[Guide] Improve battery life on marshmallow without any compromise on performance. - Android One (First-Generation) Cross-Device Genera

ya like many of you, even i had mixed experiences with battery life after marshmallow update. With doze being the new feature in M, battery drop during standby time was almost 0-1%. However, every now and then my phone refused to doze and would stay always awake. After testing several kernels with various governors and different battery saving techniques, i think, i might have hit the sweet spot (max battery life with ultimate performance).
Here's my settings..
1. Kernel : CODY Kernel 3.10.90
Governor : Performance
io scheduler : cfq (1024)
the kernel can be found here..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63345022&postcount=32
Please Hit thanks to the developer.:good::good:
2. Install Doze settings editor app
It can be found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/root-doze-settings-editor-android-t3235130
after installing the app use the settings that i have posted in screenshot
Please Hit thanks to the developer of doze settings app.:good::good:
3. Optional(Install Greenify only to hibernate rarely used apps)
I got 4hr of Screen on time (average), you could get even more if you change governor settings. But for me performance matters the most so i am using performance governor which keeps cpu freq always to 1300MHz.
Please hit thanks if it helps you in any way, its the least u can do. :good::good:
If anyone has any better tips then please contribute (Be together, not the same)

Xposed is now working for MM so we can get more battery life with amplify installed.
trying and testing all the tweaks takes lots of time and people dont even press thanks , hence i wont write long post with details explaining all the tweaks
All i can say is that i am getting almost 5 hrs of Screen on time.

Will try and give feedback in a few weeks

I'm actually planning to do the same today. I don't really care for Google services anymore. I use this as backup phone. Let's see how everything goes on Android without "Google". :fingers-crossed:

Yeah everything is fine without google but some apps keep annoying by asking to enable play services

i verified this technique and sure it gives alot of backup than ever before. As i was facing serious draining issues(50-60% battery drain overnight while nothing was done with the phone) this method now makes my sparkle v last a whole day with 20-25% battery left at 8 pm. I also identified that mediaserver, mtkrild and logd were constantly eating my cpu when idle and drained 60-70% battery. After flashing Cody kernel, everything seems to be working fine. Fingers crossed for now...

But the miscellaneous is still too high compared to lollipop where it would be around 20-30%. That is the main power consumer in marshmallow where it takes up almost double the amount. Any way to stop that?

Miscellaneous battery drain is just unaccounted drain. Just change ro.build.type=user.
If u change ro.build.type to userdebug only then u can see miscellaneous drain (its actually hidden).
Just check this post to understand more about miscellaneous battery drain.

More battery drain when using sd card as internal storage
I am experiencing even more battery drain if I use SD card as internal storage (Android 6.0 "adoptable storage" feature. It is draining too fast even with battery saver turned on. If I reboot into safe mode, the drain is considerably slower (but still much faster than lollipop).
Can anyone verify this? I think the main problem is with the doze and the screen stays awake all the time.
BTW, In this Guide first two option requires root which requires zeus kernel according to the other guides posted here. So that mean for Android 6.1.1 I have to revert to stock rom.

on my phone, "mtkrild" and "logd" constantly runs in the background which drains almost 60-70% of my battery. Any ways to solve it?

[Q] Help with CM11 based ROMs ! Low performance and battery drain

Hello to all,
I have two problems that are almost making me go back to stock 4.3 ROM
The first is related to the battery, the android system appears first with 25% + battery drain, and in most cases equal to or greater than the battery consumption of the screen! This makes my battery does not pass a day, and the stock I went much further (without STAMINA MODE).
The second issue is regarding the performance measured by AnTuTu. I know that does not mean much, but in the STOCK I get 25.5k and I read out there that people also manages the same in CM11 LBL (the MrSteve555 and also bagyusz), I do not understand why I can here the maximum 22.5K .
Independent of ROM I have put the same results. Tested in all versions of MrSteve555 and in the last two of bagyusz. Also tested in the PAC-man RC-1 neXus PRIME, same result and battery consumption.
In all ROMs I wipe system, data, cache, dalvik cache.
Does anyone have any idea how to solve this? I am discouraged because I love the CM11.
Ps: I use .207 kernel and I've tried with .205 also, same result. (I have LBL)
Damn what is that screenshot supposed to show?? 30 minutes off charge and it is at 99%!!! It's obvious that the screen consumption will be minimum, it was on for a minute or so probably... I know that usually android system drain is higher in cm than stock but you should compare your battery stats at the end of the day...
Please reset the counter by tapping on the trash icon on the activity bar. Then please post a screenshot after hours of usage. This will enable other people to properly interpret your battery stats.
Some tips though, you will most likely encounter a slight battery drain while using custom ROMs. This is due to the fact that stock ROM and custom ROM works differently. You might actually having a normal drain than a supposedly "bad" one.
By the end of the day will be the same... Anyway I will post later.
I attached new images for better understanding.
Does anyone have any idea?
Firstly, Antutu scores mean sh*t...
In the past I've had allot of ROMs with very bad Antutu scores which performed much better in terms of speed and general user experience than a standard ROM with higher Antutu score.
Furthermore, install better battery stats or any other wakelock detector app to see what is draining your battery. The pictures you are showing us now don't help at all.
I've exactly the same problem, android consumes always more than 25% battery too...

As I mentioned above, you need to identify what is causing the wakelocks first. Untill then there's absolutely no solution that can be presented to both of you.
By pointed by Gamm86, it might be due to wakelocks. Once the wakelocks are found, you may use Greenify to hibernate that rogue app. When the app is selected within Greenify, you will find it easier to see the wakeup path and cut it off through Greenify.

It's not always apps themselves that cause wakelocks.
Background services related to phone or app settings are usually the culprits, meaning greenify won't resolve all wakelocks.

yes I understand. Hmm i believe you are more experienced in this matter. Would you tell me how to stop those wakelocks that caused from other services? I would really appreciate that, cause I find many people solve this problem but they never did expose where they learn from or the methods they use. and yea, I've googled but I got nothing

Use Disable service app. Check which wakelock is occurring and disable that service.
Or get the donate version of unbounce and delay the wakelocks like every hour or so.
I already use Greenify and hibernate all apps that are not chat, not solved.
I also noticed that while I sleep and the phone remains idle the android system does not consume a lot of battery, something around 6%, but when you turn on the screen and the phone is active it starts to drain. So the problem is not in the wakelock, but elsewhere.
I'm using the applications suggested to post new screenshots later.
I used the apps for a day and I'm posting the screenshots of the result ... the system keeps draining and I don't see any information that would help me on the images.
Anyone have any ideas?

I'm on MrSteve555's CM for LBL and was also wondering why I was getting a much lower AnTuTu score than stock. Then I discovered that I get 22.5K scores WHEN CHARGING and 25.5K scores running off the battery!

I have noticed the same issues on all 4.4.x based roms (slimkat, pac, PA etc.). The only fix i found was to disable the automatic screen brightness. After disabling it the system_server service became normal and Android System dropped to 9-8% of overall battery consumption.
Good luck

Battery Drain?

Recently my nexus 6 has been having pretty poor battery life. It estimates about 5 hours left on a full charge when before I would have close to double that. Im running franco kernel r25 on stock android 5.1 build LMY47I. I've heard the new google play services update could be a problem too.. which is version 7.0.99 if that helps. Please, any help would be great. Thanks!

There are lots of settings but wakeloc detector will tell you real quick what's going on. After that we can go from there. Also you might update to Franco's test build r26, its a couple pages back in his thread. I think it fixed a few wake issues.

franco himself said that build would not effect wakelocks in anyway. It just modified the idle loop in the cpu scheduler to allow the cpu to idle easier.

I thought I had seen the opposite posted in his thread. Could be wrong though.
just copy and pasted his post. At least thats what I got from this post.
"If you wanna test a new feature of r26 which is a patch from upstream that instantly idles (idle is not offline, it's a shallow power state when there no jobs running on the core to preserve energy) if a core is running with <= 1 job instead of going through a idle_balance() loop which goes on to decide if the core should or shouldn't enter idle, and it's not cheap. With this patch it also reduces the overall load_average since it reduces idle_balance() calls by 75%. In theory it should improve battery life. boot.img attached
I don't have numbers, but I sent the patch to imoseyon and he's already testing it. With your help we'll get some pretty numbers soon. This is completely agnostic of wakelocks, so if you have them, you're on your own, like you always are."
This is what you want see in wakeloc detector. As close to 0% as you can get. Just find out what's running/waking up and start working on stopping those.
Wakelock Detector is great but I honestly like Better Battery Stats better myself. Look for the XDA version on here, it's free

I know a ton of people love gsam, but whenever I've tried using it, it just gave me that bloated app feeling. If it works for you that's all that matters.
I use gsam also just to check how things are running. Greenify once wakeloc detector tells me what's going on.
I downloaded an app called battery doctor and that has helped a lot. Going on 31 hours with moderate use
But google play services is one of the things draining the most of my battery.

I too feel like I'm struggling to get passed 1 day with really hardly any use. My phone sits on my desk most of the day and I peek at it if it goes off. Most of the time when I do get a notification, I check my gmail on the PC, as well my messages via Verizon Messages (though I still use Hangouts on the phone). It never fails by the time I get home, I'm usually around 40% battery and I feel like I've hardly touched the device all day.
I've download WLD which I've used on previous devices so hopefully I can post back after today and see what's draining my battery.

CPU usage always 40-70%

Hi
Why my Z3 Compact always use a lot of CPU usage even all apps closed??? it makes my phone overheating and my phone never go sleep with screen on/off and idle. for other phones, CPU usage always 1% when in idle. i uninstalled and frozen all bloatware apps but it's not helping. my phone is running lollipop 5.1.1 (latest)

Just follow the OP's guide as closely as you can (post #3 & 4) - I only installed Greenify, Amplify & BBS and I omitted Power Nap as I use Sony's Stamina mod.
If you cant find some of his suggestions/items then thats because you dont have them, so no worry.
Once you have completed the guide make a log/dump (at the bottom of post #4) and the experts/OP will view it and assist you where necessary -really amazing support on the site
I am also using @moly82's AiO v2 debloat ROM slightly modified and together with above I have ZERO battery drain over night/idle - you can check my log/dump on the site.
PS: I know of lately I have been 'pushing' @vaisakh7's Extreme Battery Life thread whenever possible like it is the fix-all solution. Probably it is not
but it made a HUGH impact on my battery life and really feel everybody should give it a try - if for nothing else than just to streamline the phone's
kernel/alarms & battery-wise.
apart from when idle/overnight, you noticed battery improvements when phone is active too? will check it btw seems a very well done battery saver tutorial

Battery sucks!

I have several forums with recommendation on how to fix my Android system and OS battery drain. Nothing has worked. It got so bad that I bought a Pixel 2, but not impressed so I'm returning it. I'm rooted with stock OS, just installed Elemental kernel, but still nothing has helped. Can anyone point me in the right direction??

How can you not be impressed with a Pixel 2? It's only downside is the screen, and that's only for the XL. Mind elaborating what your issues with it are? Because my father is planning to get it, and he asked me to check on it.
Onto your original question, have you tried installing an app like Accubattery to check your draining areas?
Try checking your wakelocks, they may be causing an issue too.
Install OOS from a fresh start, wipe your internal and data if you can, from the cleanest flash you can do, and then monitor your battery life. Don't forget to check your battery health too, because some people overlook it.
Try the newest Open Beta, users say there's better battery life on it.
Cheers!
IDK. Pixel just too small I guess. Software was good. Just wasn't impressed enough to justify keeping over the 3t. Maybe if I was priced similarly to the previous Nexus phones.
Anyway I have tried all your suggestions. Wakelock detector hasn't worked on Nougat since I've had it. BBS doesn't really say what the issues are either other than Android system and OS. I think 4.1.3 was the last version that was good on battery for me, since then been terrible. Amplify didn't work with Xposed either. I want to rule out software issues before looking into replacing the battery.

This is different set of kernel settings to improve performance or battery life or have a balanced setting. I am using it with Boeffla kernel, OOS 4.1.6, with CPU governor set to impulse and touchboost disabled (with the Boeffla app). Kernel Auditor is also installed with init.d emulation enabled and used KAT with the "Project X.A.N.A Extrem Battery" profile. So far I could not find any disadvantage an battery life seems to be slightly better...
Just one more comment... The download link in the forum takes you to the 1.2 version, which is not the final 1.6 that the name of the link suggest, so you should go to the old versions/flashable zips and download 1.6 from there...

Take a look at how long you had the wifi turned on in relation to your screen on time.
Wifi is keeping your phone awake when it shouldn't.
Settings, wifi settings, advanced thing, then "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" -> only when plugged in or off
Settings, location, 3 dot menu, and turn both scanning options off. Problem solved.
Be careful about Google Maps, because it prompts you to turn the latter 2 option back on when launching it. Say no.
Whoa. Something is keeping your phone up far too long.
This is what my sleep looks like and that's with 4G and WiFi always on...
try a custom rom that is more focused on stable performance and battery life such as lineage. You can further improve ur battery by adding gmsdoze magisk modules and greenify4magisk
im surprised that ur not impressed by the pixel though....

Here are some screenshots. Also included battery from settings. Wakelock minimized, but Android system very high in comparison. I ordered new battery should have next week. New Beta 17 released, maybe that will improve it too. Bte I'm using AKT profiles and using XANA profile.

We need the analysis from the Android category in Alarms tab.
Inside there are some alarms that can create an issue.
Unleashed by ONEPLUS 3T rooted
I flashed the Beta 17. We'll see how it goes. If I have to downgrade I post a screenshot of my alarms in Android system.

Question Critical battery drain

Hello
Yesterday i had the phone around 65% at 01h00, in the next morning (around 7h20) i wake up to find the phone at 1%, no wifi/4G/bluetooth/GPS...etc was active, even the battery saver was ON. As you can see in the screenshots, android system drain battery around 400% !!! what's up with this behavior ? happened the 1st time last week (49% drained in 8 hours) the problem seems gone after i fully charge and than reboot, but still today happened.
The phone is almost 1 month old.
The 1st few days, i disconnected the phone from charging at 100% and went to sleep, after 6 hours battery is drained by 6% without doing nothing. is this normal ??? screenshot
ROM : crDroid 8, latest magisk installed+microg+magiskhide props config and fdroid/aurora modules installed.
Thanks
which rom are u using now? stock or custom?

clearly something is going wrong, I would suggest factory resetting, and optionally reinstalling your custom rom.

well, that must a bug related to optimiztion of the rom, report it to the rom mantainer
Exactly what happened to me same ROM same phone but I didn't root it. it drained from 54% to 6% during the night, next day I switched the ambient display off and the battery became better but so far I am also looking for solutions to make it similar to miui
I feel the battery is draining so much fast when I start using the apps unlike miui but the room is also great and fast , with my light use it gave me 1 day of use and remaining of 10% with 120 fps (3.3%/hr screen on and 0.6%/h screen off )
today I will test it with 60fps

No, only when charging of course (around 40°)

I'll wait and see if this bug happens again as right now i need the phone for the rest of the week, if happens again i might switch rom altogether on the weekend.

Wow, 3.3%/hr is seriously impressive for active drain, especially for 120hz. Can I ask you if you did anything special / your exact setup? I installed Ricedroid 8.0 + Sleepy kernel and applied the GMS Doze module + Naptime (as suggested by a kind poster on here), and this allowed my idle drain to go down to 0.2%/hr, but my active drain is still struggling a bit.

to be honest I am not sure if I report it correctly I have used accubattry app but I will post few screenshots from the app and you can see , I didn't do anything except disable the ambient display maybe my usage is light in default I don't know I also formatted the phone like 20 times during my testing for different ROMs. I found Cr-droid to be the best so far or miui

Ohh the 3.3%/hr is combined use, which takes account of both active drain and idle drain (through what I guess is some weighted average). But honestly, 6.7%/hr (or even 7.8%/hr tbh) is still pretty damn impressive, so I'll thank you for letting me know! Now I wanna flash crDroid haha.

I spent 1 day and half trying all custom roms in this forum because for long time I was on miui and didn't know how custom ROMs are now , after trying I found that all custom ROMs either are pixel flavored or very basic without any customization and I settled with Cr-droid because it offers best of both worlds less google and good customization options.
now regarding the battery after few days of using on 60 fps I have combined use 2.4%/hr and 0.8% screen off but I still feel that it drains fast during my usage compared to Miui , I have only used naptime for optimization do you advise me to add anything else for non-rooted device ?

MIUI very often switches off alarm (not clock alarm) and wakeups -- it's known for long. Your notifications often comes late when using MIUI. In real life situation, however you might never notice it, but it's there. It also sets higher priorities to known messaging, social media apps to receive notification/action faster than any apps that are outside "the list".
It's a good trade off for battery life compares to stock AOSP or lineage which put every apps on generic list of "optimized battery" based on your pattern. It will took a long before the pattern is useable.

I'm not sure about your possibilities on a non-rooted device honestly. I think Naptime can work on a non-rooted device, if you grant a few permissions through ADB first (if I remember correctly, the app itself will guide you through the process). Be mindful of which apps you're restricting though, as Naptime will likely cause delays in the arrival of notifications. You can whitelist apps through Android's battery restriction screen.

yes I am it currently after activation via ADB it made some improvement I felt , so far the highest consuming system apps are : Android OS [19%] screen [9%] and System UI [6%] can I do something about them ?

Hmm I don't have any further tips honestly, not about these specific things. In my case, using Naptime already improves battery life by a ton over the course of a day (not wasting entire %s in hours of idle time is already huge).
Try and see if greenify or its replacements helps.
