contacts showing up as "unknown" in the dialer - Moto X Q&A

Moto X, Andriod 5.1, pure stock, bought in Germany, used in Russia.
I've got a constant problem with caller's ID showing up as "unknown" in the dialer history.
This behaviour is sporadic. I could not trace back any reason why a caller from my contact list would appear as "unknown" in the call log.
Sometimes when i get an incoming call from an unknown number it dos get listed explicitly in the incoming call history and i can call back (the number itself gets registered in the incoming call log) but half of the time i get an unanswered call as "unknown", so i can't even define who's been calling me.
The same applies to in/out calls from/to my contact list. I get "unknown" numbers in the log that i can not redial or keep the history of.
I tried an alternative dialer (Dialer One from Google Play which i had as a default in my previous Motorola Defy+) with no success.
Most of my contacts are saved in Cyrillic but i never had any problems with my Motorola Defy + which was also bought in Germany.
And the error seems to be random anyway. Sometimes i get the contact or the phone number listed in the log, but most of the time i get "unknown" source.
Any clues or suggestions on solving this problems? Thanks in advance!
I'm a newbie here so i can not post any screenshots, sorry for the pure text.

[Q] Fake Incoming Caller ID

Hi,
Is there any application which fakes incoming caller ID ? I assign some fake number to an incoming number and the fake number is displayed when he or she calls.
The same with SMS too.

just use SmartPhone PhoneyCall to fix it
I'm not looking for a fake call generator.
I'm looking for something which can replace/modify and display different incoming number.

okay , if so try SMSDRFixWM
- Improved phone number searching algorithm
- Improved contact looking up
- Added replacing number in text messages
- Improved Delivery notification design
- Simplified settings
- Deleting moves messages to delete folder
- Fixed setting delivery time
I'm sorry to say that even thats not what I have been looking for. I never mentioned anything about delivery reports. The app you suggested is for delivery reports. It replaces the number and displays contact in a delivery report.
MagicCall is something which suites my need. I tried it, pretty much enough for the calls. Except for Incoming calls it can't replace original number if you want to answer the call.
And for SMS I'm still looking. May be something like which can encrypt.

this application to protect your private and sensitive infomation such as contacts, call history, tasks and SMS
-Call Magic: Answer incoming calls to your phone automatically and/or listen to what is happening around your phone. This ground breaking technology is the only one of a kind solution in the mobile industry!. This solution is software based and does not require any hardware tweaking.
-Call Magic will enable you to answer incoming calls from a pre-defined number at zero ring, i.e. the phone will answer the call automatically without a ring! Every time you call your phone from the pre-defined number, the phone will answer the call without a single ring! After the call is picked up then you can hear what is happening in the surrounding of the phone.
-After Installation Call Magic allows your phone to have three answer modes -- Reject All, Hands-free and Answer One.
-In Answer One Mode you can set a pre-defined number and select the number of rings after which the phone should auto-answer. No further user interaction is required. If you selected, zero rings then next time a call is made to your phone from the pre-defined number, your phone will automatically answer it. No rings, it simply answers! Magic!
-In Hands free Mode the user can select the number of rings after which ALL incoming calls will be automatically answered.
-Reject All Mode will reject ALL incoming calls and send a busy signal to the caller. The caller and you will not be charged for the call. Our software makes the Network Provider send a busy signal to the calling party.
-Call Magic does not require constant activation after the phone is switched on. Call Magic is a Pure Software Solution and starts up automatically when the phone is switched on.
-WARNING! Using surveillance devices, intercepting and/or recording audio conversations, without the consent of all the parties involved might be illegal in your country. Check local laws before using Magic Call.

[Q] AOSP GBMod Call Lost w/G-Voice and Voice Search

I recently switched to AOSP GBMod and have noticed something odd. When I'm using Google Voice and I select to call someone who has left a message who is not a contact of mine the call states "call lost" and doesn't go through. I believe that it's from the +1 added prior to the number that is causing this, because when I put the number in without the +1 the call goes through. Any ideas why this is? The same happens when I Google Voice Search a number a +1 is added to the number and the call doesn't go through, i.e. the number shows up as +1-920-933-5944. When I put 920-933-5944 the call goes through. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Bad incoming text numbers (Can't reply)

This issue has only been happening recently, but I don't know what to make of it. All of my contacts are stored as 10-digit phone numbers on my phone (area code+7-digit phone number). I don't have any SIM contacts or Google contacts. For some reason, while I can text everyone just fine using the stored numbers, *sometimes* replies come from completely malformed numbers. For example, if I send a text to 123-123-1234, I'll get a reply from 123-312-31234. All my replies will come from the number with the random extra digit mixed in, but I can only send messages to the original 10-digit number for them to actually be sent. This has never happened to me with calls so far, just texts. What could be causing this?

[Q] Contact info unavailable during incoming or outgoing calls!

Hi everyone,
I recently rooted my moto x XT1052 and flashed the latest cm12 nightly. Followed all the steps and the device is working just fine except one major problem. Every time I receive or make a phone call (even from/to those numbers which are already stored in my address book) there is no caller name and photo and only the phone number is displayed. Also there are no contact names in the recent call history and only phone numbers. I'm not able to identify who is trying to call me as I have more than 1500 contacts on my phone. The same problem is present in the messaging app. I'm able to receive and send messages but have no sender/receiver name.
Any help will be highly appreciated.
I have the same issue. Have not solved it.

S10 incoming calls adds country code, so contact name not recognised

I have noticed this issue, when I receive a call from one of my contacts, it adds a country code to the number ringing me and their name doesn't come up.
The only way I have found to fix this is to delete the +44 at the start of the number and just put a 0 instead. I would have to do this to all my contacts which would take too long.
Any ideas?
