Hi all,
I am just wondering if anyone has come across this issue.
I recently updated my old Z1 to Lollipop (completely stock, no root or anything). I wiped the whole lot and flashed the Lollipop ftf. It's currently running the UK 14.6.A.0.368 firmware. Haven't updated it yet to the 216 firmware.
When I call this phone from any other, I can hear my daughter (whom I gave the phone to) but her voice warbles like she's talking underwater.
It is really strange because I had the exact same problem when I updated my wife's Z1 Compact to Lollipop too.
Both devices have locked bootloaders, no root, just clean wipe and flashed Lollipop ftf.
In the end I flashed KitKat back on the Z1C but my daughter really prefers LP over KK.
Any thoughts on this?

I know, I know, there are a ton of posts by people asking how to return to stock. My situation is quite peculiar though.
I was part of the Motorola Feedback Network and I got to test 5.1 Lollipop on my XT1053 along with maybe 100 other people a few months. I was quite fortunate, but I felt like messing around and I flashed CM12.1. Now that 5.1 is available for everyone, I want to go back since CM has a cell radio battery drain bug that isn't present in stock.
So here's the problem:
I am unable to return to 4.4.4 to receive the OTA. Because I was already on Motorola's 5.1, my bootloader, motoboot and other important files were all upgraded to 5.1 and I can't downgrade. I tried flashing them using fastboot but no dice. Thankfully, I had a back up of CM12 or else my phone would be bricked.
I tried downloading a flashable OTA but it won't install because it's expecting me to come from 4.4.4, not 5.1.
I think what I would need is a generic 5.1 zip for the XT1053 in order to return to stock, but what do you think?
Like I said, I have the CM12 back that restored just fine so my phone is functional so I'm in no hurry. Thanks for any help!
Hi, so here's my situation:
I had a z1 Compact with 4.4.4. (I believe the latest firmware before 5.0) which I sent in due to a defect.
Before doing so I made a backup using the built in Sony backup&restore app.
Instead of my z1c I got a new z3c with preinstalled Lollipop back. (Which is actually pretty awesome).
Unfortunatly I now cannot activate my old backup because it was made with 4.4 and not 5.0.
So my question is, would downgrading my z3c to 4.4.4, installing the backup from the old z1c and updating back to 5.1 via PC companion work, or is it a waste of time?
Or are there any easier alternatives like a different backup app which could activate the old backup?
Have n901t. Rooted it after being talked into 5.0.1 by Tmobile rep trying to improve it. No good. So went back down to KitKat and rooted that. Obviously I cannot receive ota update for 5.1.1 now. Do I just get the stock file and flash with the phone as it currently is? Or should I flash KitKat back to it's un rooted state before updating phone? Am still a novice in the taking control of your smart phone world and would rather not brick something if it can be easily avoided. Thank you.

You could get the official software and use odin to install it but there are a couple of things you need to be aware off. First once you upgrade to 5.1.1 you cannot downgrade back to kit kat and you will be stuck on that version, secondly in order to achieve root you might need to install a custom kernel before rooting. For that last part I would suggest you hit the forums since there a couple of posts about rooting this new version.
don't know if I am ready to start messing with kernals yet. Am patient. New root will show itself before we know it. Did the update through Odin. So far smooth sailing. Tested Simpsons tapped out since with 5.0.1 it lagged so bad it was unplayable. Still not as smooth as it was on KitKat but can still play it at least. Haven't tinkered with anything else yet.
Personally I'm waiting it out. I don't like not being able to go back, and I've had 0 luck with 5+.. So I'll wait until someone "fixes" it, if ever.
So I've just about had it with the leaky 5.0.2 lollipop firmware we got stuck with. Bootloader is hopelessly locked for no good reason meaning only Sony signed firmwares/kernels are flashable. A kind gentleman in one of the other subforums gave me instructions to install nuts recovery and that worked (I had rooted previously using kingroot).
He also packages up a flahable zip from a preroted c6903 5.1.1 official firmware (minus the modem files so my american tmo modem stayed in tact. I was trying to do a clean flash). Theoretically this should work right? Nope. Left my phone soft bricked over several attempts. I ended up getting the 4.4.4 ftf and flashing that back and honestly I'm happy with it.
But then I find out that my new vehicle in getting, which will support Android auto in a march update, requires lollipop or better. Son of biscuit eating bulldog!! I dont want to go back to the broken 5.0.2 firmware Sony and Tmo left us with. It was terrible.
Surely there has to be a way to trick the system into thinking we are flashing a stock 5.1.1 firmware to circumvent the locked bootloader right??? I was flashing customized ROMs back when my little brother had a Motorola Defy with a locked bootloader that all we needed to do was install recovery and "restore" a backup of said customized ROM and voila.
Any ideas?
another thought popped into my head. As far as I was aware, Xposed didnt work on our devices (well, the Z1s c6916 specifically). Can anyone confirm whether xposed works on the Z1s or not on 5.0.2? There is a module for xposed that claims to fix the memory leak issue so that could be another work around but im from preliminary reading its supposedly already included in stock sony firmware. Sure doesn't seem like it.
i just wish the bootloader could be unlocked (without consequences like causing focusing issues with the camera), and that existing Z1 roms could be reconfigured for the Z1s c6916...it would make things so much easier.
This is not a forum to ask questions !
Ask in Xperia Z1 forum because Z1s belongs there.

I have a C6603 that I rooted into a custom KitKat 4.2.2 with the help of xda back in May 2014. I tried flashing Nougat 7.1.1 using Resurrection Remix OS but something went wrong - it didn't seem to get into recovery and became totally locked. I tried all sort of things but the only thing that worked was Sony's own Xperia Companion, which installed Lollipop 5.1.1. (horrible!) Now I have lost root and the bootloader is locked. The service test says it is unlockable. Sony have a website that describes an unlocking process which involves mega downloads on my PC. The instructions don't seem to relate to what I see on the screen, so I could not get anywhere with it.
Is there any way I can get back to where I was with 4.2.2? I still have all the downloads with which I installed it nearly 4 years ago. I did a full Titanium backup before I embarked on this folly. If I could get to 7.1.1, that would be nice - but that has lost me a lot of sleep already!
OK, let me put this another way.
Has anyone flashed an Xperia Z C6603 with Lollipop 5.1.1. using Sony's own Xperia Companion, and then unlocked the bootloader and rooted it? And if so, how did you do it?
