What is the possibility of doing so? No with 6.0 supporting it, and the moto x dimple supposed to have been one with connections there, does anyone know if and what would be necessary?
A fingerprint sensor designed to be there, and coding to make it work

Will the nexus 6 have wave-to-wake feature like the Moto X 2014?
If not by default then is it possible that it can have this feature in future by any means??
No, it does not have it by default.
There are apps that can use the proximity sensor with older phones to wake it up, so I imagine that at some point, yes, it will be possible to replicate the Moto X wave-to-wake feature via app.

Ok.. I hope it does happen...
I use this this feature frequently on my Moto X 2014. I will definitely miss it if I get a N6.
Here's the app I use on my Nexus 5. Assuming there aren't any issues running it under Lollipop, it has a setting that wake the phone with a wave. However, I'm not sure whether it will FULLY wake the phone, or let you just activate Ambient Screen. Maybe contacting the dev, and requesting an Ambient Screen setting would help.
Gravity Screen - On/Off
It wont by default - it is a moto specific software feature.
Begging or hoping it is added will do nothing, as the nexus is from google OS wise, and moto hasn't added that specific software (or hardware, see below) to it like the moto X.
Your best hope is 3rd party app that can give that capability, however that said, the phone would have to have the IR sensors like the X in order to detect the handwaving, which AFAIK it doesn't have.
Is this the same feature found in the note 2?

All modern smart phones have proximity sensors though, and third-party developers have tapped into those. The trick isn't the detection, it's the activation of Ambient Screen without fully waking the phone.
For instance, the Gravity Screen app I posted earlier will wake my N5 with a wave over the screen just perfectly, but it FULLY wakes the device. If they can alter that to give the option of waking the device, or only activating Ambient Screen, then it would almost perfectly emulate the Moto function.
Hey,
So after updating to 22.21.19 retde, I found the smart display feature, that is meant to keep the screen on when you look at the display, is no longer working. It is enabled and the test that is accessible from the options works and can successfully determine whether I look at the screen or not.
Can anyone confirm this behaviour under android L? It would be remotely possible this is an isolated case since I had to completely factory reset my phone for the update, to remove root. I am also rooted on the new build.
So, if you run the same version of Android L, I'd like to hear whether smart display works for you or not. Thanks in advance.
Yes it seems to be broken for now

You're not the only one.
It does work sometimes, others it simply ignore your face and dimm the brightness too fast.
I currently make an XDA application where I need to access the proximity sensor. I need help with information on which methods and data Android uses to access the sensor.
I know values in the SensorManager class show the proximity sensor readout but I am not sure whether this is what Android uses or there are other as well as I am not sure whether I can override these values to be visible to the whole system and to make sure there is no any app, such as the Phone app, which reads data from anywhere else, for example, directly from a hardware register.
Please, be kind to respond with what Android and the Phone app use to read the sensor.
Thanks.
I never played with Proximity Sensors but your post made me curious. Did you see this example?
ttp://androidbite.blogspot.com/2013/05/android-proximity-sensor-example.html
I have seen http://androidbite.blogspot.com/2013/05/android-proximity-sensor-example.html. This is a standard application which uses the proximity sensor as per the OS. I have tried standard ways to access the proximity sensor. They all work fine EXCEPT the most important thing : they cannot disable the proximity sensor when call is made or received. The phone application is very strong and does not seem to play by the standard rules. This is why I have to do something with Xposed. I am not happy to use Xposed also because people are not happy to install Xposed nor do they care to root their phones. However, there is no other way.
This is why I ask for information on data and methods used to access the information of the proximity sensor. Obviously, the lowest the level, the better, I. e. the closer to the HAL and hardware the better but any information is appreciated.
(solved: Decided to keep the post instead of deleting it in case someone else faces the same issue. So it was just broken scanners. Got a good one and it worked perfectly. So far no heating issue. So point is the over heating could only mean its a broken scanner and not a main board short or anything.)
So I got a used g6 with a broken screen and non working fingerprint scanner. Switched out the scanner but it gets extremely hot
and doesn't function. I'm wondering if the replacement scanner is broken or if something is wrong with the main board.
There is no other problems with the phone.
Also, I'm wondering how does android 8 handle hardware changes. Because when it was factory reset, it had the old
broken finger print sensor on it. So does android just ignore activating finger print scanner related files when its installed since it didn't detect the scanner? or
is the OS supposed to recognize the replacement scanner and make it work without any extra steps? Is there any way to tell the OS to look for hardware changes and install
needed system files? I'm looking for any expert help with this if you have clear idea what's going on. Thanks.
Hi there! I recently bought Xiaomi 12 Pro Gloabl MIUI 13 and I faced really annoying problem. The proximity sensor does not work and it did not pass the test. Allays shows 5.0 at the test no mater if the sensor is covered or not. And the real problem, the big one is face ID does not work at dark, like there is no IR at all and that is great issue for me, because this makes phone completely useless for me while traveling at night.
What I red the proximity sensor is virtual instead of hardware and it makes problems and user waiting for software solution for years. OK, but what about IR camera for face ID. Is it integrated in this phone or not. I find no answer.
Planning to switch to xiaomi.eu rom hoping for fix, but...lookin for solutions with golobal rom, because I use a lot of banking apps that I`m not sure if they work wit unlocked bootloader.
There is no IR cam, just the regular one.
That's not a 12 Pro only issue, most phones behave the same in the dark.
You can however use the fingerprint, so where's the point of calling the device useless at night?

The point is, when the phone is in holder I just tap on the screen and it unlocks by face ID immediately. That`s I have used with Mi8 till now. Fingerprint of 12 Pro is very slow compare to Mi8 and mostly unlocks with second try.
Well I have to adjust to new lack of hardware, but quite expensive Xiaomi

Try to register your finger a second time as an additional finger. This could help to speed up the recognition.
I faced proximity sensor problems with my 11T Pro but the 12 Pro is working great. I use the fingerprint which for me is lightening fast. Unfortunately without the front IR sensor, no photos going to work like iPhone when it comes to face I'd.

Hi did you try to move the phone towards your hand during the test? because this movement simulates the gesture of answering a call.
Enable double tap to wake, then unlock with index finger
PS Don't use phone while travelling
