I'm thinking of buying this tablet at some point for personal use and also school work, and wanted to know some things ahead of time.
How well does GApps work? Specifically Chrome, Drive, and Docs?
Would emulators work well? SNES and GBA specifically
Is there anything I should know about OTAs? Do any OTAs break GApps?
Anything else that's important I should know about?
Thanks for your help!

Hello
answer to #2 is,
don't know yet but every game i personally tried works
I was planing on trying these, sooner or later
snes9x EX+ works with demo game
answer to #4 is
"there is no life after death"
.
1) If you running 5.0.1 then chrome and drive work. Used both of them. Store works, Hangouts works including dialer for VOIP.
2) Can't comment never tried any.
3) As unboxed there is an OTA that brings the OS to 5.0.1. It makes Google store and Apps work but locks you into the Amazon launcher. As of right now there is no way of knowing what future updates could bring.
4) on the Amazon launcher widgets are not supported.

Hey everyone,
I tried to buy World Of Goo on the market today, but have been struggling with it! I manage to successfully buy it, but when downloading I get told that I have "insufficient space". The way I understand it, this is likely due to the 30mb limit imposed by the Galaxy S? This may be completely wrong, but after a brief search that appears to be my problem. I've tried the following:
1) Wiping cache (no change)
2) Wiping Dalvik-cache (no change)
3) Rolling back to Market 2.3.6 (didn't even give me an error, just didn't download)
4) A script which created a larger virtual cache (script ran into an error and didn't run)
5) Any combination of the above you can think of
Does anyone have any ideas on what I could try next? The demo installed and ran beautifully, I was really excited to play the full version!
World of Goo and 30MB limit on Market
Hi,
Same problem here... I do remember that AirAttack HD had the same problem - it was sold in two parts but afterwards Dev did something so that the package would be down-loadable on SGS via Android Market. At this point I have only found demo apk and it installs correctly (outside Market), but I would like to purchase full version and RUN IT.
Demo works fast and flawlessly.
I have a strange idea - buy a full version on web Andorid Market, find a full game apk and then connect it to Market via "Market Doctor" in Titanium Backup...
Just tried to buy it on the web-based market, but it says it's incompatible. Besides, that's a bit too close to piracy
Answer...
Well I did change my JVS to CyanogenMOD 7.1 and it works... I was able to buy World of Goo in the Market, it works...

Yes, CM7 doesn't have that issue. There are also successful ways of creating a temporary virtual cache big enough to handle the size. And like someone else said, if you buy the app, download a pirated older version, use Titanium Backup if you need to link it to the market, and then update it to the proper version in the market. It may seem like piracy, but if you're paying for the app this will work.
I had this problem but have now installed the game. I was already on Simplicity ROM and had the Semaphore kernel installed, this has an add on that allows virtual 50Mb cache. This didn't help in the Market though.
I had to go to their own website and buy it with Paypal, then getting emailed a link for download. Great game!

I'm so pissed! I should have known better than to order a game this big off the Android Market. I ordered the game using my PC and I thought the game was going to be sent to my phone straight from 2D boys because that's what my order e-mail said.
But then I got an error message from the market telling me the "not enough space" crap. I bought the game! Then insult to injury, I discovered that I could have bought the game directly from 2d Boys off their web site. They are set up now for Android phone orders! I e-mailed them and hope to hear back soon. I told them that they are going to be flooded with complaints because the market is broken.
Same problem here, I have tried everything that is mentioned in the first post without success, however I was playing the demo past week in MIUI without a problem, now I'm on CM 7.1 final. I sent an email to the support address but there is no answer yet. Any other idea?
2DBoys did get back to me and they are aware of the problem with the Android market. I e-mailed the guy my order # and he refunded my money. I asked him how downloading straight from 2Dboys web site worked, but I haven't heard back yet. I'm not going to try until I know it's going to work. Must say they were fast with getting back to me.

Same here - they were really quick in recognizing the issue and even sent me a dl-link as if I had bought it straight from them. Really great support.
Like you I really can't wrap my head around why this only happens with Market downloads the install from 2DBoys was no problem.
I've seen 100 explanations for this issue, and I'm still not sure what is causing it.
Ps. Now the World-of-Goo wants to update in Android Market (even thou I ended up dl-ing it straight from 2DBoys), but if I try it just says I haven't purchased it... Ds.
Google Checkout shutdown yesterday and apparently many developers didn't enable google wallet or any other payment option....it's so annoying. I want the paid version of FlashFox....YOU GUYS PUT SOME FIRE UNDER SOMEONES TAIL and get this going ok?
Or if the solution is to use google wallet, I don't know how to do that when it doesn't happen automatically, so please let me know. Adobe flash worked fine on my GNex, but it won't on my Note 3...I've tried appbrain, amazon, and have found no workaround for this problem.thank you, Cyn

Working w/ google play and wallet, they recently updated wallet and it works fine....but it certainly wasn't last night nor until now...they were asking me to reset my phone to factory of all things, I said no....that it had to be something to do w/ until yesterday google checkout and wallet were separate entities......I guess I was the only one around here having problems, although androidcentral was showing some issues.
Root and play services all went without a hitch, but I cannot run an app that requires an additional permission normally accessed via settings>security>apps with usage access. It simply does not exist in the settings menu on the kindle. Is there any way to add the option or access the setting another way?
I've attached a screenshot of the app at the point it gets stuck.
Did you ever get this working?
Sorry, this isn't an answer. For some reason, posting a comment isn't working on this site in any web browser. In any case, I've got the exact situation you do (same HW/SW/root). I'm even trying to get the same app working through the google play store that you are, and am seeing the same message. Did you ever find a solution to this? Were you ever able to get MobileFence running on the Fire?
It is not available on Fire OS. Since Amazon has no use for Google play services. You would have to
Install a different ROM. I would ditch Fire Os and set it up as a kids tablet under CM or SlimLP. There is a good thread on how to do it in the Fire forum.
This proves Jeff Bezos is as big a crooks as the rest of them.
This stinks to high heaven!
Actually no, business model is solid even though it displeases some. Purchase a different device If you dislike Amazon's ecosystem.
This should work: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/guide-workaround-apps-access-to-usage-t3535705
I know this is an old post, but since I came across it looking for a solution, I thought I should answer for others that come across this looking for a solution...
I found the answer on this thread, but here's the tl;dr version:
Download App Ops, which also requires Shizuku Manager.
I was trying to install AppLock which has a similar issue and this fixed it for me.
It is really great to have the Google Play Store to leverage the apps I already bought for the kids. But unfortunately, since the Amazon child profiles can't see them, and the issues I mentioned elswhere with the Kindle reader being tied to the device account, sigh... It looks like a move to CM might be the only option.
But one curiosity, if I stay with this setup of the Fire software and sideloaded Google Play stuff... When I go to the online play store, I see my other [older] devices registered there, but I can't see the new ones. However, if I go to the device locater, they do show up. Very strange. But I can't see them in the device list or when it comes to download/install software from the web.
Anyone else getting this to work or seeing this same behavior?
I have the same question. It's a bit annoying. It can be much easier to use Google Play on a desktop, and then have it push the app to the device.
Has anyone figured out a way to get the Fire listed as one of your devices in the Google Play desktop store? I assume it involves some sort of registration that our method of installing Google Play and its required services does not do.

A common problem with custom roms and 3rd party devices (Google it) that has nothing to do with the method used to install Google Play components. All my Amazon devices show up just fine; took no special steps to make it happen. Likely something related to Google Account configuration IMHO.

So you run stock roms on your Amazon devices? I'm just running FireOS, albeit now with the Nova Launcher. Do you have any FireOS devices that have it?
I'm actually kinda hoping someone will have a device that works and one that doesn't and they can try and see what the underlying difference is.

At present I do not have FireOS running on any of my devices. Not a bad rom once debloated if you like the presentation. My leanings are closer to AOSP (pure Android UI).
I don't believe a direct comparison will yield any clues as the problem has been around for years, crosses multiple device types and has (so far) resisted efforts to diagnose. There are a handful of workarounds and supposed fixes but what works for one often fails for the rest.

Google 'device not in play store' or similar constructs; lots of material. Maybe something will work for you!
As soon as I got my 810, I let it update to Marshmallow (factory image)
Now I am trying to load on a number of my usual apps, and they refuse to install. I have no idea why. One is VLC- so I can watch videos. Another is all of Microsoft's Office stuff (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.) Does anyone have an idea about why that might be? Or a method of debugging the store?

i had issues with vlc after my update apparently it didn't support marshmallow! but there is another vlc version 0.9.10 that works.
re: office, they just installed fine on mine so not sure why they not working on yours, maybe go into samsung apps and check for update?
That's the weird thing here. I have MS WORD on here already, preloaded. But if I go into Google Store it says my device is not compatible. I could try the Sammy store, but I didn't really want to send my email to another spam haven.
