static from the earpiece while running an app - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just started noticing a faint static sound from the earpiece when running an app with the volume off. I didn't actually notice until i was playing a game in a quiet room with the volume muted. It was actually loud enough to hear without placing my ear next to the earpiece. It only makes the sound when i run a game. I haven't tried it with any other types of apps yet. Had anyone else been experiencing this?

There is a thread about this. Im sure you get alot of static noise when you call as well

Where's the thread. Thanks.
My earpiece is making a squeaking noise the entire time. Even when idle and screen off.

Is it normal for the speakers to have a slight background static noise?

I'm not sure if this is normal or if the speakers of my HTC One are defective. Whenever I use the speaker, I can hear slight hiss or background static noise. By slight, I mean I have to put my ears like 10cm next to the speakers to hear it. I don't hear the static when I'm using the earpiece for calling.

I had slight static from my speakers straight out of the box, different nofications and ring tones seem to do I just put it down to quality of them when streaming videos or music don't seem to have the issue. I find its all good as long as you don't have the volume up full.

For me the static noise appears when I'm using youtube, poweramp and speaker phone during a call. Like I said, it's only audible when I'm in a quiet place using low volume. Just want to make sure those speakers are not damaged or something

Earpiece distortion during calls

Hey all, I've had my moto X for a couple days now and I've noticed that during calls with the earpiece volume turned up to 75% or higher, I've been getting sound distortions. The distortion is apparent with higher pitched noises, such as when ringing sound is played at the beginning of a call or I can also hear what sounds like hissing in the background. Wondering if anyone else has had this issue, thanks!
Update: I've discovered that the issue is either network or modem related. When using groove ip, i found the call quality to be perfect as opposed to the static i get when call over sprint.

Weird clicking noise from speaker.

Does anyone notice a very light clicking noise from back speaker when on speaker phone right after hanging up on a call?
Just the NSA, disregard.
Lol,thought it might have something to do with radio/network stuff or like u said nsa..smh
I notice it makes the clicking noise anytime the back speaker gets used at all, there's a light hiss then click, guess kinda like an amp would sound when being turned off.
No one else here it?

Yes, I hear it. This has been audible on every phone i've had in recent memory, you probably just never listened for it before. Anytime sound is routed through the speaker you get the hissing, followed by the click as the amp shuts off 2 or 3 seconds later. Sometimes it's audible through headphones also, depending on the headphones.
Lol yeah only noticed, because when on call using speakerphone it clicks 2 or 3 times and it's just a tad louder then when turning off any other time, other wise probably would never heard it.
I have a N910F and noticed it this morning. I here it, it's like a frying noise, and if you get close enough you here it every time a sound is routed throughout the speaker on or off.
I'm on Lollipop 5.0.1 Baseband version N910FXXU1BOC3.
I don't think it's normal, Samsung is playing around with the audio system, you couldn't turn off sound completely until this ver of lollipop and still even when audio is completely off you can here the speaker fry when something is routed to it.

I know that for calls the ringtone starts low and it increases slowly but I have no issues with notification sounds-they play as laud as I have set the volume.
When you say the sound is low, do you mean for the ear piece? The ear piece has a known issue of having very LOW sound levels for a lot of people.
A good number of people can't hear using the ear piece.
Check out this thread:

I want to add to that also. So sometimes I notice when my phone is away from my head when I answer a call for example, the call starts out louder but goes lower once the phone is to my head. Now if I check the volume level, it's still at max. I was almost wondering if the phone doesn't have some type of proximity sensor that KNOWS it's near my head due to light levels or whatever. Kinda like how the phone shuts the screen off when it's near your head?
Either way I can NOT use my ear piece to hear calls. I have to turn on my speaker phone on a low volume to hear it!
They need to add a "boost" button like Samsung has on their dialer in TouchWiz.
There was a fix listed at the above url but sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't for me.

The Speakers Megathread

How is everyones speakers holding up? I dont always get a distortion at max volume but there are specific tones where I can hear them. The one specific example I can think of is the default alarm tone (I think its oxygen). Anyone else have a similar experience? Or is the phone supposed to be distortion free for all tones at max volume?
Thanks!
I sometimes get crackling/distortion from the top speaker but I noticed a new issue with mine last night.
I had my handset on silent and pulled down to my quick settings/tiles I switched WiFi on and held the device close to my ear, I could hear a few seconds of a 'buzzing clicking' noise then it stopped, I turned the WiFi off and the same thing again.
It happens on both the top and lower speaker and makes this noise whenever I turn on or off the wiFi or Mobile Data. It also doesn't matter if it's on silent or active notifications.
Is it just the radio being activated/turned off?
Does it happen to anyone else?
l also got my first random shutdown last night too.

The speaker issue is not actually a hardware issue It's actually a bug. Some people get panicked and apply for a replacement but there is a high chance to face the same issue on the replaced device too. But on some device it's a hardware issue which can be evident in ANY volume not in the specifically the HIGHEST volume
How can distortion be a software issue though?

The sound issue can easily be a software issue, it does not necessarily have to be distortion coming from the speaker. That word is being thrown around too easily. But the OS could be sending bad code to the speaker, which comes out sounding like distortion. With the vast amount of people claiming to have this, I am more inclined to think it is more of a software bug.
PS - How is this a "mega" thread'? Just because the OP wants it to sound like an 80's hair metal concert title?
