I know you CAN share them, but the recipient would need a Galaxy phone with that feature to see the intended effect, right? So someone with a Droid Turbo would see a Virtual Shot picture as just a still image. Is there a third party app that could make these kinds of pictures compatible with all phones?
Sorry for the bump, and I'm sure these are probably stupid questions, but I'm super curious. Thanks.

I was playing around with W.I.M.P. (Where is my phone) yesterday and I noticed an area that I think would make this program, or any other for that matter much more powerful.
Theory behind WIMP is that it sends back a text with GPS co-ordinates to another phone, not so great if theres 3 pubs within very close proximity, like in town. Soooo. my next thought was what if the phone was used at a camera post-being stolen.
I imagine the way this would work is that a photo would be taken from the thefts perpective using the standard back camera. However another additional photo is taken from the front camera with GPS data packaged into the JPG properties ala GPS Photo.
You'd get a shot of said thief, some decor in the background which Im sure would help work out where they are, you'd also have evidence of the theft and who took the phone, with time and date stamps, which when tallied against a police report would prove the photo was taken after the fact.
Im surprised this feature isnt available anywhere yet, or perhaps im talking tosh, or even that my google skills are lacking.
Anyhoo what do you funky brothers think?
I think that is a great idea now all we need is somone smart enuff to make make this porgram work like that lol
I think you would get a lot of pics of peoples pockets. Then you would know what pants they have on.

If you were able to find someone smart enough to make the front camera work on your Tilt....then writing the software should be cake.
Laptop recovery.
They have this type of software on Apple lappies.
Have a look at the engadget link
http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/11/stolen-laptop-recovered-with-back-to-my-mac/
That would be a neat feature but you would also probably get a bunch of bad images (tables, pockets, hands).

Yes, and if you noticed the person I actually quoted has "Using: AT&T Tilt" in his/her signature.
Is that even possible?
Wow! Now that would really be something. I would definitely be installing such an app on my next device especially in face of my Kaiser being stolen 2 weeks ago.
I think the problem with picuters of people's pockets and pub tables could be easily solved by setting the application to transmit only the pictures actually taken by the person in possesion of the phone after the theft. This way you could make sure the pictures sent, were taken when the person in question was holding the phone in front of them actaully trying to take a picture of sth.
This creates other problems of course like: what if the thief never uses the camera? But I think all mobile phone users try the camera out (no matter how poor it could be) at least once. So receiving a good quality picture would only be a matter of time.
I wonder, will it ever be possible to use the front camera as a webcam on Apps like paltalk, or in tinychat, or any type of video chats? Does anybody know if it's possible or even likely to happen or not? Just a question from me too somebody much smarter than me. By the way, I tried it on various video chat rooms and no go.
Thanks to anyone who answers,
Knotrkr

Well you have a SGT, why not load up the software and give it a try. Then report back what the results were.
I take a lot of pics, and videos. I've got a 2 yr old and another child on the way, so my snap shots and videos are going to increase. I like to share this media with family across the country. But I dislike using two or more apps to do it.
I don't like the stock Android ICS gallery and although I do like the older 3D gallery, I dislike the lack of any real options. ie I want to be able to specify which folders it looks at.
Picasa is a great "picture sharing" platform but doesn't have the ability to upload/share video (as far as I could tell), nor is there a stand alone app for it....you need the stock gallery to view your photos.
QuickPic is pretty sweet, but lacks the ability to syn with Picasa. And, also is doesn't have its own upload ability. You need to upload to Picasa, Photobucket or the likes.
Photobucket has pretty great upload / sharing abilities but doesn't really function as a gallery.
Sooooooo considering how great the camera function is becoming in our phones, can't we just have one darn app to handle all of this?? Maybe I'm missing out on something, but I think we're still coming up short in this department.
That's kinda of alot to ask for, but we never know what the future holds.

You're bringing me down bro I hope its in the future. The hardware on smart phones is progressing in leaps and bounds. I needs an everything app
Hello,
With Linux, I feel free of any limits so I imagine some crazy things to do.
I think we can link (ln -s) the driver file of back camera in place of front camera to fake the system and applications.
Why? That will allow us (as I expect) make 3G video calls and join hangouts in Google+ and maybe unlock phone by face in CM9.
What is your opinion? Is this possible or not? Why?

I think it's logically able to do. And maybe already available somewhere else (I've heard somewhere about video call using rear camera, but not really interested).
It's possible because it's actually same camera with (usually) different quality.
but it won't be comfortable using rare camera as front camera as we can't see who's we're talking to or they won't be able to see us.
or, when unlocking the phone, we can't see actually where the camera shots. is it right on our face or not. will be a little bit tricky to use.
but if you can do it, I think a lot of people will like it.

Most of video calls for rear camera depends on the Internet like Yahoo Messenger and Fring. But no native 3G calls.
In video calls we can do what we did with Nokia 6630 (As I remember) by standing up in front a mirror.
In face unlock you will face some difficults in the start but you will be used to do this easily after (it's a trick anyway that you can be proud of using it in Android in front of your friends )
We need an expert developer to help us defining the exact files to be linked.. and where?

I am interested in trying to take 'raw' images with the HTC One, and copy the data to my PC for processing using Adobe Lightroom.
Specifically, I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus, and have just ordered the HTC One Google Edition. I found a thread here of someone working on a similar idea, but it's in a 'developer' forum so I can't as there...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2316860&page=2
At any rate, my goal right now is somewhat different. I'd like to simply capture the "data" from the image sensor, which is what a raw image is, and copy it over to a computer where I have all the tools available to process it.
First step is simply to find a way to capture, and then transfer, the image data.
Second step is to try to get Lightroom to accept the data.
None of this is instead of using the camera application just the way everyone else does, creating 'jpg' images. That's done in-camera, and apparently it's done very well (although I've read that the "sense" HTC One does it better sometimes than the GE edition). With a raw image, none of this would matter - the computer would work with the image data, giving us a chance to manipulate it as we wish.
Any advice or suggestions?
+1
John
Haven't seen anything for capturing RAW around here. First time I've seen some one mention it or suggest it. I would be extraordinarily happy if someone were able to figure out how to capture in RAW. Would be the best thing ever to happen to the One IMO. At least for someone like me, and I guess you maybe as well. This is something HTC really should have added in themselves I'd they wanted to sell the camera on this phone. Photographers would eat it up. Though I'm sure Samsung would copy the feature as quick as they could.

Old thread but +1 this would be great.
HTC One is a smart phone with a camera, I would be extremely surprised if it's possible to get raw image data.
Are there many stand alone compact camera that even offer raw image ?
I thought this was a feature more associated with professional or serious amateur dslr camera.
