Hello,
I just got a Note 5 and it is a fantastic phone. It is my first note phone. Two quick questions:
1. Is there any way you can change how the screens move from side to side? i.e. Screen transitions. I believe in the Note 4 you could but I can find it on the Note 5
2. Is there anyway you can turn the screen on and/or off without using the power or home buttons? Again I think you could use air gestures with the Note 4.
Any help that can be given would be greatly appreciated.

My Note seems unable (or unwilling) to detect touchscreen contact within a relatively small margin of each edge.
Using the 'Pointer location' option in Developer Options, I can see that no matter where along the edge I put my finger, it seems to clamp it to 20px away from the edge. Taking the left edge, for an example, I can see the line tracking my finger up until I hit the margin, and then it will go no further left. It is still detecting the press, though, moving my finger up and down will result in a perfectly straight line being drawn parallel to the edge of the screen.
I'm using PA3 (RC3). Either the problem doesn't exist or I just didn't notice on stock. I only became aware of it when attempting to mess around with the new 'Pie' thing in PA, and realising that it's somewhat difficult for PA to detect the gesture when the edge of the screen isn't registering the touch!
I'd appreciate it if anyone could quickly check whether their Note has the same issue, or if anyone is aware of a way of expanding the area on which touches will be registered.

I wasn't sure to which app you were referring, but I found one that was able to fairly clearly show the issue. I took a screenshot and attached it to this post.
Each of those lines was drawn from or to the edge of the screen. You can see they all stop significantly before the boundary. The app is ScreenTouchTest, if someone would mind repeating the experiment and seeing what results they get!
Same thing happens with me. However, when using the S-Pen, the boundary gets to the right, ie the screen area increases. Here are two screen shots, one with finger and the other with S-Pen.
P.S: sorry for the big pictures...
Dial *#0*# and do a screen test..

My SPen is having some weird behaviours :
- It doesnt respond with the screen unless I keep pressing (without let go) the button.
- It writes without touching the screen (of course with the button being pressed), and when the nib touches the screen, it stops responding to the screen.
I used the auto updater to upgrade my phone to Nougat, and the problem still persisted.
I think my pen is broken somehow, but I dont know how to make sure of that before ordering a new one from amazon.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
If you have a friend that has a Note you can ask him/her to test your display using his/her stylus.
I tested that my N920c works using a Note 2 and Note 3 stylus.

Yeah I use my girlfriend's Note 3 stylus and it works perfectly normal. And when use my Spen on her Note 3, the issue I mentioned above occurred too. So I assume that is enough to state that my Spen is malfunctioned?
99% yes the problem seems to be your N5 stylus
Has anyone seen a post about bring back the NOTE 7 Edge screen functions on the NOTE 8, Im talking about how you could swipe on it and it was interactive when the screen was off, like seeing sport scores, your alarms or other stuff. Sadly after returning my NOTE 7 i bought a NOTE EDGE and now i am CRYING cause i miss the edge functions that they both have. Please please please someone revive this. THanks

The note edge was the only phone with a real edge screen.
My favorite phone. Still have mine although I'm on the note 8 now. Although I really love it, most of the side screen functions were more complicated to use than the normal screen, so I think that's why they removed those.
And the edge screen sensitivity was way more inferior to the other notes that came after.
I miss taking calls on the edge screen or having the alarms and feeds showing up there. I even had an app to make calls without even opening the cover. So cool... :good:
Would be nice to get those functions back but unfortunately I don't see that happening. The galaxy s7 edge had the screen off edge feeds and the up down swipe function, I dont know about the s8.
What I miss the most is the real edge screen though...
Just swipe the edge when on lock screen

Doesn't work with the AOD but if you press the always on home button when phone is locked and get to the lock screen you can still swipe the edge.
I'd like to be able to take a quick note while the Note 5 is laying on my desk. But to take the stylus out, means I have to pick up my Note 5.
Perfect solution would be to leave the stylus out (Or use a larger stylus like that nice Staedtler pencil one) and wave my hand to wake the screen already in low power note taking mode.
Anything like this available, or suggest an alternative way of working?
Easy screen turn on
I use this lot's to wake up my phone without touching it
I just bought a galaxy note 9 for about 3 days. it came with android pie preinstalled, from day one I had one very annoying problem with my s pen. Whenever I insert my s pen into the phone for more than 2 hours or so, after removing the s pen for writing, the s pen doesn’t write and work on screen for about 1 to 4 minutes and the screen doesn’t recognize the s pen but after that everything goes back to normal.
I should mention that I tried rebooting the phone, clearing the cache partition, factory resetting the phone and resetting the s pen remote and also I turn off the s pen remote function but none of these method worked for me. (I should point out that the s pen remote function works fine) I kept s pen out of the phone for about 12 hours and then test the s pen on screen and it was perfectly working fine and I also tried with my note 4’s s pen on note 9 screen and the writing was without a problem. I feel that my note 4 s pen is way better than the note 9 s pen and also the pressure sensitivity of note 4 s pen on note9 screen is better for example I had to press very hard on screen with note 9 s pen to get the same line thickness that I can create with note 4 s pen with much less pressure.
In short whenever I keep my s pen in the phone for more than two hours the s pen doesn’t write on screen and completely hangs for 1 to 4 minutes and then works normal.
Please somebody help me because my phone doesn’t have a warranty and I don’t want to stuck with this problem after coming from legendary note 4.
Sounds like a hardware problem to me. The spen slot sounds faulty. You need to borrow another note 9 spen to test.
