Build quality is good. And yes, compared to other phones it's somewhat thick. But still easy to handle. Then again: it's a cheap phone!

Motorola didn't, but CyanogenMod did!

Thanks to all you guys!
The reason I'm going to the 2nd gen is because the 3rd gen isn't available in my country.
And it has front-firing speakers!

Does CyanogenMod for the Moto G (2014) support Dual-SIM functionality?
Also, is there a stock firmware available online for the XT068 (Dual-SIM) in case I wanted to go back to the original ROM?

Both questions: yes! But if you're new to this: read all the instructions and warnings here on XDA carefully!

Nah. I'm not new to this. I've installed CM and flashed ROMs on my previous Android smartphones.
Thanks a bunch bro!

I was thinking about getting a Moto X due to having an mf3 locked down bootloader. However, it looks like the development is completely dead for this device. Is the bootloader completely locked down for the AT&T version? Just wondering why these forums are so dead. What about rooting with 4.4.2? Thanks

They're dead because the stock software is just that good. There is no real need to hack it up because it's fine as it is.
That's what I figured.. Is there any problems with rooting 4.2.2?

Use RockMyMoto for 4.2.2. Use SlapMyMoto if going to 4.4.
So with the new 4.4.2 slap my Moto works perfectly rooting the phone?

Yes, but he's asking about root. If he's flashing 4.4.2 ROMs, he's already rooted and it's a moot point.
Has anyone tried the sunshine app on the new moto x? Mainly asking Verizon users. Thinking about trying it because it does clearly say it will work on some 4.4.4 devices.

Not yet, they just recently added Moto G, supposedly they are currently working on Moto X 2014
There is support for first gen moto x but the website and the thread you directed me to makes no mention of the 2gen. moto x.
It says it MAY work on some 4.4.4 devices and to go ahead and try but I don't want to break anything. I'll let someone else be the guinea pig.

I just tried the app to see the error message. Answer is no..you have to at least be rooted for the app to have a chance. Right now there is no root method for this device :/

It doesn't work on 2014 X. The "some 4.4.4 devices" it worked on previously had root and lost it (that I can tell).
Is it possible to develop this ROM for our device anyone?
Sent from my Moto G 2014
Of course it's possible, only someone has to have the time to solve all errors (if any come up) and build it

You can fast travel to it by clicking here.
Ok so now that some people have unlocked the bootloaders im sure people have questions like which roms are safe and what recovery can we use that are safe for our beloved device , so can anyone direct me on where to go?
I installed twrp on my phone and flashed stock 6.0 xt1095 firmware (I don't need cdma, only gsm matters to me so I don't care).
Stock 6.0 is really smoother, faster and I believe that battery life is better either because of doze.
You can also flash cm 13 but it's not that stable right now.
Is CM 12.1 safe on the XT1096?

Yes, and currently more stable than CM13.

Currently on Nexus Experience 6.0.1, data seems to be broken tho
CyanPop has been running awesome on my phone, with the exception of the video recorder working. It's a very customizable and refined rom.

Does data work?
CM13 nightly works just fine on my XT1096 (Google Fi Data SIM)
Running CM13 Nightly Builds on my xt1096 and data is working fine though it does says my signal is T-CDMA 64 instead of verizon.
Just be extra sure, when you say CM 12.1 or 13 is safe with the XT1096 you mean it's compatible with Verizon's CDMA network?
Everything is fine here , just had to change a few apn settings I have a straight talk sim inserted

thats a gsm rom how did you do it please...
I'm having trouble finding stuff specific to XT1096 and have a few questions if anyone is able to answer:
Is it now possible to root stock 5.1 updated via OTA?
Do all victara roms work on this variant?
Is there a stock rooted 6.0 rom available so soon?
Is there a link to recoveries?
