Hello guys
I have a GT-I8190 phone and want to make a root and install a custom rom...
I searched about root but the information is a bit confused or have links down. Can i install twrp (https://twrp.me/site/update/2015/06/22/twrp-2.8.7.0-released.html) and then install super su (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053)?
Later i want to install the custom rom, i thought about - KitKat 4.4.4 (CyanogenMod 11.0) 20151017 or Lollipop 5.1.1 (CyanogenMod 12.1) 20151013 stable. Which one you think it's the best? The smoother and best battery life?
Thank you for your answers
KK 4.4.4 is the more stable working variant.

ok, i will install that first
Is lollipop (cm12.1, omni, slimLP )better than kitkat to keep on our s3 mini as we can experience ART and cool animations.
I already installed the 4.4.4 and looks really good!
I'm gonna try it to see how it goes...and then maybe try lollipop
I tried to install again the CM 11 and now got the error "encryption unsuccessful"
Can anyone tell me a workaround for this device?
Many thanks
Cm 11 drain battery as hell.
About your problem check your partitions, system, data, cache, must be on ext4
Please guys stop open threads, asking for the best ROM. As @kennethpenn well said, "Looking for the best ROM? The fastest ROM? Head over to the development section and try a few for yourself. We do not allow threads asking about the best/fastest ROM at XDA. Please do not create threads comparing ROMs." Original from here & please read the XDA rules first. Thanks

We are a bit lenient on Best Rom threads for quite some time now and so far no big issues irised from it.
As long things are kept civil and free from fanboyism etc we will allow it.
We WILL close them when we whe notice abuse though.
Cheers!

Is there an "easy" or tried and true method to downgrading? CM10.1 is too laggy for my phone. Is 9 any faster or more stable? I was going to downgrade to 7 because I know it works and I don't have any experience with 9.
Thanks in advance.

I don't want to come off as rude, but this belongs among Q&A threads, not Development. Having said that, 10.1 is a work in progress and yes 9 would be more stable. I recommend going back to stock Gingerbread and flashing up from there. There is a stickied thread at the top of this Dev forum with methods to go back to stock Gingerbread (I recommend KK4), or check my signature for links. Happy flashing!
CM10 is stable too, I had it on my phone for about a month with no single issue. Same file system, just flash and ready to go.
In my opinion, no need to downgrade to GB or ICS. I've tried many custom ROMs and JB based give best performance and smoothest UI.
Thread moved to Q and A as this is not a discussion that offers or is development.
Please post in accordance with XDA posting rules.
Thanks for the replies. I posted in the dev section by accident. Thanks for moving my post to the appropriate section. After reading through the threads about GB, ICS and JB I think I'll just stick with CM10.1 and optimize what I have.
Thanks again.

Try other JB ROMs too. There are many great and stable out there. I'm sure you'll find what you are looking for in less than a week. :victory:
Hi
I must say I am a bit disconnected from the Android world since I get to university and I must ask how all have evolved. I'm looking for the newest most stable custom roms at the moment of this post. I think it would be a good idea to maintain a post like this to keep track of what roms have reached a stable, proven state without having to dig too much.
Cheers!

Well there's the RC4 build (release candidate 4) of cyanogen mod 10.1 that's quite good. Its based on android 4.2.2.
Take note that you should ask questions in the questions section and ROM discussions are generally frowned upon so do venture into the development section to learn more about them.

OOPS!! I forgot the Q&A section totally. I would like to move this post or delete it but I don't see how I should do it. The Edit/delete button just drives me to the edit section and I don't see any way of deleting the post.
No worries, a mod will lock or move this thread eventually

I recommend roms with Mackay kernel, they are often stable and durable in battery but less powerful than Devil kernel. By the way, no one has moved or deleted this post yet =))
latest official samsung firmware tend to be the fastest most secure and stable ... try it maybe [ROOTED / 3FILE] XWJWB#_XEEJW2_XWJW1 by stock+

Asking for best rom is again XDA rules, If you are on stock rom and as you mentioned that it hasn't been used for a while, factory reset might help, if you don't like touchwiz, then flash KK rom of your choice after clean wipe, read thread for instructions on how to.

Sorry, missed that rule about asking for a rom :/
I am running good old CM 9xxx. I was more asking if there are any known roms to be as lite as possible and a really light launcher.
Anyway, Im downloading latest CM now and Ill see how that perform I get the idea that latest CM isnt the most light, especially for old devices with only 1gb ram, am I wrong?

never used CM, so i might not be the right person to answer that. I have been using Omnirom and Asylum-omni rom both with fabulous performance and battery life.
Mod Edit
"Best" or "Recommend" ROM/kernel threads are not allowed on XDA.
Please test these things for yourself.
This is the only way you will get an unbiased opinion, and then, you can decide for yourself if it meets YOUR needs.
Don't forget to make a nandroid before you start.

What features is it missing? I find it hard to believe that ALL of the features are missing from their ROM. Maybe you read the listing of features elsewhere, for their Lollipop builds?
oh, that what @cupfulloflol said, and you can always flash another rom, or a factory image.

Not a single ROM option like in the official video showed up. anyway just flashed blisspop 4.0.3 because it has more features.
Please try to read more next time. 6.0 recently came out and none of the many 6.0 ROMs out there are feature packed. What you were reading was 5.1.1 features. Blisspop doesn't even have 6.0 ROM out there yet so that's why it has a lot of features.
I am aware of this. But pure nexus has a list of features for 6.0 and I didn't get them. I flashed blisspop 4.0.3 for android 5.1.1

ok, i just read the op for that rom.. the features that you are describing are all in their 5.1.1 rom. the android 6 version if that rom just started up. and as roms start off, they all are very basic. it takes time to add things then test. you need to read the details a little better, and/or ask questions in the rom threads instead if just constantly posting questions here.

I want to ask questions in the ROM threads but XDA restrictions are not lifted. It doesn't let me post in the ROM threads.

I was going to use cm13 in my Xperia zr but Why can't I install gapps?build.prop not found in the rom. Please explain why I'm seeing this problem?I can't use Google services.
The CM13 Rom you are referring is in alpha stage. Bugs are expected and this may be one of them..
Thank you for your response.I didn't know that and also cm13 developer didn't mentioned that either. Is there the same problem with resurrectionRemix M rom that created by the same developer? Please response to this message.I really want to use Android M.
No, there is no such problem with RR, the camera is borken though.
And just an advice : Don't make pointless threads, try to use the threads which were made for the feedbacks and questions.
I apologize for that mistake and Never will happen again. And thank you for your reply.
