Warranty void without unlocking bootloader? - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
My I rooted my z1 without unlocking the bootloader. I thought this wouldnt void warranty, but now, the repair service says my warranty is voided. Is this correct?

@Skanin if u have unroot it or if u have flashed stock firmware which isn't pre rooted before u sent it for reparing, then ur warranty is not voided.

[Q] Rooting Voiding Captivate Warranty?

I was thinking about rooting my captivate, but I've heard that it voids ur warranty and that if it bricks my phone then all is lost and I can't replace it. Does rooting actually void my warranty?

Short answer is yes it voids your warranty.
Not the short answer, if att were to somehow FIND OUT you rooted, you would void your warranty. Oneclickroot and z4root both have un root option, and if you end up going the custom rom route there is a lovely peice of software to flash stock unrooted back onto a soft brick situation. So if read up, know what your doing before you do it, and be careful they would never know it was rooted.
i actually had my phone exchanged the other day, and it was sooted. They only asked me to put the original software in it.
thanks for all the input guys! and yeah if i root and flash a rom and then find something wrong with the phone i can always revert back to the original software. if i brick it i can always report it lost or stolen.
had my rooted phone screen cracked, sent it into att and they fixed it no questions asked..

You already invalidated your warranty when you unlocked your bootloader.

Unlocking bootloader doesn't void warranty in EU and I can restore the DRM keys

And UK isn't in the European Union

That's an interesting page. Thanks. It's useful to me, as the UK actually is part of the European Union and has been since 1973.
I have to ask, though, if you're already aware of this stuff, then why are you asking here?
The thing is, Sony would probably argue that it's overridden by the fact that you agreed at least 3 times that unlocking your bootloader may invalidate your warranty during the process of retrieving the unlock key from their website. Even though statutory rights cannot be overridden in this way, that hasn't stopped warranties being denied for no good reason before. This is a moot point though, as long as you restore your TA partition before taking your phone for warranty repairs.
What happens if I flashed a stock based ROM and relocked the bootloader and tried to install an OTA update from Sony

The OTA will almost certainly fail, as most OTA updates perform a check to see if /system has been modified in any way. If this check fails, then the OTA update will not go ahead.

[Q] Void warrancy and root without BL unlock

Hi to everyone!
I just find that it's possible root our phone without unlocking the bootloader (and lost the dmr key).
What about the warrancy? If I root in this way I'll void it? or what?
Thanks in advance
Once you unlock your BL your warranty is essentially gone.
Because you can't undo the process (unless you backed up your TA partition).

I'm not sure I understand - the OP asked if the warranty will be voided if he roots the phone using the newer method without unlocking the bootloader. Or do you simply re-lock it later with this method and the warranty is still voided?

That's why I said that the warranty will only be voided if you unlock your bootloader. All other things like root etc, you can just revert and Sony will never know it.

Root and warranty?

Hello,
I'm considering buying a Sony Z3 Compact, and I'm unsure of its warranty status when rooted. I've read that warranty remains in tact if you don't mess with the bootloader.
I just wanted to clarify: if I use this guide, and follow all the 46 steps without skipping anything, will my warranty be void or not?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/how-to-root-backup-drm-keys-t3013343
And do I need to restore something prior to using warranty? They're often quite strict about this stuff in Lithuania...
I have root and botloader locked and my phone has been repaired under warranty without problems

Root and warranty
