I need your help regarding something that got out of my hands apparently!!
I exported my contacts from my HTC One M8 using the native "People" app of the HTC Sense. It prompted me if I wanted to password encrypt the file, I sad yes why not, extra sec. never hurt anybody! Until now !!
It turns out that the file that got exported is a .vef file, very uncommon and I hadn't encountered it before.
I did my research as always, the Google contacts import thing didn't work for me, it accept only .vcf and .csv and I'm hopping you the great community of XDA can help me out here.
I happen to have some very important contacts save there that I must not loose hopefully.
Had anyone ever faced such issue, except from using an HTC phone, which I don't have right now, Is there any other way to get around this.
How do I get my contacts back from an .vef file ?!
help please

Anycome come accross the scenario of having to (or being forced to) delete an existing email account and then trying to recreate it?
I have deleted my POP3 account, and then tried to recreate it using the same name as previously. I get a pop up box telling me that 'that name is already assigned to an account, please choose a unique name' or something like that.
This behaviour persists even after soft reset. Does anyone know where the name(s) of the email accounts are stored on the TyTN II - is it the registry or one of the system databases? I've searched the registry for the name of the account I was trying to use and come up with nothing.
I remember having the same problem with the original TyTN, is there a fix for this little bug?

FrankyG
The Messaging app is really weird. This might not be the same issue with yours, but I got one strange problem as well before:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330224&highlight=one+more+Cannot+recognize
Cannot find any solution elsewhere, tried a lot of forums, Microsoft WinMo forum ...
I ended up with hard-reset ... and it works. Now, I dont have the issue anymore (knock3 ... ).
I know this is an old thread but it might help future users

I know this is an old reply and an even older thread, but I have to say thank you! I searched through tons of threads that did not help me solve this issue. I got a replacement phone of same model and moved the Sprite Backup data to the new phone which went fine, I just couldn't pull up the old email account even though TouchFlo saw it. It just wouldn't show up in Messaging and I couldn't recreate the account cause it kept saying an account by that name already existed. This tool worked great to fix my issue. Thanks again!

Welcome to the forum. It's really refreshing to see a first time poster who's read the rules, searched (comprehensively) and found their own solution without starting a duplicate thread. It just goes to show, the information is usually out there for the taking if you persist. I wish more people behaved this way.
Hi there,
I'm fairly new to my Diamond but I love it a great deal.
There is one thing that disturbs me though and that is that I can't sort my phone book other than Name, which is "Last, First", and by Company (I don't bother about Company). I would like to be able to sort my contacts in First, Last Name order, I have a about 300 names in my list and it is really confusing when I don't find who I'm looking for anymore.
I would like to hear with you if there is a way to hack the register or any other solution for my issue.
And no, 3rd party application is not an option, sure, it would do the trick but I want to use and have easy access from the Contact tab.
All help appreciated.
Thanks!
there is a way, but it's not going to be fun, and you may want to do it on the computer in outlook instead.
Outlook on your PC and Windows mobile default to filing contacts as Last Name, First Name as you have found.
however, if you edit a contact, they both have a File as option. here you can select various different options, one of which being first name last name.
it's a bastard having to do it on all contacts, which is why you might want to do it on the computer instead.
hopefully, someone knows of a reg edit that'll fix it.

I developed an Outlook form a few years back that goes through all Contacts and sets the File As fields to First Name Last Name. Is this what you're after? I still have it but haven't used it in ages. Worked perfectly back then.
Feel free to try it (attached and I would recommend backing up your Outlook contacts in a PST first)

I will definitely try your form and I really hope that it does the trick.
But I think there should be a register hack out there somewhere.

In your contacts, on the Diamond, you have the option : "save as", but you've gotta do it manually for each one. Open a contact, tab the right soft-key (menu) choose edit, there you go
There is already an existing thread for this topic.

Hi,
First off, thank you for a really information rich and professional forum!
To my problem, I have the HTC Touch Diamond and I recently changed ROM to dutty's. By mistake I deleted all contacts in my phone book, unfortunately all my SIM contacts were deleted as well. I understand that it might be impossible to restore them since they were stored physically on a SIM card but I have seen some people in this forum manage to do things with this phone that I did'nt think were possible so I thought that I'll give you guys a try.
Is there a way to undo the deleting or am I screwed?
well though i can`t help you i`d like to give you an advice. didn`t you read in flashing manual BACKUP before flashing ? always backup backup backup unless you don`t store your contacts on Exchange server
Oh the problem did not occur after or during flashing, I just wanted you to know which ROM I am using. I could have done this with the stock ROM as well..
I just wanted to know if the diamond was that advanced that it stored all my deleted elements in the memory until I restart it.
Did your contacts really get deleted?
Dutty usually disables the display of SIM contacts (as do other cooks).
They might still be there, you just might not be seeing them.
^.^
check the sim manager
they maybe there...hiding!
i have flashed 100's rom and they have never touched the sim cards
Hehe as I said in my previous post it has nothing to do with the ROM-flashing. When I enter the SIM Manager it is empty and when I look at the properties of my SIM card it is totally empty, no entries, blank.. ****ed in other words
I dont count on solving this problem as the contacts are physically deleted but it would be really cool if the phone had it stored in the memory somewhere..

it sounds like you may be buggerd m8
your old phone still don't have a contacts list i take it?
I dont understand what you mean with "old phone" but I take it as you wonder if I have my contacts on the phone I used before the Diamond. I still do have some contacts on that one but not all unfortunately. Well seems like the only thing I can do is adding the contacts manually when I receive calls from my friends :\
Thank you anyway for your time!
Hi
Yes i'm a noob , so i hope that i posted in the right forum, other wise i apologize.
I have a problem I need to figure out.
I need to sent out about 100 .vcf with "high" resolution photo, to a 100 people.
The problem is that Htc one only allow me to send out 10 at a time, and i have to find the 100 people in my contacts every time.
There must be a easier way to do it.?
I already tried to sync via gmail, but gmail compresses the contact photo to something not very nice, it needs to keep the "high"resolution contact picture.
All the recipient has got Sony xperia Go with JB 4.1 (company phone)
I'm the only one that has HTC One v4.4.2
I try to search around google for this problem but i could really find a answere to my problem, also tried xda.
Yes i'm a noob and everybody hates me,, (yes i saw the film ) so if the question already has been answere and i didn't find it, I apologize.
Thanks

help please
Greetings I am very much a greenhorn or a nubie to the world of Android but I must admit I'm having fun playing with my phone's even when I break them. Anyhow if you still need help i solved the exact same problem by not adding a password when i exported (Saved) my contacts to phone storage or is it called internal storage. Anyhow by not using a password the file that was created was "pcsc_pcsc_001.vcf" using my OTG flash drive I transfered the file from my One M9 to my Galaxy S5. It was a little more entertaining figuring out how to get the file to my ZTE it refuses to register any flash drive. In the end that one too got the file insralled. Still trying to fix the USB prob. I hope this will help you or any one else faced with the same problem Many a Blessed Days to all.

I posted one option for you on your thread but today I realized that if you no longer have an HTC it's useless. If you still need help with your problem then shoot me a text my name is Jose Barrera +1 907 360 7256 I'm in Alaska. If you are willing you can email me your vef file I will use my phone to convert it to a vcf and email you both files back. Up to you my friend.
