Hello
Basically want to kick-start a bounty thread as Joehen stated in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...gpongroot-s6-s6-edge-root-tool-t3107785/page3
I've been lurking the forums for years now and I made time to make an account to express my concern for the g925aucu2aof4 ATT S6 Edge build on 5.0.2.
I bought this phone thinking it was going to be cake to root, but after weeks of waiting and searching for ways to root it, my struggle expanded. Considering that I can't even downgrade to an earlier version to root it, I'm stumped.
I'm offering a bounty or incentive to anyone or a team that can work on this root and get around the "OF_" through PayPal
PingPong doesn't support the OF4, KingRoot tells me that there is no strategy and "477 requests have accelerated the search for me?" SRSroot didn't work, despite their claims on their twitter saying their program can root it. - https://twitter.com/srsroot/status/631875443449294848
I am willing to pledge $50, and so are other members are willing to pledge money in order for a root for this phone
Thanks
Yes you can do it!
I don't know if this will work for you but for me was hard to find and put it on together to work.
i followed these step but I was on OE2 built and was able to downgrade.
1. Install samsung usb drivers
2. Download Odin 10.7
3. Download this OCE built G925AUCU1AOCE_CL4351102_QB4488922 (search it on google) as the on provided in XDA did not work for me
4. Put the exact files in Odin for each rubric AP at AP, BL, CP and CSC
5. Put phone on download mode. Careful! Pay attention there should be shown the "Added" text in odin if not try another usb cable
6. let Odin to do its job
7. Use pingpong root and you will get root.
Now I am using xtrolite rom after gained root. And you also should know that everything on your device will be erased.
Hope this will work for you.

That sucks. Tried searching for ways to unlock the bootloader to no avail.
Might as well sell this phone and go back to my S4 because having a non-rooted phone is awful, thanks anyways

Guys at this point i dont care ill bump my pledge to whatever any1 wants that can crack this
Hey guys I'll pledge $25. Is there a place holding this money now or do we send direct to the dev as soon as it is achived?
To be honest I do not think anyone even checks the AT&T s6 edge forums anymore... if you want to drum up attention for a bounty, you're best to start a bounty thread in the main sgs6 forum and title it appropriately. You'll probably also want to get the Verizon guys on board to help raise the amount. I think before ping pong came out the bounty was in the thousands of dollars range! Then you need to keep track of who pledged what in the OP so everyone has a running tally. That is if you're really interested in doing this. To be synical I have to say it's probably a wrap for this piece of crap and it's unlockable bootloader.

Will definetly check this thread out when the Incredible drops. I will go and test it out on the 29th, and most likely buy it, got an update on one of my lines.
would like to see nexus one 3d photo gallery in your rom which would be nice. I also can't wait for free wifi tethering.
Hoping you folks smarter than me are able to find root quick
I have created a custom recovery.img from Ama_ra's source, so if fastboot is unlocked then we can just flash the recovery.img via fastboot and flash a custom ROM.
I used the xmoo shipped ROM for the images.
but if its not unlocked then we can try fastboot oem unlock and see if it unlocks the bootloader, but this will 100% void your warranty.
I have also created an update.zip but the shipped ROM might be newer than the leaked images from (xmoo)
Should be rooted allready...... so there may not be a need for this thread.

I've already tried fastboot oem unlock on the Incredible and it doesn't work. Hardware similarities aside, rooting the device won't be as easy as the Nexus One.

Which is why I'm getting the best buy maintenance program. They have no deductible and you can change your phone out as often as you like. . Walk in get another one and leave. I do believe that they will start using refurbs when they become available if they have them at the store you visit.

What exactly is the "Odin ML2?" Is that the leaked version that we already have root for? The one we don't have root for is the OTA version, which has nothing to do with Odin. Yet another pointless thread.

First off there's no need to be a ****. You are correct that we don't have root for ML2, or the OTA version as you refer to it. The point of this thread is to figure out a way to get root which I think everybody would appreciate, so no need to give the guy grief.
Secondly, while most people received the update to ML2 as an OTA, there were 2 users here who were able to find and post complete Odin packages for ML2 (see this thread and this one), so yes, this thread has everything to do with Odin and rooting ML2. There are summaries of all the official AT&T firmwares in this thread with links to most of the important stuff. Please at least do a search before invalidating somebody who is trying to help the community.

Thanks for taking the lead on trying to figure out root, I think a good starting point might be a list of all the root methods that others have tried and failed so we don't get people duplicating work that we already know doesn't work. I'll take a crack at putting that list together this weekend. It's nice to have a dev working with the i537.
The only thing I'm trying to invalidate is the need for yet another thread about this. There's several already (like this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2576460) that could have been used to keep everything consolidated instead of spread all over the forum. I also had a difficult time understanding just what the OP is saying as the grammar is not the best. This post seems more like an exercise in cheerleading than a serious attempt. Regardless, since there is so much confusion regarding the OTA and the leaked versions of ML2 I think it only prudent to be clear when posting anything about either one. This thread was definitely not clear.

Let me know what I can do to help out on my end. Really want to get this rolling so we can move forward with 4.3 compatible SS Roms. However, should we wait a little while for news on the 4.4.2 KK that would be pushed out? I feel like we might end up pouring efforts into 4.3 ML2 and boom, KK gets pushed. Either way I'll try to help in any way possible.

Ok, so I'm not going to argue with you because as I've seen in other threads you really get worked up. By I will try to clarify what the OP is trying to do because there are probably others that are unclear on what he is trying to do.
The other root threads for ML2 focus on using existing root methods to try to root ML2, the purpose of this thread is to develop a completely new root method. The idea is to take the ML2 Odin files and decompile them. Once the files are decompiled he's going to try to inject root into it, and recompile it so we can flash it to our phones.
If this works it would be a lot more simple for the end user than most of the other root methods (except for Active Root, obviously). Additionally if he is able to achieve this, it might be a good idea to try to replace the ML2 bootloader with the MI2 bootloader since it would allow users to be able to downgrade to MF1 and MF2 or MF3 if we ever figure out a way to get that back on the phone. Basically it seems like the most "open" bootloader.
I think this is a definitely a worthwhile effort since it is probably our only chance of getting root on ML2 and a worthwhile thread since it consolidates all the information for this specific root method in one thread. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help.
I personally think that this is a better approach and, depending how it is written, this could survive 4.4 update, seeing how past root approaches were more or less overlays or hijacks, if you will, with it written into the package, it would seem to me, have a better probability to survive.
Also, on another note, no need to disparage someone who is willing to try, a lot of the Roms and roots, on XDA, were written by someone, whose main language is not English.

I have an i537 already on ML2 here that I don't use at the moment. We can use it to test installs as long as devs here would help me if I have trouble restoring it (should something go wrong with a bad install).
Thread cleaned, keep it respectful.

Actually, the OP is from New York. When relating things of a technical nature it is very important to be clear and precise. These forums are littered with posts from people who either could not follow directions or who followed directions that were unclear and ended up causing a problem with their phones. If the OP has difficulty with English then perhaps he should enlist the aid of someone better suited to be providing technical explanations or directions for us to follow. That's not a knock on the OP's ability to pull this off, just on his ability to present it clearly and understandably. I was a magazine technical editor for many years, so I might be a little sensitive in this area. I've seen a lot of posts by people who were brilliant at figuring stuff out in here, but when it came time to put the actions into words there was much confusion about the processes they were explaining. It is very difficult to write technical material for a broad audience of varying technical abilities. When writing technically, one should always assume that the readers are less savvy and tailor the information to their level, not that of the writer's. So many problems in here would be minimized if developers would remember that the majority of people need to be walked through things step by step instead of assuming that they already know all about the process. Just my $.02.
Oh, I know he is from N.Y. I was being general in nature, the English as a second language part, been too much of deriding in here, when sentence structure isn't to someone's standards, which translators don't do.
As far as the OP is concerned, yes it could have been a little more concise, but he was only saying what he was trying to do, which a lot of people understood, when it's time for the finished product, that's where it should be concise.
Just IMO.

I did a factory reset to my 4.3 (through Samsung while unrooted) and it downgraded to 4.2.2. I don't know if yours can do the same now that it's rooted, or even if it's meant to do that (when I factory reset my tablet it reset to a blank ROM of the same version it was on), but that could be worth a try.
---
OP: You could dual boot your regular computer if you wanted a better performing linux machine, but I'm sure you know that.
I have the i9295 but I think it would be good the S4A as a whole if we could get more root users. If you need help with anything that needs to be done on a linux computer that yours is struggling to do, let me know. I'm happy to help!

Oh I never did root my phone, that's what I was saying. I didn't even know what it was at first. So now I know about it and want to root but since I updated, I can't. So you think if I do a factory reset I can get root? I am willing to try and go back to 4.2.2 and then just update when there is a root method for ml2 4.3. How would I do a factory reset? Sorry, like I said, I'm knew to all this.

Oh, right, I misread your original post, sorry. You *may* be sent back to the version your device shipped with - I was on my i9295, I wasn't on my Bauhn tablet though. A factory reset does mean that it's set back to the way it was in the factory, so it should do. It would be worth a try if you really want to root your phone, but I would definitely advise backing everything up either way. A ML2 root is being worked on at the moment but some other nice XDA users.

Thank you. I am tempted to do the factory reset, but then again I think I will wait for the ML2 root. I could also help in the testing of the method, as long as I have instructions on what to do if something went wrong. Thanks again.

I think you should use other sotfware to root
I'm running FW G870AUCU1ANG3 on my AT&T S5 Active and can not seem to get towelroot to root it. When I press the "make it rain" button it says the device is not supported.
From my reading it seems the latest FW is a pain when it comes to rooting. Anyone able to actually root their S5 Active w/ the latest FW?
Thanks
U can try this.

@Joshua skidmore as a junior member with all of one post I would suggest you go through XDA and at least read the rules before posting. You should also learn to use your search button and read everything you can about root and how to do so all the Information you need is in the forums.
When you post about being in download mode and not knowing what it is or even why your in it opens yourself up to some very derogatory replies you probably won't like.
I'm not flaming you I'm giving you sound advice we've all been there before.
What you've posted will come across as asking for someone to hold your hand.
Please do not do anything til you've done your own search and read everything you can.

I'm wondering what the process for the Pixel devices is, and if anyone has had any success with existing tools/SuperSU.
It's running 7.1 if that's relevant.

I guess I have to wait for custom recoveries that support this phone then? I can't see a build for TWRP that supports sailfish.

You'll first need to unlock the bootloader and then wait for chainfire's magic. It is possible to root through fastboot also so there is a good chance that you'll get root before a custom recovery.
Due to seamless updates, things have changed a bit so it'll take some time to be figured out

Buy it directly from Google and the bootloader won't be locked, only if you buy it through a carrier like Verizon will the bootloader be locked

This is the first device with Android's new partition layout. Having looked at the firmwares and at running devices (remotely), I have some ideas on how to do it.
However, it will be a while before I have SuperSU fixed up. The changes will be quite a bit of work and testing, and doing so remotely will make that take significantly longer. So I'm just going to wait for my own device, but as they aren't available in my country, it has to be shipped from another country and go through customs. I don't expect my device to arrive for another week or two.
In the meantime, it's always possible someone else releases root for it.
I saw @jcase and @Dees_Troy have been playing with TWRP, to me it seems wholly possible to fix that up (mostly) as well. But even if TWRP is released tomorrow, using the existing SuperSU ZIP will not work on it, due to all the breaking changes in Android 7.1.
Will be interesting if you can do it CF... Looking forward to release - Ill send a donation your way when done

If your intent was truly altruistic, you wouldn't feel the "burden" of stating it publicly. So no, it doesn't matter.

Appreciate all you do Chainfire, seriously. Can't wait for you to work your magic
Ah its so funny to what people write after all these years of people spending their own time to work out back doors and exploits to enable root / Xposed / Custom bootloaders / Kernels / Recoveries.
People can't just wait and see and if the devs ask for help or testers just be part of it, throwing a few dollars at them is not going to push things forward . . . let them do what they want to do its their project / baby and it will happen when it does.
Support the devs after the fact dont try and attempt to influence them into it with beer money.
Some of y'all are ridiculous! The guy made a harmless statement and didn't mean anything negative by it. And what do all of the analytical geekers do? Just that... Analyze his comment to the bone and find all sorts of self-serving intent within it. Blows my mind...

Oh shut up. What a stupid thing to say. People are excited about dev work, and if they suggest a donation, what do you care? Why is it any of your business? If the dev has a problem with people providing positive feedback and offering donations, they will make it known.

Hey I've unlocked my bootloader, but with the different partition layout and file based encryption (assuming this device uses that), is there any chance I'll have to erase my data and start over for root?
Because I got the 128GB model and I'm ready to start filling up with apps and keep a big portion of my Google Play music library to save on data and everything but I don't want to do it if there's a real possibility I'll have to erase everything if to achieve root.
I guess it is possible to use a custom recovery (once they come out) to backup, but that'll be a huge backup if I start keeping all my music to the device.

What ever but tour the same guys who's going to be asking for OTAs and asking devs to do this that and the other as fast as humanly possible.
If you want it that bad do it your self or sit and wait like a good little child.
No dev is going to rush something because of some people in a forum get a grip, like I said it's their time and it will be ready when it's ready.
You might think I'm going off on one but read the rules page for Christ's sakes.

The chance you'll have to erase is always present when rooting. Even when your device is fully prepared something may go wrong. At least you have already unlocked your bootloader, which reduces that chance.
File-based encryption will probably not be a reason to for wiping, though. It works fine in the dev version of SuperSU with Android 7.0 on a 5X.

Seeing as it calls for twrp which is not yet available, would flashfire work?

Much appreciated. I'm sure the answer is yes, but flashing things these days generates extra precautions. So, I wanted to ask a couple stupid questions. I should be aces to odin this over the echoed rom on mm, right? I understand that I won't be able to flash it back again if I do. Just want to cross my T's and dot the i's. Also, by chance, would you know if this version of nougat is rootable like the others with this method? >> https://forum.xda-developers.com/tm...eres-how-rooted-nougat-s7-edge-g935t-t3567502
I would think I'm good on both accounts, but would appreciate any opinions or otherwise. Thanks.

Hi, quick question. I have tried a few other threads and no one has responded, but ever since all of the companies allowed unlimited users to use hotspots, I am tempted to go back to stock. However, I am on AT&T and have yet to be able to find a HOME_CSC file for the s7 Edge on AT&T. Does anyone have this file so that I can do this without having to go through the annoying task of setting my phone up from scratch? I have checked all of the places I can think of to no avail. Thank you in advance.
