Does any one know how long google plans to support "old" nexus devices like the nexus 6 with system and security updates? Since the nexus 5 is still getting updates, i'm guessing at least 2 years...
Like 3-5
I believe it is 2 years
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
It will get Android N and O. After that, it will continue to be supported by the good folks here.
Few more years at least...
No one knows for sure.
Some.of the earlier nexus devices got 18 months. Nexus 5 is still.going at 2 years but for how long, no one knows.
From Google's announcement in August:
Nexus devices will continue to receive major updates for at least two years and security patches for the longer of three years from initial availability or 18 months from last sale of the device via the Google Store.

Apparently, there have been some rumors floating around the last few weeks about a new version of the Nexus 4 being released to address storage space issue.
...But besides that, it seems that Google is also sneaking in CDMA support, meaning those of us stuck on Verizon might finally have a chance at this.
Has anyone else heard the rumors? What do you think? Supposedly, there's slated to be a presentation at Google I/O about the new Nexus 4, focusing on its support for Key Lime Pie. So, we'll find out definitively one way or another in a couple weeks. However, until then, speculation might as well run rampant.

There was a second article about it floating around a couple weeks ago, but I haven't been able to find it. I'll link it here if I stumble upon it again.
No.

Google IO starts in 26 days... Rumors = Bull****
But I have to admit I can't wait for Key Lime Pie...
It wouldn't make any sense to release a new Nexus phone and a new version of the old model...
Storage space issue? What? There is Google Drive (or SkyDrive, Dropbox etc.) And what do you expect for the low price of the Nexus 4... (of course the hardware is great)
Anyway I hope that the new Nexus phone won’t be a 5inch eek plastic crap like the Samsung S4, the LG Nexus is perfect hope they stay on this design.
Nexus 5 with CDMA might be more reasonable...
16GB can't be short for a bunch of apps...

Your link doesn't say anything about a new version of the Nexus 4 but that the Nexus 5 is only going to be a beefed up version of the Nexus 4. Kind of like what Apple did with the iPhone 4S.

I actually did not read the last few sentences and its all just rumors anyways. It doesn't make sense as they would have to add not only a CDMA chip but also LTE as Verizon would never let it on its network without it. Just adding CDMA alone could drive the price up at least another $50-60 from what it is now let alone what adding LTE would cost. You would be looking at a $500 phone, more likely $600 as Verizon wouldn't let Google sell it through the play store. And that would also mean Google would have to re-submit the phone to the FCC for approval for LTE. Just not going to happen as the Nexus 5 is just around the corner and will be announced in about a month anyways.

Why do think the Nexus 5 will be announced in about a month? They have never announced new Nexus devices until sometime in Q4 of the calendar year, traditionally in the November to December timeframe.
I've been seeing some of these rumors and I really hope it's true. I have the S3 on sprint now but I can't wait to get a stock android phone. LTE and sprint support and I'm in IMO the one and s4 are just more of the same and I really don't like OEM ui overlays. Also I don't see Google announcing a new nexus 5 next month so this seems somewhat plausible...kind of how the ns4g came to the party a little later

There are rumors that Google will introduce the Nexus 5 or an LTE version of the Nexus 4 at Google I/O in May. They typically show something off at that event, last year it was the Nexus 7. Also I don't really see a CDMA version of the Nexus 4, just an LTE/GSM version as Verizon is very anal about anything on its network and usually tests the crap out of it for months before they will release it. Look at the GNex disaster for a hint of how Nexus devices get introduced and supported on Verizon. And yes typically Q4 is when Nexus phones are announced and released but specs usually start leaking out months in advance. And if the Nexus 4 LTE rumors were true someone would have shown off Googles application to the FCC to license it by now for sure. Usually some android website shows off with a "look what showed up at the FCC" post. So it's just speculation on my part that at I/O Google will show off an LTE Nexus 5.
Given that a lot of manufacturers are moving to 6-month update cycles instead of annual update cycles, it may not be surprising if google does the same with its nexus line up, with 6 month incremental update cycles and annual major revision cycles.
Will it have better battery life? That is what I care about the most!

Well, they could build the n5 as a world phone with quad band gsm, CDMA, bands 1, 4, and 17 lte and such, then add 64gb of storage sell it for 500$ and I'd be in

Your points about the the nexus 7 makes it more likely that we see a refresh of it at I/O as it is already a year old.

Exactly. There isn't going to be a new nexus phone. Maybe the Motorola X, but not a new nexus. The nexus 7 will be refreshed though.

Android Police or Droidlife, I forget which, had an article about this rumor which was more informative than the link provided. They said Google usually introduces non-phone hardware at I/O so like you say a re-fresh of the Nexus 7 or other tablet device is what they will show off.
I thought Google was going big on Google TV this I/O? 2nd gen nexus 7 is needed and I'm guessing a nexus Google TV device.

There is already a CDMA Optimus G, so it wouldn't be too much work for Google.
I was looking at the NV Item in the Qualcomm modem on my N4, and it had quite a few references to Verizon. Which seems a bit weird other than perhaps it being a legacy of the Optimus G CDMA version when the N4 was being developed.
As for CDMA, I'll give my usual rant that it's a dead technology even according to its standards body (3GPP2). Plus the whole eHRPD thing is just a complete mess, it tries to emulate core GSM network components for circuit switched fallback
All the CDMA providers should be racing to deploy LTE everywhere so they can switch people permanently to LTE and get rid of circuit switched fallback to CDMA.
Hi for all, anyone kown if is real the nexus 7 two, if but no 8 inches, what think? Thanks
Not real yet, as in selling, but it's probably been produced.
Should be 7" by all rumors.
Won't know until Google shows them...
I think 8" is a good size too. I played around with my sister's Note 8 and it's pretty nice.
An 8 inch would be nice, but doesn't seem likely. I am thinking of getting a 7 and a 10 this time around. Hopefully a new 10 will be released with the 7.

Google won't release a new 7 and 10 at the same time, its a marketing scheme to release different tablet sizes at different times so a lot of people buy the new 7 then they release a new 10 and people buy that.

My guess would be this month. Staples just lowered the price on their nexus 7's today, so it seems like a release is near.
I covered this as leaks and rumors a few months a go on my site.
It is definitely real and is IMMANENT!
This time round I'll be getting the 10" version, as my Nexus 7 is still the snappy little bulldog it used to be, and I love it as much as the day I bought it, so why replace it?
Google Play Store in the UK has been updated - bye bye Nexus 7 and hello New Nexus 7 - check it out https://play.google.com/store/devices?hl=en
Also, massive £80 price drop of Nexus 4 devices!

The nexus 4 is great value now, the nexus 5 probably isn't too far away, but for 200 quid for the 16GB version you're still getting arguably one of the top spec phones out there at the moment.

It's like Sophie's choice haha!
Been looking at Nexus 4 for a while as lots of the ROMs I use on my Nexus 7 are made for that too. But I know if I bought the Nexus 4 now I would be gutted when the New Nexus 4 (or 5) gets released!

Got an S4 last month on contract, but had contemplated the Nexus 4 as it was such good value. Had pretty much decided on the S4 and in the end the nexus 4 was out of stock with my provider so that was that. Have a Nexus 7 as well so it keeps my pure vanilla android cravings satisfied!
There is always the 'next' device just around the corner, have seen articles with S5 rumours knocking about already! At least you can be certain it will receive the next key lime pie update which should also be incoming very soon, which always gives that type of new phone excitement!
nexus 4 16gb for £200?!?!?!

What are y'alls thoughts on getting your hands on the Nexus 6 and or waiting for Android Silver?

Waiting for a Nexus 6 to replace my Nexus 4.
Google know people are on two year update cycles... They support Nexus devices for two years! They'll be looking for something to replace an N4 - even if its just an announcement around November surely...
Happy to wait till then. The plumetting price of g2 is an interesting one though. Shame there's no GPe for it...

Honestly? This year's pretty tricky. I know I'm going to upgrade relatively soon, but I'm looking at the new iPhone fairly seriously (especially with the rumored 4.7" screen) for the first time since I left iOS in 2010. The rumored iPhone 6 is currently slightly behind the rumored Moto X+1, with the rumored Nexus 6 sitting in third. Obviously this could all change with actual information, but for now I just don't know.
I love the unlocked bootloader/root and everything that comes with it, but I'm also tired of the ****ty battery and the mediocre camera. The Nexus 5, though obviously better than the 4, again seemed relatively mediocre compared to its competition with regards to both. I'm afraid the same will be true with the Nexus 6, though obviously I'm hopeful that it doesn't fall into the same trap that every Nexus device does.

well for the price of an iPhone you get:
1 nexus 5 = 2 year lifetime
1 nexus 5 = 2 year lifetime
1 nexus 6 = 2 year lifetime
versus
1 iPhone 6 = 2 year lifetime
If you're comparing iPhones with cheap androids (nexus or moto line) then it's not fair. You have to compare to equally budgeted devices like HTC One M7/M8, Samsung Galaxy S6?, LG's new superstar etc...
They will have comparable cameras and better screens

I bought the GSM Galaxy Nexus for $650 (maybe ~$100 less than the iPhone in Canada) and didn't get a good camera and battery. I'm not really using price as a consideration because it's not really irrelevant to my needs (though obviously a consideration for a lot of people). On Android, I want a good camera and battery, regardless of price, along with an unlocked bootloader, easy root, stock Android, and quick updates. The whole reason I skipped the Nexus 5 was because it didn't deliver that.
Galaxy S5, HTC One, etc. don't deliver that. The developer editions do, but again they have tradeoffs compared to the official ones (picture quality being the biggest concern, battery life also worse based on reports). If Android Silver can deliver that, I'm also interested. I'm just explaining why I'm looking at the iPhone and have no interest in convincing anybody else to...so there's that
Edit: Quick question, but where did you get the 2-year lifetime warranty for the Nexus 5? The Nexus 4 only has a 1-year warranty...I know because mine ran out and I was looking to get the audio jack replaced.
Let's wait until there's an official announcement before we discuss this

Does Moto X supports life long Andriod upgrade support like Nexus 5
No phone, or anything for that matter, has a lifetime guarantee of updates. Most Nexus devices get 2 major release updates, which is about 2 years of support. I'd guess that the Moto X will be similar, but who knows when they'll stop supporting it.
Sent from my Moto X
Google has adopted an 18 months of updates policy it seems. So no, after 18 months probably there will be no more updates.
Nexus devices as well.
