This may seem very odd, but does anybody know of a setting that allows for normal phone operations when receiving a call while the headphones are plugged in? Example: If my phone is on my nightstand with the earphones plugged in but not in my ears at the moment and I get a call I would like to have a normal conversation without unplugging the earphones or putting them in my ears at that moment.

If I receive a call while I have headphones connected through the USB connector the ringer sounds through the phone speaker as well as the headphones (Normal profile). On every other phone I've had, inserting headphones into a jack socket mutes the external speaker.
Is this peculiar to the S730/Wings or the custom USB connector? Is there a fix or hack for it?
I could put the phone on vibrate but then I wouldn't hear the ringtone through the headphones - or probably remember to switch back to Normal when finished!

it suddenly happens and cant be cured (need to restart)

The ExtUSB port is designed with a metal contact on the square side (on the "back" of the port) to detect the headphones. Make sure that the contact is made. This may or may not be the problem; but it's a good starting point.
I'm thinking not in my case because the ext speaker is muted for music but an incoming call will activate it?
It sounds like something software related but I don't know where to look.
I had a look at a friend's Kaiser yesterday and that does exactly the same thing (and I tried their HTC media controller in my Wings), so it doesn't look like it's exclusive to this model.
Yes. This was posted also by darksider:
if im listening to music with any application through the earphones, it makes-that the sound is at once also playing through the phone speaker, and i have to restart
hey i have the same problem....
if i am listening to music using the headphone and i become a call, then the ringtone comes through the speakers and also the music that i am listening to.
this is a big problem..
thanks
any solution??!?!
I suffered the same problem in the bus, and was very embarrassed because everybody looked at me and I didn't notice...
You have to report this problem to HTC (or reseller). More responses = better chance to find the solution in upgrade. But you HAVE TO DO IT!!!

When I had my Magician, I was able to have headphones plugged in, and make and receive calls with them still connected, without issue. After upgrading to WM5, and WM6, this no longer works. I can hear the other end, but they are never able to hear me. I have to unplug my headphones.
Now, I'm assuming this is because, while the headphones are plugged in, it's expecting a mic on the same jack - which is not there - which is why they can't hear me.
Is there any way to disable this?
Bump?
Come on, how can you guys not know with such a descriptive title!
When I make/get a call while having my phone plugged into my car stereo's Aux input, the call volume is very low. I previously though it simply wasn't coming through at all, but I happed to get a call while the engine was off, and could just barely hear the call volume through the stereo. Even after cranking the phone, stereo & aux level setting in my stereo, the volume's still too low to be used while driving.
Is there a fix, setting, or work-around for this? I really enjoyed using this as my hands-free solution.
One more thing, when I use the stock earbuds with a mic that came with the phone, the volume's fine. I know the phone recognizes headphones with and without a mic from using Tasker.
Thanks in advance!
Anyone have any ideas why this happens. I could be getting off a call and unplug my phone and all of a sudden winamp starts up and starts playing music over the speaker.

Do your headphones have an inline mic? I have a pair of old, crappy headphones that do this because the wires are semi-exposed and it triggers the signal for pressing the inline mic button when I pull them out. I haven't found a fix for it unfortunately. You may be able to make a Tasker profile that automatically stops media playback when headphones are unplugged as a workaround.
Sounds about right. My headphones are a bit messed up and I wrote something for tasker to take care of this for me. That's probably it.
I'll have to check with my other headphones.
Thanks

The worst is when I'm at work and someone comes into my office and I unplug and it's epic trance blasting at them.

Doesn't seem like thats it my other set of headphones do the same.
So I decided to use my headphones today for the first time and the sound is distorted and Google now would automatically start every ten seconds! Anyone else having this issue? I used my headphones on my laptop with no problems. This really blows.

I didn't have this exact problem. I did get the google now thing a lot. And only some times. Like some days it wouldn't happen at all and others it wouldn't stop. I also have been having a problem with if I kneel/bend my body to much it'll shut the music off.

Clear the dust of headphone jack and give it a try and also give it a look that if the headphone is plugged in properly or not. I mean if it's Completely inserted or not
I have a similar problem. When using the headphone jack i just receive sound on one channel, the other one is mute. The only way to receive sound on both channel is to force the headphone plug to the left
