MicroSD Card for the S2 - Which one are you using? - Galaxy Tab S2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am looking to purchase a MicroSD card for my S2 I want to purchase one that is know to work and you can personally vouch for it in your S2
I have read that certain formats will not work with large (128GB) MicroSD cards. So help me out if you would and let me know what works and what doesn't. I would like at least a 64GB or possibly a 128GB.
Thanks

I can vouch for the Samsung Evo cards. I am using these cards in all my devices now and had no issues whatsoever. My biggest is 64gb.
They are highly rated for the price.

Same here: Samsung EVO.

Just bought a Samsung EVO 128Gb. Works perfectly fine in my S2.

So this should work?

I thought I'd try something different after the SanDisk I was using crapped out. Seems plenty fast enough for my purposes. And it's inexpensive.

I'd just be a bit worried putting so much data on it after my experience. If you've nothing important then nothing to worry about.

64GB Micro SDXC compatibility

Many of other recent devices have been confirmed that 64GB SDXC card work on those devices if it's been formatted by the phone. If other phones can work with SDXC, I'm sure our Thrill will work too.
If you purchased a Sandisk 64GB MicroSDXC card, please confirm here that it works. Thanks

If you can list these devices and point to where its said the 64GB is working I'll give it a go. I'll be getting a small sum to work on a idea I had and I might tack that sd on to the expenses.

Many of these users reported that the ExFat file system will not work with 64GB card. It has to be formatted to Fat32 by the phone. Once formatted, the card will work.
Also from Wikipedia
Other operating system kernels, such as Linux, make no distinction between SDHC and SDXC cards, as long as the card contains a compatible filesystem.

Unlimited: Cpu, cores, channels, ram, etc. all with a thought sensitive keybord and UI projector crammed into the size of a cell battery. Then Ill be happy. It would also have to meet mil. specs. Of course if it didnt come in the most popular colours of the day and have 200000 apps I wont want it.
But until then Ill have to be happy running a laser keyboard/ pico

Not sure if you read any of the posts I linked but in order for the SDXC to work with the Thrill, you have to format to FAT32 not ExFAT. ExFAT will not work. files over 4GB will not work.
ExFAT (tried with 8GB that is stock) is not compatible with the LG Thrill on 10K (European) Firmaware.
I tried the Windows selected default of 32kb and also "Default Allocation Size", both leave the OS complaining of damaged SD card.
(Can't wait for a Cyanagen Mod, I remember reading in the footnotes of the most recent release LG Thrill was on the list of upcoming; hopefully this will add EXT3 support.)

Is anyone holding out for the 64 GB version?

One thing that I wish Samsung would copy Apple is ACTUALLY have a real 64 GB version. Announce to everyone during the event that there will be a 64 gb version then never actually sell it is just wrong. So is anyone hopeful and still holding out for it?
64GB is mythological. I don't think I've ever seen a 64GB Samsung phone..not even on youtube.

It'll probably be the international version, like it was with the Note II (and it was only available on the Asian market).
I could see them doing a mid model year update variant with 64 gb for major carriers. purely speculating.

The standard supports cards larger than 64GB. Even 64GB ones are relatively recent.
I think the limit is technical. Look at the underside of a 64GB MicroSD card - The black rectangle is the chip; and it takes up almost the whole area. It's around 50mm^2, which is around the die size of the most advanced 32GB flash memory - so they've got 2 of those stacked up, and the whole thing still barely fits.
They need another process shrink to get 128GB of flash into a MicroSD card form factor...
I too wish I could have had the choice to purchase a 64GB Note 3.
I have a 64GB card in mine and I will purchase a 128GB card when they become available.
The note 3 should support any size card that is SDxc compatible.
They introduced the SDxc over 2 years ago at CES and the 64GB card is the biggest I've seen thus far, but the SDxc format is theoretically capable of supporting up to 2TB cards. It will come eventually but I'm sure it will be a few years before we see something close to 1TB.
I am waiting for the 64GB version, will be out next September renamed teh Note 4 and only available in Asian markets.
It's not Samsung's fault...blame your carriers. The carriers aren't interested in carrying multiple versions of the same phone other than maybe a different color. The only phone that gets away with it is the iPhone because their followers will buy anything.

I popped a new Samsung 64GB in mine, a week or two ago, it popped up and said something like "Unable to read card, would you like to format it?" (not verbatim, but that was the gist of it), I said Yes and it's been fine since then... No lag either, but I am only using about 5gb worth of space so far, mostly all music.

On your website, you list the new 128 GB microSDXC card as compatible with the Motorola Droid 2, but not the Droid 4. I don't understand how this could be? I have a Droid 4 with a 64 GB SanDisk microSDXC installed and it works fine. So, what's the story? I really need to upgrade to the 128 GB on my phone. Please advise. Thanks, James
...and received the following response this morning:
Dear James,
Thanks for contacting SanDisk Technical Support. It is our goal to make sure you have all the resources you need to get the most from your product.
Please allow us to inform you that 128GB microSD cards are built to conform to the microSDXC standard and since your phone is currently working with a 64GB microSDXC card we see no reason why the 128GB microSDXC will not work; however we have not tested it so can't guarantee one way or the other.
We remain at your service for any additional information or assistance.

Samsung already tried that and came back. I think we are pretty safe to bet on Samsung keeping the slot for awhile. I won't buy another phone without removable storage. I've lost so much on my last 4 phones that died, one being a Nexus 6P with no external storage.

Yeah, Samsung is keeping our expand-ability for now, just like with the headphone jack. They want (atleast for the note devices) to be seen as the premium devices for professional work and power users so I think they will keep that draw over more mainstream-focused devices like the Pixel who is directly competing with the iPhone for that userbase.

Well, that was a sort of an experiment, they got the results, and they decided to re implement the sd card, as the note 5 was not very well received
Developing anything that would make a good flagship "Note" device any step closer to being handicapped like an iPhone is a bad experiment going in the wrong direction to begin with. I only bought a Note 5, because my Note 4 screen broke (and the repair costs justified replacing the unit). I'm still surprised that the Note 5 progressed past the prototype phase without the MicroSD card slot.
