Why does Samsung Galaxy want access to my twitter and facebook? - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It'll give me notifications every now and then requesting access. I have disabled the app for the time being.

Probably to fill in your samsung account info or to create a samsung account using one of those social sites. Also is used for certain widgets that display info.

Friendcaster pro and Facebook help.

I am running both Friendcaster pro and Facebook because I have issues with both. Basically friendcaster shows some of my friends posts and Facebook shows other posts, neither shows all my friends posts. I can't for the life of me figure out why this is happening, settings maybe? This very annoying that I have to run both apps in order to see all posts. Another issue I have is that I try to run facebooks widget on CM9 but I can not scroll through the widget. Any suggestions on these issues or recommendations on another Facebook app where all post show up. Thank you.

It's an app issue. Friendcaster has been becoming less stable over time
Sent from my Galaxy S too!
There are two main causes of this.
First, it is possible that some of your friends have set their privacy settings to block access to their profile, wall, photos and status updates from third party apps like FriendCaster.
If you go to your Facebook account and select Account -> Privacy Settings -> Ads, Apps and Websites and click “Edit Your Settings” and check “Apps You Use” you’ll see an item entitled “How people bring your info to apps they use” you can see checkboxes for the items that are available to apps. As an example, If your friend has “My photos” unchecked here, they won’t appear in FriendCaster. If “Platform Apps” are turned off here, the account will be completely invisible to 3rd party apps like FriendCaster.
Unfortunately Facebook has this restriction in place and unless your friend allows third party apps we can't get around it at this time. If your friends are using that setting, the info will only appear on Facebook itself.
In addition, the Graph API that Facebook provides for us to provide information to your FriendCaster app doesn't provide Top News or Most Recent exactly as on Facebook, it's actually it's own feed that's probably most similar to most recent, but not exactly the same. So some posts may not be in the same order or may not appear at the same time.
It's more than friend permissions...

Facebook says that Friendcaster has not even attempted to access my friend's photos and videos since July 31. NONE of them.
I promise, my wife and children are allowing me to see. But Friendcaster is not attempting to access.

Gmail or Native Email App

Hi Folks,
I've come from a Samsung Galaxy S3 to a new shiny HTC One which was delivered a couple of hours ago. Just getting set up and was wondering whats your preference for email setup. With my company using Google Apps i've always just gone ahead and used Gmail but was wondering if the 'Mail' app was any better?
Regards
Sam
They are both really good, I guess if you have multiple email accounts the mail app is better than the dedicated gmail one because you could easily switch between accounts
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
I use the Mail app because I have 4 email accounts so easier to manage, I would still use this app if I only had one gmail account tbh, its much cleaner looking.
Gmail definitely. Don't like the native app.
Probably no help but I have been using both the HTC native mail app as well as the Gmail app. Personally I like the look and feel of the native app but I think I have been just to used to running my email accounts on separate apps, hasn't hurt me yet.

[Q] Email failure after disabling magazine

Month old note 3.
Disabled magazine and now get email message "unfortunately, email has stopped" I see from threads elsewhere that this is the issue.
I DO NOT WANT magazine. Is there someway to eliminate all the junk on this phone without killing the apps that work. I thought my Atrix was bad but it isn't nearly as crammed as this phone. I have 26 apps turned off, and some more that wont give me the option. I use this device for work, not play, and only want the apps I need.
Samsung please fix!!! Give us an option to unload all the crap with the next update. You are killing a really nice phone.
Anyone have a work around??????
THX

What email service are you trying to use? If it's hotmail or yahoo, use the Outlook, or yahoomail app instead of stock email app. Gmail works fine with magazine crap removed.

Thanks I switched to the gmail and yahoo apps and for those accounts. Need to find a suitable outlook replacement. The corporate sync that came with phone still crashes and burns.
Thanks and Peace!
I have that also... I froze Magazine with TiBU. When I get the email crash, it will often open the 2nd or 3rd time.

Mine also opens on the 2nd or 3rd try but it is too much of pain. I haven't had time to try another outlook app yet (don't know which is a good one).I hope they fix it soon, my wife needs a new phone for work too, and if this isn't resolved we wont get a Samsung.

Have you tried flashing a gapps package? or just replacing the email.apk with a google version?

No haven't tried anything for outlook yet. The only mail account I have to move is the one on a corporate exchange server. Need to make sure what ever I substitute is secure (as well as can be expected that is). Nothing cloud based.

Gear Null Upcoming Appts on homescreen?

Hi I noticed there is a Gear watchface that shows your next upcoming appt. I was wondering if there were any other widgets for the Gear running Null that would show this info. It seems that watch face has some "special" way of retrieving the next appt...
Thanks.
I use Minimalistic Text widget to show this
Sent from my SM-N900 using XDA Free mobile app
Hmmm. How is Minimalistic seeing that Appt. data? Mine doesn't? Are you using internet on your Gear? I'm not. I'm only relying on what Gear Manager is syncing over I guess... No Appt widget will display any appts... If I go to choose calendars within a widget like Smooth Calendar I don't show any calendars. Which I'm not surprised because I don't have any setup on the Gear itself. Only on my Note 3. Somehow though the Samsung clock widgets on the Gear are able to show upcoming appts... But not the style I want....
Do I need to sync the calendar on my Gear to the calendar on my Note 3 first?...
Any info appreciated. Thanks.
Yes. You need to set up your Google account on the Gear in the settings menu.
I'm not sure if you need to install calendar for it to pull/sync calendar data, but I have it installed and have it set up so if I tap the Minimalistic Text widget, it opens the calendar app.
I also have Tasker on the phone and gear setup to enable BT tethering for 2 minutes every hour.
That is often eough for me to have it synced. But, you could set it more frequently if you wanted.
Or, even leave tether always enabled if you don't mind the battery drain on your phone and watch.

That's what I thought dang. I'm on ATT in US doing BT tether requires root or paying for it... Even then not sure if it's enabled... Thanks for the info though. How does that Samsung watchface and the "Today's Schedule" app get it?... I wonder if there is a way to "exploit" that?

Doesn't email get forced to employ the policies from your work? I hate that, only few apps seem to get around that.

Thats nice. My university applies policy through most apps. Like requiring pin instead of pattern and some other annoying stuff.

Oh god, that sounds terrific.
Aqua mail premium its the best one out there. More features than gmail and no compromises.
I used to use BlueMail but out of nowhere it started keeping my device awake while the screen is off. BBS showed 99% awake with screen off and only 1% deep sleep over an 8 hour span.
Partial Wakelocks showed BlueMail as the offender and uninstalling and setting it up from scratch didn't seem to help. I didn't want to use anything like Greenify since I still wanted to receive email notifications, so I gave up and tried an app simply named "Email".
Email was good but seemed a bit too simple to the point where it felt feature-lacking.
I've since switched to Outlook and it's been awesome! Simple yet has a solid amount of functionality.
Outlook all the way for me.
Outlook for personal and work. Good feature set and works seamlessly with my work account.

I used to use bluemail but I heard something about privacy.
Best email app out there is blue mail. Full featured, free, works with exchange, soooo many options.
