HI all,
today I was trying to extend my display to the tv but I'm no more able to do it.
I have a chromecast (old one) connected to my tv and I was thinking to extend the display of my notebook (running windows 10 home) so I did as I've found in this video
1) win-key+x > and selected control panel
2) change screen resolution
3) pressed "detect" key in order to "find" the chromecast ; but it does not work
Did I missed something or the new updates are blocking this feature?
thanks

Has anybody been successful with a good RDP client to use from the Nook Color? I have tried TeamViewer, Wyse PocketCloud, AndroidVNC, all with no success for different reasons.

I'm using LogMeIn. Works ok enough. A little laggy. But it gets the job done.
Sent from my "NookDroid" using XDA App
Me too logmein works the best but the best is still not good enough
Logmein Ignition? How do you move the cursor or click on something?
iTap Mobile RDP client is the best NC rdp client IMO. I have spent just under$ 100.00 trying them all out as I needed one that worked with non-tech users.
This is the only app that provided real tablet touch to my RDP sessions WITH the custom screen seize for the NC. As with any RDP session WiFi speed matters, as well as developing your custom theme on Win7 so that the buttons, window frames, etc... are usable from a small touch screen device. If there is any interest I will post my Win7 settings. I have not automated them all yet (which goes against my beliefs... lol).

Would be interested to know what your tweaks are to make this as usable as possible. Would love to rdp into work from nook. Also, if anyone knows, what is the best solution for establishing vpn to ipsec cisco devices from nook?
OK, downloaded and installed it. Then I installed it (iTap receiver) on my PC. But the nook has no menu buttons in the interface, so I can't put in the IP of my receiver. How did you do that?
Wyse pocketcloud pro works fine for me.

First I have heard of the iTAP receiiver. I used standard Remote Desktop on the Windows 7 device. Am I missing something in your comment?
1. Installed the iTAP client on the NC
2. Configured the client for a new bookmark (shortcut to device RDP sessions)
3. Configured custom port mapping (NAT) on router
4. Verified RDP was enabled on the Win7 device
5. Realizing I could not use a styolus and my fingers are bigger than a stylus, configured Win7 with custom settings. (posting in a momeent in reply to the previous comment).

OK, I checked to see my version and noticed there was an update. But based on your comment I did not update it yet (don't want to break what works now). So I visited the Dev site and the iTap receiver looks interesting, however I purchased and use the "iTAP RDP" app.
I may give the iTAP receiver a try as it sounds as though it gives a customized (large icon) type of interface to the Windows client. I don't have time for that today though but for now the iTAP RDP app works great with the custom changes to my Win7 profile.
Like I said, I bough a bunch of these apps (you know the story, you get more features in the purchased version) however this was the best one IMO. The 2nd runner up was "Remote Desktop Cleint" from XtraLogic however they did not have a custom screen size that was consistent and when I (or my family) touch the screen to move something I want the "something" to move not the entire desktop since it would not resize properly. :-/
Thanks Raptor, I will be using a good portion of what you have documented in my setup.
Hi everyone, I want to share to all of you my FIRST app on Android Market:
PowerAMP Controller for Honeycomb + Kinect support
This application allows Honeycomb tablet user to control PowerAMP directly from their notification bar. Moreover, it also has an *experimental* feature of connecting your Microsoft Kinect and control music directly with your hand gestures!
*Features:
+ Control PowerAMP directly from Notification Bar (Quick play/pause/next/previous/volume control).
+ Multiple backgrounds (currently 7) for you to select.
+ FIRST ANDROID APPLICATION featuring connecting with Microsoft Kinect (requires Android 3.1+ for USB Host + USB OTG Cable + ROOT)
*Integrating with Kinect:
(see application site below for pictures, YouTube clip coming soon)
Experimental feature, do not rate this application low if it is not working well. Better support will come as soon as skeleton tracking feature is complete
Requirements: USB Host + USB OTG Cable + Seperate power supply for your Kinect + ROOT + Android 3.1
- Connect Kinect to USB host.
- Launch PowerAMP Controller from your app drawer.
- Click on the Kinect icon (may not work the first time of clicking since the application is asking for root permission).
- Tilt camera to suit your need (prefer place without interference).
- Start controlling music with hand gesture.
*Hand gestures:
Work best in range between 1m and 2m
- Spread 5 of your finger vertically in in front of the camera to start/pause music playing.
- Spread 5 of your finger horizontally to the right in in front of the camera to skip to next song.
- Spread 5 of your finger horizontally to the left in in front of the camera to go back to previous song.
- If you do the gesture correctly, the LED on your Kinect will flash green.
This application is provided for free of charge!. All of your xda-developers readers, please install, use and give me feedback.

Hooked it up and the Kinect is blinking green. Granted superuser permission and backed out of app. Went back in and tapped the Kinect but it says Kinect not found. Force stopped it and same status.
Tiamat rom.
Kinect not found!!. I'm using Honeycomb 3.2 stock rom
Have you guy connected the kinect with external power adaptor?

Yes, I have the orange kinect USB conected to the adapter that is connected to the xoom USB and external power adaptor
Both the nexus 4 and the nexus 7 (2013) support slimport, which is very useful for mirroring the device to a big screen. However, neither device uses the standard 16:9 (1080p) aspect ratio. As a result, you end up with some cropping on a 1080p TV. For the nexus 4 it is even worse, since it outputs 768p upscaled to the TV's resolution.
However, the flexibility of android allows us to manually change the native resolution. In a console, we can type the command:
wm size 1080x1920
and the resolution will change. In the device screen the new resolution will look odd, however you now have true 1080p on the TV. To get back to the default resolution you type:
wm size reset
This solution works, but it is not very convenient. So I made two profiles for tasker, that automatically change the device resolution upon the connection of an HDMI cable and reset it when the cable is disconnected, thus automating the whole process.
I 'm attaching a screenshot of the two profiles, as well as a zip file so you can extract and import them in tasker.
In summary,
- you need root
- the HDMI plugged profile
reduces the device brightness to minimize battery consumption
increases volume
sets resolution to 1080p
enables WiFi
sets display timeout to 10 hours
activates display rotation
- the HDMI un-plugged profile
sets auto brightness back on
resets screen resolution
sets display timeout to 1min
These are optional settings that I found useful to automate, but they are all optional, and you can tweak them once you imported the profile to tasker.
I hope you find this useful!!! :good:
Hello,
i'm currently planning on using a 7th gen fire 7 and a 7th gen fire HD 10 as wall mounted dashboard for SmartHome experiments.
Home is not too smart at the moment, it's mainly about a convenient control for philips hue lamps, but would be nice to be scalable in future.
My current setup uses ImperiHome (here) to deliver dashboard and control.
A combination of Tasker, Motion Detector and Secure Settings to detect motion and activate the display automatically (here)
As for the differences between the tablets:
the fire 7 is on fire OS 5.4.0.0 and hence not rootable and not downgradable to a rootable version at the moment, correct?
the fire HD 10 is on fire OS 5.6.0.0 and rooted.
Current main problem is the lockscreen.
My motion detection activates the screen but only reaches the lockscreen..
i've done some googling (no-lock apps, terminal commands, tasker tasks) but up to now i haven't found a way around it.
My wish would be to just disable it - any ideas??
Alternatively i'm looking into the idea of displaying an app all the time, which will avoid standby like a fullscreen clock. (here)
Unfortunately i'm afraid of killing the tablet quickly when it is always on.
Is there a way to switch of the background illumination and display without sending the tablet to sleep/lock/standby mode?
Second (less important) i want to automate the charging with an Osram smart plug +, which the tablet shall activate via a tasker task when it needs recharging and deactivate when full. Haven't looked into that yet but i thought in case someone got a tutorial at hand it would be great!
Thank you very much!
Hi, Have a look at the Fully Kiosk Browser APK on Google Play, check out Home Assistant forums search for Fully Kiosk Browser some information how its been used with that system.
Thank you for the advice! I've already spent some time in those forums. Up to now I'm trying to avoid an additional home assistant raspberry..
So I'd like to use the imperihome dashboard instead of a web based browser dashboard..
But I'll try to see whether I can use the anti-lock function of fully somehow!
How about Developer Options -> Stay Awake ? (google how to enable developer options if you don't have that enabled already)
I've not used Fully yet, but what I understand from the description, you can use the tablet camera as motion detection, switch screen on and load any app,
Yes that's correct, even with a sleeping tablet.
Unfortunately if it was "sleeping" with screen off it will start the target so "behind" the swipe away lock screen...

But I'd like the display to turn off..
I don't have a fire tablet to try this, the dim function in full will turn the brightness down to 0, and when monition is detected by the camera it brightens back up.
Hi all. For games that do not support the second (i.e. built-in) display, is it possible via some kind of software to have it zoom in on a portion of the main display? For example, displaying only the map or a health bar of a FPS game? The functionality is just like the new HP gaming laptop I read about in 2019 that has a smaller second mini-display above its keyboard which has custom software to do just that.
Thanks!
