Rooting 5.1.1 on N910G - rather easy! - Galaxy Note 4 General

If you decide to download the AU ROM for N910G (which works great for other regions), you can easily root it by flashing the permissive kernel for the N910F.
AU ROM thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/general/sm-n910g-lollipop-5-1-1-released-t3215823
N910F kernel thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/snapdragon-dev/kernel-5-1-1-selinux-enforcing-t3190799
So in short:
Download the ROM and flash via Odin.
Download the latest TWRP and flash via Odin. It will also install SuperSU.
Flash the kernel via TWRP (ensure you copy it to your external SD in advance).
That's all! You end up with a rooted N910G that is smooth and a far cry from the laggy monster that was 5.0.1!

Worked great! Thanks!!

Works perfect on 910G thanks.

Is it true that after flashing TWRP, when the phone switches off & on, quickly press 'buttons' for recovery and flash the new 2.49 SuperSU app.zip instead of letting TWRP install it as TWRP installs an old superSU & is outdated... ??

I presume this still trips knox?

Those who have warranty and don't want to trip knox, I don't think there is any root method available. All root methods trip knox and hence warranty issue, for those who don't have warranty they can forget knox.

Warranty doesn't concern me, I use the phone for work and tripping Knox would stop the phone working on the work network.
But it sounds like this will trip it, so yeah I'm not going to.
Thanks though.

Link no work.

Root N910G
Hey,
I've searched everywhere, most of us aren't able to root since the link for the kernel is not working. Is there any other way to get root on N910G? :fingers-crossed:

Odin

I was running stock rooted Lollipop ....Wanted to try out a new rom so when I tried to reboot to TWRP nothing happened...So I decided to just reflash TWRP via Odin and it failed...tried to reflash cf auto root via Odin and failed. I was able to flash the NK4 firmware via Odin. And same fail message came up for Cf Auto Root and TWRP...Went to check recovery and I'm back to stock. Tried doing a factory reset in stock recovery and failed...preload destination does not exist! Fudge bananas! So I flashed the firmware (OC6). It's working fine but I can not use Cf Auto root nor flash TWRP via Odin....Any ideas what's going on?

Perhaps you don't have the latest versions of cf-autroot. odin and twrp recovery.
The latest versions are twrp v2.8.6.0, odin v3.10.0 and cf-autoroot.
Both twrp and cf-autoroot are specifically for the N910T Tmobile Note 4.
Here is a direct download link to the latest versions:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/i25yjb1o97o96nb/CF-Autoroot & TWRP v2.8.6.0 and ODIN3 v3.10.0.zip?dl=0
p.s. Be sure to use the original Note 4 charging cable.
Good luck!

I'm using the same files as I did Monday when I initially went to Lollipop on Monday. I was on stock rooted Lollipop.
I can flash firmwares without errors, it's cf auto root and twrp that fail.

I just looked at your two screen shots and noticed that your activation
lock is ON, so go into settings>security and turn it OFF.
Then power off the phone and go into download
mode and start odin flashing cf-autoroot and twrp.
Good luck!
Your lock ? is defintley your issue. I still using twrp 2.8.4 with no issues and odin 3.9.

After odin flashing the lollipop update you need to root with
cf-autoroot and then odin flash twrp 2.8.6.0 custom recovery.
However you don't need to odin flash cf-autoroot if you want
to flash one of the many lollipop custom zip file roms so only
odin flash twrp recovery, it's required for flashing zip file roms.
All the stock and custom lollipop zip file roms are pre-rooted.
Good luck!
Thanks!

Yeah, cause if you root on 4.4.4...after you take the OTA...you lose root...so, might as well take the update first then root. If you are going to be using a custom ROM, you can just skip the root part and just go straight into getting a custom recovery...then just flash a custome ROM, which will of course already be rooted.

I'm going to try PopRocks.. can you expand on the 2. Odin Flash Auto Root ? I want to make sure I don't mess up.
1. Odin Flash Cod6 Stock Rom Base
TMO Cod6 Base Mirror: thanks DuckSauce

2. Odin Flash Auto Root
3. Odin Flash Twrp 2.8.1.1 (link below)

Yeah, that just means to use Odin to flash the Auto Root file (it roots the COD6 Stock ROM from step 1). It's the same process as flashing the COD6 file. Check out the first Stickied Post in the General section....by @TEKHD. A very easy to follow guide with links to all the files you need.

Quick question for "No knox root on 5.1.1"

I've tried to follow this guide: How to Unlock/Root Your Galaxy SM-G920T 5.1.1 without Tripping the Knox
But my phone has the build number G920TUVS3DOJC and it doesn't work when flashing through ODIN, is it because the guide is only for older build? Im hoping other OJC users could answer this.
Thank you

Here's what you do.. to root
First method is Custom recovery and root
Download Unikernel v8 zip from your phone it will be in your phone download memory.
Then Open Odin on a pc find tmobile s6 twrp recovery in Google search as a .tar format
Flash that in Odin
Then once you have Twrp recovery find the Unikernel inside download folder and flash it with twrp
YOUR ROOTED .
If you do not want a custome recovery and just root only Flash the unikernel v8 as a .tar format file With Odin.

I'm not sure about the Nor trip Knox method
This method is fast It will trip Knox but who cares likely you own the Phone or take care of it well.
And plan to use carrier insurance if ever need be
Tripping Knox isn't a big deal Unless you ever need to send to Samsung. Most people Insurance claim and Knox is never a issue cause they send these out to be refurbs.

It won't boot Because you are still on dok2 lollipop bootloader.
You need to update your bootloader and modem to marshmallow first.
Link below for marshmallow bootloader and modem.flash through odin.
Choose ( BL) in odin for flash bootloader.
Choose ( CP) in odin for modem.
Bootloader
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=529152257862691089
Modem
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=673368273298919303
If still doesn't boot try to flash rom again with any custom kernel in twrp because the rom you are trying to flash is n910t3 rom not n910t.
I recommend you beastmode r56.8 kernel.
