Just a poll,
Since the release of knox to the consumer. And the fact it's affecting many people with warranty and ability to use custom rom or kernels without having further issues on their mind.
Will this affect your decision on buying the phone or not?
Please don't start with the 'your in the s5 forum so there's your answer' this is a pre-release forum.
Stick to the topic a simple yes or no with an explanation is enough

I'd have to think about it, KNOX has no use for me personally but at the moment I've got GPE rom on my S4 and I'm liking stock android. I'd have to see what the S5 offers in terms of features and such before I decide whether to upgrade or not and see what the competition offers I'm in no rush this time as the S4 is still a very good phone.
Knox is an immediate no for me. Att note 3 and locked bootloader is a nightmare in my opinion.
I guess for the normal consumer it's fine, us rooters and flashers have no need for it though.

Modders will find a way to root without tripping Knox. They always do.
I hate Knox! It's keeping me away from getting a samsung device

If the bootloader is locked Samsung and At&t can suck it.

well since i left my S4 for the G2 i will not go back, my Verizon s4 with a locked bootloader was annoying. I traded someone my S4 for the G2 with a cracked screen and bought a screen and fixed it. Also with devices with locked bootloaders its going to limit the development for custom Roms and what not.
Why the heck would I ever upgrade to a product that forces me to use their crappy, bloated ROM making it either impossible or very difficult to change out for my needs? No, Samsung has not even heard us in our cry for a more friendly phone that we F'ing own. LET US CUSTOMIZE OUR OWN STUFF! There's a reason their sales are dropping too. Like me, other IT professionals are recommending other brands that don't force push updates that can either brick (talking about a completely stock non-rooted, non-loki'd GS4), or turn the phone into a hand held heater.

Nobody is forcing u to do anything.. u can buy it, root it, install custom roms. Just ur warranty will be void like the case with all other OEM. Remember that samsung devices have unlocled bootloaders which makes it easier. I dont understand whats ur problem?

After having the s2, skyrocket, s3, and s4, the Knox implementation has made me make the switch.

I just bought a nexus 5 and retired my at&t s4(it was MDL build so I can flash custom recoveries/kernels). I don't know if I'll get an s5 or not. Probably not and I'll wait to see the g2 pro or the g3.

Nop.. I ditched my S4 for a G2.. Samsung was great back in the S2 S3 days. Thing about it is that Samsung is doing things for us harder and you know that future updates and with the S5 it will be harder than KNOX.

The fact you may be refused warranty for hardware faults for having a custom software and also considering the option to resell in the future. Where the next person may require the device for enterprise it would not be possible due to the tripped flag

I'd say samsung instead of trying to convert its devices into enterprise devices and fail the way blackberry did, they should separate the consumer line from enterprise. The fact that the knox flag can't be reverted back is dumb as it is. Surely, they can have their own "warranty" flag and void warranty based on that, but when the warranty flag is also the "enterprise" flag it becomes kind of absurd. Because the user can simply revert to official software and be eligible for enterprise security regardless of the ROM/Kernels that have been run in the past, only as long as he is running stock stuff. Yet, tripping knox makes the device not eligible for the enterprise.
Like st3chn0 said, warranty should not be related to the device being eligible to participate in a knox enterprise environment.
Or at least that's what I get from it, if you can still use knox on an enterprise with the knox flag tripped, then I stand corrected.
whats better? Google nexus 5? or Samsung s5?
Problably not, its not about Knox itself its more about the trend of locking my... Hardware down. If they want to to do that I like them to have two lines, I think they will loose sales if they loose the community.
I won't buy and probably not my friends, the phone of the day is mostly about mouth to mouth commercials
Sent from a mobile Gadget...
I've realised in the way the xda community moves same happens to the wider community after a while maybe a year or two later..... Though Samsung may not feel the effect of people of this community leaving they will in the future
With phones these days it really has become a thing like sheep where one follows another.. I remember having the first galaxy whilst everyone else had been either with HTC, I phone or blackberry now I barely see anyone with one of them around

I'm buying it, KNOX didn't slow me down on the GN3 and honestly it was the first device I didn't root or worry about rooting. Was a great device overall.
Nexus 6 for me. FU Samsung and any other company with a locked bootloader.

But they don't have a locked bootloader. Carriers lock the bootloaders, not samsung :\
Looking forward to going back into rooting my phone again with the Note 4 so far being such a delight out the box. For screen recording & tethering with no T-Mo oversight I also wanted to know if there was anything to be aware of as far as any popular apps or even default apps that shuts down when it notices that root is active or Knox counter is tripped.
Also curious if any rooting methods is out there that either avoids tripping the Knox counter or if Knox counter can otherwise be changed somehow.

We have Knox on this phone.
NOTE 4
Why are we so hard on people even though they sometimes ask question that we think are noob type question.
To answer the question and I can only speak for myself is that there are no down sides to rooting...at least for me. The only down side I see is tripping Knox, but most of us that are on xda could care less about Knox tripping. I won't buy a phone that can't be rooted.
Just my opinion!!

True.. Been in the game since the G1 days but would never be a dickhead towards people. Maybe it's just me but I haven't rooted my N4 yet but I sure you will trip up Knox. Even though they (developers) always find a solution to most problems
I think he is aware Knox is on this phone being he asked if there is a way of avoiding tripping Knox.

Towelroot on the Tmobile S5 didnt trip Knox but if you plan on flashing a custom recovery or insecure kernel then plan on tripping it . My advice is that if you have Handset protection is not to worry about tripping Knox . Nothing Voids handset protection even throwing your phone at the wall . It does Void the manufacturer warranty though but 99% of the time Tmobile handles it and replaces your phone . I have been using Tmobile for years and had to exchange devices and never had a problem "even when the sales rep was aware of the warranty being tripped" exchanging devices . they just said they reflash them and use as replacement devices .

True True.. They say use the search button and now since this thread was created someone will use a search button and have this thread in their results . Usually people that post things like that have had the same thing said to them before . Its like the jerks leading the jerks. On the other hand we do have a lot of useless threads building up in the Note 4 section . Its Like Bloat for XDA
Huge consequences. Guilty conscience, bricked phone in purgatory, and samsung frowning at the very root attempt.
Sorry if this has been answered. I'm sneaking this post in at work and couldnt fully search for the answer. the threads i could skim over didnt answer my ? so here it is,
i rooted used the phon for a while, then restored back to stock unrooted with odin. Apparently i had tripped knox and now sammy pay doesnt work. I'm trying to sell the phone and my 2 potential buyers want that feature to work. Is it possible to get it working again even though i had previously tripped knox ?
There's no way

Hi! I have a problem with mi Note 8 SM-N950U (Sprint).
The thing is that I can't connect more than one equipment to mi hotspot and It's because is bloqued by the OS. When I enter to the Mobile Hotspot configuration, without activate it, it shows on the message that only 1 device can be conected.
How can I fix this? I have a unlimited data plan. Is there any way to do it? or I have to instal a new ROM?
Thanks!
Best regards.
Hehe the epiphany of American freedom
You would need root to remove that restriction either via a mod that fixes it if someone has made one yet or get a custom rom if one is made for your device yet.
You could also try the theathering apps on play store.
I have unlimited plan as well but i have a hotspot limit of 12 GB a month so i use PDAnet to disguise my hotspot connection which makes my phone company think i am using the 300+ GB on my phone and not my laptop
Iam sure there are apps out there that can do what you need without the need to root or void the warrenty in any way.
Tis note 8 is the only phone i have never rooted and most likely never will as i like the features i get without root which i will loose upon root such as banking and secure folder and so on.
This time i got y phone straight from Sammy so i dont have any ISPbloatware on my device and it hasnt been tampered with by any third party company what so ever. Just pure sammy phone
If you dont have the money for a new note 8 then sammy has made it so you can now buy a note 8 or any oher new phone for around 35 pounds a month so like a contract but better then the ISP trap.
Good luck in sorting it out.

Hi guys I really want to root but my main worrys is knox does anyone have a full list of what tripping knox brakes
I've head that most custom roms can save s health is there anything else
I must admit I don't use Samsung pay or secure folder
I just don't want to have features broken where it make parts of the device useless forever like the heart rate monitor ect
Thanks
Basically that's it.
Samsung Pay, And secure folder, i can use everything else.
In my country we don't have samsung pay so idc, and for secure folder i just use private mode or app lock instead, i don't feel like im missing anything.

Well here in the UK Samsung pay doesn't support Halifax yet and it's not somethi g I'd use anyways so s health ect is fine
What about Samsung pass? Then again I carnt see me using that either lol
There's also the problem that you won't receive OTA security updates unless you're using the official firmware.
I know in the past the value of the phone for re-sale is lower on a Knox tripped phone as well, so if you want to get a decent price for the phone if you don't plan on keeping it until it dies that is something to consider as well.
I never had a problem selling rooted phones, as long as you're honest about it when selling, rooting is one of the first things a lot of buyers will do anyway.
my rooted with custom ROM note 4 sold for 335 euro when I bought the n8 last year
If you do not care about knox and samsung pay, AND, in your country rooting does not void warranty, root it
