battery drains even if phone is turned off, and bad Wifi - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Q&A, Help &

Hey Guys,
1. I have a really serious problem with my battery. The thing is, If I charge the phone to 100% by 10pm, shut it down and by the next morning, battery is 30%-40% :crying: Even when the phone is idled, the battery drain is steep on the graph. I have not installed any third party applications, but only a pure stock rom is installed.
I already flashed and got back to original 4.1.1 Stock firmware via ODIN. Already bought an Authentic OEM battery. Any of these didn't fix the problem.
2. Wifi is also having problems that It cant connect unless the phone is 1 foot away from the access point/router.
Do you have things in mind that I should look up to?

install the wakelock detector from playstore and check what is the wakelock that drains the battery

hmm I could do that but at a later time.
The confusing thing is, why is the fone eating a lot of battery power even it is completely turned off? 10pm 100% 8am the next day 30%, isn't that a very odd thing?
Could the bootloader or something in the phone is using the battery ?

I got a brand new authentic battery for this phone.
Now my problem become worse:
the phone just stayed on this screen https://watchpage.files.wordpress.com/2014/04/wpid-img_1744.jpg
1. I can't get into recovery
2. I can only go to download mode and flash 4.1.1 stock firmware over and over again, but the phone will not boot to OS.

If i flash other firmware such as 4.3 or 4.1.2 stock, this is what I get in odin and celfone screen.
I can't out the bootscreen. No recovery

maybe your new battery isnt an original battery...there are many fakes.
however with odin flash a custom recovery.
then reboot in recovery and flash a custom rom.

I did flashed custom recovery, but still stuck in boot screen

@Dj Kavas: is that a custom and rooted touchwiz firmware?

@Dj Kavas: your custom recovery works. And flashed your recommended rom. And done doing the counter reset
However i still have a very very bad battery drain problem. This is clean installed rom.
Battery is brand new.

I am using your provided rom with agni kernel and pre-rooted.
Here are my kernel setup:
Governor: zzmoove zanez optimised
Scheduler: zen (int) and zen (ext sd)
Cpu max freq: 1ghz
Cpu undervolt: -20 mV
Gpu frequencies: 160/266/350/400/440
Gpu undervolt: -25 mV
Lmk min free: normal
Filesync on..
Very poor battery :'(
I dont know what is wrong with this phone...

[q] i9000 - shutting down issue

Hello! My SGS's battery got empty, the phone was almost shut down. After the vibration, I presume that it is completely shut down and when you plug-in the charger it must show you an animation with a battery. The problem is that it doesn't show me the animation, it just starts the phone. I'm a bit scared and I won't do anything until I get an advice. Does anyone know what should I do to "shut it down completely"? It could have been from the kernel?
to shut it down completely just take off the battery ! put it in and check if its turning ON of course with charger if battery is empty

the fact that your phone turn on when plugged in is a *bug* in the kernel .. generally this thing is mentioned in the features/bugs on the forum page of the kernel.. if you flash a stock one or a different kernel (which doesn't have this *bug*, you won't be having this issue...
*bug* - it can be a feature too
May be a problem with the kernel just try to update the kernel or go back to stock......

Camera and Charging Problem

X8 running MiniCM7 2.1.9 with nAa kernal-11
Camera
First access to camera since boot, it shows blank with camera framework there.
If i exit and return back to camera, the screen is now complete blank without camera framework. There saw once i got "Could not conect to camera" error.
Charging
Charge when phone is turned off, screen appreads with battery charging image. If i press on/off button to boot up rom, it stops charging(shown in settings>about phone>phonestatus) but my LED notification shows constant red.
Battery icon shows 0%
Sometimes after boot up it discharge at 18% and after sometime(i dont know how long or maybe it keeps on repeating) the phone restarts. and turn to 0%
Could it be virus? Cause my SDcard folders' name start to change to weird symbols.
Or because i dropped my phone on the floor?

no, 1 partition, FAT32, i didnt do anything to partition before this problem.
And now again the charging problem came, after i reinstall the rom.
Dont forget u need to factory reset after installing,it will only remove the stuff on ur phone not the memory card, anyway u can install em back
EDIT:Wait if i remember correctly,i used to use minicm7.2.x and after u install the kernel and rom u ALSO need to install gapps.zip files by flashing them with CWM,u better double check with the guys over at minicm thread .used to have charging problems cuz i forgot to install gapps.zip as adviced by them.
EDIT2:Yup u need to install gapps (google apps) there is a link there for you to download it,all u need to do is follow all the instruction given and it will be fine.

Listen here, its IMPORTANT to install gapps if u havent alrdy.
Step 1 flash kernel
Step 2 reboot to CWM then factory reset (full wipe) MAKE SURE U DO THIS.
Step 3 install rom minicm7.2.1.x and then gapps
Step 4 reboot,takes 2 ~ minutes
GAPPS is a VITAL Step it has nothing to do with ur charger nor hardware.
Edit:i know i might not be an x8 user anymore, but i had that problem because i didnt read the instructions propely.
Edit2: im using a apple wall charger and it works fine, charging my Xperia Neo V.

Woke up this morning, my Note was dead...

Hi there,
I had no problem with my Note until this morning when I woke up.
My Note was turned off, I tried to turn it on, impossible.
I plugged the usb wire and I saw the battery logo and it was fully drained.
It's weird because I usually hold 2 days with my phone and yesterday, before sleeping, the battery was almost full.
More than that, I use Green Power, so all the connectivity services shut down during the night, there's almost no battery consumption.
So, I tried to turn it on, many times, impossible... it's stuck at the blinking Samsung logo.
I use the LQ2 rom with the Franco's kernel R5.
I've also tried to wipe cache & Dalvik's cache in recovery, but that doesn't change anything.
I'm beginning to be a bit worried because I've red some post on the forum saying that the Note's CPU can burn...
Please help ! Thanks !
are you overclocked? but even if you are, if the device goes into deepsleep, it can't burn...
i wonder what really happened..
How long have you had Franco 5 running on it?
I got stuck at flashing logo when I tried to upgrade from Rocket ROM 3 to 4.1. Ended up having to do factory reset. Now on RR4.1 with CF kernel. Hoping it stays stable.
So if all else fails do the factory reset as per ROM instructions and hope that gets you through.
I don't overclock the device, I try to run it as simple as possible, as long as I have Gmail, I'm happy.
I don't know what happened... I was running Franco's R5 since the day he released it, without any single problem !
I'm now on a Windows, I'll try to run Odin and flash it.
Yes, no idea what appened.
But the best is to flash a wipe stock Rom from Odin PC.
How to check if my cpu is not burned ?
I flashed a new rom with Odin, the phone doesn't boot anymore...
The file I flashed: http://www.hotfile.com/dl/159007364/ad4ff19/N7000XXLQ2_N7000OXELP6_SER.zip.html

I hope your PBA is not cooked like mine. I was on franco's kernel too before I could revert back to safety, it was dead. Are you able to get in download mode? When flashing or wiping, do you get errors on datafs or factoryfs?

First of all the CPU is fine, since you see the Recovery screen.
From Recovery flash Abyss 4.2, reboot Recovery (from Advances).
Wipe user data, Cash and Dalvik Cash,
Flash any ROM.
I had a very similar problem. Resolved by reverting to Franco R4.
Good luck!

When I do that, before flashing the latest rom, I was going into recovery.
Now that I flashed it, I land into a "Android system recovery (3e)".
It's a blue menu like the CWM Recovery but with less options.
I suppose that this is the default recovery system bundled by Samsung...

Now that I flashed the original rom, I lost root, how can I do that ?
When I first got my TMobile Galaxy S2, the first day it died completely while I was sleeping. I tried turning it on and I would feel the vibration of the phone trying to turn on but it wouldn't. I figured the battery had drained so I plugged it in the charger, but the phone wouldn't stay off and charge, it would try turning on over and over. It went into a crazy bootloop. It was my first time with the phone so I thought it went crazy and called samsung.
Eventually the phone got enough of a charge to power on completely without shutting down. I eventually realized that if my phone died completely, what I had to do was use my Car Charger, which didn't turn my phone on and showed me the little battery indicator showing it was charging.
I don't know if this is similar to what you experienced but hope it helps.

a similar thing happened to me earlier,
I would advise you not to have wiped anything whilst on ICS even with franco kernel.
If you can go to download mode, do so then using pc odin flash a stock rooted GB rom from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535025
then flash cwm recovery. following this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
then wipe data, cache and everything else.
you should be back to GB then flash whatever rom you want, I would advise you to flash paranoidandroid which is superb.
the only difference I had with you, is that i did not wipe data or cache whilst on ICS so this may not work for you as you have done that.
But this method worked for me.
Ok, I'll try to flash the GB rom, and I'll be back to get you update of the situation...
I think I'll be back on HTC soon... I don't understand why the phone reacted like that...

Note will not charge

Can someone help me? I’m currently running Criskelo’s ICS V11.2 with CF-LRG. Yesterday i noticed a massive battery drain up to 12% per hour. After charger was connected for a few hours i can’t turn phone on, after 5-10 min phone going on by itself, after starting the Phone going again off. I wipe in recovery but it did not help. It keeps repeating.
First of all I'd say you try other battery saving kernels out there e.g. SpeedMod, if your still getting that battery drain bug, try to go to CWM, wipe dalvik cache and batterystats and charge your phone until it's full. Use it until the battery drains to 5% and charge it to full again. (Do a complete battery cycle is what I mean).
Check back after if your still getting the battery drain issue.
probably the problem is hardware issue ( usb connector).
i have flash other rom other kernel, wiped. nothing. i still can't charge battery over usb. how i can restock (cause of warranty)? no way with ODIN

I'm not an expert on this, but I think it would be a good idea to download both CPUSpy and GSam Battery Monitor to find out what exactly drains your battery so much.
CPUSpy is to see if the sleep states activate normally as they usually would. (mine is at >80%)
GSam is to see if there are any rogue apps or system processes that eat the battery up.
Then report back here
EDIT: Also, I heard that it is recommended to calibrate your battery after you flash a new ROM. I think this can be done via recovery by wiping the battery stats.
Please check this..
