Anyone tried DEVILCASE Aluminum Bumper for the Note 5? - Galaxy Note5 Accessories

I'm considering buying the note 5 and i really like how this metal bumper looks especially with a back skin: http://www.twdevilcase.com/en/index.php?menu=prod_detail&mid=1&did=6&pid=5090&list=class
Anyone using it for the note 5 and can write a little review about it? Does it degrade from the reception of the phone? Basically the reception concern is the only thing that keeps me from buying it so i wonder how the note 5 operates with it installed.
Thanks in advance.

I haven't tried it personally, but I can almost guarantee that it will not interfere with reception. The sides of the phone are already metal.

I had it on my old M7, great bumper and did not interfere with the reception at all. Basically opposite of the ebay bumpers with the signal blocking and scratching the crap out of the aluminum

I have the GHOSTEK CLOAK and it didn't affect any of the signals. The DEVILCASE looks like it has more aluminum, but I doubt that will have much impact.
Have an aluminum frame around the phone by Samsung is much different than an aluminum bumper. You were right to ask. I was hesitant at first to buy mine. The reason is that Samsung puts in "antenna bands" into the frame. If you look closely they have little spots of plastic instead of aluminum. All aluminum phones (that I know of) have these. For whatever reason though, I guess the glass back has plenty of antennas so aluminum bumpers are inconsequential to the signals.

People are complaining about other metal bumpers because they cover the plastic antenna bands on the metal shell, which kills reception.

look nice

Ok, I'm buying the bumper for my next phone, most likely the note 5.

Devilcase response in regard to reception: "Metal does affect reception , it depends on your own reception and location , if yours is quite good all the time , won't be affect too much ."
So it does affect reception and the bumper is needed to be bought and tried in real usage in other to know how much the signal is effected.

They released Note 5 on US Amazon now. Check the link below. They combine note 4 and 5 into one marketplace. It seems like Note 4 performs good on signal reception. The rating is really good.

Are you sure? Can more people confirm this bumper not affecting reception AT ALL? Can you upload a few pictures of the bumper installed?

Nexus 7 Aluminium back cover?

http://www.skinomi.com/sk11349-google-nexus-7-brushed-aluminum-skin-protector.html
I've been looking for a protective case made out of aluminium but no luck, I prefer an aluminium back as it makes the protect look more polished. I did however come across this but I'm worried about it affecting the performance of the nexus as it sticks right onto the back. I'm also worried that it may leave a sticky residue behind if I ever decide to take it off. What do you think?
McAfee says the site is safe and it all looks legitimate.
P.s The case makes it look ****ing sexy.
That looks like the real deal- full metal not like this $15 POS pretender that's 100% plastic w/a stick on metal sheet claiming to be aluminum: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008NMCPXW/ref=cm_sw_su_dp
Yours looks like a quality item- Might be worth a try for $25...
Isn't that just one of their skins that is brushed aluminum in color? They have others that are wood grain, carbon fiber, and brushed steel. I could be wrong though.
I have used a similar thing with my Fujitsu Pocket Loox before and I didn't like it. First, it was slippery, second it was so cold during the winter time, and third it affected the GPS reception.
So that is not for me this time.
Tablet manufacturers don't choose plastic housings just because they're cheap. Most wireless signals, such as Bluetooth, GPS, Wifi, and even NFC will get scrambled or blocked by a metal backing. Asus suffered a lot of criticism with the Transformer Prime because the aluminum shell was killing the GPS.
That said, Skinomi doesn't use real metal anyway. It's just plastic with a metal texture.
Well it didn't hurt the ipad's performance as long as designed carefully I must say.
I really thought this is the one I was looking for when I read the title. I guess I can settle for a "faux" aluminum for now. Call me OC but I like my devices, (laptop, cellphones, mp3 player, mobile 3g wifi, ipod touch, headphone amp, portable speakers even, etc. etc.) brushed aluminum themed. There is something about the mix of black and aluminum that I like. I guess the cupertino people hit the nail in the design department for me.

Doubt you are going to find one. The back cover has antenna connections in it. The best you will find is a fake skin or an OEM replacement cover.

I figured that, there is also a aluminium case option, however this may effect the performance of nfc and gps. Poetic has one but its ruined by an ugly sticker.

Right, that is why they have the apple logo on the back of the iPad. Under there are the radio antennas. That way the radio signals don't get attenuated.

Metal Cases for Samsung Note 2, any suggestions?

I am interesting in buying a case for my note 2, any questions? How about this one? This Case can make your Note 2 look like an iPhone.

Welcome to the forums. If you conducted a search, you would have found numerous threads that already discuss variations of metal cases that are available,

AFAIK, the best quality version of these aluminium cases (iPhone looking case) is the Zomgo. There should be several links to that product in the above-mentioned links.
There are also metal bumpers available, such as the 'Sweet Armor' case and the many eBay knockoff variations of it; Draco bumpers and such.
Besides which, you're more likely to make it look like an iPad than an iPhone.

I'd advise you to not get that case. The metal back reduces the signal and completely removes NFC functionality.

I recently bought a new aluminium case from eBay. However, I received the wrong one. I bought this Zomgo Ultra Thin case (http://www.casefanatic.com/samsung-2/note-2/case-galaxy-note-2/zomgo-galaxy-note-2-metal-case/):
(I think that link redirects to eBay for some reason so try and copy the link address)
But they sent me this 'KXX' case:
It feels very cheap - the aluminium is coarse, the volume buttons are stuck pressed down and the S Pen is impossible to remove without long fingernails or a tool. NFC doesn't work, as expected of an aluminium case.
I rate this case 3/10.

I recommend the bumper style metal cases though. They don't add much thickness to the phone, and the aluminium used in constructing it feels much sturdier.
vantt1 said:
My new aluminium bumper has arrived!! It took 16 days to post from Hong Kong to Australia, which is average. The quality of this case is much higher than the old one. The stepped appearance of the CNC machined case makes it look very cool, and the brushed-polished edges make it look like the S4's design, but curvier and actually aluminium.
The case has much more adequate padding on the inside (which I will have pictures of once my digital camera is recharged), making it fit much much more snugly. Although constructed using more aluminium, it actually feels lighter than my old one, because it is thinner and more tapered along the edges. The buttons on the outside actually click on this one, but they aren't recessed enough so that they can't be accidentally bumped when the edge is placed on a flat surface. The increase in width along all edges also mean that the micro USB port and headphone jack are now more recessed than before, only accommodating slim plugs without a short extender.
The disappointing thing though is that the case isn't raised along the top like it was on my S2, so the camera is still prone to scratching. But I am overall satisfied with this case - it no longer blocks NFC and I think cellular reception has improved as well. The old one was practically a Faraday cage for the Note 2.
Final score: 8/10
As you can see, I also got a carbon fibre sticker, an aluminium home button sticker and a tempered glass screen protector, homage to my Galaxy S2's accessories.
My old setup:
Update:
Comparison of new case with old case; the new bumper case is a lot sturdier than my old case.
The padding on the inside also holds the Note 2 in place better.
The case fits together very well - almost seamlessly where the two halves meet.

Aluminum Frame Review (Fits ALL VARIANTS)

So I took the plunge and purchased the aluminum frame found here:
I just got it in the mail and fitted it to my Verizon G2. Here's what I found:
1) As it's a bumper frame it doesn't cover the whole phone (duh) but the frame interior is fitted with a thin foam material to absorb shock and help with the fit. padding is found on the sides and corners of the frame's interior.
2) It comes with a screen protector. (dry apply 4h hardness aka throw away protector)
3) the lip on the front of the phone gives plenty of allowance for screen protectors but is so thin I'm afraid it may eliminate any glass screen protectors except for maybe the iLoome flex which is .12mm thick.
4) As the back is exposed I'm also investing in a body film like this.
5) Shipment was much faster than projected which is nice since it arrived on my doorstep from mainland China in only 2 weeks.
6) The fit on the front is great, but there are gaps between the back of the frame and battery plate. I was surprised by this since the VS980 is supposed to be the thickest G2.
7) as the back is open the aluminum does not interfere with my signal at all- not wifi, not 4g, nothing.
8) There is a cut out to access the Sim tray, but got to really want it out. Otherwise, you'll need to take the bumper off.
9) My phone can now stand on it's own! May come in handy every once and awhile.
Here's some pictures I'll answer any other questions you guys may have.
this is exactly what i was looking for.
Awesome! Thanks! just what I needed.

Do you screw it in?
yeah, there are 2 tiny screws at the bottom where you secure everything together. I should also mention how it actually ships with spare screws and a driver.
Bought this with a brushed steel wrap from slickwraps. Lets see how well it turns out on my black G2
Thanks for the review! Do you think you could take a picture of it standing up and also a picture detailing what you said for #6?
I bought a metal case for my last phone (Note 2) and it made reception worse. Maybe you guys will have better luck with this one
I ordered this in Champagne and the IQ Shield for my white LG G2... I hope it works out. Thanks for the review, I'll post back when I get mine (2 weeks shipping on the case)

Although that looks nice, I believe you'll have problems with signal and GPS, etc. Maybe wireless charging too if you have the VZW one.
Good to see people are giving this bumper a try. I've bought 4 cases for the vs980. This one finally adds a premium feel to the phone. And now I have some wet apply clear body film on it I think it's protected enough.
Whoever requested pics of it standing up I haven't forgotten about you. They're coming!

I think it was meant to be there because that's what holds the phone up if you're setting it on a flat surface, so you can watch videos or w/e. at least, that's what makes the most sense.

I've looked at that bumper a few times - couple questions:
Does the bumper interfere with your cell reception? (I don't know where Samsung houses the antenna)
Does it give you enough of a lip on the front and back to protect the screen and the camera from touching a flat surface?
Thanks!

I received mine yesterday and test it out. I am on T-Mobile, I usually have LTE with 4 bar using Ringke SLIM case at work and at home. I lost about 1 bar and sometime goes 4g inside a building or at home.
Bumper sucks. S-pen has to be clicked out to be able to get it out of the bumper. You cannot press the clicker with your finger while it's fully seated since the bottom edge of the bumper sticks out so far. Also, the bumper looks like it'll scratch the edge of the phone... minimal padding material. Lastly, the CAMERA is not protected... the phone will rest on the bottom edge of the bumper and the CAMERA, not the top edge of the bumper, because there isn't enough depth to it. So unless you never drop your phone, and if that were the case you probably wouldn't use any protection at all, I don't recommend this bumper.

If you're going to get a bumper case, spring for the extra $10 (it's not even that much, as they currently have a sale going on) and just get the Rhinoshield Crash Guard bumper!
Search YouTube for the reviews of this case for the iPhone 6 and 6+, and the case for the Galaxy S6... phones are dropped from 11.5 feet and higher, and the phone suffers no damage!
It seems if you want minimal case, and to still show off the Note 5, this is the route to go....
this cover looks great
I just received the metallic bumper the OP posted about. It is really a nice looking bumper but doesn't offer much if any protection to the device.
There is a small raised lip on the rear top and bottom that kind of raises the phone up off the camera but not enough. The phone still seems to rest on the camera. There are small cutouts where the antenna insulators are and I haven't noticed much signal loss. Maybe a few dB's.
The S-Pen cutout does require you to use your fingernail to click the pen and pull it out. Once you get the hang of it it isn't so bad.
My son has the Crashguard on his S6. It is an amazing bumper but takes away from the looks of the phone. If you are careful with your devices, the metallic bumper looks great, if not go with the Crashguard.

I never use metal bumper only plastic.
G4 wifi not too strong if i use metal the signal is dead
Thanks for the replies. I am interested in a bumper case since going without a case on my lg G2. Because around the edges on my G2 got scratched and stuff. I wanted to protect the sides a little better on my G4. Not to mention I don't want it any thicker. I also kinda wanted corners protected from drops.
I used an ebay metal bumper on my G4 for a while, it's pretty nice and I didn't notice much signal degradation at all (in fact, I was not really affected - my signal may have been lower, but it never affected me to where I noticed it).
I checked my purchase history and the particular one I got is not sold anymore, but it was practically identical to this one:

Here's something similar: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Spigen-Fact...hash=item3f626a2554:m:mH5U7CcgTg9b7QdAx6N-4SQ
It's got a plastic bumper instead and rubber inner layer. It should protect the device well without affecting signal too much.
Hoe do you like your spigen case? Does it add much bulk?
I typically only have 2bars of service. Do you think the metal bumper will have too much affect?

That case looks like it has 2 parts that need to be used together: 1) the plastic bumper, and 2) the rubber/plastic (TPU) liner and back.
The second part covers the entire back of the phone. I think you need that part because the plastic bumper fits around the liner.
I don't think you can use the plastic bumper by itself because it would be too loose without the liner. So I don't think the holder above is a bumper, and instead just works like an existing one-piece case.
But do you have any ideas whether you can use the plastic bumper part by itself, without the liner?
