I have been using magnetic dock in my car with original nexus 5 and don't want to give this up. I'm afraid that sticking the magnetic plate inside a regular case will eventually destroy the back cover of the phone that is resting against the plate. Does anyone know of any case with built in metal plate for attaching to a magnetic dock or a two piece case that I can slide the magnetic plate between?
I saw the back is easily removable. I'm thinking of opening to put the metal plate in the back so that I may continue to use the device naked.

Had no issues. Opened up and placed the plate there and closed her up fine. Super light phone so holds securely

No scratches. I used a plastic tool that came with my screw driver kit. basically a flat end. got it separated a little around the charger port (careful to not grab at the charger it self) and once i saw a gap in the body put the tool in and worked my way around. a sturdy guitar pick would do it too. then snap it all back, and remember to snap right around the camera too.

I'll try to get the device back and take some pictures. Gave it away to a family member. Www really painless to do, but i understand the reservation. I'm use to tinkering even with a brand new item.

No cables were harmed in the making of this stand!
A mobile phone display stand, the back circular plastic was originally bent inwards to hold a phone in the vertical position.

The plastic was first heated and bent back flat and a hole was made to accommodate the PDMI connector.
Attached cable and glued into place.
PDMI connector flush with the stand.
Dell Streak in place, side view
Dell Streak in place, front view.
Switched on. shown in various views.
Nice stand.
it was a display stand was from a phone store, had to pester them for it. its worth asking in any stores near you.
here is my "Crap-Stand"... (made from crap I found in my desk)
I took 2 large binder clips and 3 rubber 'things' that I found in a drawer and once pieced together it made a great little stand
As soon as I can find a knife I'll open the lip of the middle rubber thingy so the cable can be attached while in the stand

your work is very nice!!
Good job in beating the million dollar stands there !!
Rest can always improvise with the ideas,
and work further up with HDMIs or speakering the docks.. (!?)
Nice work!

P.S. Sam,
a lil of matte paper wrap could make the look very classy too! (just a thought..)
Nice work again.

I really thought that apart from hdmi, why do we really need the dell dock? besides its better for our pocket if we can be resourceful and make use of what we have or can get for free.

How do you like this holder and belt clip combo?
WOW there's some nice stands in here, my slacker G2 dock still holds up and uses the usb mini cable to charge but I guess these are all good second options to consider.
I'm also considering the g2, do you currently have a case/silicone on your streak...if so, does it fit well or does it have to be removed?

i have begun to love this very much...
I had tried few others and dint like this.
THis one i am kind of having it on all the time.
Also when i use it on my belt it stays put together and not buldging out too much...
The downside i noticed is that putting it back on to the clip after i remove it from the clip attached to the belt is diffcult at times..
I also have an attachment for the holder from addon for my car
just got the g2 dock. i like it but i just hate having to take out my otterbox case to make it fit.

Here are some pics of the G2 Dock being used with the Streak. I had to remove the plastic around the connector on the top cover of the dock to get it to work with the TPU case. This is not enough clearance for the Otterbox case to work. Here's a video showing how to dissemble the G2 dock.
The Router stand is a nice idea!
There is a business opportunity here people!
Modded-Stands with a _out_ for HDMI and Nice Wood or Matte finish!
Can be aptly priced..
<As it is, most of us do have the HDMI cable already by now..>
And we have at least a hundred folks here who can use a really well priced stand/dock for our Streak_Machines !!
care,
Sony.
thought I should share my other cool stand..I got this from Target for 2 AUD. Its a business card holder. Does the job well, always have it on my night stand. The other one is the DLink Router Stand.
I purchased my Best Buy Pt case after seeing that it was the same as the Seidio Surface case but cheaper. My reason for buying it was that I want to be able to carry my Note 2 on my belt with a holster. My first impressions of the case were great. It slides on and locks on easily. The phone is very secure in the holster and the holsters clip is very sturdy.
EDIT: This method does work, it took a lot of effort and trying but it finally came off so I made an updated video with how to take it off. Thanks to sleebus.jones for posting it which made me try it again after trying many times before.
sleebus.jones said:
It's really easy to take off, if you follow this little tip.
When you want to take off the case, squeeze on the sides on the part of the case that doesn't have that half-moon thumb grip.(the upper part) With your other hand hold with thumb and middle fingers and push on the half moon with your index finger. Pull and it should come right apart. If it doesn't, push slightly then pull (all the time while squeezing on the top part of the case.)

I know exactly what you mean. I tried this case on my phone in a BB store (associate talked me into it). It went on very easily, but it was almost impossible to get off. I thought we were going to destroy my phone getting the case off. Crazy thing is that I bought it anyway (because of the price). Hopefully I won't have to take it off very often!

Little tip, try it on with your headphone. Make sure it didn't block you from making a full connection. Main reason I returned mine was because I couldn't and every movement would cause it to pop off.

I did that in the video I posted. Doesn't work for me.
Edit: after trying some more I was finally able to get it off with this method but it took a lot of effort. Once I did it once I put it back together and then tried to do it again and it was really hard again but it seems that after a couple of times it gets a little bit easier. I updated the main post with your quote and also made a video on how to remove it. Thanks!
Quick little update. It was bugging me how loose the belt clip was on my belt so I made a simple quick fix with little rubber sticky strips that came with my air conditioners. Now it doesnt move back and forth on my belt.

I have a case with a weird issue. Its grabbing my nexus 7 so tight that its squeezing the power button internally or something so screen goes off immediately after unlocking. It doesn't happen at all without case on. Gonna return it to amazon and grab a new one since I've been super clumsy lately and don't want to break my new toy. Any suggestions? Edit screen turning on and off appears to have something to do with light any ideas what it might be?

What kind of case is it? Many cases have a magnet in the lid, that should shut down the screen when the lid is put over the screen.
Some cheap cases also seem to have a bit too powerful magnet, so even if the lid is turned behind the screen, nexus 7 still detects it and shuts down the screen.
Does your case have a magnet?

Sorry, I didn't see this at first.
The Nexus 7 has a wake/sleep sensor, which is activated by the presence/absence of a magnet. As noted in the last post, if your case is compatible with the sensor, then when you open the case's cover, the N7 wakes up. When you close the cover, it will go to sleep.
(I wish I would go to sleep that easily!)

ah weird thought it had something to do with the lighting. then why was i able to duplicate the result by moving the camera around the ceiling fan light bulb? couldn't do it without the case on though so that has to be part of the cause. anyway i can't see a magnet but doesn't mean it's not embedded in there. this is the case by the way http://www.amazon.com/MoKo-Slim-fit...=1356622879&sr=8-1&keywords=moko+nexus+7+case
Alot of those cheaper cases use magnets that are too strong and flipping the lid over turns off the screen from the back. I owned a Blurex case just like that one and I liked it alot actually. Because of the design, I can't imagine it has anything to do with the power button.
Play with the lid, as I suspect that is your problem. You may be able to put a piece of tin-foil behind the N7 so the magnet's effect is tainted from behind. That or pick up a new case. I really liked that style of case as it felt very protected. I eventually moved to the Poetic slim case (iPad style) but the quality was disturbing. After a few weeks the plastic started to buckle and tear.
I ended up with a Portenzo Book Case that I like very much. It has a great feel to it, doesn't add bulk, and looks very nice. Overall it is holding up very well. The tablet is held in by 2 3M sticky pads. The top, bottom, and button-sides are exposed. The magnets were adjusted during initial releases and working perfectly.

:crying: Yes, first week of having the G'Note II it slipped out of my hand and landed on the corner and weird part was it didn't crack on the spot. The corner was scratched up and later I went to use the phone and the crack showed up. More likely it put pressure on the corner and cracked afterwards. I'm going to replace the whole screen and LCD, but will wait for the price to come down from $300.00 for the parts.
The orange color reminds me of the Dodge Charger car.

Hey guys.
For those of us who prefer the OEM flip case but want some drop protection, consider buying a cheap lariat and feeding it through the speaker hole on the back. Wear the lariat around your wrist when using the phone and if you drop it the phone never hits the ground.
The lariat also helps you to pull it our of your pocket if you are wearing tighter jeans.

I have the orange as well. I got it for 50% for registering my phone via Facebook. The orange is very odd. It's almost peach in bright lights. I find that the flip cover gets in the way most of the time. It is nice though. If you use a car mount.... get ready to hate the cover.

I wouldn't recommend you keep it on like that, I did that for awhile and eventually the piece started to bend. Instead feed it through the hole and tape the lanyard to the inside of the back cover, You won't see the tape when the cover is closed . Don't put too much though or the cover won't close. It's kept my phone from hitting the ground thus far. This was the lanyard I used http://www.ebay.com/itm/4X-NEW-T-MO...368729?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item336ab1ca99
I pressed the stylus and it didn't click. I pressed it harder and it sunk into the device...
Any ideas what might have happens or how I get it back out?
When I get home, I'll try and post a picture.
I had the same issue about 3 weeks ago. I tried several ways to attempt to pry it out but was afraid of damaging the phone. I took it to the local Sprint store and they swapped me out for a new device. They did not even attempt to repair it but went right to the back and pulled a new one out of the box.
How about this - put a drop of super glue on the end of a strong string. Touch the end of the string to the end of the pen. When it's dry - pull!??
Mines imported to the UK, so unlikely to get it swapped
Yeah, I'm wondering about something sticky to pull it out.
Is it easy to get a replacement from eBay? I've also thought about just sticking a pin in it and trying to pull. Maybe drilling a small hole in the stylus to hook something in and pull. Then just replace the stylus.
Mine is stuck because I work outside and it got dust in it so the spring will not work. The only way for me to get it out is to bang it and drop it on the corner of the phone on the carpet a couple times. (obviously with a case) Have you tried this?
If it helps, this is what it looks like -

The bottom left corner is what I used. This could work for you if it is a spring problem in the spen but if it is actually stuck in the phone then I doubt that it would work

Yeah, I don't fancy it myself either. I've sprayed some WD40 on it, but it doesn't seem to have helped. Looking to get the eBay seller to cover the cost of a new one, otherwise I'll just order a replacement. Looks like about $36 to ship to the UK. (About £25 for me)
UPDATE: I sprayed the end of the stylus with WD40, but not much seemed to change. I've been using a different phone for a day, come back to the Note 5 and the WD40 must have soaked in or something as it's almost as good as new.
I've done the same again, sprayed it and left it overnight and you wouldn't know there had been an issue now.

I know this device doesn't really have much metal in it, but please be careful of using wd40. It actually causes metals to rust once it's done doing its job. It's best to use brake cleaner or silicone lubricant.

Hi, thanks for the tip. I've only sprayed it on the stylus, but I guess it could corrode the spring inside?
Anyway, it's working for now at least!
