POPROCKS

I can't say which is the best because it might start a flame war but I have used PopRocks and Dynamic Pop, highly recommend both of them. If you still have any doubt check the features list and see which one fits you better.

Those are 5.0.1 roms are there any 5.1.1 roms worth mentioning?
Sent from my SM-N910T using xda premium

I'm LOVING TEKXodus 4.3 (It is a 5.1.1 ROM) on my 910T3 with beastmode 1.1 kernel.
Battery life is phenominal, speed is incredible, stable, just overall sweet.
Combine that ROM with Multi Window Commander (well worth the $1.50) and Xposed App Settings module for app specific DPI settings and I am just in love... (not a fan of global DPI changes in the build.prop. Too much hassle getting stock apps to play nicely, easier to just change them on a per app basis)

Currently using overdrive. Really liking it. Just would like the recent button button back.

Gingerbread differences

I upgraded to gingerbread but dont notice some of the gui visual differences. Anyone else notice this too?
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA Premium App
Theres not much changed in the graphics itself. More underlying stuff has been changed.
For me the most important things are greatly improved battery life and properly working gps (quick fix). There are others reporting faster and more responsive overall user experience.
Its really worth to upgrade to 2.3

Mines a hell of a lot faster with Gingerbread... Love it, would recommend the upgrade...
Mines a p1000t, aussie telstra version. Has same modem as the A,T&T version in the states...
Rogers sgt p1000. I waz hoping for alot of the gui graphical updates in gingerbread.

Search tab forumn gingerbread has ALOT of bugs. Threads and threads with pages and pages.
Wait till oc/uv and a more stable kernel. Current kernel is a mix between tab software with a sgs driver. Because samsung hasnt released source code yet. Gingerbread isnt officially out in the us or most of the world for the tab.
An interesting note on gingerbread. Drop your lcd density to 165 and some stock icons upgrade to a totally different icon. Example is phoneicon.

If you want to change the GUI of your Tab, I suggest that you try out some launcher apps. LauncherPro for example, you can easily change how the homescreen looks.
Or if your open to custom ROM's, I suggest that you keep a close eye to the development of Overcome ROM. They are beginning to customize the GUI of the ROM, as well as optimization tweaks for the whole device.
Thanks for all of your answers

Fed up with stock 4.2 (ROM suggestions)

I lived my nexus 7 on 4.1 but man 4.2 build is so bad. It is almost unusable to me. It is laggy and buggy with freezing all the time. Any suggestions on something very stable, close to stock? How is cyanogenmod? Ideas would be appreciated. Looking to root tomorrow I can't take this any longer.

Ι tried that for a day, it was smooth and all but the battery life while idle was horrible.
Reverted to 4.1.2 stock, is there a way to get rid of the notification to update to 4.2 (without updating ofcourse)...

Strange how peoples experiences differ
I use stock rom 4.2 and never ever have any kind of lag or freezing of any kind - everything works 100% and buttersmooth constantly
I never have to reboot or anything, it just runs for months and not even once have I had any lag or problems
Try a 4.1 rom, CM 10.1 is your best bet, but im not familliar of this device roms.

People have problems with 4.2 if they have old applications that are not updated for 4.2, don't clean their cache, or don't trim their storage.
Any complaints about battery life are due to applications requesting data synch or location. Those wake the Nexus up, and can be turned off.
4.2 is fine for me.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I had similar issues in stock 4.2, tried about 3 others before settling on cm10.1, which runs smooth as can be for me with good battery life.
Seems like the these things are pretty finicky and everyone's handles different ROMs differently.

I have not had good luck with aosp roms on my Nexus 7. I always end up back at cyanogenmod. Try fitsnugly's build.

You do realize not every device is the same. I keep good tabs on my devices. I would know if an application was causing the problem. I've factory reset the device and nothing has changed. Also I've heard from numerous people who have had problems like mine.

I love sparksco's saber mod ROM (4.2.1). It's very smooth and has excellent battery life (10%/hr screen-on time + 10%/day). The supplied kernel is great but I prefer metallice's m-kernel.
Sent from my Nexus 7
That's exactly why I finally decided to root and rom. I did like the 4.2 features so I was shooting for one that incorporated those (dual-sided notification bar, etc.)
Paranoid Android nailed it for me. It feels just like stock 4.2 but is wayyyy smoother, wayyyy less problematic and has a ton of customization options.
I gave cyanogenmod and a couple others a chance first but Paranoid Android definitely has my vote.

it hard to decide which is the better rom.
btw i'm using paranoid android+franco kernel
I Use the super Charged Series N7, although PRIME D01-25 is also good. Both are very smooth with great battery life, especially when using M-Kernel or motley.
NEXUS 7:
Unlock/Root
N7 Super Charge v1
M-Kernel
PimpMyROM
Jays Buttery Tweaks
This is too funny...
If you have the latest version of jb and it is so bad you can barely use it than you need an RMA.. While it out may have some minor bugs I used it for a long time and loved it... I only switched to paranoid because I love the pie..
It sounds like a hyperbolic exaggeration to me. If not your device is faulty.. or you have some really bad apps messing things up..

I am using AllianceROM from my signature. It is very smooth and snappy. It's TW based JB and it's nicely themed with OTAs and a lots of customizations. You can install with or without Samsung and Google apps. Just follow instructions.
I'm using Super Nexus 2.0
Pros:
Smooth and fast
No Bloatware
Great battery life
Cons:
None really. (some may say it is to much of a minimal ROM) but I actually like that
My favs
It's been about 15 months since i'm having my beloved Note, and i guess i flashed like 30 different ROM's on it, from GB's to JB's, CM, MIUI, literally everything. Let me mention my 2 favourites, The first one was this: [ROM][4.1.2][10/14] Cookies & Cream 1.3.0. Very highly customizable, smooth, and amazing battery life. The reason i stopped using it, cuz it has some flaws, i cannot save my contacts to the SIM card, or anywhere else, just to my Google, which i don't want. The other one problem was, there's no option to store the photos on your external SD card, only to the internal. Apart from this, a very good ROM. The next i'd like 2 mention is, my all-time fav, Chrack' s XXLRQ v16 Final. I'm using it for a while now, this is the most perfect ROM i ever used on my Note. Everything works perfectly, no FC's, lagging, smooth as melted butter, and it has probably the best battery life i ever experienced. Simply perfect ROM. I cannot recommend anything else more than this.
CM 10.1. Pure; like it should be.

CM 10.1 is the fastest but also the softest
Paranoid Android is the coolest but buggy
All the TW ROMS including stock are dealable and for a major manufacturer to make a ROM that u can actually use WO having to be an I-Drone then i think every veteran would say that's impressive!
but also that, basic functionality doesn't mean that a C student getting a C+ is someone i want to hire or give a medal...u don't get praise for making something that works, after a million failed attempts, especially when u are a zillion dollar company
All the TW ROMs are pedestrian and I never understood why people can't live wo S-Planner? You use a TW ROM BC u have a separate tablet, and u cant live wo SPen...omg are u kidding? hahahahaha
Start flashing virgins, there's no reason we cant direct mobile computing....u can lay down and accept whats given, which is for them, or u can demand the best and push the envelope
Really we just want the hardware...
Thanks Samsung for making a device that I-Drones might look at BC its big but no thanks on trying to make more Samsung drones.... Its not good for humanity, technological advancement or me personally
BTW i use Paranoid Android (Jelly Beer)

I am unfamiliar with most of the devs with this phone. If Calkulin was here, I'd instantly know his great reputation from past experience. Right now, I stick with stock rooted and hotspot modded MDL. Stock kernel for compatibility issues with triangle away. Custom recovery for flashing and nandroid. I'm sure I could get better performance with custom, but I haven't ran across anything yet that impressed me. I haven't been very adventurous either. No disrespect towards devs, I just haven't been in this phone's scene long enough to learn reputations well enough yet. Calkulin"s roms did 99% of what I wanted a rom to do. Unfortunately he went onto HTC territory.

If you would like to list your favorite ROM and the features you like, fine.

I'm using freegs4 because it fits my needs.
I love the 90s good times
stock rooted with a custom kernel.. once freegs4 is updated ill deff give it a flash...
Just flashed the new Premium Rom and I like it it a lot. I like all the Roms though. lol
I've played with several roms and keep coming back to stock rom, Koontz (sp?) kernel, and a few of the mods.
Stock deodexed MDL. KT kernel, with a BUNCH of mods installed (especially Xposed Installer with Nottach module). This might be the one phone I will not need to run a custom ROM for! It's awesome stock with a bunch of tweaks and modded out.
My favorite setup so far is stock odexed MDL with root + mods, such as CrossBreeder, Xposed Framework (and Nottach & Tweakbox module), ktoonsez kernel, and Viper4Android audio.
The phone is stable, fast, no lag, and battery life is excellent.

I had that exact set up too... then I thought my phone was messed up bc dual shot kept freezing up on me and I thought it was faulty hardware... but it turns out that KT Kernel is causing the issue bc ktsoonsez's kernel souces are newer than our firmware so it's causing problems with the dual shot... so I'm running stock kernel for now until that gets fixed!

You only have to use one. lol I'll probably flash Sonic when he updates. Thinking on trying Revolt next. I'm a flash whore.
I'm really enjoying Premium ROM. It sounds like he'll be adding some flashable themes soon as well.
Trust me though, when Hyperdrive makes its way to our phone, which I'm told will be soon, I'll be checking it out as well.
But really, all the TW ROM's are nice. Blu Kuban is always a really nice change of pace and I usually keep my backup of that one so I can quickly run it at any time.
The AOSP ROM's are coming together nicely as well, though I'm holding off on making them my daily until the Pure Google S4 comes out. Then those ROM's will be stable just like TW.

Rom or not?

So I've been running pure nexus for the majority of the time I've had my shamu, and so far for me at least, the only noticeable difference I've seen is the using the volume rocker to change the music track. And CMTE, but that's gone now, so I'm thinking of going to stock and just rooting? And maybe using xposed, so what's your opinion, am I better off staying on PN, or should I move to stock and root? I've never had a great experience of xposed on other devices, should I give it a go on my shamu? Thanks guys!

It is a personal choice Rom/Not.
I don't like the monthly updates.
Now I am using a prerooted. stock rom of Danvdh.
With TWRP I flash the latest rom, after wiping the system and caches, in a few minutes I am up to date.
You could give it a try.
