How to use Google Wallet instead of Android Pay - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried and failed to pay with my rooted phone recently.
When I put my phone on the NFC pad, Android Pay popped up and told me that I can't pay with it because my phone it rooted.
Actually, I prefer Google Wallet over Android Pay, but it seems Android Pay just disables Google Wallet. Is there a way to disable Android Pay?
I deleted "Android Pay" app before. I checked that it is not in my all app list. Somehow it can still pop up.

Not sure if you noticed, but Google made the decision recently to separate Google Wallet into two separate apps. Wallet is now used only to send money to people, and Android Pay is required now to do NFC payments. As far as I know, there is no fix currently for rooted devices to use it as I have the problem as well. It's a shame too because I used NFC payments all the time before they changed the app.
Please though, if someone knows of a workaround to get Android Pay working I'd love you forever. I tried some of the suggestions in other threads saying to hide your root access and such, but none of it has worked so far.

Neither do they worked for me. I tried temporarily turning off root, RootBlock and No Device Check

New Google Wallet (09/14/2013)- supposed to work with ALL device - NOT for S4 Active?

Based on various news outlet (example: http://www.androidcentral.com/updated-google-wallet-app-coming-all-us-based-android-phones), Google has launched an updated Google Wallet app that will WORK with ALL carriers.
Previously, when I installed Google Wallet on my S4A, starting it will give men an error about my device is "not compatible", which is a given since AT&T pretty much blocked Google Wallet.
The new Wallet app supposed to rectify this problem. I updated today, launched the app and did NOT get the error above. I am now presented with a screen that asked which Gmail account I want to use for the Wallet App.
I selected my primary Gmail account, which I used to purchase apps and other Google subscriptions service and I got a:
"Failed to add account. An error has occurred while adding your account"
My web-based Google Wallet is fine, otherwise I won't be able to pay for stuff in Google Play.
Anyone get the new Google Wallet to work in the S4A?
I assume you did the Wallet hack? That might be why, I installed it with no problems last night. It let me choose my account and everything, no warnings at all. I can't verify that it actually works though, there's nowhere on island I can use it

No, I use the legit app - downloaded from Google Play.
For your Google Wallet, is your account "Verified" in Google Wallet website? Mine is "unverified"...
I installed it on my I537 last night (or earlier today, I honestly can't remember, bleh) and set everything up but a) I don't have a legit Samsung battery at the moment so no NFC capability anyway (real battery should be here tomorrow, actually), and b) after reading up on the device support at Google's support site it looks as though there are two primary requirements for Google Wallet to function:
1) a device with NFC that is supported by Google Wallet
2) a carrier that supports Google Wallet also
Now, looking over the info again at the following link:
https://support.google.com/wallet/answer/1347934?hl=en
it does show that the Galaxy S4 is eligible which should mean the Galaxy S4 Active is included as well, it's the same basic hardware for the most part but, the issue then becomes is your carrier one that supports it, and according to the info on that page the Galaxy S4 (and by similarity in hardware, the Galaxy S4 Active) is only supported for Google Wallet using Sprint, US Cellular, and Google Play so if you're not using one of those you're/we're out of luck - I use T-Mobile and will test out Google Wallet over the weekend with the new battery. I get why Sprint and US Cellular are mentioned: because they ARE cellular carrier providers, but Google Play isn't so that's somewhat confusing why they'd mention it specifically.
Oh well, hope this clarification helps. I'm sure as time passes more carriers will get on board with Google Wallet - once Google starts pushing that aspect hard, other companies aren't going to have much choice but fall in line and provide support.
It's Google we're talking about here...

I don't see anywhere about verified or unverified, but it does show my Nexus 7 and S4A as 'Active' when I look at it on my PC. I didn't see verified or unverified in the app either... Just that the devices are 'active'.

If you go to Google Wallet on the web, click on Settings and you'll see a section called "Verify Identity".
BTW, my Google Wallet works now in my S4 Active.. had to uninstall AVG first then it works. Not sure why... But it seems the last AVG update "broke" certain thing? It even reported Cerberus as trojan now..

Ahh I found it now. Mine says 'unverified' since I haven't given Wallet my address and such. There are 0 vendors where I live that use NFC readers so I haven't been able to even use Wallet, I just installed it in case I get to go back to the states for a visit.
Glad to see you got it resolved though!

[5.1.1] Android Pay Compatibility

Anyone else recently get updated to the new Android Pay / Google Wallet app combo? Since the update, I haven't been able to get Pay working. I'm logged in with my Google account, it sees the cards I have on my Wallet account, but when I select one it will sit and think for a while before spitting out:
Android pay cannot be used
Google is unable to verify that your device or the software running on it is Android compatible
Click to collapse
And it only gives me an option to dismiss the dialog.
This worked fine on 4.4.4 and 5.0.2.
I may have an APK of the old Google Wallet somewhere, thinking I'm downgrade to that and see how it goes.
Anyone else see this?
edit: should have googled first, this is because the phone is rooted (which I kind of suspected). The simple solution is to temporarily disable root, add your cards, then re-enable root.

android pay - payment declined

Hi, hopefully this is a good place for this topic. I had xposed installed. Then I get rid off xposed, safety net pass in magisk but Google play still shows uncertified and when I try to use android pay in shop payment is declined. What to do to make android pay working?
All mobile banking app working fine including barclays, but Google play shows "uncertified" and everytime when I want to use android pay payment is declined.
Could that have something to do with this>>> https://1drv.ms/i/s!AmrrA5rL7BHoiyBizoVNXJirSEPo
Before in settings I had "android pay" now is "g play"
Please help
https://didgeridoohan.com/magisk/Ma...and_other_apps_wont_install_or_doesnt_show_up
I cleared data in Google play app, it show "certificated " in settings in Google play. Safety net check pass but still cannot pay by android pay. Payment get declined as before :crying:
I haven't got any direct experience with Android Pay, but I believe you might also have to start over, clear data for AP and add your card again. I'm just guessing, unfortunately, but I seem to remember reports like that...

Google Pay doesn't work after removing stock Apps from MIUI

Hi all...I have a little big problem...
Yesterday I started to remove the applications that come by default in MIUI and can not be uninstalled...I did it using MTKdroidTools. The fact is that I started to delete Apps like a crazy man and now I find a problem...I do not know what I uninstalled and what not, but now Google Pay does not work for me. The App is apparently perfect, but when I try to pay it's as if it doesn't work. It's not NFC because I try with other App Bank and I can make payments, but with Google Pay (in which I have another card) does not work. It's as if it didn't detect that the mobile wants to pay.
Do you have any idea what service or app I could uninstall that doesn't work?
The truth is that I don't have the slightest idea what it might have been...
I suppose that if I don't find a solution I will have to restore the phone from the factory...I hope that way all the services and default applications will be reinstalled. I don't have my phone rooted and the bootloader is lock.
Greetings and thanks.
Use HCE Wallet as payment method. If you use eu rom reflash it without delete nothing, it will work

Issue: Using NFC for Payments (rooted)

Hi everyone, I've been seeking for a solution before posting here, didn't want to bother anyone or clutter the web, but as a last resort...
My device is rooted, props successfully installed and set. Banking app works, Netflix and even McDonald's (which I've tested because i had a cts issue) which is now solved.
The issue now is that i want to activate payments using NFC, but when i open my bank app and try to activate the toggle it shows this error:
"your smartphone does not meet the requirements to use NFC payments.
HCE_INIT_ACTIVATION/ERROR_SECURITY_TRC"
It's not a big issue, but if there is a work around. I would like to know.
Good you have an option alternative to Google Pay in first place (you are probably not in US, right?). I recently has similar question posted on reddit without much success. Let's see what audience will propose here.
Yes indeed i'm from Europe and I'm not using G-Pay because i think every bank here have their own toggle in their apps to activate or deactivate the option: "pay with your smartphone."
I'm also pretty doubtful as to whether there is a solution to this error, however my fingers are crossed.

There was same case in US 3-5 years ago and then Google Pay took over and now none of the banks supports its own payment feature in app
Did you check Xposed? There are modules to bypass root check in some European banks available, may be at least on will work.
That's some pretty bad news, that means that Europe will most certainly follow soon enough...
I have not tried Xposed or EdXposed yet, I'll look into it tomorrow and try it out depending on the info.
Question; Does Magisk pass the safety test on your device?
Can you find Netflix on the Playstore? = basicIntegrity
Can you use the McDonald's app? = ctsProfile
I'm curious about your case too.
Even when your bank does not support Google Pay yet, you can use PayPal and they draft the payment from your bank account. Or open an additional account with a bank supporting GPay.

What is this application you are using? Can you provide a link to google play store? And one more question, do you have to register to the banking application to add a card and see this error

Yes this is an app of the bank I'm customer of, so you need to be a customer there and have a bank account and a card, plus a card reader to login to the app at first. Which all works as it should, however the NFC "tap to pay" option doesn't work. Due to the error mentioned above. Also apps such as "it's me" also don't work. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=be.bmid.itsme&hl=nl&gl=BE
When I'm off work, I'll try EdXposed.

I've tried EdXposed along with it's modules flashed through Magisk. No luck at all.
However EdXposed does show the NFC app in the blacklist which Magisk doesn't.
My banking app doesn't seem to know that the device is rooted until it asks me to turn on NFC.
Ehh idk...
