what is flashable bootloader? - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

what is flashable bootloader?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/development/rom-jdx-1-0-t3121053
why is it not neccessary for other rom (CHROMA)
please m new to this device

An unlocked bootloader is necessary to flash any custom ROM.

its a bootloader that has to be flashed. the new m bootloader needs to be flashed to run m roms. why not chroma? maybe its not pure marshmallow.

I don't think you need the M bootloader if you have a 5.1 bootloader. I just think you can't boot M if you have the 5.0 bootloader.

Update for unlocked bootloader

Can we update phone's software via ota even after unlocking the boot loader and installing custom recovery
Nooooooooooooooooo
No, Not even in your dreams,
From what I've learned from my own Issue
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/moto-x-qa/totally-screwed-updating-rooted-x-4-4-4-t2896292
Never update phone's software via ota, while you are on Custom Recovery.
Patel21 is correct, you can't with a custom recovery.
You need stock recovery to take the OTA, then you can reinstall a custom recovery

Yes you can as long as you flash back to stock recovery before accepting the OTA. Once done, flash custom recovery and root if lost.

OTA will not install when you have a custom recovery on your phone. Instead you'll be stuck in a bootloop if you have tried to install an OTA with a custom recovery.
Rather than my retyping everything... Please see -> http://mark.cdmaforums.com/MotoX-OTA.html
I've flashed ota updates via custom recovery, you just have to know what you're doing. Also, the Moto boot loader won't relock as far as I know after an update. It doesn't on the Dev edition, not sure about unlocked retail or devices that have been unlocked with sunshine.
Sent from my Moto X
Since all unlocked devices are the same as the dev edition....the same would be true.

The only thing I want sure of was sunshine. If you unlocked via a code, then yes, all of them act the same.

I don't completely understand how Sunshine works, so I can't say for sure, however based on reading the thread, my understanding is it wont relock.
But if you unlock via mfastboot oem unlock {YourUniqueCode} your bootloader will not relock itself. This holds true for developer and non-developer alike.
Someone pls post a Link to stock recovery

Is it possible to get custom roms on xperia play r800i locked boot loader. Running gin2kat android 2.3.7.

[Q] Which bootloader is required for a custom rom of 5.1 or 5.0

i have a XT1058 MOTO X 2013 Bootloader unlocked with latest TWRP recovery+root on Stock 4.2.2 rom I havent upgraded from 4.2.2 So I am on the 30.B4 bootloder. Now my question is will I be able to flash any rom on this bootloader? like im going to flash 5.0 and maybe 5.1cm nightly.. Now I want to know if i have to upgrade my BL to 30.B7? or the 4.2.2 30.B4 will work fine? I cannot proceed without getting complete information about the booloaders. Also I will flash CM11 before flashing the CM12. Please help. Please tell me which bootloader supports most custom roms and also let me know if i update my phone to 4.4 will my bootloader get locked? i cant risk getting locked again. I HAVE TO KEEP MY BOOTLOADER unlocked any how. Please tell me what should i do in detail... Thanks in advance.
BUMP
*****Edit****** Got the answer to my question the most common bootloader that is required by the custom roms is the stock 4.4.4's bootloader.. So first flash KK 4.4.4 FIRMWARE if you want to flash various custom roms....
sorry dude, sometimes it gets dead in here ,just gotta accept the fact.
How did you unlock your BL? via moto website? BL is permanently unlocked if so. And once BL unlocked, you can flash whatever custom rom you want man.
Go ahead and jump to 4.4.4 and check it out, 5.1 is here so might as well.

You are absolutely right... but now someone told me that i dont really need to care about the bootloaders... Because the Custom Rom probably flashes the required bootloader during the flashing process.. So im going to flash Cm11 on my 4.2.2 bootloader and then Aicp 5.1.x and I'll let everyone know how it goes... thanks man
and my BL is permanently unlocked man. Thanks for your help :good:
good job man:good:

Latest Bootloader - Can I Install Lollipop or KitKat Roms?

Hello
I have a moto g titan xt1068 dual sim which was originally running stock lollipop 5.02 and was updated with the OTA stagefright update and then the OTA MM6.0 official by motorola.
I have since installed custom roms cyanogen 13.0 and cyanpop 6.2
I know my bootloader is now the latest, so my question is can I now only install MM based roms? or can I still install KK & LP based custom roms?
or will installing LP or KK based roms hard brick my device?
Many thanks for any help
i'd like to know it too...
I'm not sure, but I can't really see why not. The bootloader being the latest changes jack squat on the question of being able to install older versions of Android or not. I mean, I WAS able to install the stock LP ROM on the MM bootloader, but your mileage may vary.
Yeah you can. Just don't try to downgrade your bootloader while downgrading to previous stock Android version. Itll brick your phone.
But just flashing custom Roms is safe.

That's bullsh-t.. You can always downgrade your rom, but you have to be sure you're not downgrading your bootloader. So if you're using oneclick installer you have to remove the command from the script which will try to downgrade your bootloader. Also after downgrading you have to be super sure that you will not update it with OTA!
Btw.: I'm not sure downgrading through fastboot can even brick your phone.

That's right.. You can touch your bootloader only when you have to upgrade it, for example in case of updating to Android N. Which I think will never happen (of course officially).
Here you can find a nice guide to downgrade your Android version.

Hello, I need to change my bootloader version from 0x4886 to 0x4882 to flash the Paranoid 5.1 ROM on my XT1068. Is this possible without using a PC?
