Note 5 problems - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

guys.
I got a C variant and its fantastic, but a few things.
How on earth do i create folders in the apps area or move apps inside new created folders, When I long press on an app i want to move it just drags it to the home screen, I want it moved into a folder in the app area, not in the home screen(s)
second, the s pen, with the note 4 you could grab a image or whatnot and it would extract text from this (T was up in the top corner to signify this), you could then email or share the text it extracted from an image. Can the note 5 not do this?
lastly, can you get 2A wireless charge pads or what is the highest output these provide?
cheers.

Q#1--When you open the apps drawer, you need to hit "edit", then you can drag/drop on app on top of another to create a new folder.
I rarely use the s pen, so I can't answer your second question. As far as the third question, wireless charging abides by a Qi standard, so there's only standard charging and the new fast charger.

App Suggestion: Quick photo categorization/sorting

Looking for a very simple photo sorting app, to help me sort large volumes of photos into neat categories. Basically, it would feature a normal image browser that lets me slide left and right to change pictures (one photo at a time, full screen display), but it would also have a simple overlay on the bottom or side with 4-6 user created categories and a delete button. Touching the category would move that photo to the folder associated with the category simply with no confirmation, and automatically move to the next image. If delete is pressed, the file is deleted (Or moved to a temporary "trash can" type folder that is emptied upon user request or at the end of the sorting session) and the next picture is displayed. The idea here is to use very quick, single touch commands with no extra confirmation steps. To accommodate a larger amount of sort categories, they could be tree based. IE, a Sports category button could open 4 or 5 Specific sports related categories.
Also, if a photo is moved to a category folder with a duplicate name, both images should be displayed side by side with very basic file information (perhaps simply the image resolution), for simple verification of duplicates, an option of which file to keep and which to delete if they are duplicates (the resolution information helps you select the best quality one to keep), and the option to append a few random characters to the filename if they are not duplicates, and continue with the file move operation.
All of this needs to be simple and fast - other apps exist for this type of categorization, but it involves far too much slow navigation through menus and unnecessary confirmation steps. What I desire is for 95% of this process to be simply tapping the category, next image comes up, tap category, next image, don't like this one - tap delete, next image comes up.. etc. etc. The only time I get a popup is when a duplicate filename is found. I don't know how fast the files can actually be moved to the category folders, and hopefully that would be handled in the background without slowing down the sorting process. If it would significantly impact performance, perhaps instead of actually moving the files - it just makes a log of what needs to be moved, then every 500 or 1000 pictures you could press the "make it so" button, and it processes the log of needed file moves.
If anyone if familiar with the PC image sorting app called Sortpics - I'm basically looking for something similar, though with a touch interface and for an android tablet so that I can load up my tablet with a bunch of unorganized photos, and organize them while I'm lazing in the recliner or on the go.
Posting this in the Xoom forum because I have a xoom, and I know there are a lot of very talented app developers here who have already come up with some fantastic apps for my xoom!

[Q] Minimoto v1.7 on Milestone 3 - Stock Dock App?

I have a Milestone 3 (XT860) from Movistar Argentina.
I installed Safestrap v3.05 and minimoto v1.7.
Everything goes as expected, excellent resources management. Over 100 MB RAM FREE!
Right now, I'm dealing with the dock app. I bought the Droid 3 Dock, the one with HDMI and USB connectors. I have one at home and one a work.
At home I use the bedside look, while at work I used the Productivity look and, sometimes, the HDMI mirror.
When I put the phone on the dock, N1 alarm gets opened.
After reading all the 49 pages of the dev thread of Minimoto ROM I realized that there is a way to use some stock apps in this one.
Is there any guide or documentation too look for more info in order to achieve this?

What I usually do is look for the app in another deodexed, stock ROM, like Maverick. Download the Maverick zip file and unzip it. Look for the files in /system/app. I'm not sure what the dock requires; maybe dockservice.apk and dock.apk, though maybe it's smartdock.apk; while the car dock is smartcardock.apk.
I copy those files to SD, enable third party installs in settings->applications, and install the apps by tapping on them with the file application. I suppose you could move them to /system/app with root explorer and change the permissions but I just install the apps and the car dock works.
I only wanted the car dock and installed the last two (the two that begin smart) and the car dock works.

Thanks doogald! :good:
I downloaded latest Maverick 4.5 and installed Dock.apk, SmartDock.apk, DockServices.apk and SmartCarDock.apk.
After doing that, when I put the phone on it's dock, it showed the options for bedside, productivity, dismiss picker and Other "Displays non-smart mode dock apps".
Bedside and Productivity choices fail to start with a quick (so fast that I can not read) message. If I choose "Other", then N1 Alarm starts and keeps on top.
As far as I can see, I'm closer than I thought I would be, but still have to find the way to modify dock app config to not start N1Alarm.
Maybe, some parts of dockservice and dock are running in background to allow N1Alarm opening when on dock.
I tried to post a question in minimoto's post but I'm not allowed to.
Thanks in advance for your time.
Breaking news!
Yesterday, after 10 weeks, I received the shipment with my brand new car dock for my Milestone 3.
At eBay's site "/itm/111127122521?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649"
As I said in my previous posts, I installed the deodexed apks from Maverick 4.5 and when I connected the phone into the car dock everything went as expected. :fingers-crossed:
Car dock app got started and worked like a charm.
My only pending issue is to make work SmartDock Productivity and Bedside apps when the phone is into desktop dock.

Wireless Charging Started tone

:highfive::good: I use several wireless charging pads on my G2!! Most custom roms use an annoying "sound" to indicate "wireless" charging. A fan of Pink Floyd, from Wish You Were Here, I've made a more suitable "WirelessChargingStarted.ogg" file!! To use the file, use your favorite root file manager, unzip file, nav to system/media/audio/ui, rename or delete "WirelessChargingStarted.ogg", copy unzipped, modified file to system/media/audio/ui, set permissions to rw-r-r (6-4-4), place your device on a wireless charging pad for something different!! :highfive: :good:
I did the same thing but mine plays a recording of the Star Trek computer saying "emergency power engaged". Any system UI sound can be replaced this way.
Sent from my VS980 4G using XDA Free mobile app
works nice

[Q] Moveable and Resizable Apps

I am not sure if this is the right place to post this so by all means move it to the correct place in the forums if this is not correct. But I have been looking for a module that allows you to take the app that is currently open and move and resize it around the screen. So say I am in my sms app and I get another notification I can simply just drag the app I am in into the bottom side or wherever while I look at the other app. I know there is XHalo Floating Window and apps like those but those you launch the app separately which to me seems a little unneeded. I am just looking for something that allows me to take the app I am currently in and move it around to open another. Thanks

maybe one of these will help

Question Why is adding apps to a folder so frustrating?

Hello! So I'm keeping my apps list to a maximum of two pages for practical reasons, and whenever I install a new app, it becomes the first and only app on the third page of the list. That's why I have some of my apps organized inside folders, to always have two pages filled with apps. The thing is, whenever I drag that last app to a folder that is located at the beginning of the first page, the app order gets messed up. All the apps located after that folder get shifted by one place to the right, leaving an empy space on both pages, requiring me to drag the apps (one by one) back to their original positions. I find that extremely annoying. Why would they make the apps behave in such manner? Is there any other way of moving apps to a folder?

Yes, there is another way to add apps to existing folders.
Just open the folder and click the plus at the top of it (see my screenshot). Then you can select all apps you want to add to this folder. So your apps drawer will not be messed up accidentally.
