB cable.
The firmware files.
Steps:
Remove battery, SIM card and micro SD card.
Open Odin on the computer.
Put the battery back in.
Plug in the USB cable to the phone.
Hold both volume up and down.
With VOL up/down held in, plug usb cable to the computer.
Your phone will show the beloved DOWNLOADING yellow image.
Odin:
Simply select the rom/firmware you want to flash to and enjoy.
I can confirm this will not overwrite the phone's internal 16gb storage, which is where most apps save backups to.
Future steps:
Before trying anything crazy, copy the entire phone internal 16gb storage to your computer. If you brick, you can always get a new captivate, copy the junk back and run a restore.
I recommend Titanium backup (donate the $6, the backup/restore is SUPER SUPER fast) along with Clockwork recovery. Clockwork's Nandroid makes full kernel backups and you can boot to recovery from the phone itself. No more adb reboot download or adb reboot recovery.
sorry for my english i have a 19000m the one from bell my phone boot with the GALAXY S LOGO WITH THE MUSIC BUT AFTER THAT BLACK SCREEN CAN I REPAIR THAT ?
Yes, odin is about your only hope here... Even if you boot into the bios and try to do a factory reset it will come up with error after error...
Reflashing will totally wipe and start fresh.
I am curious however. I think i isolated where my problem came from but I am still curious...
Did you try to sideload anything?
It happened to me twice with Bell's Vibrant version. The first time, just after one week after getting it (not rooted). They simply gave me a brand new one.
The second one took 3 week to go dead. Knowing my way around Linux Embedded systems, this time I investigated the issue. In recovery mode, there were error messages saying that the system could not fine the internal flash memory partitions. I could confirm from the kernel messages that partitions on internal sdcard had disappeared. I did factory reset, reflash original stock firmware with Odin, but it did nothing.
I Sent the phone back for repair and three weeks later, they gave me another one (probably refurbished!!).
My phone just turns on, with a black screen and the capacitive buttons lit up. Nothing else happens. When I try to go into download mode, it only goes back to this black screen. I does however detect that the phone is connected driver wise on the computer, but does not show up in Hemidall or Odin. I've tried just about everything
i used ODIN to resotore the phont to stock

Does it light up or display anything and then go black, or does it just do nothing? If it does nothing, you're probably bricked, but try this anyway just in case your phone still has some life in it:
open Odin; press and hold both volume buttons and plug in your USB. If Odin lights up yellow, flash.
If that doesn't work, buy or build a jig, use it, and see if it goes into download mode. If it doesn't, plug the cable in anyway and see if Odin recognizes it. If it does, flash.
If that doesn't work, you're probably bricked. JTAG or Unbrickable Mod are your options from here, neither of which I personally know anything about but you can search around and find someone who can help you.
Hard Bricked= No signs of life, black screen no matter what, no response to USB plug in. Nothing but Unbrickable mod or JTAG will fix, I WOULD SUGGEST getting Unbrickable because you only have to get it once, and it cost the same as JTAG.
Soft Bricked= DL mode access is available(by jig or button combo and usb), recovery too, has some life in it. Can use ODIN/HEIMDALL to fix it.
when the flashing finsh and say done...and show the green light in the ODIN. the phone did not start up
dose this mean it break or dead charger?
as m not shure if the battery is full or not.
anyway i can pass the battery by over it with cuted USB cable?

If you got a green light, I would think it should at least turn on. However, if it was a successful flash, it should charge with the phone off. A bricked phone and a bad charger would both look the same: dead.
Try a different charger or battery if you think your battery could that dead. However if your battery died during your flash, that could also be the cause of your brick.
i charge the battery...and nothing happend
will the USB JAG solve it?
as i read in some post this will not
i need to send to some one to do it by opeing the phont it self

A jig is worth trying, but I suspect it will not solve your issue. You are correct, you need to send it to someone to have it fixed. Send a PM to AdamOutler or Connexion2005 and they can point you in the right direction.

You moto defy never flashed boot loaders since Motorola always had them locked down, and if you didn't know what you were doing flashing the stock Emma's that had boot loaders then it is not the phones fault. You should never really have to flash boot loaders and that is the ONLY risky part in flashing on these phones. Other than that Samsung cappys are almost TRUELY unbrickable (HARD BRICK) unless you mess up flashing boot loaders. WHICH YOU DID WHETHER YOU KNEW IT OR NOT BY FLASHING THE STOCK ODIN. SEND IT FOR UNBRICKABLE MOD, it is cheap repair and you WONT run into your same mistake ever again.

[Q] weird problem with my milestone trying to root, booted like crazy

Greetings everyone!
I'm trying to root my Motorola Milestone, the current OS aparently is 2.1 and the carrier is movilnet from venezuela, and I tried to root it so I could have Wifi tethering.
I practically got stucked trying to root it, and in one of the firts steps (loading the ADBrecovery on to the SD card). when I loaded the files to the phone, I tried to load the exclamation point pressing holding camera and on button, it didn't open the exclamation point, so I tried it like 5 times trying to load it. since i couldn't, read some more, and saw that I had to press X and On button, and it worked. when I tried to load the file, it told me that it failed.. since it failed, I pressed the boot the phone and it turned off. then I turned on the phone and it repeatedly started to turn off.
I've got so confused and since the only thing that I changed was adding the files, I deleted them as fast as I could. and well, the phone is stable now. but I'm somewhat scared of damaging my phone.
can someone tell me how to root my phone or tell my why did it go crazy? what could i have done wrong? could a virus in my laptop affect my cellphone? (I somewhat doubt this since the phone works on linux, but, then what could have caused the crazy booting?)
thanks in advanced people
sorry for the shameless bump, but I'd love to get some help so i could finally tether the wifi.
Hi.
To put phone into recovery mode:
Turn phone off.
Press and hold X while pressing power button.
Release power button keeping pressed X.
Use pad to select update.zip.
To put phone into BootLoader mode:
Turn phone off.
Press UP on pad and hold until pressing power button.
Release power button and keep holding UP on pad until You see "Bootloader blah, blah" on screen.
That's about modes.
For problem You have, first of all, You must to find sbf file for Your bootloader version (try google for vulnerable_recovery_only_RAMDLD90_78.sbf ) and flash with rsd lite on windows or proper program for linux. Next, after flash sbf file, find update.zip (google for milestone_root.zip), save to pc and put phone into SD card mode when connecting to usb.
Copy update.zip from PC to / (root) of Your memory card, turn phone off and apply first thing I wrote above for recovery mode, then apply update.zip.
Note that for rooting, depend of Your bootloader version, You must to apply correct version of file. So if You have for example bl 90.78, You must to apply 90.78 sbf and so on.
If You still have problems with rooting, please post back.
PS, don't forget to CHECK BL VERSION!
Cheers
EDIT: DOH... phone is not going crazy. You was probably use wrong files.
Thanks a lot dude, I'll try this as soon as i can, I've been really busy with work lately
No problem.
Cheers

[Q]<< Solved!!>> Milestone stuck in bootloader screen, need help please

Dear all,
try to upgrade my milestone from 2.1 to 2.2 via the upgrade software from moto, the software finished without any error, but my milestone can load the system anymore, it stuck in the bootloader screen,
bootloader 90.73 battery ok, ok to program
it can detect the usb cable if I insert the usb cable, can I restore my milestone?
first do factory reset, cross fingers, and reboot
Crossing fingers is most important.
That actually happened to me when flashing telus froyo 2.2 update.
It flashed fine but stuck on M logo so did reset by doing left shift+alt+delete, held down X and factory reset option from recovery menu.
You may have to hold down camera instead of X
thanks for quick reply. Sorry, I never did rooting or flash rom, I don't know what is cross fingers, I trid factory reset by holding down the power button and camera button, but I still stuck in the bootloader screen.
Would you please point me to some useful tutorial, howto?
You can try to flash an sbf since you can get the bootloader.
First take the battery out.
then download rsdlite 4.6+
download motorola drivers
install them.
download a froyo sbf file from here---> //and-developers.com/sbf:milestone221 (put "http:" in front of the url)
put the battery in and go to the bootloder mode (in my phone bootloader 90.78 i need to hold the UP key on d-pad and the power botton together)
plug the phone to your computer.
turn on RSDlite and wait for it to show your phone as connected.
select "..." button and pick the sbf file you downloaded.
hit start and wait for it to say "pass" or something like that. DO NOT interrupt RSDlite once you have hit start.
Dear all, My bootloader version is 90.73, and I have some err code, but I'm manage to connect my phone with RSD lite, I read some forum mentioned bootloader version 90.78, would it be any different if I upgrade bootloader to 90.78, and how can I upgrade it by RSD?
I saw some forum talked about recovery mode, but I can't get into recovery mode by pressing camera and power button at the same time.

in this state if you start the flashing with RSDlite does it flash?
the problem was solved after flash the bootloader to version 90.78, thanks everyone for reading and reply!!!
Boot loops can happen to anyone. It is always a good idea to have openrecovery working incase you need to restore your MM.

Hello, may be anyone still have bootloader 90.78 for Droid A855?
I spend whole day searching it but all links dead.
Thanks
I guess your best chance is this site: http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=26
Erovia, Thanks friend! I really appreciate!:good::good::good:
I tried flash 2C7C.sbf bootloader file , flashed well but no success - bootloop on "M" logo.
9078 bootloader didn't want to flash (phone showed error), I think because this bootloader not for CDMA version (file name BL_9078_umts_sholes_HS_Consumer_replacer.sbf). Also I found the same file on German wiki server for their phones.
After multiple attempt to flash whole ROM like "VZW_A855_FRG83G_QSC6085BP_C_01.43.01P_SW_UPDATE.sbf" and FRG83D I started to think that probable phone has died NAND flash and better disassemble it for parts. RSD showed info from this phone
AP Die ID: 0390010d177d0304000000000400
BP Die ID: 0000000000000000000000000000
AP Public ID: ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff
BP Public ID: 0000000000000000000000000000000000000000
As far as I know ID there should be something but not ffffffffffffffffffff or 00000000000000.
I gave this phone last chance and flashed "MILER_X1_00.26.1_MILER_CDMA_BP_01.07.00R_GEN_1FF_sign.sbf" and miracle happens! In a few reboots it passed M logo and completely turned On. I guess it's not original Verizon firmware, on settings it says model A854 .
Now my question is can it be activated on Verizon? (I don't know will RPL Version (11111) work for them) Or I need to flash original A855 ROM ? Or left it as is and don't torture it more?..
I'd really like to help you, but I don't no much about the Droid, because I have a Milestone.
If I were you, I would torture it a bit more. It booted up, so the hardware is functional. With a little luck, it can be saved.
It was almost two months ago but whatever..
After multiple attempts to flash A855 rom I decided left it on A854 rom (MILER_X1_00.26.1_MILER_CDMA_BP_01.07.00R_GEN_1FF_sign)
All ROMs for A855 which I tried to flash
VZW_A855_FRG83D_QSC6085BP_C_01.43.01P_SW_UPDATE
VZW_A855_FRG83G_QSC6085BP_C_01.43.01P_SW_UPDATE_02
VZW_A855_FRK76_QSC6085BP_C_01.43.01P_SW_UPDATE_01
made phone non bootable.
A854 rom worked fine, only thing customer called after two day using it and said camera doesn't work. But as I never saw him again I have know idea is there was camera problem or it just doesn't work on A584 rom.

build.prop mistake

Hey all My friend gave me his Droid Bionic running ICS update and he said he was trying to get it to work with att BUT while in the process he tried to put in a different build.prop but he deleted the one out of his system folder. The phone boots on a black screen and will not connect to the pc he said he also tried doing the recovery thing to it,
So. No build.prop
Black screen boot.
And no way to mount.
Any ideas?

If the data on this phone is no longer needed, you could alway flash a stock JB 4.1.2 using RSD.
That'll surely fix all the problem except data loss.

You didn't state that you did this. So, I'll start with the obvious.
1. Fully charge and then power off the phone.
2. Press & hold the volume + and volume -.
3. Power on the phone.
4. Once the boot menu comes up, use volume - to move to AP Fastboot & select wit volume +.
5. Plug in the phone to your PC and run RSD Lite. Click Config>Flash modes>Fastboot Mode.
6. Flash the phone with ICS or JB.
If you choose BP SBF Flash, on the menu, RSD may not work right. If you try to downgrade it, you can brick it.
Let me know how it goes.

I would definitely not recommend flashing JB. Stay with ICS.
Once you go to JB you are locked down with lots of restrictions.
If you stay with ICS you can root easier, and you have more choices of custom roms that you can use.
If you go JB, you can only use JB custom roms.
You can use either safestrap or bootstrap if you stay with ICS. If you do JB, you are stuck with safestrap.
Stay with ICS! If you want JB, only use custom JB roms, don't flash them through RSD.

RSDLite does noto see the phone at all. Making it impossible to flash. I have tried 6 different cords including the one that came with the phone. And if you read one of my earlier posts you will see where I said rsd isn't working. I cant seem to figure out how to get it to work either. Ive done the drivers several times along with new cords..

Do you see a device in Windows Device Manager? Can you get to the menu I talked about on the phone. RSD won't see the phone if Windows doesn't load the drives correctly. Do you have the Android SDK loaded? That can help w/ manual flashing... and drivers. It's important to get the phone in the AP Fastboot mode to get the proper connectivity.

[Q] Captivate ROM Error

Ok, so I hard bricked my Captivate, used the Radioshack homemade jig to force it into download mode, and flashed Gingerbread 2.3.6 XXJVU. After further research, I realized I wanted to downgrade to 2.3 for a more effective custom ROM flash, so I flashed a stock Eclair 2.1 ROM using Odin one click (with bootloaders, I'm assuming). The flash was successful as far as Odin was concerned, but now the phone gets stuck in a boot loop for quite some time. If I let the loop run its course, it will eventually load the 2.1 ROM, but the phone will power off after about 5 seconds after I plug either a USB cable OR a charger (the charger is recognized as a USB cord by the phone). I cannot get the phone into recovery or download mode; the 10 plus button combinations do not work, and the jig sends it into the boot loop. I even tried holding the volume down key through the entire boot loop sequence, but it never stops (as opposed to not holding the volume down key, where it boots eventually). I tried reformatting the internal SD card, and I looked into putting it into download mode through ADB, but I do not have it installed and even if I did, I can't get the phone to stay on while connected via USB. The computer even recognizes it through USB until the phone shuts off. Through much research, I've come to the conclusion that I must re-brick my phone somehow from within the stock ROM I have installed. I have no idea if this is even possible or if it's the right solution, but I'm at the end of the line at this point. Any suggestions to help with this?

No such thing as "more effective custom ROM flash". All you need is stock GB with GB bootloaders.
You need to get to Download mode and flash stock GB. Tons of information in this forum, please read it.
I've been browsing these forums for days for information on this subject, and none of the solutions I've found fix my problem.
And where exactly did you read you need to downgrade 2.3.x to 2.1 in order to flash a custom ROM?
Calm down, turn the phone off and leave it on a charger for few hours in order to recharge the battery. Disconnect the charger, remove the battery, remove SIM and SD. Reinstall battery only, hold both volume keys and plug the phone to the PC. See Download mode now?
I didn't read that I needed to downgrade, but the guides I was reading were one click solutions for root and flash for 2.3, and I guess should've ignored them and done it manually. I did a one click on a #1110 phone, which is why it's now acting lame, I assume.
Ha, I am pretty calm. I have a Verizon Galaxy S that I've been using to charge the battery, since my AT&T Captivate won't even charge the battery via USB or straight charger when it's off, so it's pretty full. I've tried every method, including the one you just mentioned, and none of them work to bring me to download mode.

Have ya tried to make a Jig ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9238587&postcount=1
The jig I used to get it from fully bricked state into download mode would put it back into the boot loop. I solved my problem with the adb reboot download command. I managed to activate the command before the phone randomly shut off, as it does when I insert the USB cable. Thanks everyone!
