Hi
Can someone who have used both S2 9.7 vs S 10.5 and had some chance to compare them side by side comment on the screen quality? I'm interested because I have the S 10.5.
Aside from the obvious aspect ratio and minor size difference, how are the displays. Text sharpness, clarity, color saturation, contrast, etc.
I saw one amoled phone (don't remember the model) and what I liked about it was the display image seemed to float right at that surface of the screen. I think it's because the gap between the top glass and display is very thin. I don't get the same feel with the Tab S, i.e. it feels more like the display image is below the glass, if that makes sense. What about the S2?
I hear the S2 uses pentile attachment as opposed to RGB. I know this is controversial and some say it does not matter, but if it does not affect quality then why don't Samsung and everybody use it in everything from phones to high end TVs since it's cheaper and less power hungry.
Thanks

Has anyone seen those youtube videos of a Samsung device with Super Clear LCD (not a i9023 Nexus S or a s8530 Wave II, the only devices known with Super Clear LCD)?
See for yourselves:
Samsung Galaxy S (Super Clear LCD) - Review
Samsung Galaxy S (Super Clear LCD) - Flash in browser
Samsung Galaxy S (Super Clear LCD) - Another review
Samsung Galaxy S (Super Clear LCD) - HD video recording
Super Clear LCD vs Retina - Viewing angle
Super Clear LCD vs Retina - Outdoor
All the videos say that it is the Samsung Galaxy S with Super Clear LCD. The Wave II is, at the moment, the only device with Super Clear LCD. The Nexus S will soon follow in most of the countries except the UK and the US.
It looks like a pretty nice screen, but we knew that from the Wave II already. It is maybe just the Super AMOLED Galaxy S, but don't say that it is because of the big viewing angles and outdoor visibility: the Wave II also has big viewing angles and good visibility. Super Clear LCD is an LCD with a lot of the advantages of AMOLED.
What do you think?
it actually shows that Samsung is planning to drop the I9000 and make another phone their new Flagship
they did that with all their previous phone.
only flagship phones have SAMOLED displays
absolutely signed allgamer.
i hope they didnt cancel the development for the sgs yet :/
maybe they need the displays for the nexus s now? who knows? are they identically constructed?
actually the new Galaxy S 4G (Tmobile) is around the corner (supposedly March)
then there are those other new models that some calls it Galaxy S2
Nexus S is not doing that well, the Europe models are being sold with SLCD, only the America and UK model are SAMOLED
i wonder which screen is the Canadian model is going to come shipped with, also expected in March
and supposedly they are also planning to release a 850/1900 version of the Nexus S, not sure how true that rumor is
Well, whatever these youtube videos mean (there is also a review in text by the way), the display looks pretty good!
It is a shame that so little know about this display. The display of the Wave II was considered to be a downgrade just because of the fact that the original Wave had Super AMOLED. Of course, most of the people like the high-contrast colours of Super AMOLED, and this display isn't going to change that, but it sure is nice.
Here is a quote from the review (translated to very bad english):
Screen
Screen at Galaxy S "new " type Super Clear LCD, Super Amoled not like the first generation. Reportedly the reason to replace it with SuperClear Samsung LCD because of limited raw material Super Amoled. This is experienced by Samsung Wave II, which is generally the same as the first wave, only increased the size of the screen. Galaxy S is the screen is really the same as the first generation air-Super Amoled, 4 inches with a resolution of 800x480 and 16 million colors. In quality at first glance does not differ much. However, it was from a narrow angle, LCD SuperClear less with Super Amoled. Nevertheless LCD SuperClear still win far compared with a standard TFT LCD Xperia X10-style, from the angle of vision and color quality.

Hey Guys,
It has been two months since I switched from my iPhone 4 to the Galaxy Note and I haven't touched the iPhone since I bought the Note until yesterday to factory reset it and give it to a friend when I noticed that the iPhone's display looked better (higher resolution) than the galaxy note!! I felt that my Note has a bluish tone to its display?!?! Is this normal or do I have a faulty note? Please help!!
The iPhone 4 has a higher PPI (Pixels Per Inch), so the iPhone's screen is sharper. But the Note's screen is far from bad. Can you post a pic of your screen? (Not a screenshot) And try to get a good pic.
I am at work right now. Will post pics of the Note once I get back home (Can't post pics of iPhone and Note together cos I gave the iPhone away). I am not saying that the Note's display was bad but when I placed them side by side I could tell that the iPhone's display was better easily. I thought the Note should beat the iPhone in display easily because of the Note's higher resolution.

iPhone 4 (and 4s) has smaller screen, but higher resolution: 3.5 inches 960 × 640 px at 326 ppi. So it's screen shows more detail than the one on the Note.
I played with iPhone 4s and the Note side by side and would agree that movies, for example, often look "better" on the iPhone, especially the darker sciens. Although the overall picture is smaller, the iPhone's super LCD screen tends to give "more natural" look to a video than the super AMOLED screen on the Note, especially if the quality of the video encoding is not that great. In my experience anyway...
That being said, the quality of screens on the Note appears to vary quite a bit. There's a couple of rather long and active threads here discussing the screen issues...

Comparing my z1 to my old s2, which has a Chinese replacement screen in it I've noticed that the colour on the z1 is a fair bit less vibrant, (is slightly less bright than my z1 too), I was wondering if you can change the colour scheme? My s2 has 3 or 4 colour schemes (e.g. Dynamic) so I was hoping the z1 has the same, or maybe an aftermarket app that might help? This thing is pretty dull compared
Cheers
The fact is, that the colors of the Z1's screen are not dull, they are realistic and true.
I had an S2 myself and it shows completly wrong, unnatural and oversaturated colors. When you've used an S2 for a long time, you'll get the impression that normal colors are dull, when in fact they are not and the S2 colors are wrong.
That's the problem.

Totally agree, having worked calibrating TV's a few years back I hated my S2 screen when I first received it until I realized I could change to a movie setting which made the palette a lot more comfortable on the eye.

Galaxy s2 uses a Super Amoled Plus display it is a completely different technology than the LCD with Triluminos found in Z1. The Amoled displays are characterized by oversaturated and unnatural colors. Xperia Z1 display has more natural color reproduction.
It is a matter of personal preference but the fact is you will never be able to get such color saturation on Z1.
as a S3 owner, I can agree, AMOLED has way too many flaws that puts me off from getting anything with AMOLED screen. It was basically unreadable under sunlight.
It's art not reality
I for one, still own & use a GS2, & still love the colours. I have it set to "Movie" mode, because the tones are somewhat warmer. Other screens just aren't as much fun. The screen on the S2, still going strong after all these years, looks like something out of the future, like something we would've imagined existed back when Blade Runner came out. It's great. Call it unnatural, that's fine with me. It's not natural. It's a phone. It's art ifice, not so-caled "Reality"...
The day will come when all that seems passe now, such as Scott Forstall era iOS, skeumorphism, Android Gingerbread, Super AMOLED+, etc, will return, & be "retro" cool...
Wait for it
So my partner has a new iPhone 6s Plus and the clarity of his screen has me envious.
Checked the specs on GMS the N6 has more pixels and a higher density %, so what gives?
Is it the AMOLED screen? Is it possible to get that level of clarity?
Do you have a screen protector on? Those can make display look fuzzy, especially the anti-glare protectors.
my n6 screen is much more crisp than an I phones..
I suggest doing two things,
1- With a custom kernel, pick a color profile that fits you; and/or
2- Download this:

Yes, kind of.
AMOLED is... visually TERRIBLE. There are two advantages it has over a conventional LCD; (1) lower power consumption -- black pixels are actually switched off. (2) no backlight means no light bleeding through "black", in other words, black is more black on an AMOLED than an LCD.
The other part of it is that AMOLED actually *CHEATS* on its resolution claims. Something called an "RGBG subpixel matrix". The "RGBG" part is particularly important, since it describes the actual layout of the R, G, and B pixels -- for Red, Green, and Blue. Notice that there are twice as many G's as R's or B's.... Right. Its only 2560x1440 in GREEN. The Red and Blue are each only 2560x720. THAT is why the higher pixel density LOOKS less sharp than the apple LCD. You can thank samsung for that one, AMOLED is their tech.
So for the question about whether or not you can get that same (or better) clarity of of a Nexus 6... sure, if the image is ALL GREEN.
Edit: These are the Android phone's I've owned, in chronological order;
2008: HTC Dream, 480x320 LCD -- reasonable, given the low resolution.
2010: HTC Vision, 800x480 LCD -- at its time, absolutely stunning. Still "pleasant".
2012: Samsung Relay, 800x480 AMOLED -- if looking at something could cause your eyes to bleed, this would have done just that. Absolutely the WORST display imaginable. I had MUCH higher hopes for it, given all the "good" I'd heard about AMOLED and how "crisp" and "high contrast" they were supposed to be. That it could be dramatically WORSE than the 480x320 on the HTC Dream was stunning. I was expecting it to at least be "close" to the HTC Vision.
2015: Nexus 6, 2560x1440 AMOLED -- while visually the best so far, it is only because of the absurdly high number of pixels. So many that it has a significant negative impact on graphic performance. I would gladly sacrifice a little bit of battery and contrast to get the performance of 1920x1080.
turn up your brightness, N6's screen looks terrible at low brightness unless you have a kcal kernel to adjust the colors (stock warm colors look fuzzier imo compared to cool colors). The iphone having a LCD makes it look basically the same at any brightness at least color and sharpness-wise.
iphone is crisp because of its tech..
but i love nexus more..
i dont adore the nexus because of its screen but i love android because its an ANDROID
Honestly, I'm just getting old. I think the Nexus 6 screen is perfectly fine - crisp and clear.
Looking to buy S8 as it is comparatively more compact & cheaper.
How is the overall quality of LCD on S8? Does it have any accuracy issue like warm tone?
Thanks

S8 has got TFT panel instead of OLED like s8+ and S8 Ultra has got.
Screen quality is better than Tab s5e
(especially if your have allergy and tears on Amoled)
UPDATE: screen is amazing
Screen of S8 is good, it's a TFT screen but is consistent even in the edges of the screen. Only issue i got is that Samsung doesn't have adaptative warm tones on panels that aren't oled, also don't expect perfect blacks.
It's great. I have no complaints with it.
Great quality (Samsung galaxy tab s8 ultra ).

He is asking for s8 which hasn't oled. S8 ultra has oled. If you like oled, you don't buy s8 regardless how good is the screen, it isn't oled..
You are right Sosimple, i respond to quickly. Sorry for that.
I've a Tab S8 since some months. The screen quality is excellent. It is a LCD display , one of the best.
In the past I had also a Tab S7 plus with amoled but I like more the Tab S8 because of the size. The LCD allows also better energy consumption compared to the amoled.
I may suggest to buy also the keyboard with trackpad (the one made for tab S7 , not the recently released version without trackpad) . It is a nice accessory that transform the tablet into a semi Surface expecially in the Dex Mode.

LCD takes actually more power than amoled/oled. Since black on amoled/OLED has got leds turned off which takes less power on black areas. While LCD keeps leds on and mixes colours into more like grayish black.

What you say it's true but S8 battery life is much better than S8+ (according to what i saw on the internet), this might be cause S8 is the only one with adaptative refresh rate
