Hey guys,
So, I've been noticing static noise occurring at certain times when I am using my Moto X. More specifically, I experience static when using Google Play Music (regardless of whether music is playing) , Spotify, and when sending a text message in Messenger. I only notice this occurring when I am using headphones, and don't know whether the static is happening through the speakers as well. The static is not the normal, expected nearly inaudible sound but one that noticeably starts when I open one of the aforementioned apps.
Any ideas why this is happening?

Hi guys. I just noticed that when I use my Z1, I hear a crackling noise (static noise) whenever the song would change (the silent part). Of course the static isn't that audible when I play at high volume. But I tried experimenting and turned the volume way down, totally silent. And there it was, there was static when the music was playing. Also I've tried to hit play, then pause, then click next next next next next, it still has static noise.
Can you guys please confirm that your XZ1 also has this static noise... I've tried it on my IEM (ATH-CKS77) and headphones (Razer Electra). I don't believe it's my IEM or headphones because I just tried these on my SGA, it's not making any static noise.
hmm. I don't know but if you read this

I just started noticing a faint static sound from the earpiece when running an app with the volume off. I didn't actually notice until i was playing a game in a quiet room with the volume muted. It was actually loud enough to hear without placing my ear next to the earpiece. It only makes the sound when i run a game. I haven't tried it with any other types of apps yet. Had anyone else been experiencing this?
There is a thread about this. Im sure you get alot of static noise when you call as well

Where's the thread. Thanks.
My earpiece is making a squeaking noise the entire time. Even when idle and screen off.
I've used N5 until last tuesday, and then been using N6.
I'm satisfied with N6, but I have one problem.
I'm using the same earphone, the same music file, only different phone, but I can hear disturbing white noise at lower volume levels.
I'm quite sensitive to white noise and could also hear some white noise from my old N5, but that didn't quite affect my music.
this time it's just too much and sometimes garbles some specific notes.
I sometimes listen to music when I don't get sleep well, so I occasionally set volume level to 1 hence the problem really annoys me.
Is there anyone experiencing same problem?
Also, Is there any workaround to resolve this easily? Even if it is faluty product, I got this from ebay and the warranty is not covered in my country...
Hi there!
TL\DR - Stock Nexus 6 Headphone jack produces noise\unclean audio when playing at low volume . A bit annoyed and wonder if i can do something about it.
First poster and a new user of Android in general, and I got myself a Nexus 6 as a first android phone. Love it so far.
Except for one minor issue.
My audio quality with the headphone jack is a bit strange.
It has background static when audio is playing low, or if there is a low audio portion of a song or video the headphones.
My old Iphone 4[yes, I used that crap for four years] had no problems with this.
I've tried a couple different headphones, but they both have the issue.
My main ones are a pair of Shure SE425 inear. So I hear everything crystal clear, including this annoying static.
I have very sensitive ears when it comes to audio and usually listen to music with "one bar" volume, sometimes two when watching something.
Is this a common issue?
My thoughts are that either the WiFi antenna or something similar is interfering, because the jack isn't shielded or something.
Might be some kind of decoding issue?
The phone is untuched with it comes to rooting or installing apps.
It's basically as stock as it can be.
Kind regards.
Despite my tinnitus (not caused by listening to loud events, etc.), I have sensitive ears, as well.
I have a Nexus 6 64GB running stock 5.1.1. My Sennheiser headphones (both portable and heavier monitoring types) don't exhibit this static you described, even at lowest audible level. This is for playing high quality MP3 files using PowerAmp, as a quick test.
What audio source are you using, please?

I have the same issue, after the recent update on 6.0.1
Audio Player used: Google Play Music and Blackplayer
Video Player: MX Player, VLC and Youtube.
The issue is same as the above since the recent update.
I Bought this phone 2 days ago, when I first unboxed it, I tried out the earphones that came with it, i was listening to a static noise so I was ready to throw them in the ''trash'', but when I tried my normal earphones, same issue remained... its really noticable on lower volumes
It happens the same thing on the speaker of the phone, except its super hard to hear it unless you put your ear on the speaker, so its not much of a problem
but using earphones gets really annoying... do i have a faulty phone?
Edit: the static noise is not constant, when there's no sound playing, it stops after like 2 seconds, and then when i play something it comes again
I just checked mine and I don't have that noise ... I have a PRA-LX1....B170, rooted with magisk and Viper4android and the audio modification library modules for magisk, don't know if that has anything to do, although I don't remember having that static noise the first day I bought it either.
Mine had that issue, I was able to minimize it using Viper4android and by using Honor 6x kernel from K-rom v2
I also have this. Although I don't pay much attention to it since I don't hear it when playing music, it is a minor annoyance when pausing music or videos. Is it kernel/firmware related?
I have same problem too (model: PRA-LX2C636B160). I tried stock player and some premium player players such as PowerAmp, JetAudio HD Plus, Neutron but nothing fixed. Looks like common problem.
Same for me.
Seems to be related to the NFC, I turned it off and and so far, no noise again
Also facing this problem.

I have exactly same issue. Its really weird, annoying. When play music, there is no static noise. When I stop music, static noise comes.
