Charging current - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

1. What is a good app to test the charging current. I use ampere but does not seem to give correct readings.
2. I thought with MM Android allowed monitoring of the charging current. Am I correct?
Thanks

[Q] Battery usage app?

What app do you guys use to monitor your battery usage? I'm using Calkulin's ROM and it only gives you the basic stuff like display, wifi, etc.
Looking for something that will tell you exactly which apps or widgets are sucking the most battery.

Spare parts gives more detailed battery usage. Many Roms include it but I don't know about Caulkins.

Spare Parts was included in Calkulins but I don't see a battery usage feature in there.
battery left widget
I find the battery left widget does a great job of monitoring the charge level, time remaing and time to charge. it calibrates and adjusts to your useage pattern.

You could also try "wheres my Droid power" in market.

yes, you tap on the widget icon and you can get all kinds of useful information.

Battery fuel gauge, no learning needed on Nexus 5, should always be correct

Hi
Looking at the Nexus 5 service manual I found it was using a new type of fuel gauge from Maxim the MAX17048. This works differently to other types in that it doesn't measure coulombs (i.e. current in and current out), but works just by battery voltage. From the datasheet:
The ICs use the sophisticated Li+ battery-modeling algorithm ModelGauge to track the battery relative state-of-charge (SOC) continuously over widely varying charge and discharge conditions. The ModelGauge algorithm eliminates current-sense resistor and battery-learn cycles required in traditional fuel gauges. Temperature compensation is implemented using the system microcontroller.

Also this means while other types of battery monitor become less accurate over time and don't correct themselves until a certain event is seen, such as a complete discharge/recharge cycle, this newer system is suppose to become more accurate over time, and also is pretty accurate from the start as no 'learning' is required.
So there is never a need to fully discharge/recharge the battery in the Nexus 5 in order to correct any error in the battery charge monitor. This partners well with the wireless charging which can see lots of small top up charging.

Phil

Good news! I made the experience that my battery was draining really fast, however it was just bad calibrated... This should be quick-charging much easier :good:

STweaks For HTC One

So I use a Appradio in my car and the usb charging of .5 amps is not enough. I'd like to have the full 1.5 or 2 amps that the unit produces. With the galaxy phones you can run STweaks and control the charge rate. Is there anything similar for this on the HTC one?
Hi, not in the good place to ask this :

ElementalX Kernels allow Fastcharge to be enabled
great! I flashed the most recent kernel onto the most recent Insert Coin and all appears good. However, whats the best way to measure battery charge rates?

[Q]What is Fast charging?

some custom roms for our k3 has fast charging option..like blitz CM13 or AICP 11 and some custom kernel features this too...
what is this fast charging?? is it like Quickcharge?
shouldn't it be hardware based feature?
how fast does this feature charges our device?

Our device originally supports upto 1700mA of current. But in some kernels the charging has been modded to give more current than that. The only thing I don't understand is that they tell us to use the stock charger to get faster charging but our wall charger only provides max 1.7A.
But some people have reported getting current upto 1900mA using the stock charger only. You can test the current through Ampere from play store.
Well you can't say it is like the quick charge technology as in the snapdragon devices but it should lessen the charging time
is it harmful?? for battery? I mean...since our battery isn't designed to cope with such high rated charging....!! is it?

I dont think it is harmful and hopefully the developer of that kernel also knows what our device is capable of

More or less, you should know that you are drawing more current than what the manufacturer specified. This may cause unexpected results like overheating, degradation of battery or worse bursting of phone!
Just be safe

I hope it doesn't take a toll on battery in long run.
Ps: it works on custom roms too right?
Is it work for custom ROM?
For example: RR Remix and AOSP
