Run a fastboot oem unlock on it, followed by a factory reset.
And hand it over in an unlocked state.
There is not a bloody thing google can do if its unlocked.

You have to remove the Google account before the factory reset. If you do not, you will be prompted for your google account password at first boot. Even flashing factory images cannot undo this.
I've seen one person who believed they took it to a "mobile phone repair guy" and managed to bypass the Google account lock, but I've seen no one else confirm a way around it.

There are at least 2 ways around it... 1 is reasonably obvious if you read up on its implementation... The other I haven't tested personally.

I think my point should be "remove the google account before resetting the device"

DId you read the part where I said to UNLOCK it?
Let me repeat then;
STEP 1: UNLOCK
Step 2: factory reset.
Step 3: sell.

Haha, I love the way you have such an attitude when you think you're right and someone got something wrong or missed something. It's even funnier when you're the one who is wrong. That said, it is not endearing at all!
Let me break it down for you in simple terms. If you do not remove the google account before a factory reset, the first boot will ask for the google credentials, even if you are unlocked. Even flashing a factory image cannot get around this.
May there be some secret way to bypass this? Yes, there may be BUT that is NOT an acceptable way to sell a phone. I know you have these strange, ridiculous quirks like "If they can't compile it themselves then they are not worthy", but it is not acceptable to purposely neglect to prepare the device for sale by removing the google account first with the attitude of "Well if they cannot bypass Google's security features, they are not worthy". If you're selling a device as working order, unlocking it is not sufficient. Just remove the account, alright?!

I agree with @danarama . Was facing that issue.
- sign out of Google account in phone & remove any pin/pass/fingerprint (I didn't have any)
- Factory Reset
- Sold (Few days back)

5.1 Sign in loop. After email verification I am sent back to "Select wifi network"
Im on 5.1. When my phone boots up to the welcome screen I click "English", this sends me to sign in to my wifi, I do. Then it asks me to sign in to my email address this is what it says, "Verify your account", "This device was reset. To continue sign in with a Google Account that was previously synced on this device." I sign in with my Google account and my password, it then takes me to "By signing in you agree to the, blah blah. I click "ACCEPT" The screen says "Checking Info..." THEN THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME. It takes me back to "Select Wifi network". Its like a loop. I have tried other Google email I have but same thing. I have wiped cache, factory reset and this is the same thing all the time. I am lost. Please help. Any ideas would be very welcome.
Same is the case here!

I am facing the exact problem described by you on my Google Nexus 6. The reason being OEM unlock is switched off from inside and there is no option to turn it on again, without which flashing the bootloader is not possible.
I am still waiting for someone to reply or help with solution. Thanks for any help!

How did you update? OTA or factory IMG? Is your bootloader unlocked?
Had this problem as well over the weekend.
Whatever you do don't factory reset your N6 (or any other phone with 5.1 Device Protection) if you've changed your Google password within 72hrs. I found this out the hard way....
Important: If you reset your Google account password and need to do a factory reset, you need to wait 72 hours after changing your password to reset your device. For security purposes, you can't use an account if the password was changed within 72 hours to set up the device after reset.

Full page here.
I made this mistake and got stuck in a loop during setup on the N6. It would get past the WiFi setup, move to the account verification screens (gmail email then password) and loop back to the WiFi setup again. For the life of me I couldn't figure out why. Finally called Google support and after 30min was told I needed to wait 72hrs to try to reactivate the phone because I had reset my Google password less than 72hrs prior to factory resetting it.
Hopefully this will shed some light on the issue.

Lesson learned
Going forward, if I had a nandroid backup, and flashed it, I would be good right?
---------- Post added at 05:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:40 PM ----------
According to my Google account, I last changed my password on April 6th, at 11:46pm.
So with the 72 hour rule, at 11:46pm tonight, I should be able to log it, right?
(I just had to go flashing a new ROM lol)

Yes
Yes. I had no issues activating my N6 using my Google account once the 72hrs had past.
I just purchased my N6 from someone off Ebay and am getting this message. I have no clue whether the guy changed his password or not and he is not responding to any emails. He shipped it on Friday afternoon and it is now Tuesday - should be past the 72 hour mark. Any other ideas how to fix?

I remember seeing something about this, but I'm not 100% positive. As I remember, on 5.1 after a factory reset, if device protection was enabled the owner has to sign in again and disable all security. If he failed to do this, then he will need to supply you with his user name and password for his Google account (good luck!), or you'll have to return the phone to him, and he'll have to deal with it.

If you haven't already, open a claim with eBay first. By doing that, the seller has to respond.

No problem. Definitely protect the money you spent first! That's what buyer protection is for.
Since i just got it, ebay resolution cases don't take effect yet. I did send him an email (through ebay) explaining and pretty much demanding this information. Kinda annoyed at the fact that i have this sitting around on my desk and i can't even play!! Lol

I know, that's a huge bummer! I do recommend that you don't try to do anything yet though. If it turns out that you can't get past the sign in error, the seller will have to refund you. You purchased a device that was supposed to be working, right? So, you are not responsible. In the time you're waiting, you can keep checking, in case the password reset does go through.
That's exactly my plan. This guy has been less than responsive via ebay email so let's hope for the best here. Thanks for such a quick reply, too. I was freaking out over here

On eBay you need to attempt to contact and resolve with seller 1st before you can open a claim or dispute.

I had forgotten what the time limit was, being I haven't had an issue with eBay in a long time. OP had stated that he had tried to contact and the seller didn't respond, that's why I suggested the claim. The sooner he gets the resolution center involved, the better.
I recently flashed LMY47E factory images over the LMY47D build.
At the setup after i connect to my WiFi it says
"This device was reset. To continue, sign in with a Google Account that was previously synced on this device"
I have tried logging in several times and it just wont go to the next page. It loops back and again goes to the WiFi screen.
I reflashed the LMY47D build but no luck same issue .
I login into the exact same google account i was using and it loops back to the wifi screen.
I do have an unlocked bootloader and the password to my google account was changed earlier this morning.
@paranoidaditya,
That's pretty strange. I flashed D. Then E, a few days later, to see if there was any difference (not for me). Then back to D. Without any problems.
I'm grasping for straws here, but your recent change of password might be related?? I saw a post from @efrant a day or two ago that included some of the specifics from Google about unlocking and relocking bootloader.
The only other thing I could take a guess at is two factor sign in, if you have it enabled?

I am not using the 2 step verification and the bootloader is unlocked since the day i got the device back in January .
Most probably its related to the password change I guess.
I read an article last week on android police which said if the password is changed then there will be 3 day period in which google will keep something disabled and i am not able to recall what it was
*Update*
Found it
http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/0...evice-protection-feature-and-how-do-i-use-it/
"This is obviously a worst-case scenario, but Google does give you some protection here. The moment your Google account password is changed, Device Protection starts a 72-hour timer on your protected device. For that 72 hours, if the device is wiped, the account in question cannot be used to sign into / unlock the phone. "
Sucks I cannot use it for 3 days

Enable "OEM unlocking" in Developer options. Device protection is disabled that way (also when flashing new roms. this settings is kept enabled)
I know I'm not the only one that experiences this as I've seen other users just accepting that issue.
As some of us know, when we flash from one ROM to another, there is a CHANCE where we'll get the login screen which says "The device has been reset...", which normally is followed by "Please login with the device administrator account", or something along those lines.
I've talked to Google, and I know others have also, and we're told that there is a 72 hour "security" feature that will not allow you to log into a freshly installed device, even though that device is yours and you were just using it 5 minutes prior to flashing the install.
There is no way to bypass this, at least I don't think, and Google doesn't have a way of resetting.
What I'm trying to find out is if someone was able to get around this, or has a work around because holy hell is it annoying.

I searched a bit and found this:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/0...ne-you-might-trip-a-72-hour-security-lockout/
If that article is correct, the "chance" isn't something random, it is caused by changing your google account password. So to avoid, don't factory reset within 72 hours after changing your google account password.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3104504
As long as you do a full device wipe before flashing you are fine. I have never had this pop up. Just properly format system, data and both caches then flash. Simple and the only real way to flash a rom.
Tried to disconnect the account, doesn't work.

No, it's a sticky setting that is saved somewhere else. It even survives formatting of the system partition.
On 5.1 it was just a one time use thing and would reset upon it booting the system, must have changed on 6.0

i never knew it other as being sticky. Anyway... leaving it enabled disables the "forced" login to the original Google account. I was locked out once before. When that happened i restored a working TWRP backup. Rebooted and enabled 'OEM unlocking' and never had a forced login again (i flash about 2 or 3 times a day). Also... check the popup when you enable "OEM unlocking".
Yeah all device security goes out the window with it left on
I got bitten by this problem. Until there is a solution I just have to wait the 72+ hours?
I bought a new G6 (unlocked) for my sister, who lives in another state. She activated the new phone last night (Mint Mobile). When she got to the screen asking for entry of a password to protect against unauthorized use she entered a complex password (she didn't know she could just skip that screen). She wrote the password down, but now she can't find it. I called her this morning and she was able to use the fingerprint scanner to open the phone enough to answer my call, but she can't get to her apps.
I am aware that this sounds a little "fishy", but I didn't know where else to turn. Is there any way to reset or remove that password? Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks, Jerry

She can boot to recovery and reset the whole phone, the only option if bootloader is locked.
Got to wipe the phone and start over. tell her to make sure next time it's a simple password because she's going to have to use it every time to unlock the device if she has a screen lock set to password. even if it's set to fingerprint you have to enter the password anytime you reboot the device to unlock it the first time.
It's there to prevent unauthorized use so no there's no way around it. Except for factory resetting. even then make sure she logs in with the same Google account because she probably enabled factory reset protection as well.

omg.
my friend just seen my pattern when i unlocked my phone so i decided to change my pattern (it had been a real long time since i changed it anyway) so i did it.
i cant remember what i changed it to.
i actually changed it 2x but the first pattern i thought was too easy so i changed it again.
i didnt make it any harder as in more dots to complete the pattern but hard enough i dont remember it.
im on a s21 ultra of course.
is there a limit on how many failed attempts i can do?
so far i think im under 10 but it does make me wait 30secs alot.
if there is an unlimited amount i think i will guess it but if there is a finite i dont want to mess it up and do a factory reset or erase.
i have alot of my grandbabies pics and videos on there.
if there is a way to bypass it please tell me.
i know my google acct on computer etc... thats not a problem and that is the same acct on my phone.

Can only be done if you have find my device enabled and have an active internet connection in the phone tho
Step 1. Open the internet browser on your notebook and input the following website
address: https://findmymobile.samsung.com, click on the Sign in button and input your login credentials of your Samsung account, then click on Sign in button once more.
image to login to find my mobile web page
Step 2. The mobile device registered under your Samsung account will appear on the right-side of the screen. If you have multiple devices registered under the same Samsung account, make sure you select the device that needs to be remotely unlocked. Refer to the image below and click on the Unlock icon to unlock your device.
image after login to find my mobile web page
Step 3. Once you click on Unlock, a pop-up window will appear asking to verify the password of your Samsung account. After you input your password, click on the NEXT button, the pop-up window will automatically close and another pop-up window will appear with the result of remotely unlocking your device

Step 2. The mobile device registered under your Samsung account will appear on the right-side of the screen. If you have multiple devices registered under the same Samsung account, make sure you select the device that needs to be remotely unlocked. Refer to the image below and click on the Unlock icon to unlock your device.

Step 3. Once you click on Unlock, a pop-up window will appear asking to verify the password of your Samsung account. After you input your password, click on the NEXT button, the pop-up window will automatically close and another pop-up window will appear with the result of remotely unlocking your device

Well, at this point you probably need to reset the phone, as you didn't link your Samsung account.
There actually isn't any way to recover the data Unless you can guess the pattern again.
I don't know if Samsung themselves would unlock the phone if you took it to the support center providing proof that you own the phone, but that could get your data back idk
In my opinion it is worth a try in this case

Depends if you had that option enabled in settings, by default it is disabled

omg.
my friend just seen my pattern when i unlocked my phone so i decided to change my pattern (it had been a real long time since i changed it anyway) so i did it.
i cant remember what i changed it to.
i actually changed it 2x but the first pattern i thought was too easy so i changed it again.
i didnt make it any harder as in more dots to complete the pattern but hard enough i dont remember it.
im on a s21 ultra of course.
is there a limit on how many failed attempts i can do?
so far i think im under 10 but it does make me wait 30secs alot.
if there is an unlimited amount i think i will guess it but if there is a finite i dont want to mess it up and do a factory reset or erase.
i have alot of my grandbabies pics and videos on there.
if there is a way to bypass it please tell me.
i know my google acct on computer etc... thats not a problem and that is the same acct on my phone.

Your only solution is too wipe your phone. So take better care next time and chalk this one up to experience

Probably 3 then a waiting time, but it's probably more easier to take it to Samsung and get them to unlock it for you, since you own the phone they can do it.

i live in the country. i dont think there is a samsung store even in my state. im in iowa in usa
Samsung can't unlock it... pretty sure.
Once you set a lock screen the security is very good, too good. Sleep on it to see if the pattern comes to you... you still remember it.
That failing, suck it up. It may have not been your fault at all, see below.
I never set a screen lock, 2x tap on/off.
Never set a a bios password.
And most importantly never encrypt data backup hdds, etc.
You are the one most likely to get locked out... lesson learned the hard way.
A firmware failure, or external forces beyond your control (high energy particles of cosmic origin can do it*) can put you in a no win situation once you set an eccess password. While if you hadn't you likely wouldn't be locked out. I had a laptop bios lock me out, the password was simple a simple "S" even years latter I remember it... but the bios doesn't!
*this isn't a joke. Flying or being at higher elevations increases the risk. While it is slight when under the protection of the ionosphere it's still a random failure factor. One high energy particle can change the value of a flash memory cell without damaging it. The data however is corrupted unless redundantly backup which is one reason why spacecraft use at least 3 redundant computers.

omg wut ._.
Even if u hard reset, u will be asked to input your Samsung account and password, anf even with out knowing the pattern you have the option of putting in your PIN.
If you don't know your own PIN code then, something Is wrong!
