Optimus 4X HD - Thermal & Energy Throttling - LG Optimus 4X HD

So, as we all know, our beloved Optimus 4X HD can get really hot after heavy (or even light some times) usage. Being "inspired" by this guy, I wanted to investigate and find out:
-how much impact does thermal throttling have on our performance
-how much does Screen Brightness affect the thermal throttling
We have all seen the "Can not increase Screen Brightness due to high temperature" message on Stock. Did LG have a good reason for restricting us on that?
Finally, once I started doing the first runs, I noticed some really unexpected results... So, I tried to deepen even more and try to figure out if:
-the battery percentage impact the performance
The testing procedure was the following:
I kept running the Geekbench benchmark repeatedly for 30 minutes and taking note of the Multi-threaded score.
For the first set of runs I had the brightness decreased to Minimum. Then I charged the phone to 100%, left the device untouched for about 10 minutes (in order to cool down) and ran the test again with the Screen Brightness set to Maximum. Finally I did the same tests with the battery around 50%.
During the tests my Optimus 4X HD was:
-CyanogenMod 11 - Snapshot M10 (Android 4.4.4)
-No custom kernel
-Fully charged (1st go)
-Half charged (2nd go)
You can see the results on the following graph:

You can clearly see that battery level actually has more impact on the performance than temperature.
What questions does this answer?
Yes, Optimus 4X HD does throttle(as if we didn't already know that). Yes, screen brightness does matter. Yes, the device is faster when it has more juice left.
So guys, what do you thing about all this? Does throttling matter to you? Did you get different results on a different ROM/kernel? Do you think that buying a new battery would actually improve the performance of the device?

[Q] about to buy OB..need some answers pleaaaaaase :)

1- i heard alot about battery problem and drain so fast..so is it right or just normal like all rest of android phones (need some one use diff. phones) ??
2- is there any other general problems in this mobile ??
thank U in advance
1) battery problems isnt phone specific, if you decide to use it just as a phone some users have reported 6 days on a single charge with minimal internet/ screen on usage
2) only main problems with this phone (to me) is LG software support..... but thats really a non issue what with the wonderful roms our devs/chefs have for our device
large display will be always drain battery. there are no problems with the phone but sometimes are errors in the various roms

I'll say that it does drain quite fast, but I don't think it's because of the display, but rather the signal and CPU! Optimus Black's NOVA Display uses less battery than normal LCDs.
Here's the battery usage for 2d 13hours:

I had a Motorola Defy and the battery was soo good, I loved it...!
However I agree that optimizing your use by few tricks will help to keep the battery good.
You can use Profile Scheduler for example. It can control brightness, Wi-fi, apps, ringtone, signal, etc at different schedules! Quite handy at night (I use airplane mode, and not even 1% lost for 8 hours!)
Battery does drain fast, so I took it to the service centre and they repalced the battery.
Did make a differecence.
1.the battery on my OB with froyo was even better than on the iphone 4s with the exactly the same usage, now that i'm on GB things are not that worse after all, with Zeus rom i have 10-12 hours of intense usage, 3g always on, fb messenger, whatsapp, some browsing, market etc, mails, sincro on...i think i's not that bad, I know that iphone 4s has almost the same drain...
2. as for the rest I really had no problems with it! and with Huexxx's rom it's a jewel, really nice aesthetically and functionally...
OB is a very good device.. but you can find much better..

Poor battery life

My device is not very old. It's about 1 year now and battery isn't as good as it used to be. When I got it after school I had minimum 50% no matter what I've been doing and atm it's 24% which is disturbing.

Check for battery health in 7378423 to see if it had any wear out in battery capacity. Mine is 31460 (1+ year, when buy it is 32000, Sony is always add more to make the battery last longer )
And check for any apps that run out of battery, malware too (There are some Android malware which mine Bitcoin/Litecoin and make phone hot and run out of battery)
Also check your kernel setting or reflash ROM if nessesary.......
Mine is 1,5-2 day battery life with typical behavior.......
Well, my battery says 31440 when at 86% of charge. I haven't got many wake locks in betterbatterystats either so I'm not sure what could be the cause. I'm on stock kernel. Thanks for the heads up on that mining malware. I had no idea it went over to mobile devices. My phone actually gets a bit hot after some regular usage, but nothing out of ordinary I guess. I did lots of mods to the stock rom on my own so I'm not that keen on reflashing. I'd rather find out what could be the cause of that poor battery life and fix it by myself.
Any other suggestions and things to try?
You can reinstall your Firmware, and see if the battery life would be better. And my Wakelocks have i solved with the App DS Battery Saver.
Strangely enogh my battery was at 2880 after only 140 charge cycles.
Then by accidient it deep discharged (problems with not charging, hard reset etc. until it was fully 100% dead) and now is back at 3130 with only the first charge cycle counted as 1.
Not the case here since your's has a good number, but I wanted to add this information.

2013 Lollipop Performance

I saw the Lollipop performance thread, but it seemed mostly focused on the 2012 model, so I wanted to start a thread to air out some issues I'm having on the 2013 OTA. I sideloaded the OTA, and my tablet is encrypted, which may be contributing to these issues, but I have to say that performance is poor, bordering on abysmal.
I see stutters and lag all the time, even on the simplest tasks like drawing the notification drawer animation. Actions like returning to the home screen are brutal and sometimes take measurable time. Sometimes apps just slow to a crawl and the tablet seems to lock up for a bit before it figures out what it was doing.
And over the last two days, I've noticed completely brutal battery performance, including this garbage:

That's a day of the tablet sitting on my bed not being used. I think there was 35 minutes of screen time. The battery stats are useless: 11% Android OS and that was the highest. Nothing else, no miscellaneous or anything like that.
I just cleared my cache partition, but it's still being sluggish. Any ideas on what the hell is going on here? It feels awful and the tablet was really pretty damn decent before this update. The battery life was just fine: 85% or so if I came home from leaving it on the bed all day.
Likewise, are there any better battery stat apps I can look at that can help me get to the bottom of this? It feels like bad battery and bad performance could easily be related if something is grinding in the background and keeping a wakelock active and I have no idea.
Anyone else having an awful time of 2013 5.0? Anyone see a performance increase?
Seen the Nexus 7 2013 forum?
If not, try it out.
From the planet Compact
By way of an update, clearing the cache and a reboot seemed to have helped significantly. The weird battery drain is gone, so that might have just been a runaway process or something, and the overall feel of the tablet is back to being much snappier.
Dont know why i didnt think of clearing the cache. Performance is where it chould be now. Thanks!

Kernel OS And System Server high battery drain

guys ever since the update, i've had a horrible battery life because of kernel and system_server processes. Does anyone knows whats the cause or how i can fix the issue, i've tired "Wake Lock Detector", "GSAM", everything i can think of, even "show CPU" in the developer option, i cant seem to find the cause of the issue. if nessary ill add pictures to show the results that am getting
sorry, completely forgot to mention that am using a S5 Active(G870A) and updated to 5.0 (OC5) using @muniz_ri version http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s5/general/how-to-update-to-g870aoc5-5-0-keeproot-t3083841
If screen is on alot not much help here; However, I am using my deductive reasoning & will suggest deep sleep battery saver. Makes my phone stay in the 90%s if my screen is off awhile. Firefox beta uses battery until you physically exit out I've learned. Last thought for now, kernal tuner. Put 1 CPU governor to powersave. Not sure if it matters which? Mine is CPU1. Hope it helped.
My Samsung S5 Active. Yes I read pages. Thanks
I wish it was the screen but the screen only takes up 3% of battery usage while android OS and kernel takes up about 50% combined and I have no idea what to do because "show cpu" state that system_server and media server is the culprit

Can anyone give me a little bit of in site as to what I can do to stop this?

Install better battery stats and get an idle dump so we can see what the exact issue is.

My Mi8 consistently gets worse 3DMark results compared to the rest

I switched to 12.5 ROM like a year ago after Xiaomi didn't deliver it as an update from the stock 12.0 ROM as they promised. I first checked the Google Pixel OS and did not enjoy the extremely basic UI then decided to turn back to MIUI since I actually like how it looks. While I was at it I decided to load the latest version possible.
I rooted the thing to experiment but ended up not being able to find much to gain with it since it is a failed product that didn't sell well, there were not many software stuff for it. Anyway out of curiosity I recently installed 3DMark and it performed very bad compared to average score. It looked like it wasn't boosting to max clock speeds so I tried forcing it to max clock speeds for both GPU and CPU with root Android toolbox. This somehow made it worse and get 800 points which is only better than %1 Mi8 phones that finished this test. So I reverted the changes and got the same 1140 ish score I got before. Tried testing it again while it was plugged to the charger with no difference. Max temperature was 33C which makes me believe it is not boosting to right clock speeds.
To be honest phone still feels ok to use and battery life is enough for me since I recently replaced the battery. So I will not be installing another OS if it is the only reason for the low score since I don't really care benchmark scores as long as I have a smooth experience. But I would like to know why it is so bad and if there is a way to solve the issue without re-flashing the whole thing. I also don't want to re-flash it since last time I tried loading back the stock ROM from the whole backup I created and it somehow randomly failed in the middle of it and corrupted the partition that was responsible to making it connect to SIM and Wifi and it was a pain in the ass to figure out what happened and fix it from the old save file I had.
I am also very bored by using this thing but don't really want to buy a new phone while they stagnated this much over the past years in terms of technological advancement. I am planning to make a custom 3D printed back for it and install like a 10K mah battery to BMS board of my old battery and unlock all the clock limits on the software to fully unlock its potential. Does anyone know where can I get a CAD file for this phone so I can design the stuff I need for this.
