Has this been started for the ATT version of the S5? If not I'll start it.
I want to root mine too. No luck yet.

There is a pre-lollipop root available. However, there is not one for anyone who has taken the lollipop OTA or got the S5 with it already installed. I am not sure if anyone is even working on it since this phone is almost 2 years old now.
I sold mine and got a unlocked tmobile s5 rooted it on 5.1.1 with no problem. I can use my at&t sim in it and with a few APN adjustments. My son still has the at&t s5 and it automatically took the 5.1.1 update. We still want to root it as soon as possible. Im sure sooner or later it will be a way to unlock the bootloader and root. Maybe at&t will soon unlock because I heard Verizon did

yeah I'm in the same boat my S4 that was rooted decided to not see the SIM anymore and I had warranty on it so when I called to get the replacement they didn't have any S4's left so they sent me a S5 ***BUT** the S5 came with 5.1.1 on it and now I'm f00ked......no more tethering with my grandfathered unlimited data plan I dun use it that way much MAYBE 5-6 times a year when we go camping and have no interweb access and I can't see paying $60/mo to use it tethered that infrequent.
If they wouldn't b1tch I'd throw my sim card in my laptop Wi-Mo card and use that for internet.

I'm planning to go pick up a moto x (card) today, but I need to know if I will be able to use it to create a personal wifi hotspot.
Right now, I have a Galaxy S (AT&T Captivate) and as soon as I installed Cyanogen, I was able to turn on the wifi hotspot and connect with my laptop. No extra fees from AT&T, it just worked.
Since there is no root or unlocked bootloader for the Moto X, will I still be able to enable this feature or will it still be removed from the OS like it was on my stock Galaxy S?
I don't want to have to pay $10 a month or something to use the data I've already paid for--I don't tether often, but it is often fairly important when I do.

It won't be an option until we get root. After that we can alter the build.prop and work around it.

Is it still an option if I pay for it? I guess I could pay for it until the device is rooted and then cancel (assuming that doesn't red-flag you for improper data use).
Hopefully it gets rooted soon.
I will be moving to ATT by the end of the month, currently using the untether mod through exposed, working great. I was wondering if this method will work after I switch to ATT..searched around, but didnt see this anywhere recently discussed

I have XT1053 DE with unlocked bootloader and rooted on AT&T GoPhone. I can confirm that built-in USB and WiFi tethering work fine but I only used them for a short while just to see that it works. I don't know if AT&T detects it and if it does - what it will do. I also don't know if postpaid AT&T any different.

I read on another site that there is some sort of tether cloaker for ATT if you are rooted but I can't remember where I read it.
To tether on TMobile you need to be rooted? I'm switching over and would like to know before I do.
Well, I am on the unlimited plan, which started to come with a 2.5 gig hotspot. When I wasn't rooted, obviously my data rose on the hotspot when is tethered my iPad, but after rooting and using exposed etc. my hotspot data has stayed at .1 meg for that last 2 weeks

I got a slap on the wrist from AT&T after I used tethering for about a week. I called them for something and they essentially said "if you keep doing that, we'll start charging you for a tethering plan."
AT&T Mobile Share plans have a bucket of data, and it can be used on the device or tethering ... doesn't matter how you use it.

do you have a grandfathered unlimited data plan.
Nope, at the time I had a 2gb data plan.
I'm planning on buying a note 3 at&t branded because I'd be using it on at&ts network but through cricket wireless. Does anyone have any exp in doing this? Does everything work? And LTE?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
I think you'll be one of the first to test this. Cricket use to be cdma style communication whereas at&t is gsm. I believe at&t just merged aio wireless and cricket thus changing cricket from cdma to gsm. If this is true you won't have any problems whatsoever. Just pop in the SIM and it will probably update the apn settings automatically. You can find the apn settings on crickets website and enter them yourself if it doesn't.
Just to clarify I am already using aio/cricket for months on this device. All will work fine if you have been reading up on aio and cricket merger you would know att is killing off crickets cdma line and will be using GSM, op just make sure you let SM-N900A is UNLOCKED and that you get a sim card and you should be fine. As per 4g/4g lte you may as well go elsewhere you will get 4g/4g lte where available but remember AIO/CRICKET is throttled data, so no matter what you will be limited to a lower speed. If you need any help let me know I've been on aio for months (pre merger to the point I have an aio sim but cricket in the top left).
I'm from the Pittsburgh area but now I'm in savanna Georgia and I've had lte almost the whole way..... I'm on cricket wireless also and I've had no problems with them.... I get lte almost everywhere I go

Not to he offensive but tmobile sucks. Tmobile only has coverage (4g/4g lte) in major cities, aio/cricket runs off of AT&T network so you already get better coverage. Speeds may be throttled but I can do everything off it on these speeds, youtube, milk music, pandora no problems. When I had tmobile I was constantly on "edge"/2g, but on aio/cricket 75% of the time I'm on 4g lte and the rest I'm on 4g. OP unless you plan on never leaving a major city, just get aio/cricket.
I was on AIO for about a month, and now am on the merged Cricket with an Unlocked Note 3 (for another month). The 4g LTE data speed is capped at 8mbps. I have no problem streaming whatever I want. I had Verizon and most of the time I only got around that speed anyway. I looked at about every MNVO and provider for a cheaper way to do smartphones, and for 3 smartphones, I am at only $115 a month total with 2.5gb per line. I put out about $700 on a Note 3 and 2 S4 phones, and am saving about $115 a month on what it would cost me with AT&T or Verizon. The coverage for AT&T in my area is excellent. I have also found that the online chat is very quick and helpful with any questions. So far I am very pleased.
AT&T basically threw out Cricket and merely put the brand onto their existing AIO wireless. Given that there are so many more Cricket stores, it makes sense.
I am looking to purchase a note 4 either with T-Mobile, Verizon, or Att Wireless and use it on Cricket Wireless since you guys have done this with the Note 3. Will I be able to pop the Cricket sim card in and let it update by air or will I have to unlock all of these phones for this to work.. Also any suggestions for mms .. 4g LTE..etc will be appreciated..

If you get the N4 AT&T branded phone and plan to use cricket, you just put in SIM. Within minutes, you will get the configuration message, install and you're ready to go. No unlocking needed. With the Verizon and T-Mobile phones, you'll have to unlock. However, with any phone, unless you are on that branded phones service, you will not get OTA to new OS versions. This is not that big of a deal since you are already on xda, you can just go to your forum and more than likely find a flashable. [emoji3]
Im also doing the same now, just got a ATT note 3 to use it on cricket.. i have a note 3 on sprint but i just switched jobs and dont have reception at all, im trying it and if it works i might go to ATT later on, or who knows i might stay at cricket.. is way cheaper and 8mps is good for what i use it.. 55 per month with 10 GB thats a hell of a deal, I use about 8 to 10 on sprint right now
Wow...
Ctfu, yeah, give me a sweet device with crappy coverage... That makes SOOO much sense? AT&T/Cricket/AIO all they way! Funny stuff, keep it comin'!

I'm not too much of a phone geek, but I just started using my ATT Note 3 on Cricket. My APN settings didn't automatically set with the Cricket SIM, but that was an easy change.
I'd suggest the ATT N4 just because ATT bought Cricket, and they're using the same towers now. All things the same, I think it would be the path of least resistance.
BTW, I was paying $120/mo. for Unlimited everything with a 20% corporate discount with ATT. I was only using an average of 1.8GB per month. That also included a partially subsidized phone every 2 years with a new contract.
Now my bill is $35/mo but I'll have to buy my next phone. I'm only on day 2 of the change, but it's a big deal for me after 14yrs with the same company.
-Kevin
I am currently using a AT&T branded Note 3 on Cricket, switched from Tmobile months ago. No need to unlock a AT&T branded phone or at least I didn't have to with my 3.
You can just put a SIM in and change the APN settings to Cricket's which are available on their website.
I've never had issues with dropped calls or losing data with Cricket. I'm paying 150 a month for 3 lines unlimited calls, texts and 10g data on each line.

DirecTV customer who can come to AT&T for $140/mo, 2-lines Unlimited Everything. Fine print gotcha is no tether/hotspot.
Is there a work-around since I guess my rooting days are over with this phone?
Thanks.
if you have root you can flash the hotspot hack and this will get your hotspot to work, now if you dont have root.
what i did was download clockworkmod app on your galaxy s6 from play store and then follow the instructions it gives you to tether to your computer.
if you need detailed info i have it, i just wrote down some basic stuff to not waste my time
I don't think the S6 is rootable anymore?
Bumping this as I'm thinking about jumping on the unlimited data deal and getting an S6 edge during the BOGO free deal coming up. Any update OP?

Fully functional TWRP should be available for the Note 7 Qualcomm tomorrow or the 20th, depending on when Samsung uploads the N930W8 kernel source. (only thing I'm waiting on)
If you have an N930T, you can try flashing https://idlekernel.com/twrp/a2017/twrp-3.0.2-0-b10-ailsa_ii.tar.md5 which is for the Axon 7 but only to see if it accepts the flash. If Odin succeeds to flash it, then it's quite likely that it is indeed unlocked. (you'll know for sure that you're unlocked if it says Set Warranty Bit when trying to boot recovery IMMEDIATELY AFTER FLASHING!!!!!!!)
If Odin says FLASH FAIL, then it is bootloader locked and John Legere Kenobi is your only (clearly unreliable) hope.
You can then boot up your system and it will reflash stock recovery and you'd be back to normal.
If it is locked, trying this will not trip knox warranty bit.

Did not work.
Sad day...?
did you unlock the oem bootloader, there is an option in the settings under developer settings may have to click that on before you can attempt to flash anything.

The new "T-Mobile One" Unlimited Plan starting Sept 6th is really a bad deal. First off it is $70 per month before the other stuff. $25 to get the "Bing On" turned off and be able to enjoy true HD video on their network. You only get unlimited 2G speeds of tethering with the $70 plan. You will only be able to purchase 5gb of 4G/LTE tethering per month for $15 per month. $70+$25+$15=$110 You add insurance and you are at $120 per month before tax/fees.
No more 14gb of 4G/LTE tethering per month. Pay more just to get HD videos and only getting 5gb of 4G/LTE tethering. Or get throttled to SD videos and 2G tethering. That is the new plan.
You would be better off getting the plan now before the changes.
Just saying.
