Bought a phone that was suppose to be a nexus 6. i didnt realize that it was a little different until about 15 minutes after i bought it. its the same size / looks like a nexus 6 minus the nexus logo on the back. Under the model number it states moto maxx, and the software(android 4.4.4) looks like moto software with bootup images, twist to camera etc. It doesnt have any google apps or the google play store loaded onto it. Any idea of what phone this maybe?I will have to post pictures in a few minutes.
Pictures are below.

Looks like a clone to me. I'd try to get your money back if possible.
Looks like this is what you got instead of a Nexus 6. http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_moto_maxx-6779.php
The Moto Maxx is a legit phone, just not sold in North America. I know Asia, Central & South America for sure.
It doesn't t look like the moto maxx pictured above. It look exactly like a nexus 6 without the logo.(same size and shape)I've been searching and seen somthing about a moto x pro that is similar to the nexus 6 but without Google apps and made for china. The problem is that phone comes with android 5.0 stock and this has android 4.4.4 and says moto maxx. I was given the run around about getting my money back so that's a no go.
its a moto x pro. its an exact duplicate of the nexus 6 on the outside, with a few internal difference. its officially motorola, and only sold in china(or asia).

Except Moto X PRo shipped with lollipop.
Also, it says moto maxx in the settings and also "Shamu_china" in the kernel.
Maybe it was one of those early development versions we see sometimes, but of the Moto X Pro?

its possible it had a version of 4.4 before release, for in house testing. we always see a device or two get out that had earlier versions on it. i know the n6 had 4.4 on it during in house testing, so its possible.
Definitely a X Pro. I'm sure there's a developer around here somewhere (working on trying to get Moto Apps working on the Nexus 6) that would love to get their hands on that.
I posted it on swappa (boneyard) if developer is Interested in it.

Hey guys, now that Motorola is back after google's purchase, after a year without launching anything, will our phone be updated to 4.2 and further? Are all the last razrs (d1, d3, hd, normal, etc) promised with a new update?
On brazillian Motorola website, when we reach on Razr D1/D3 product page, that´s one of the advantages that Motorola shows:
UPGRADE TO THE NEXT VERSION OF ANDROID GUARANTEED
MOTOROLA RAZR D3 comes with Jelly Bean version, and is ready for the next version of Android.

But we don´t see this on Razr i and HD pages. But I think it´s pretty hard that Motorola updates D1 and D3, but not i and HD...

Yeah, i mean, razr i's got better specs than those 2, it should have absolutely no problem running 4.2, and they're both "motorola edition"... But that's what drew my attention, we don't have the upgrade granted thingy

Could be, hope it is. We'll just have to wait more Motorola news, but google isn't the ones that unsupport their products so fast
I preordered the Moto X the day it was available. I got mine this past Monday. Anyway to get to the point; the rear facing camera will not focus on anything any further than about 10 inches away. Is any one else having this issue? I also am having issues with the front facing camera lagging horribly regardless of lighting conditions. If I can't get this resolved I'll do a swap out with the local AT&T shop, or go back to my old Moto X (2013).
The Lagging is a known issue. The 2013 also has issues focusing on things closer than 5-7 inches or so away.
I'm not having those issues with my Pure edition. The front facing camera seems normal to any smart phone I've ever used. Are you using the drag and slide focus in the stock app? I'd try the google camera from the play store to see if that helps any. I was able to use the stock moto camera app to focus in on a car about 20 ft. away with no problem.

I think you misunderstood. My camera will only focus on things that are less than 10 inches away. I essentially can't take a picture of anything unless I'm close to it.
That's the opposite of anything I've seen. That's odd.
Here's an example. Also, even while in video mode it won't focus. This happens regardless of which camera app I use.

Are you still having camera issues with your Moto x 2nd gen. Cause I got mine 2 days ago and it is doing the same thing. I've tried born he Google camera and the Moto camera. Same issues. Can't focus on anything further than 10inchs.
Try the google camera, just for ****s and giggles. I wonder if its a hardware thing or an app thing
If u guys are rooted theres a modded Moto X camera floating around these forums. It has advanced features. Try to find it and check it out. Im not rooted since I have the VZW version or else I would be using it.
I've tried both the Google and Moto camera. They both do the same thing. I'm pretty sure it's a hardware thing. I just don't want to return my phone and get another one with the same problem.
Thanks for the input guys.
Hey guy, so I went back to be at but to get return my phone. Found out some interesting things about the one I had.
First thing was that the camera was defective that was a given.
Second thing was the reason it was defective was cause the Moto M symbol on the back was loose I found out that was what caused the issue.
So if your camera is not focusing on anything further than 5" away and your Moto symbol is loose. I would suggest that you return it for a new Moto x. My new one works great it has none of those above issues and I'm even happier the phone now than I was before. It's so fast and very very smooth. Thanks again for your time guys.
This phone has awesome specs, 5.2 inches is a more reasonable screen size than 6 inches (for me), and the outright price is $100 less than the Nexus 6.
It has everything going for it except it will contain all the VZW bloatware and will of course be locked down like crazy. Because it is a Verizon exclusive, the devs will be limited by ¾ (no Sprint, T-Mobile, or ATT devs) and that leaves me to question is the phone worth the lack of development that Verizon exclusivity creates? By comparison the Nexus 6 is one model for all carriers and is practically guaranteed to have a huge developer community.
If you have your mind set on either the Droid Turbo or the Nexus 6, what are your reasons for selecting that particular phone in regards to your speculations of the future developer communities among all the other reasons?
Maybe? Anyone who tells you a definite answer is simply guessing. You can go check out the other "droid" forums here on Xda to see if they were affected.
Myself I couldn't care less about rooting or flashing ROMs, I'm getting the phone since it's a damn beast of a device

It all depends. I had the DROID DNA which was also a Verizon exclusive and wasn't promoted too much. It had great dev support within a few months. I've had an unlocked bootloader and root for awhile. Then again, it was an HTC device.
What for do you need the developers for this beast phone anyways...

i can tell from experience last year droid maxx, the software was so fast and cool that i never missed any custom rom, because you would lose active notificacions and ok google now function, i even debloated the stock droid maxx rom and released it for dev devices and it was even faster, i can live with stock rom, but root its necessary, so as long we get root for this one im cool.
All I know is people are pist this phone came out after they upgraded. This is the first time i get a phone beyond my expectations.

In general a Nexus is easy to unlock and develop for and a Verizon branded phone is difficult to. That's not to say the Turbo won't have development or get unlocked though. It's definitely possible but more difficult. I bet there will be some big developers for this device so we'll see. IMO if you can deal with a huge phablet then definitely go with a Nexus over this. I personally just can't walk around with that big of a device.
The galaxy nexus (vzw only model) had insane dev support. I don't think the exclusivity will be the issue as much as the difficulty to unlock it.
Well it seems Verizon has gotten 5.01 already on its Moto X. And here we have the pure edition which is supposed to be the fastest version of the phone to get updates and yet still not 5.01. With 5.0 Verizon got it like 2 weeks before the pure edition. Looks like this update will be the same. So my question is why would anyone pay $500 for the pure edition if it gets updates later than the carriers branded version? What is the point of PURE EDITION.
I'm on VZW and I haven't got the 5.0.1 update. Where did u get ur info from?
Who on Verizon has 5.01?

you can unlock the bootloader of pure edition without voiding the warranty whereas you can't even unlock the bootloader of Verizon version

Pure edition was one of the first devices to have 5.0. They probably won't release 5.01 because the bug fixes don't really pertain to us

Hope that's not the case. There are a few bugs in moto's software I'd love to see fixed. Dunno if that will require a 501, but if so I hope it's soon.
hi guys,i have a question about my phone moto g(2014) is a very nice phone i like this size and i like the stock android and finally i like the dual sound speakers, but the biggest epic fail from motorola is to put on this phone with HD 5'' display a battery only 2070mah.

to say the true??? i w8 any video of moto G2015 to see if the battery have the same size and same connection spot, and if it is the same i will order one and i will test it
yes hehe
I was to buy the new 2015 version and asked about the battery, I was told by Motorola Support that I couldn't use the new battery on the 2014 model, anyone tried?
I doubt that they changed all the internal design just for the lte
Don't always trust salesmen
I'm 99.9% sure it won't fit just because it's a different device also bigger capacity then expect bigger size
I have a Moto G xt1072. If someone tells how to get the capacity of the battery. I will try
You can see the instructions to take the battery apart on this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmKg2DcfPfk
If someone confirm that the battery size is similar and that the plug is the same next step is to find where to buy that battery.
I'm searching where to buy the battery because i would try it on a xt 1068
EDIT:
i have found the information that the new battery is the same of Moto E LTE
https://osnovospinguins.wordpress.com/tag/motorola/
can sombody confirm if i buy a moto g 2015 battery can be replaced to a moto g 2014 ?

officially they will suggest accessories if specifically they're available for any model, but to be honest you can use any battery of the same size.
Why do you wanna have a bigger battery? For me these 8hrs of SOT are enough [emoji14]

i have both phones and the lte version i have is hard bricked, the battery is the same size same connector at the same spot, it shouldnt make a difference, and im also willing to try it out but i dont want to ruin my phone.. so if you need any more info on both devices, you can ask me, but i first need to check the 2 devices' charging circuit..
