Difference between customization versions - Xperia Z4/Z3+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any major differences between customization versions? The reason I would like to know is because my Z3+ is using the Hong Kong customization and I'm in the US. Although everything works fine, I can't access cell broadcasts to enable/disable emergency messages. I find that odd but my guess is maybe because of the customization version?
I'm trying to get info before I change customizations through FlashTool.

You mean the firmware country? Or the device model e6553 e6533 etc....
ANyway If you meant the country in the firmware you download then no it's fine you can roam around with whichever certain that suits you... Regarding the cell broadcast thing I think it's a chip frequency issue rather than just software but give it a try that'll surely put out all doubts

I'm referring to the firmware. My current firmware is 1294-9654 R12A, which is the one designated for Hong Kong.
The cell broadcast options should be something I could configure. I can't do that for whatever reason because there is no software included to do so. I'd like to be able to configure and choose to receive AMBER alerts and such.
I'll do some more research before flashing my Z3+ with US firmware.

I just flashed to 1294-9654 R5A, which is the customized US firmware from 1294-9654 R12A, which is the customized HK firmware. Before I did, I took screen shots of where I might find the settings to change emergency cell broadcasts and did a comparison. I got the idea that I might find the cell broadcast settings from this website:
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Heres-how-to-enable-or-disable-emergency-cell-broadcasts-in-Android-5.0-Lollipop_id63743
Here are my screenshots of the settings menu:

And I checked my Message app settings also:
There is no difference between the two firmwares when it came to the settings menus or message settings but I found that the customized US version came with a system app installed called "Emergency Alerts". This is what I was looking for.

It's ok just glad that it worked for you, although if all you wanted was am app you could've just downloaded it's apk.

Free SMS App (Wifi)

I'm looking for the best app to send free sms messages over wifi (without a phone plan). If it matters, I'm in Canada. Any good apps for this?
Kik Messenger
why not using WhatsApp?
Do those apps provide sms texting to phones without that app installed, or is it just a messenger? I'm looking for one for sms texting to all phones.
Google Voice app for SMS
and
GrooVeIP for free calls

Google voice is a safe bet
free SMS to US and Canada. And since it's written by google I would trust it more than a random "free SMS" app on the market that might spy on you and/or drain the battery.
It also gives you a phone number so that you can receive SMS.
The only downside is that you will need to use a US proxy to register since it's not officially available in Canada.
HeyWire
I use this app before until they decided to limit the supported countries and Philippines is not one of them.
Lucky you, Canada is supported, you'll have a real US number that others can reply to.

I looked into this, but even if I use a proxy to sign up, it will give me a US phone number. Doesn't that mean people will be charged for international texting if I use this number to text people in Canada?

Same question as above. Won't a US number mean international texting charges will apply if I were to use that app to text people from Canada?
Anyone...?

[Q] firmware from samsung site

I can't say why, but I have access (legit!...office dealer)to samsungs GSPN site that has drivers, manuals firmware to everything samsung makes.
If you can tell me which "version" of the note we have, I can poke around for firmware/driver etc.
I see versions like this...
GT-N7000ZBAABS
GT-N7000ZBAAFG
GT-N7000ZBAAFR
GT-N7000ZBAALO
GT-N7000ZBAAMN
GT-N7000ZBAATL
GT-N7000ZBAATO
GT-N7000ZBAAUT
GT-N7000ZBABGL
GT-N7000ZBABRI
I have no clue which one to look for. I know my phone is a "DST" german
phone, but I couldn't find a match with zbadst, or just dst.
If you have a clue, or think my poking around might find something useful, just let me know.
as far as I know, GT-N7000ZBADBT would be the German Note, but I think any driver you can share would help the community ;-)
Looks like I have access to drivers, manuals, firmware, so if you need one, just ask, I'll look around and see what I can find.
download everything bro... before you lose access
I second that. START DOWNLOADING!

Sounds too perfect to be true.. But anyway: If you got access to the source code of the drivers, you'll be the hero of the Note Development Community
So. Anything yet? Or was this just a bunch of bull****?

The files show they are there, but when I click it, I don't get a listing of the files like I do for the office equipment when I'm looking for firmware for it.
Not sure if I'm locked out, or if these are just place holders.
Here is a screen shot from just a few minutes ago.
I can download the manuals, but I haven't been able to snag any modems, drivers or anything else...yet. Clicking on some of these models (22 pages worth) shows newer file dates. Some as recent as last week.

Anyone get a C6906 from Nergi Eletronics?

Ordered this weekend and got my phone today, got it crazy fast, unfortunately get a prompt to enter a code because the phone is sim locked even though Nergi stated it was unlocked? They told me I have to wait a few days now for them to get the unlock code, very depressed. Phone seems amazing and I can't use it. Went to ATT and got a new SIM card and all, still wouldn't work.
Anyone find a way to get their phone unlocked quicker? I'd rather not wait the 2-3 days Nergi told me it would take.....
Does the one you got seem to be sim locked to a canadian carrier since that's the only country with c6906 officially? any carrier branding on it? Keep us updated on how it goes I was interested in buying from them as well since it's available cheap to the US.
I got a c6906 a day ago.purchased from an eBay seller.
I am using it on straight talk.
One thing I noticed is when I have to restart the phone, it would say "orange ". Guess that would be a network carrier for some country.
Not sure if I can remove that branding or not.

Orange is European - they don't operate up here in Canada.
Are you certain your phone is C6906 and not C6903?

The keyboard seems to want to default to Canadian English, so it seems to be sourced from there. Kind of annoyed they didn't have unlock codes ready. Now Nergi is telling me end of the week. Paid for overnight shipping too :crying:

Which model & carrier (SIM Card) are you using & what is the latest update revision (build number)?
Perhaps update the OP w/that info & others who may have your phone model & carrier will see this & have a solution.......
Only other thing I can suggest is remove/re-install the SIM Card, see what happens......

Glad to hear everything is working, less the network/signal strength indicator.
Yeah more a aesthetic thing. The first thing I checked was the apn. Then the sim the reset network settings then factory data reset with no luck. I think my next move is to let Samsung know. The few moments I used my phone before update the signal bars did work.

I noticed the usa unlocked ones show less bars but still the true db via Network signal information app. I think the branded ones have software to make customer feel good about the "bars". Lol

N9600 Wifi Calling & VoLTE enabled without root!

Hi folks,
Just discovered today that the newest software update on N9600 enables the Wifi Calling and VoLTE with my TracFone T-mobile SIM card!! I found this because when I was on the call it says "HD" on the screen, which I only saw on US version phones before.
My Dual SIM N9600 (likely from Hong Kong) has never been rooted or flashed with any CSC file. It's in its pristine official status except for the OTA updates every month. I remember that the VoLTE option was not available before this update, whenever I was trying to tap the "VoLTE" icon in the drop down menu it said "VoLTE is not available for this software version" blahblahblah. The June update is 500ish MB which I thought was bulky but didn't know why (in the What's New section of the update info it's just some very generic bs like improved performance and latest security patch)
I'm soooo excited about being able to use my phone on wifi with airplane mode on!:laugh: also the HD voice is really nice.

This is seriously great news. I've been planning to get a dual sim (exynos / snapdragon) so that I don't have to carry 2 phones (currently Note 9(960U1) and Note 5. One on T-mobile and another one on Mint mobile.
Would you please do a speedtest (speedtest.net app) on LTE/Data and post the screenshot. I am hoping the speed is good and if so Google Voice will work with out issue which is one of my requirement. I really don't like to go down the root/custom rom/CSC change route if I can avoid it.
If I buy on eBay, returning once opened will incur 20% or 25% restocking with the vendors I've shortlisted so like to avoid that.
Thanks much!
i see your on the TGY rom same here but in the latest update they have disabled it again!? now it says "volte is not supported by your current software version" are you experiencing this?
