I purchased a jailbroken AT&T Tilt 2 online but Im using T Mobile service and I was told that I wouldn't be able to access the T Mobile 3g Network with this device. Could someone verify that this true or if not can someone give me some tips on how to set it up on my device.
Its true, because I have a Tilt 2 unlocked to T-Mobile as well. Is there a way to get 3G speeds, I don't know. But honestly, I've never really noticed a difference. But then again, I do stay away from data heavy sites like Youtube and whatnot.
Hmm, interesting question. The main issue is whether the phone has the right bands to connect to the 3G network in question. Its a hardware issue, and either the phone has the right bands built into the chipset or it doesn't. There is no way to change this with software or by changing settings.
T-Mob uses 1700 and 2100 MHz bands, where ATT uses 850 and 1900 MHz bands. HOWEVER, the ATT branded Tilt 2 also has the 2100 MHz band for international use. If your T-Mob service area is on the 2100 MHz bands, its possible (if you area is on 1700 MHz, its not going to work no matter what). In theory, it SHOULD work. I've made many trips to Japan, which uses 2100 MHZ for both voice and data, and my Tilt 2 (and old Tilt before it) has always worked flawlessly on their networks.
But whether it really works or not, I have no idea. Searching around the net yields some posts on other forums asking the same exact question, with conflicting answers (perhaps somebody on here can enlighten?). My gut says, its either its going to work or its not, it shouldn't take any additional setup. Have you tried it yet?
But in short, it was a mistake to buy the ATT branded version. You should have bought the T-Mob branded Touch Pro 2.

The 2100 MHz band you're referring to is different on both companies' devices. For T-Mobile, 2100MHz is the upload frequency. The worldphone AT&T 2100MHz band is a download frequency. 3G requires 2 frequencies to operate in that manner.
The 2100MHz frequency is accompanied by the 1900MHz frequency for uploads. The AT&T Tilt2 has this frequency set to allow both.
As for Japan, I didn't know they were on the 2100MHz band. I've only every seen a couple of companies on 850, 1500, or 1700 MHz. Where were you that you used 2100MHz or which company? I just like to keep up on where the bands are useful when I make trips to Asia.

Exactly right. It's a hardware problem, not software as some people think. I seem to answer this question at least once a week here. lol The radio chip is different for each model of the Rhodium. That's one of the differences between the several versions.

It depends on what the network is set up as. 3G worldwide requires two bands to operate because of the bandwidth. GPRS and EDGE only require one. If this 2100 MHz frequency is one of the later, then it will work just fine. If this is a 3G band, then it is VERY likely to be paired with the 1900MHz frequency range. That's on GSM, anyway. I'm not 100% sure what CDMA frequencies are their.

I was wondering if enabling all WCDMA bands 850, 900, 1900, and 2100 of our i9000 phones would produce any bad effects or would deteriorate our phones or its parts?
I tried to enabled them in *#2263# and they seem to be persistent so i believe they are active. It was initially set as 900/1900/2100.

if you bought i9000T it's supposed to work with 850 what the others can't, that's from what I know..
I'm just not sure if it is really functioning or how to verify if the phone is really using the 850 or 900 wcdma band, or both (together with 2100 and 1900). AFAIK, wcdma's requirement is that at least 2100 is enabled, paired with another supporting band either 1900, 900, or 850. (tho just 2100 solo will also work but not as best if without another band to use)
I'm also wondering, if the original i9000 can support quad GSM and quad WCDMA, why is it that it is only set as tri-WCDMA only?
I guess my only concern is that if the phone's antenna system will be damaged if i enable quad band WCDMA (if it is really using it)

If you have checked with the Service manual and Schematics, some variants of Samsung Galaxy S lack the required PAM for the UMTS Band VIII (900) operation physically, while some lack the required PAM for the UMTS Band V (850) operation. Sure, we can flash it with the corresponding modem.bin, toggle "WCDMA 900 (FDD VIII)" and/or "WCDMA 850 (FDD V)" with our targeted Galaxy S variants in the Band Selection menu but it does not mean they will actually work in the "Quad-band WCDMA" as we would like.
Try to hook one up with a set of signal isolation box, signal generator and analyzer (R&S, Agilent, etc.), then you will find out our Galaxy S is capable of "Quad-band WCDMA" or not for sure. DO NOT get confused with the "Quad-band GSM"... "If it can do quad-band in 2G, then why not in 3G?" BECAUSE the it is handled by another set of PAM and FEM.
Nevertheless, most of us are doing fine in the EURO/RoW regions where most 3G networks are deployed in the UMTS Band I (2100). Unless we are heading to the rural or specific areas where only has got the 3G service in the UMTS Band VIII (900) only (AND we apparently must use the 3G service at the same time).

i'm thinking if it would be possible to extract files from, say, a Rogers (Canada) SGS for the 850, and combine them with euro for 900. I'm actually using XWJV1 (leaked gingerbread) and I got excited cause I see both options.

Like I have mentioned before, the software is just part of the puzzle. We can toggle all 3G bands showing in the Band Selection menu. In fact, I have played with a modified Galaxy Tab that even has UMTS Band IV (AWS) selected too! But in reality, it never works on the AWS band. The PHYSICAL hardware is the key. Without the right components, we are not going to make it happen.

Xperia Z3 (D6616) is supposedly headed to T-Mobile US as per reports. Not sure of Z3C though. I'm almost certain that you will be able to use its 2G if you bought it unlocked. It is better to check with T-mobile what 3G bands they use and then you can look up the spec sheet of Z3C to see if that band is supported.
I had once bought the Samsung Wave unlocked from abroad and used with T-mobile. Only 2G worked flawlessly. 3G was not supported.

Z3C is shown as coming soon on their US website. I believe all T-Mobile bands are supported except for band 12 which is only on D6616.

That's not true, the D6616 which is the T-Mobile version of the Z3 was customized for T-Mobile and has additional memory. It also supports different LTE bands than the other Z3 models.
The international Z3 Compact should work with T-Mobile but it will not have Band 12 LTE, and probably not work with WiFi calling or VoLTE.

Well, if you have a better answer than by all means you can answer his question. I was just taking a stab at it based off of good assumptions.
I don't believe T-Mobile is getting the compact version, check this http://developer.sonymobile.com/tag/d5833/ and notice the tags at the bottom, no mention of a D5816 which should be the model of the compact TMO version, if there was one, based on D6616 being the standard size version.
It looks like this phone will be compatible up to HSPA 21Mbit, GSM and Edge on T-Mobile. It seems to be missing the 1700/2100 AWS required for T-Mobile's 42Mbit "4G"

I think you may be mistaken. It supports the T-Mobile AWS bands, which are 1700/2100, at least on the D5803 model, which is what the UK retailers are supposedly selling. It shouldn't have a problem getting full 42mbps HSPA+ on T-Mobile's network.
Additionally, LTE Band 4 is the T-Mobile AWS LTE, so it supports that as well.
The only T-Moble frequency it doesn't support is the new 700Mhz stuff they bought from ATT (LTE Band 12), but they haven't done anything with that frequency, and likely won't for another year or so.

Yea I completely glossed over LTE Band 4, whoops. I thought to support 1700/2100 AWS UMTS the phone would have to support both 1700 Band 4 and 2100 Band 4 (which it only supports band 1 at this frequency), but I may be mistaken. And I appreciate you setting the record straight if I'm mistaken in that regard. :good:

I can understand the confusion.
Sony, and possibly other phone manufacturers, don't generally seem to list 2100MHz(IV) seperately, likely since it's "bundled" with 1700MHz(IV) for the purposes of the AWS compatibility. One without the other is largely pointless (I believe).
So by listing 1700MHz (IV), they're indicating that it also supports 2100MHz(IV). As an example of what I mean, look at the official frequency listing for the Xperia Z2, which is my current phone.

Thank you all for this info. Guys. I am really tempted to purchase the z3t over the z3 but I was really worried about using LTE connectivity. I have never owned a sony phone, just my galaxy s3 so this is definitely something new for me and I am ready to try something new. I was tempted to purchase from handtech but I think I will wait a week or 2 to make sure. It is said to be available in 2 days. I want LTE, this would be my first LTE experience.

No need to be concerned.
The Z3C definitely supports T-Mobile's LTE bands, except for the newly purchased 700Mhz stuff from ATT (LTE Band 12), but I wouldn't expect to see that rolled out anywhere sooner than 8 months to a year, and then it's probably going to be present only in very few areas.
Honestly, I don't think Band 12 will be a concern for another couple of years, based on the speed at which T-Mobile initially rolled out LTE.

I have a Z3C coming for use on T-Mo in the states (going from GS3 as well). I almost didn't get it because of the lack of compatibility with LTE Band 12, but then I saw where the Band 12 coverage will actually be. Frankly, it doesn't cover my area, so I decided since it is compatible with all the other LTE Bands to go for it.
There is a great map at TMoNews that shows you just where the Band 12 coverage will be, but I can't post links yet.

Hi all, I purchased nokia 6 (ta-1000) 2 months ago and was satisfied. Problem was i work in dessert area and my phone unable to use 4G band. After many research i found that this nokia 6 doesn't support other 4G bands except china country coz its chinese variant. so my question is does Nokia 8 have many variants too? If yes then can you all guide me? i as am planning to buy nokia 8 and dont want to end up having same 4G band problem like nokia 6.
I have the TA-1004 version. It works in Southeastern Europe with the 1800MHz LTE frequency my phone provider has, also tried it and it works on the 2600 4G frequency from another local provider.
These 2 are confirmed, but there's also the specifications info that the local seller has on the website, which includes all these band frequencies for 4g: 700 / 800 / 850 / 900 / 1700 / 1800 / 1900 / 2100 / 2300 / 2600
So I'm guessing TA-1004 should work with all of the above.

Go to your phone carrier's website and check what band frequencies it has for LTE/4G. Or a google search. That's what I did.
