Hello, i got a G1 from my cousin, so i cant use it yet but im the 1st day,
i can still use the "camera, calculator and some of the apps, it happens that i wipe-out the datas. but now i discover to make an update that some1 instructed me to do this.
1. Go here: http://code.google.com/p/android-roms/downloads/list
2. Download this: signed-kila-ota-148830.de6a94ca.zip [8th in the list]
3. Rename it: update.zip
4. Place it on your SD card
5. Put SD card in phone. Reboot holding the Power and home buttons.
6 Apply the update...
7. Done.
but then i cant even still see those apps like camera's bar code reader,
calculator etc.. is there a way to see those? or i now need to get an unlock
pin to activate the phone and see those apps?
my phone is 2weeks nothing to do ><
all i can see is the emergency calls xD
Is it asking you to sign in to google?
I'm not really of your scenario, you're using a t-mobile SIM, right? When I got my G1 I didn't have a t-mobile SIM, so all I could do is use emergency call until I unlocked it. Thing is, when you factory reset your SIM unlock is still retained, so I don't really see how this is possible...
So we can understand what happened.
-The phone worked fine
-you factory reset
-Applied that update
-it's asking for a code
Is it an unlock code (for the SIM) or a gogle sign-in?

First of all thanks for replying bro, its really appreciated
i got my G1 without a T-mobile sim card. so if i put a sim from here
it ask for a pin and also requires me to sign in tio google.
how to fix? or the only way is to get it unlocked?
coz samehere i only can use emergency call xD
so you have an rooted locked g1 and you what? Hard to follow the conversation
If you're not on tmobile you need to purchase an unlock code, you can buy them on ebay for about $15/£10. They will ask for your IMEI. Never publicly post your IMEI. If you see one really really cheap, make sure they are going to give you the code, rather than tell you how to unlock.
After thatyou need apn settings for your carrier, press menu, enter those and sign in.

did your cousin originally have tmobile? what he can do is call tmobile and say that he sent his g1 overseas to his cousin as a present... jus tmake sure you tell him the IMEI number found on the back of the phone when u take out the battery first before he calls tmobile..
tmobile will give him the unlock code thru email within 24hours.
if he didnt have tmobile then the only thing u can do is buy the unlock code.preferably ebay.
a lot of apps use data. so apps that use internet and such will not work since there is no SIM in it. u need a sim with a data plan. but u can use the phone over wifi. no calls but download from market and browse the web.
PM me so i can walk u thru. more things.

Dear all,
I need help!I have an unbranded Galaxy S and I usually update the firmware without any problem(until now!!). Few days ago I flashed for the first time JM5 firmware without any problem. Today I had to reflash the JM5 firmware. Everything was ok but when I booted my phone I had the message: "SIM network unlock PIN"!!!!I'm going crazy because I cannot unlock the SIM!!!What's happened? Please help me!!I tried to reflash with an old firmware but no chance to reset!!How can I proceed?
Thank you
Contact your operator for your PIN code, unless you have it in the letter that you got with your SIM card.
EDIT:
Actually: Did you buy the device from Handtec?
According to this thread, they got a batch of Orange-locked phones where they should've been unlocked.
Return the device to them to get a new unlocked one.
The problem is that the phone worked properly without any restriction for 20 days with the same SIM and now I noticed this problem!!!
I cannot also unlock my phone via websites that provide this kind of codes because I don't really know also the name of the opeator that is locking my phone!!
I think that this is an internal problem of phone but I don't know how to fix it.
Other ideas?
What on Earth, same issue here.

What do you mean? Do you mean that sometimes you are able to use your phone e sometimes no? How do you unlock your your phone?
I think that you have an imported device that was unlocked from the seller. When you have restored the factory settings, probably the unlock was... wiped... I have had the same problem after a factory reset; I'm Italian and my Galaxy is an imported item from Hungary or Austria, but I don't know the original provider that locked the device. I have phoned the Samsung Customer Care (the seller is on vacation until the end of august ) and, from the IMEI, they told me only that the device was producted for the Austrian market. Without the provider it's no easy to unlock the phone, but there is a service that I'm trying: unlocksamsung.co.uk - they are partner of Mobileunlocked.co.uk, but unlock only samsung and only using the IMEI number of the phone. In the meanwhile I've ordered a I-Smartsim 2008 from Ebay...
Bye.

All from JF1 to JM5.
so that means the lock in the firmware ? I was under the impression that is was not.

No, the network lock is firmware independent. I was able to flash various firmware without problems in first days. The lock appeared after the first Factory Reset using the vol-up+home+power combo.

I can confirm that the network lock is firmware independent, however my phone went into network lock before Factory Reset.
I did however try Factory Reset to fix it and it didn't help, nor did flashing several other roms, including the stock rom.
I contacted the point of sale and apparently they had a previous issue with a batch of phones but they did not expect it to happen again.
I hope if a replacement isn't honoured then we need to find a solution... :\

Once it showed up I haven't been able to use my phone as a phone.
When you enter your SIM PIN (if you have one), it then jumps to a full screen that asks for a NETWORK UNLOCK PIN.
Just to clarify, this is not PUK or PUK2, as I can use my sim in another phone just fine. ( G1 actually. )
Did you buy your phone from handtec? If so your phone is probably locked to Orange UK.

I don't know. I'm Italian, I bought it as an import "free" device and maybe the phone is from Austria or Hungary. I hope in a software workaround in the future. For now I'm waiting (and hoping in) an unlock code and/or the unlock sim buyed on ebay (till seller reopen at the end of the month...).
Bye.
Just to understand what this issue is about: now, when your phone is trying to connect to the Network, it checks your device's IMEI as "locked" and then negotiate a PIN Dialog?

Now that is REALLY scary.. Can you please try to remember what you did, or what program were you using -->right before<-- the network lock got restored ???! Something must have made the Factory Reset trigger...
Same thing happened to me 2 days ago. I removed the sim from my phone and I left it without battery for ~16hours. When I put the sim back, I got the same message to enter SIM network unlock PIN.
Fortunately for me, my phone was unlocked via an unlocking service and I had the NCK code. The trick is that I cannot unlock the phone again using this code, but I can lock it to my network with it.
The weird thing is that now I can use my phone both on the network that it was previously locked and on the network that i locked it. So, my phone is now locked on 2 networks And the other thing is: I can enter as many unlock codes that I want. it is no more limited to 3 tries.

rbnet.it, let me try to clear things out and understand it:
A - Wasn't your phone dead?
B - What program did you use to check your locks?
Also i'd like to leave some general question for anyone who knows:
C - Do you think that if a galaxy S user unlocks its phone online using some kind of site, the phone will eventually lock himself up again?
D - Are the locks "predictable"? I mean, will the phone always do Network-Lock or always do Sim-Lock?
This scares me out a lot, my phone is locked to "TMN" (network only) but everything is OK as long as it stays that way... But i'm starting to believe that it won't

A: No, it isn't dead It's network-locked on a foreign countries/provider: I can't use the phone section (call, mobile networks, etc) within Italian providers, but if I dismiss the pin request (or leave out the SIM), I can use any other functions.
B: a samsung code that check the status of the phone: http://ip208-100-42-21.static.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=721111
Bye.
Good news guys.
I contacted Handtec ( Place of purchase. ) and apparently it's a issue with Samsung Firmware or something.
The guy sent me a network unlock code, and it seems to work.
I haven't got the prompt again.
That's just what I was wishing for =)
Since yaz00us told us that his phone locked himself up, it had to be a Samsung Bug.
By the way, does the given code work for future times? If so i might ask mine right away... =)
thanks for the good news
I was planning on giving my uncle my ace and unfortunately when I put his sim in and try to connect to Rogers APN it says I'm unable to register on to the network. I put my sim in from my One V and it worked on that phone. I'm assuming it's carrier locked, how exactly can it be fixed if at all. Thanks.

I've heard that cellunlocker.net works. It costs some money, but from what I've heard, it sounds pretty good!
Why I thought this wasn't the case is that my phone never asks for a code to be unlocked like these sites say, so I'm a little confused as to whether my phone is locked or unlocked.

There's probably a hidden menu that you have to access. I think if you get your code, specific for your device, they should give you clear instructions on how to get there... But they probably won't do it until you pay for it . I'll try and search around and see what I can find.

I think u should edit ur apn configuration and use rogers setting.. may be u can find the rogers setting in their web..
You didn't specify which ROM the Ace was running. If its a stock Samsung ROM, I'd expect it to ask for a code, but with CM7 or 9, it won't since those build lack some libraries to perform the actual unlock.
To get your code look into the bml5 method.
Hello guys,
My question is about what it will happen or at least what it should happen to my phone if I put a sim card from T-Mo?
I ask because I put one to my phone and it seen that it took it by NOT giving me any errors but since the sim card is not activated is hard for me to tell if it work or not. So I ask if the sim card is from a different provider and it doesnt give me any errors does that mean is unlock?
Thanks
Just try another sim, it wont kill the phone lol . At least then you will know wheteher the phone is sim locker or not.

And yeah, it sounds more like the phone is sim unlocked, as it doesnt matter if the sim is activated or not, the phone detects what carriers sim it is without it having to be activated.

If it came unlocked that will be great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! as i might know how I did unlocked it by accident without adding a code to do the job. I will let you know when i put a good SIM card to it.

Is it possible the phone is hard locked to the original provider? If it is, I'm not sure why you aren't getting a message to indicate the phone is network locked or asking you to input an unlock code.

Is hard to tell because honestly I havent mess around trying to unlock the phone. Is the first time I try to swap sim cards for the sakes. lol
The reason I made a thread about this is just because is weird that I dont get an error or a prompt telling me either enter the code or the the phone is network locked. All I get is a prompt telling me that a new sim card have been detected it and I need to restart the phone to see the changes etc.. with the new sim.

Please any ideas on how to fix this issue as is the only phone I have and have no service due to this so I cant use my phone at all.

Hope this helps!

Hi there,
I bought a Sony Xperia Z1 from kijiji (like graiglist) and when I came to unlock it, I released I couldn't. After going to the service menu, I realized that there are no attempts left!
I called the carrier Bell and they said they cant unlock it since it has not been 90 days since the day of purchase.
Is there anything I can? If I unlock the bootloader, will it reset the counter?
Thanks!

No, sim locking is unrelated to the bootloader lock. I would look in other forums and Google at large, this isn't an Xperia issue and someone else will have run into it.
Ouch, thats very bad. That son of a gun screwed up and decided to sell his phone via kijiji. There are a lot of scumbags out there, thats why I always check unlock attempts (via phone service menu) and also check whether the device is stolen or not (Protect your Data by CTIA)
As for your problem I'm not sure what you could do at this point. Best way is to contact Sony CC.

I had checked if the device is stolen but not for the attempts. Sony wont do anything about. I thought maybe I could flash a new firmware and that would give me an extra attempt.
